L8. Kimchi Jjigae
Carina H.

The service was great, and the staff was attentive when it came to water and napkins. The restaurant was spacious and clean with partitions between side group tables that make the dining experience feel more private. The Kimchi Jijae was filled with kimchi and had some small bits of pork belly. There wasn't a lot of tofu pieces, but this was a filling dish. The rice had the perfect amount of stickiness and wasn't too wet.

L3. Wooguji Sundae Guk (Korean sausage and cabbage soup). Sundae comes in the soup. I took it out to cool it down. Ask for multigrain rice.

I like getting Wuguji Sundae Guk (Korean sausage with cabbage soup) from Sonamu. Really friendly staff. I tend to go on off hours, like mid afternoon. It's not busy so it doesn't feel hectic. I like their side dishes, especially their radish kimchi. Ambience is friendly and casual. I feel comfortable eating by myself here.

Super homey & delicious Korean spot! I'm so glad we came upon Sonamu house, & this will definitely make its way into our dinner restaurant rotations. After despairing over the closure of Hansol nearby, this is the closest thing I've found to a homey spot serving up some delicious soups & stews & banchan. My boyfriend and I came for dinner on a Friday night, & the restaurant was already filled with locals. I ordered the yukgae jang, he ordered the sulleong tang, & we split the LA galbi. There's definitely a bit of a language barrier with some of the ladies here, but it's super doable with the menu. Also, if that isn't a sign of authenticity, I don't know what is! There's also a really kind English speaking staff member who took her time to explain the different banchans, and always made sure we were okay. Our water glasses NEVER went empty! The food is super comforting and delicious. I'm not sure if they tend to err a bit on the side of less salt, and flavor to taste based on your preferences, but the yukgae jang did need a touch of salt. Glancing around the restaurant, we saw that other tables were also given salt. Perfectly fine by me, and actually perfect for my family, since we have varying salt preference. Salting the sulleong tang to taste is a given, but this is a first (and quite welcomed) change for me for yukgae jang. Both soups were super yummy though, & I'll definitely be back for more. LA galbi also had great flavor & portions. Banchan were all really tasty - the kimchi packs a nice spicy kick, which I loved! Overall, it's safe to say that this we'll become regulars really soon!

A8. So Makchang Gui

So Makchang Gui - (2/5) - $27.99 The So Makchang Gui were seasoned beef small intestines. The serving was very different from the picture. It was a lot less than expected and the intestines were a bit over cooked. It was a little too crispy and not worth the price for the amount I would not recommend this dish. Boodae Jigae (4/5) - $15.99 Boodae Jigae had spicy kimchi, noodles, spam sausages, and tofu stew. Overall it was pretty good and flavorful. I would hope to have more noodles. I feel the noodles were cut in half. Extra Many side dishes The place was decently big The service were okay

B1. Chulpan Sundae Bokkeum

How do you know you're getting old? When you and your friends openly want to go to eat Sundae Guk or Stir-fry Sundae out of any other dishes you can possibly get. I've been coming here for a few years now. They have an extensive menu, which is filled with soups, rice dishes, stir fry and etc. How do you know you're at a legitimate Korean restaurant? If you see a bunch of Korean Ahjusshis and Ajummas! Take note of the ahhusshis drinking soju alongside their meal. I usually order Sundae Guk and Sundae to go/for pick up. The taste is always right and consistent. When I dine-in at the restaurant, I order the Chulpan Sundae Bokkeum . This consists of Sundae (Korean blood sausage), glass noodles, cabbage, and entrails with a sprinkle of perilla seeds. After you eat most of it, you can always ask to make fried rice, which is the perfect way to end the meal. Never say no to fried rice! They also have other soups like Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Soup), Samgyetang (Chicken Ginseng Soup), Budae Jjigae, and Boyang Tang (Goat Soup). If you want Korean Barbeque, they have that too, which I have not tried yet. The staff is friendly and polite and there are plenty of tables at the restaurant. Sometimes, you'll need to get their attention to get a refill of water, but I'm not complaining!

L20. Sanchae Gopdol Bibimbap

Personal Rating: [3.5/5], Yelp Rating: [5/5] Surprised this place doesn't have more reviews. Food is solid and good value, homey is a good description. The banchan was great and I'd recommend the oyster pancakes. We ordered the sanchae bibimbap and gamja tang which were both good, but I'd try something else next time.

