Hanuel Babsang has quickly become one of my go to spots whenever I'm craving stew. The interior of this restaurant is extremely cozy and authentic. If you get a chance, you should sit by the heated benches in the back. My boyfriend and I ordered the kimchi stew and the budae jjigae. Both stew were so rich in flavor, everything was cooked to perfection. Truly the perfect meal for when you need something to warm you up or comfort food. There was some sort of creaminess to the budae jjigae, I'm not sure how they make it, but it is different from a lot of stews I've had in the best way. Really good! The owners of this store are really happy and enthusiastic, you can tell they really put their heart into what they do. I would say that they don't speak a lot of English, so if you don't speak Korean they might be a little more hesitant or intimidated to speak to you. For us, service was decent! TLDR; extremely hole in the wall Korean stew shop, great stews, decent service. Must try!

So first, props to all the elites source reviewed this place and guided me here. Thank you. My friends give me the credit for your hard work... but, we're all just ambassadors after all... Okay, yes, clean hole in the wall with 6 tables. In the middle of the day on a Monday we only waited 10 minutes. They have self serve tea refills by the entrance. The menu is relatively limited and they speak just enough English. Entering else there was an older Korean. They appeared to all order stews, so I followed suit. I had the kimchi stew. It was tangy and spicy and hot. It had a substantial amount of thinly sliced pork belly. It tasted divine. And came with a bowl of rice, that I shockingly finished because I wanted to soak up all the broth. My friend had the bulgogi, it came with transparent noodles and was hearty. They came with 4 banchans, dandelion greens, pickled radish, pickled cucumber and thinly sliced fish. I loved the dandelion and radish, the cucumber was good. The fish was too fishy for my taste. You can get rrefills on the banchans too. It was pricey, but considering the quantity, it was reasonable. I'll be back.

Homey hole in the wall Korean food like your Korean granny might make. Not an extensive menu, and more oriented to Koreans (think loach, octopus, duck, entrails), place hits the spot when looking for opposite to Hamjibak. Prices are decent, booze prices are lower than market (8 soju 5 beers 10 makguli). Good place to order some spicy Korean food and drink with your Korean friends. Lots of locals and other grandparents eating here, my mom gave them an approval..she's a tough judge. Got army stew (comes in the copper stew pot, good to share) and cold noodle nangmiun. Had yukgejang (spice beef stew) and kalbitang (short rib soup) before. All pretty tasty, generous portions and decent prices. Language will be a barrier for some. Owner operator, husband works the tables and wife in the kitchen.

Lately I've been going to low-key hole in the wall Korean restaurants. Most of these establishments are solely local Koreans. So you can imagine the shock staff gets when the solo brown woman comes (lmfao). Some offered me forks, others will ask if I can handle spicy food (make it hot). This spot was great. Lots of locals. Husband brings out the food and checks up on the customers to see if they are enjoying the meal. He will ask to refill your banchan and lastly smile when you say gamsamda when you leave. Prices are very reasonable. My dish was just $20. Card is accepted. Try out the mom and pop restaurants, they will surprise you.

Decided to come here on a cold and rainy night seeing all the reviews of this place. It had set my expectations really high! The husband took our order and was very nice with his limited English. The food does take a while to come out but that's probably because everything is made to order. The side dishes consisted of fish cake, zucchini, bean sprout, shredded potato, and I forgot what the other thing was. The taste was very mid for the side dishes The galbitang was pretty good. First time I ever got it with an egg in it (we love eggs). Taste was good and light. I do wish the meat was a bit more tender. The Korean noodles in there was cooked to perfection The pork kimchi stew was pretty standard as well. Flavors were a bit more sour than what I am used to. As well with this dish, I wish the pork was more tender. Total came out to $35 before tip. Tax is included with prices. The service was good so don't be intimidated if you don't speak Korean **if you sit on the bench, it's a heated seat and you can watch the TV

My boyfriend and I came to flushing in search of a good spot for kimchi jjigae and this place didn't disappoint! The stew was delicious and the broth had good flavor. We came at a pretty slow time so the food came out fast. The dish came with banchan which were also pretty god.

