I had an amazing meal at the Basac after I've had this placed bookmarked for years. I'm so glad it was worth the wait and hype. We were a bit confused by their signage but the waiter was super patient and explained how their DIY dukbokki worked. We ordered the combo with the fish roe and cheese rice afterwards, along with a small order of boneless fried chicken. The dukbokki came out with a small hot pot burner and we were advised to eat the ramen noodles first. The rice cake and vegetables cooked down and was a good amount of spice for "regular". The fried chicken was crispy and sweet. Halfway into the meal, we realized we couldn't finish the rice cake and asked the waiter how we could proceed to the next phase for the rice. He measured out a bowl of sauce from the rice cake and added the sauce, rice, cheese, seaweed and fish roe into the pot to cook. The rice was so flavorful with umami and very cheesy. Most of it had to be packed to go but I was very satisfied. The DIY combo was a bit pricey but definitely worth the experience.

What you see in Korea but you pay U.S. price. Food is awesome good and the servers are also Korean. Ambiance is totally Korean how you write on walls at your local "snack shops (where they sell fried food and tteokbokki)." Parking is a hassle, but where isn't in Flushing?! I am recognizing the cronch at Basac, you'll have fun here.

    Donkatsu with cheese

Went here when it was empty and dined in. It took awhile for my 1 dish that I ordered but I did notice a lot of to go orders, so I guess that's ok? Small tables and chairs. So if you're a big party or person, good luck. I was in the mood for donkatsu and ordered the donkatsu with cheese. It came with a ok miso soup, some banchan that was eh. And your typical salad at Korean restaurants. The katsu itself was edible and Way too much cheese. You do get a bottle of sauce that you can use to your hearts content. Same with the salad dressing. It was one of those meals where you say to yourself, it's ok but let me just finish it. Then you feel like garbage. Should've stuck with a regular donkatsu but I still don't think it would've been that much better. Service from the waiter was good but the food I was. It impressed with and I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

This katsu is fried to perfection with crispy breading while retaining the moist and tender pork texture and flavor. I really enjoyed the Cheese Katsu - the cheese was ooey and gooey in the best way possible while still being super crunchy on the outside! Paired very nicely with the refreshing cabbage salad. Best tip from our server: put the cutlet sauce in the grounded sesame seeds for extra umami and savory flavor!

Got our usual cheesy pork cutlet and shrimp cutlet (which is breaded shrimp; just to make sure bec looked like an over-rice dish during a previous visit; comes with tartar sauce but would prefer with tempura sauce). Tried the fried rice omelet, which went great with the cutlets and the pork stuffed pepper, came with tempura sauce. I will try more of their Basac street food options next time - by piece but can make a combo of them. I liked that they left a squeeze-bottle of the dressing for the shredded cabbage. Corndog with cornflakes was just ok. Their udon broth is on the sweeter side. Pay cash for 5% off bill.

We came here because we were really craving Korean street food and this hit the spot. We got the sweet garlic boneless chicken, dukbokki, and the cheese kimbap. The kimbap was simple, but very delicious. The food comes out pretty quickly too. We enjoyed our simple but yummy meal here and I'm already looking forward to trying more food from here- I saw lots of people getting the sets and the diy dukbokki. Some people even come here by themselves and there is no judgment, just quick and easy service.

    Fried Rice Wrapped with Omelette

The Basac is a small but spacious Korean restaurant tucked away in Murray Hill, Queens. The exterior is unbelievably unassuming, but the interior is cool and vibrant, with recycled shipping containers and black sharpie doodles for walls. Do keep an eye on the sign though as you walk down the street or you just might miss the place; I've certainly done that aplenty. * Sanuki Udon $14.95 My partner and I were shocked by how delicious this was. The udon was thick, firm, and bouncy, but the broth was the clear star of the show. I don't even like dashi and soy sauce-based broths, but would 100% reorder this. * Fried Rice Wrapped with Omelette $15.00 I just had a simple curry omurice a few days prior, but this one was in a whole other ballpark. The complexity of flavors was mindblowing; you have the smokiness of the bacon, the sweet caramelization of the roasted bell peppers and onions, and the tanginess of the ketchup and gravy. It's definitely a bit much after a few bites but the shredded cabbage on the side offsets that heaviness. * Regular Kimbap $8.00 Solid kimbap. I had my eye on the cheese kimbap (which is just the addition of a slice of American cheese), but my partner said no. Thank god he did, because the omelette left me feeling stuffed, and hence I left him in charge of finishing the kimbap :) **They offer a 5% cash discount, so bring cash!