The food is always great here! the servers don't speak much English but I'm usually able to point at the menu and order. However it's totally worth it! I haven't ordered much that I didn't like. We ordered the combo 2 and it came with so much food and a soju - I'll definitely be back for that combo and the soup that came with it. Seafood pancake: The seafood pancake didn't have much seafood in it and the pancake was super thick and heavy (not my favorite). Pork belly: I expected the pork belly to be grilled in front of us since there was no indication that out wouldn't be. It came out on a hot plate and it wasn't very hot so the pork was not crispy. La galbi: the Galbi was great, sweet and savory in the best way (the menu did say that this would be cooked in the kitchen so I expected it to come on a hot plate) Hot stone squid stir fry: I'd never ordered this before but it was a phenomenal addition to our meal, it was peppery and came with rice Overall, despite the language barrier, the food keeps me coming back for more every time! I'd definitely recommend ordering one of their combos!

came in at night for a late dinner, most places on northern close by 10 pm but this one was open later. i got cold noodles because it was really hot and it was extremely refreshing and delicious. there was a lot of side dishes as well which was very nice. i did experience a bit of a language barrier but it was a great experience overall.

Food was sub par. Waitress nasty and not helpful. Whoever said a good way to tell if a restaurant is good is if old people eat there, must be a very old person. Skip it and go elsewhere

This is a serving of 4? This barely fed 2 people.

Horrible. How do you not have one of the main dishes you serve and specialize in?! We showed up with a group of 9 to have cold noodles, and they don't have it. That's like going to an Italian restaurant and saying they don't have pasta.

Kate S.

Came here recently and the food was very good. The stir fried squid was excellent and had just the right amount of spiciness. My friends devoured their dishes of steaming hot pots and blood sausage filled with rice/glass noodles, with a side of pig ears. The waitress was very polite and friendly. It's very comfortable to sit either in a booth to the side or at one of the large tables in the center of the restaurant, it's a very spacious and open layout.

Preface by saying, I love this restaurant and I think food is amazing here. However I'm disappointed because I ordered a wooguji soondaeguk which is a Korean blood sausage soup with cabbage, and all they gave me was the cabbage and forgot to include the main part of the dish.... There's no soondae in my soondae guk lol it's not bad but it's like getting a burger without the patty...

They start you off with barley tea and water, and we also got the jeju mandarin fizz which was 5/5 delicious - not sweet at all, fizzy, with a nice iced sorbet situation going on at the top. Here's what we ordered - Lava rock cheese tteokgalbi (5/5): so delicious and not heavy at all if you're worried about that. It was surprisingly not oily, the meat was plump and juicy, and there was just the right amount of cheese. The dipping sauce was also surprisingly light and complemented the dish well - Collagen gomtang (5/5): wow this soup was so flavorful and had so much depth. The meat was so tender too - Gukbap (4/5): I loved the veggies and glass noodles in this one, but the soup itself was on the salty side, a bit salty for me Unlimited banchan refills and the kimchi was some of the best I had!

We went with the soy garlic glaze, which was decent but the flavor profile was very mild. I would have preferred more sauce for a richer taste. The meat itself was very tender. The banchan is unlimited, which we loved. The black fungus and spicy cucumber was my favorite. Servers were friendly and attentive throughout. Overall, a solid experience. I would recommend it and plan to return. :)

This place is a little of a hidden gem and not quite like other Korean restaurants. But no gatekeeping here! We also came at a weird lunch time around 2pm so it wasn't really busy and we were seated right away. Once you enter, you'd quickly notice the very detailed beautifully hand painted murals on the walls and an abundance of painted butterflies. The attention to detail is impeccable! The menu is also very cute and I'm guessing handmade. It was pretty detailed and we appreciated learning about each dish before deciding what to order. We ended up ordering the Kimchi Pancake with seafood, the spicy bulkoki udon and the jeyuk udon. The kimchi seafood pancake was super crispy and filled with squid and shrimp! It also came with a semi sweet dipping sauce that paired nicely. Both udons came out piping hot and fresh! Udon had a nice chew to it, was loaded with vegetables as well as meat for each dish. The egg was fried and did not have a runny yolk. For sides, they gave us 4 things- a tomato salad, kimchi cucumbers, braised string beans, and bean sprouts. The tomato salad came in this cute apple shaped dish but neither of us really cared for it- this is completely biased though since we're not really fans of tomato. What we really did love was the kimchi cucumbers! Also at the end, they served us 3 pieces of cantaloupe which were very sweet. Overall, yummy food, cute shop, and friendly/nice staff! I'd come back to try their other food options in the future!

