The restaurant gives a casual and simple vibe. My go to order is the Donkatsu and Spicy Carbonara. The Donkatsu comes out extra crispy with a side of sauce. The Spicy Carbonara has a subtle kick to it. These dishes have always been consistent whenever I ordered them. They are also very generous with their portions. Staff members are friendly and always asked if I needed anything. I've also ordered these to items as to-go and I would recommend eating at the restaurant. Came for family dinner on a Saturday evening & the restaurant was about 50% full. There aren't too many tables and it's very no frills inside. We decided on 3 kimchi stews, thinking these would be more individually portioned but we were so wrong. Each order is massive & could easily serve 2. It's really worth it considering the price, but I thought the stew was kind of mediocre. Having read through other reviews, I had high hopes but was quite disappointed by how the stew lacked depth. The kimchi sourness was kinda there, but despite the large amount of pork & kimchi, there was no real taste to the broth. I did enjoy the tonkatsu here - it was really crispy & the order was massive. The carbonara is a little too heavy for my liking, but tasty for a small bite here and there. Also funny enough, with the restaurant name, I thought we would get cabbage kimchi as a banchan! Found this place recently and have been back two times since! The establishment is no frills, food is relatively cheap, and service is quick. The galbi tang here is solid, and the meat portions are good! The donkatsu is also perfectly crispy and juicy. I wasn't a huge fan of the bulgogi, but that's a personal preference. I really liked this place. It's a small business that does home style Korean food well. Though the space is small they had a steady influx of customers for take out and eat in. The food is made to order and it's so homey. The portions are ginormous and tasty. My beef bulgogi stew was so packed with beef. The katsu was two layers of crispy goodness. Stew was hearty and spicy. The banchan is fresh and refillable. The wait staff are all attentive and have great suggestions. Can't believe I haven't written a review for this place! It's one of my comfort food places. Only thought to look this up on Yelp because I ordered takeout 2x this week. When I first walked in, it looked like a little mom and pop dumpling store. They provided a warm ambiance with a cozy home feeling. The sides were just okay, however once the food arrived we were all pleasantly surprised. My family and have been coming to this establishment since it opened it's doors. Great food which comes in large portions. They have all the Korean staple dishes like seafood tofu soup, bulgogi over rice, spicy pork and octopus over rice, hangover soup.. They also offer a giant donkatsu which almost everyone gets to share family style. If you're on the mood for something g different t they also offer several Italian pasta dishes that seem to be popular. Me personally I go there for their delicious Korean dishes. The place is small and there are a handful of tables. Street metered parking is usually available out front or across the street if you get ther before 7:00pm when the meters end. Prices are very reasonable and the food is always spot on. However, the staff was busy with all of the take out orders that kept piling in. The banchan was good but nothing to rave about, but their food lived up to its hype. The "apps" or banchan that came were nothing special and probably the least favorite thing of the whole meal. At least give me a small plate of kimchi! However the main event meal was a hit. Probably one of the best kimchi jjigae I've had. The kimchi had a pleasant funk (a good thing), it wasn't too spicy either. The tofu was silky smooth, the pork was tender and NOT chewy or overcooked. To put simply, dining at I am Kimchi felt like the nostalgic experience of eating at a friends house for dinner. The inviting staff, as well as the homely atmosphere, paired with the courteous service made it feel like we were treated like family. There is nothing more comforting than eating somewhere with such a homely and kind atmosphere. To top of it, the food was great, the quality of each dish was great, and the price for the portion sizes were amazing. Each dish could probably feed two people, for cheaper prices than I've seen at most places! The don katsu was crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, and the cheese, freshly melted was soft and supple. Perfect paired with the sauce. The spicy pork was tender, soft, and flavorful. It was amazing when paired with the fish soup and side dishes. I've only ordered take out from I Am Kimchi. It's listed as a restaurant but it's pretty small and only seems to have a few tables. It's always empty when I go pickup. I always call before. Their menu is pretty basic, but man the food portions are huge and prices are decent. I ordered the carbonara pasta, pork cutlet and dumplings soup. They're all very good. I have to say the size of the cutlet is insane. It's bigger than my the size of my face. The service is nice. The ladies are polite. The food is on point. This place has a