3.5 stars overall for the food. 5 stars for the excellent service! Korean Street Food at The Basac is exactly the meal you want for a night out, simple and tasty, to get your drink on and to enjoy the warm full belly you'll have when done. My first visit was for take out so I'm so glad to have a first sit-down meal here. Everything we ordered was good and definitely street food options on the menu. I love that it's no frills and just good. Some dishes could be better but I had ordered with a select group of folks who are not so adventurous. Stick to the basics and you'll be fine. The fried corn dogs were a hit with the family. So nice to have it in house rather than to go given the texture. The fries were a hit as well, so much flavor and the sauce as well as the toppings made it a full appetizer. I ordered 6 pcs of fried dumplings. Note: the fried dumplings are by piece so you can order as little or as many as you like. These were delicious and filled with glass noodles and veggies. And my main was the cheese topokki. I am a wuss when it comes to heat but this was just tolerable. It was really good, I just couldn't eat too much. My tongue was on fire which I washed down with the peach soju. Problem solved. Hee hee Totally recommend this place for a casual and quick dinner. Perfect for the drinking buddies and those who love K-Street food. Favorite dish was still the omelette rice.

This is how good it was!

Legit the best donkatsu in all of queens!! Here's the move... 1. Get the curry donkatsu 2. Ask for the curry on the side 3. You can use curry as a dipping sauce for the donksatsu or for your rice without the donkatsu getting soggy! The fried rice after the ddukbokki is a MUST! Game changer! Shoutout to Ian for being the best!!

Tried Basac Katsu for the first time and everything hit the spot. The katsu was super crispy and flavorful, and they even threw in a few extras which was a nice touch. Really solid meal overall -- definitely coming back.

Order: - Set (Tonkatsu + Spicy Rice Cakes) (4/5) - Boneless Fried Chicken with Sweet Garlic Sauce (4/5) - Fish cake with Soup (4/5) Pros: - Large food portions - Great set menus to try different katsu and sides Cons: - Small restaurant that can get busy around lunch time on the weekends - Boneless chicken can be a little dry and it doesn't help that the outside is very crispy Overall: A good spot in Flushing for tonkatsu. Definitely not the best tonkatsu I've ever had, but it's a good spot for lunch with their set menus

Few things are better than comfort food and the Basac does it very well. A local neighborhood spot, the theme is pretty neat - they use the walls of a shipping container to give off the vibe that you're eating in one. Definitely unique. The menu here is nothing high brow - katsu of various flavors, spicy rice cakes and kim bap but everything here is fresh and tastes awesome. The katsu was the perfect size and was pounded to order and then fried. The flavor was perfect as was the way they cooked the cutlet - perfectly juicy. If you've got an appetite, you can also throw in a small side of spicy rice cakes for a few bucks more which is nice in case you don't have the stomach to eat an entire side order. Prices here are very reasonable and the owners here are friendly and welcoming. If this place was closer to downtown Flushing, I'd be here every week but I'm willing to trek a bit out of the way to eat here again. Thumbs up.

    DIY Ddukbokki $25.99
    Emily C.

I've always wanted to come here to try the DIY ddukboki so finally I have! I came on a Saturday evening and there weren't many people inside so my friends and I were seated immediately. There were several tables inside anyway even though it's a fairly small space. We ordered the DIY ddukboki which was $25.99 and well worth the price. It was packed with rice cakes, fish cakes, thin glass noodles, ramen, and vegetables. It also cooks fairly quick so as we were eating, the sauce thickened quick and the liquid was drying out. We even turned off the burner since the noodles were getting stuck to the bottom but then the sauce got even thicker since it wasn't getting heated up anymore. It was also really spicy. I was able to handle the spice but beware if you have a low spice tolerance! Plus, there's the heat of the spice and the heat of the temperature combined, so we went through several napkins. We also ordered the cornflake corn dog with half cheese and half sausage ($5.49). This was disappointing. The batter was really thick and there was no cheese pull. I'd rather go to one of the many shops that have been opening up that sell Korean corn dogs. The flavor was also a bit odd so I didn't really like it. I also wanted to try the fried rice that people usually order after the ddukboki but we actually got very full from this and was getting tired of the spice, which can get overwhelming after a while. They didn't ask what level of spice we wanted either so maybe ask the staff about it if you choose to order this. Good spot to check out for Korean food. The menu has a good variety of different dishes to choose from whether you want noodles, rice, dduboki and more. Skip the corn dogs!