A true hole in the wall, mom & pops shop. Haneul Babsang is located in a side street that I would've assumed to be a residential street. The interior of the restaurant feels almost like you stepped into someone's home turned makeshift restaurant - there's about 5 small tables, and the interior is definitely cozy. Tea & water are self serve, and you can sit wherever there's a table. Another group of diners called out for the owner for us, since he was in the kitchen. One note about the seating - try to snag a seat with the heated bench in the back! I've been on the search for a good dakgaejang (spicy chicken stew) since Hansol closed down, so I was ecstatic to see it on the menu here. My fiance ordered their kimchi stew. Orders take about 20 minutes to come out, since its made to order. Again, truly a mom & pops shop so please have some patience! The banchan here was quite tasty. I'm not sure what kind of kimchi it was (mustard greens maybe), but I really enjoyed this. When our stews came out, they were piping hot and portions were huge! The dakgaejang, while good, was not quite what I was expecting unfortunately. I desperately wanted to love it, but it was almost a bit reminiscent of samyang ramen. That being said, it was still good, and definitely on the spicier side. The kimchi stew was also good, but definitely more sour than I would've expected. It would pair perfectly though with some pork belly (which they have for KBBQ). Service was done by the owner himself, and he was incredibly hospitable even though there was a clear language barrier. He checked in to make sure we had enough food, and cracked a few jokes with a few other diners. Cash and card are both accepted. Our meal came out to $32 only, which is really a steal for how big the portions were. Would definitely give it a try again.

The food was amazing! We ordered budae jijae, kimchi stew, and spicy beef stew. The total was $49 + tip!! Amazing prices! The restaurant may require some level of Korean, the server spoke in Korean for the most part. But I was able to order by reading the menu letter and number. Service was slow as there was only the couple working the restaurant but the food was amazing! After a 45-min wait, our food arrived bubbling. There was so much for the price tag, that we had leftovers to take home! Highly recommend for a long lunch. Very casual spot!

I can eat a bowl of rice with this ban chan only... Free, but they are amazing.

Please keep this place as secret. It is two blocks from Northern Blvd. It runs by an elderly couple. Mom is the chef & the father is taking order and helper. It is very small place. They have very limited English. Just point to the menu and he will get it. If you love Korean soup or stews, this is the place. Not BBQ. Very traditional, tasty and excellent. I have been visiting this place for years. Please do not expect excellent service. You are in the wrong place. I fill up my own water all the times. Not the place for party either. It is more like a canteen and home. Anything you point/order, you can get wrong choices. But Guk bab (not on the menu) is higly recommended if you love organs and tongue, Yukgaejang (shredded beef), buddae jiggae (army soup), and more. Beware, their banchans are simple, but taste great. Stop eating them before the entree coming. Their soup/stew size is huge. You will feel too full when you finish them.

What a neighborhood GEM!! Kuku Korean was fantastic! Fresh, tasty food at reasonable prices!…read more We (6 of us) were in the neighborhood for a Valentine's Day celebration and searched Yelp for a good ethnic restaurant in the area. We came across Kuku Korean and said YESSS, this is the place to go! The only wrench in our plans was that Kuku Korean doesn't take reservations; not even on Valentine's Day! They warned us that they expected to be very busy that evening, and to expect a wait. Ok, we made plans to go, but also made a Resy with another restaurant close by, as a backup plan in case there was a long wait for a table. But really, Kuku Korean was our preferred first choice. After our V Day event, we rushed over to Kuku Korean to see what the wait time was for a table for 6. It was just after 6pm, and the stars were aligned for us, because we got the last large table available! Woo Hoooo! Happy Valentine's Day to us!! We quickly cancelled our Resy with the other restaurant (sorry!) and perused Kuku Korean's fabulous menu. Our MENU (shared by 6ppl): ~ Seafood Pajeon ($24/large): Crispy battered pancake made with green onions & seafood (mussels, clams, squid, and shrimp). This was phenomenal! So much seafood and such a comforting dish...get this! ~ Veg Japche ($21): Stir-fried Korean vermicelli with Kuku soy-garlic Japchae sauce and assorted veggies. This dish was also available with various proteins but we opted for Veg since we were ordering other meat dishes. This dish was so flavorful and delicious. ~ Kuku Bibimbap ($24): Seasoned vegetables over rice, topped with a fried egg. Served with Kuku spicy bibim sauce. Again, you have the option of adding protein to this dish but we kept it veg. Another great dish! ~ Pork Galbi ($28): Char-grilled Pork ribs marinated in Kuku sauce, served with sauteed onions. Served with kimachi, daily banchan & purple rice. The pork was cut in thick slices, which was surprising, but wow, this was phenomenal! So tasty and lean, and just delicious. ~ Beef Bulgogi ($33): Sauteed thinly sliced beef rib-eye marinated in Kuku sauce with mushroom, Served with kimachi, daily banchan & purple rice. Another phenomenal dish. Bursting with flavor. -- Spicy Squid ($28): Stir-fried squid in spicy Kuku gochujang sauce, onions, hot pepper and carrot. Served with kimachi, daily banchan & purple rice. This squid was prepared perfectly; not over cooked nor rubbery! Great dish. - Ban Chan: generous unlimited servings; fresh & delicious. These 6 dishes, plus Ban Chan was perfect for 6 ppl to share. We finished everything and were fully satisfied. Every single dish was delicious and we ALL said we wanted to return to Kuku Korean to repeat some dishes and try new dishes. Customer service and atmosphere were great. The busser staff did an amazing job and were even more attentive than our server (who we only saw twice)...kudos to the bussers! They were so hard working, with a smiling, friendly attitude! Give them a raise! Looking forward to a return visit to Kuku Korean...hopefully SOON!!