There's 2 waitresses and one busser, but I felt only one of the waitress was pulling the weight, while the other (maybe she's the owner?) mostly chatted with one of the table customers. I felt bad for our waitress she was so busy with fulfilling takeouts + dine ins and the dishes require a lot of servicing table side. She couldn't catch 1 second of break :( Food wise, we got their 2 person combo of spicy pork gamja tang and spicy rice cake which came with the steamed egg. Everything was so good, egg was extra fluffy, rice cake was delicious and the meat came right off the bones. They take a good variety of side dishes. My partner wasn't a fan of the gamja tang but due to feeling it's a hassle to eat meat with bones, so those who fee sim may agree. We also asked for the fried rice after we finished the gamja tang, for 2 servings I think it was $4.75 or something. I really enjoyed it but I guess I like scorched rice, also something my partner doesn't enjoy so those we feel sim just note. Environment feels very old school, well worn. Feels cozy. It can get loud very quickly on a Saturday night as this place seems to be a hit for large parties. Since the wait staff is short handed, expect a bit of a wait for things. Don't come if you're in a rush.

I was at this very tasty KBBQ place a while back with one of my usual groups. The inside is casual,…read moreand our waitress, Jane, was extremely friendly and helpful from refilling banchan to cooking meats and otherwise. A couple of us shared a $13 bottle of the green grape flavor of Chum Churum, a soju. In terms of banchan, there was a bunch. Everyone got a cold and refreshing cabbage soup as well as a very tasty version of Braised Tofu/Dubu-jorim/두부조림. Once we ordered, we also got a bunch of other banchan, including cabbage, radish, and cucumber Kimchi, broccoli and cauliflower Namul, Marinated Mushrooms/Beoseot Bokkeum/버섯볶음, Anchovies With Peanuts/Myeolchi Bokkeum/멸치볶음, and Potato/Gamja Salad/감자샐러드. One of the other things brought out was a pretty tasty version of Raw Soy Sauce Marinated Crab/Ganjang-Gejang/간장게장. Most of these were refillable. The first actual thing that arrived was something that I can't eat, the $22.99 Seafood Pancake/Haemul Pajeon/해물파전. I have a cephalopod allergy, or in other words, anything with tentacles, so I avoid squid and octopus, and seafood pancakes always contain one of those two. Everyone else enjoyed it, though. The pajeon I could eat was the Kimchi Jeon/김치전 for a dollar less. It was pretty tasty, though I prefer other spots that had a bit more of a crisp. Next was one of their signatures, the grilled duck. Going from online reviews, we went with the non-spicy version, as people prefer it, as the spicier marinade overpowers the duck. This was the $29.99 Sang Ori Gui/생오리구이. The sliced duck was on a hot, sizzling plate, with there also being a lot of grilled onions and scallions. The duck had a mix of pieces, ranging from fatty to less so, and had a nice mix of textures. This was easily one of my favorites, though I liked it even more when paired with the ssamjang that arrived with the BBQ, as the sauce balanced the light fattiness. Arriving at a similar time was the last thing I couldn't eat, the Spicy Stir-Fried Baby Octopus on Iron Plate/Jjukkumi Cheolpan Bokkeu/철판쭈꾸비볶음, for $30.99. I couldn't try the octopus, but the portion was plentiful, and I had a bit of the noodles on the bottom after making sure there were no tentacles, as well as trying the sauce. The sauce was tasty, spicy, and very flavorful. We went with two of the Korean BBQ meats, one beef and one pork. My preference of the two was surprisingly the $49.99 Charcoal Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs/Yangnyeom Galbi/양념갈비. This also came with two veggies: kabocha squash and asparagus. The beef was extremely tender, had the perfect mix of fat and meat, and had only a light sweetness from the marinade. This was absolutely delicious and very much worth the price point. Also tasty was the Grilled Pork Belly/Samgyeopsal/삼겹살, for $36.95. This also came with a few things, including cabbage and a large mushroom. The pork belly was delicious, being just fatty enough and very tender as well, with a mild chew. The BBQ came with a few extra side dishes. This included a tasty steamed egg/Gyeran-jjim/계란찜, greens, an onion salad, ssamjang, salt, and a small boiling pot of soybean stew/doenjang jjigae. They were all tasty, though nothing particularly notable outside of the portions being generous. Also, at the end of the meal, they gave us some sujeonggwa. Not much for me to complain about this place. The food was very tasty overall, and the service was wonderful. I would go back and order a full beef BBQ set.