Do you guys offer vegan food and out door dining?

Not sure if anything is vegan however, theyre offering outdoor seating.

Are the korean cheese dogs just cheese or with meat? Can i get just cheese?

There's two different types of meat that you can get with it - pepper or regular. There's also another option where it's the meat and the cheese. But there's no option where it's just cheese but you can probably ask for it (no guarantees though!)

We ended up ordering the Kimchi Pancake with seafood, the spicy bulkoki udon and the jeyuk udon. The kimchi seafood pancake was super crispy and filled with squid and shrimp! It also came with a semi sweet dipping sauce that paired nicely. Both udons came out piping hot and fresh! Udon had a nice chew to it, was loaded with vegetables as well as meat for each dish. A couple of us shared a $13 bottle of the green grape flavor of Chum Churum, a soju. In terms of banchan, there was a bunch. Everyone got a cold and refreshing cabbage soup as well as a very tasty version of Braised Tofu/Dubu-jorim/두부조림. Once we ordered, we also got a bunch of other banchan, including cabbage, radish, and cucumber Kimchi, broccoli and cauliflower Namul, Marinated Mushrooms/Beoseot Bokkeum/버섯볶음, Anchovies With Peanuts/Myeolchi Bokkeum/멸치볶음, and Potato/Gamja Salad/감자샐러드. One of the other things brought out was a pretty tasty version of Raw Soy Sauce Marinated Crab/Ganjang-Gejang/간장게장. Most of these were refillable. The first actual thing that arrived was something that I can't eat, the $22.99 Seafood Pancake/Haemul Pajeon/해물파전. I have a cephalopod allergy, or in other words, anything with tentacles, so I avoid squid and octopus, and seafood pancakes always contain one of those two. Everyone else enjoyed it, though. The pajeon I could eat was the Kimchi Jeon/김치전 for a dollar less. It was pretty tasty, though I prefer other spots that had a bit more of a crisp. Next was one of their signatures, the grilled duck. Going from online reviews, we went with the non-spicy version, as people prefer it, as the spicier marinade overpowers the duck. This was the $29.99 Sang Ori Gui/생오리구이. The sliced duck was on a hot, sizzling plate, with there also being a lot of grilled onions and scallions. The duck had a mix of pieces, ranging from fatty to less so, and had a nice mix of textures. This was easily one of my favorites, though I liked it even more when paired with the ssamjang that arrived with the BBQ, as the sauce balanced the light fattiness. Arriving at a similar time was the last thing I couldn't eat, the Spicy Stir-Fried Baby Octopus on Iron Plate/Jjukkumi Cheolpan Bokkeu/철판쭈꾸비볶음, for $30.99. I couldn't try the octopus, but the portion was plentiful, and I had a bit of the noodles on the bottom after making sure there were no tentacles, as well as trying the sauce. The sauce was tasty, spicy, and very flavorful. We went with two of the Korean BBQ meats, one beef and one pork. My preference of the two was surprisingly the $49.99 Charcoal Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs/Yangnyeom Galbi/양념갈비. This also came with two veggies: kabocha squash and asparagus. The beef was extremely tender, had the perfect mix of fat and meat, and had only a light sweetness from the marinade. This was absolutely delicious and very much worth the price point. Also tasty was the Grilled Pork Belly/Samgyeopsal/삼겹살, for $36.95. This also came with a few things, including cabbage and a large mushroom. The pork belly was delicious, being just fatty enough and very tender as well, with a mild chew. The BBQ came with a few extra side dishes. This included a tasty steamed egg/Gyeran-jjim/계란찜, greens, an onion salad, ssamjang, salt, and a small boiling pot of soybean stew/doenjang jjigae. They were all tasty, though nothing particularly notable outside of the portions being generous. Also, at the end of the meal, they gave us some sujeonggwa. Not much for me to complain about this place. The food was very tasty overall, and the service was wonderful. I would go back and order a full beef BBQ set.

You would think we would order Chinese food but we ended up here. No regrets though. We ordered the pork bbq and it was delicious, presentation was good along with the banchan side dishes. In addition, I also received the gaejang (marinated raw crab) which was a nice touch. We also ordered the daegi gukbap (pork soup with rice), a comfort dish and kimchi pancake which was really tasty. Our server was good. We arrived past the busier lunch hourso this was a pleasant non-hurried experience.