The menu is also very cute and I'm guessing handmade. It was pretty detailed and we appreciated learning about each dish before deciding what to order. We ended up ordering the Kimchi Pancake with seafood, the spicy bulkoki udon and the jeyuk udon. The kimchi seafood pancake was super crispy and filled with squid and shrimp! It also came with a semi sweet dipping sauce that paired nicely. Both udons came out piping hot and fresh! Udon had a nice chew to it, was loaded with vegetables as well as meat for each dish. The egg was fried and did not have a runny yolk. For sides, they gave us 4 things- a tomato salad, kimchi cucumbers, braised string beans, and bean sprouts. The tomato salad came in this cute apple shaped dish but neither of us really cared for it- this is completely biased though since we're not really fans of tomato. What we really did love was the kimchi cucumbers! Also at the end, they served us 3 pieces of cantaloupe which were very sweet. Overall, yummy food, cute shop, and friendly/nice staff! I'd come back to try their other food options in the future!

A couple of us shared a $13 bottle of the green grape flavor of Chum Churum, a soju. In terms of banchan, there was a bunch. Everyone got a cold and refreshing cabbage soup as well as a very tasty version of Braised Tofu/Dubu-jorim/두부조림. Once we ordered, we also got a bunch of other banchan, including cabbage, radish, and cucumber Kimchi, broccoli and cauliflower Namul, Marinated Mushrooms/Beoseot Bokkeum/버섯볶음, Anchovies With Peanuts/Myeolchi Bokkeum/멸치볶음, and Potato/Gamja Salad/감자샐러드. One of the other things brought out was a pretty tasty version of Raw Soy Sauce Marinated Crab/Ganjang-Gejang/간장게장. Most of these were refillable. The first actual thing that arrived was something that I can't eat, the $22.99 Seafood Pancake/Haemul Pajeon/해물파전. I have a cephalopod allergy, or in other words, anything with tentacles, so I avoid squid and octopus, and seafood pancakes always contain one of those two. Everyone else enjoyed it, though. The pajeon I could eat was the Kimchi Jeon/김치전 for a dollar less. It was pretty tasty, though I prefer other spots that had a bit more of a crisp. Next was one of their signatures, the grilled duck. Going from online reviews, we went with the non-spicy version, as people prefer it, as the spicier marinade overpowers the duck. This was the $29.99 Sang Ori Gui/생오리구이. The sliced duck was on a hot, sizzling plate, with there also being a lot of grilled onions and scallions. The duck had a mix of pieces, ranging from fatty to less so, and had a nice mix of textures. This was easily one of my favorites, though I liked it even more when paired with the ssamjang that arrived with the BBQ, as the sauce balanced the light fattiness. Arriving at a similar time was the last thing I couldn't eat, the Spicy Stir-Fried Baby Octopus on Iron Plate/Jjukkumi Cheolpan Bokkeu/철판쭈꾸비볶음, for $30.99. I couldn't try the octopus, but the portion was plentiful, and I had a bit of the noodles on the bottom after making sure there were no tentacles, as well as trying the sauce. The sauce was tasty, spicy, and very flavorful. We went with two of the Korean BBQ meats, one beef and one pork. My preference of the two was surprisingly the $49.99 Charcoal Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs/Yangnyeom Galbi/양념갈비. This also came with two veggies: kabocha squash and asparagus. The beef was extremely tender, had the perfect mix of fat and meat, and had only a light sweetness from the marinade. This was absolutely delicious and very much worth the price point. Also tasty was the Grilled Pork Belly/Samgyeopsal/삼겹살, for $36.95. This also came with a few things, including cabbage and a large mushroom. The pork belly was delicious, being just fatty enough and very tender as well, with a mild chew. The BBQ came with a few extra side dishes. This included a tasty steamed egg/Gyeran-jjim/계란찜, greens, an onion salad, ssamjang, salt, and a small boiling pot of soybean stew/doenjang jjigae. They were all tasty, though nothing particularly notable outside of the portions being generous. Also, at the end of the meal, they gave us some sujeonggwa. Not much for me to complain about this place. The food was very tasty overall, and the service was wonderful. I would go back and order a full beef BBQ set.