lot of style even if their artwork and name is borrowed from some place in the Galaxy. Their not too large interior is awash in simple blonde woods to give a natural comfortable aesthetic. When I saw the chef come from the back looking confident and cool wearing a head wrap along with comfortable cotton clothing - he could be an inspiration for an anime hero chef. I felt like we were in good hands. This place, as many in the area do, serve Korean soups, stews over rice dishes and katsu - the carbonara and shrimp aglio olio (garlic and oil) pasta were two items that caught my eye for not being typically seen served in Korean spots. While they both sound delicious I thought it might be too heavy for me so we opted for spicy squid and pork, and Don Katsu with cheese.. you know, lighter fare haha. An assortment of banchan came with our meal - pickled radishes and peppers, cabbage salad and of course the namesake kimchi. When our dishes are brought out I was struck by how large the portion size was which for sure makes this place stand out. Making it exemplary even further is the deliciousness of the food. We are given a mountain of spicy squid and pork so tender and with such great flavor. The Don Katsu I couldn't stop eating which was concerning because it came with two large, juicy, crispy cutlets - luckily I was able to stop myself. Donkatsu (Pork Cutlet with cheese) was too dry and not crispy. It taste little hard and chewy. I can tell this is a pre-cooked port cutlet. The donkatsu sauce is little sweet but not spicy, I really love it. Spicy squid & port with rice is very very spicy But the taste is still very good. Eating with cold noodle is a perfect match. That's why I also ordered a Kimchi cold noodle. But the Kimchi cold noodle takes 12.99. I don't think it's worthy of 12.99 for just a kimchi cold noodle. By the way, their kimchi is sweet and yummy. Another point satisfy me is their service. The staffs are very friendly and polite, always caring people, asking if we need anything else. So the experience here was really great though. I've been in the area to eat and came across this hidden gem of a Korean place. Albeit small, this place is a surprise to the heart. There is a warmth about this place that reminds you of someone's pride and joy put into a small sit-down family sized restaurant. The people here are always serving with joy and gladness for their work and towards their customers. They serve with such kindred voices that it's soothing. The service is what we really stood out here to me next to the food. It's as if they treat you here like their own children. Everything inside is clean and neat. The kitchen is semi-open and you get all of the cooking smells and can see the cooks at work. Since it's a small place, we had to wait for seating for about 15 minutes because this place appears to be loved by many but after being seated, we were quickly serviced and the food did not take long at all to come out. The food was really, really good. What else is left to say to describe how good the food is? It's not an exaggeration to say that because everything we ordered was a hit. The bulgogi was honestly better than most places I've had bulgogi from. It was so tender and flavorful and the broth was so good, we drank some of it. The don katsu was crispy, tender, and yummy! IT WAS SO CHEESY. There are layers on layers of cheese. The budaejjigae was also really good, perfectly spicy and everything was well cooked. The rice cakes were left to cook too long though. I would've liked them to be closer to al dente. The carbonara can be ordered normal or spicy. We opted for the spicy and we were trying to figure out how they made it spicy, we couldn't see it and couldn't put our mind on what the chef could've added to make it spicy. It wasn't too spicy however which was nice though. Perfectly creamy and just the right amount of cheese. It also comes with pieces of bacon. Everything was inexpensive IMO and very affordable. You can make a reservation over the phone but probably not necessary given it doesn't seem to be crowded. I ordered the carbonara ($12) bc of all the reviews here and my bf ordered the mixed stew (budae jjigae, $12). Both were so good and not too salty! Carbonara was rich but there was an Asian touch to the flavor (I don't know how to describe) which made it less heavy than traditional carbonara. Came here with my husband after seeing an IG reel, 10 minutes after sitting down another pair of girls came in from seeing the same reel. It's a small and homey restaurant, luckily there was no wait but I wouldn't mind waiting 20-30 minutes for the delicious meals this place offers. Neighboring tables were mostly families and locals, which is typical as it is a little bit tucked away and with great pricing. I had the galbi tang and it must have been the best galbi tang I've ever had. Deep flavor and great portion size. I am moving to the area soon and will definitely send my husband out to pick it up whenever I feel sick! He had the kimchi stew which was packed with pork (though I was a bit sensitive to the 액젓 (anchovy sauce?) taste) and unlike other kimchi stews, was served in what I can only describe as a mini wok.
