This spot is underrated, most likely because it's a traditional Korean restaurant rather than one that's more modern or caters to younger people. As in actual Korean families dine here. It can definitely feel a bit intimidating if you don't have an older Korean person with you, especially since there're different rules than western restaurants (what a concept, different cultures have different concepts of service). No underaged girls in skirts forced smiling and flirting around here, so sorry!! Tbh, this Korean BBQ spot should be 5 stars for the flavor of kalbi/galbi alone, as it's one of the best in NYC and probably the best in Flushing/Bayside area. Kalbi means short-ribs. There's several different styles, but long as it's marinated, it all works for me. Most traditional Korean BBQ places expect 2 servings of meat or a combo order, as the value is in the table side fire/grill and the assortment of random/seasonal side dishes, such as things to make lettuce wraps (sauces, dressed scallions, etc.), kimchi and pickled dishes, stir-fried vegetables, etc. and probably a tofu stew (daengjang jjigae) and steamed egg gyeranjjim). Without calling any out, a modern or appropriated KBBQ/"JBBQ" spot would likely charge you an extra $8-12 per side dish, or just as much for a bit of raw vegetables, which makes traditional KBBQ joints more family-friendly than a date spot. The naengmyun dishes hold their own as well, which are cold noodles that either come with an iced cold broth or spicy sauce. I prefer the bibim naengmyun myself (spicy mixed noodles). Remember, the noodles and the sauce is the star here, and the toppings are just accents (usually shredded radish, slice of Korean pear, slice of brisket, and half a hard-boiled egg - make sure you take a bite of the egg with the sauce or sip of the broth). Make sure you mix up the noodles as soon as you get it because they tend to stick! If you ordered the ice water noodles (myul naengmyun), you have the option of adding vinegar and mustard into it They also have a "for tasting" or "half-portion" version of cold noodles if you ordered table-side Korean BBQ. It usually doesn't come with the bells and whistles, although think this restaurant still gives you some radish and egg as toppings. They have ton of traditional Korean dishes as well if you're not in the mood for grilled meat, but what fun is that?
It's upsetting to see how this establishment has fallen. We ordered premium cuts- the beef was clearly glued together with beef glue- not actually whole cuts of beef. It's disgusting. You can tell its beef glue if you even just look at my photos below. The fat markings are a textbook example of beef glue construction. The banchan was also subpar, and sauces were mediocre. I packed the beef to take home after we ate since it was expensive but could not even bring myself to eat it because it was so disgusting- beef glue has a distinct taste.
Friday evening. Was seated quickly. Place was clean. Food was good. Service was good. They cooked the meats for you. Miso soup was a bit too salty. They only came to fill water once. Would return to try other stuff.

Came here about twice, and both times there were speedy service. The servers cook the meat for you, but they do cook pretty fast and to medium rare, so if you want something else (for me I like to eat pretty slow and my galbi cooked REALLY well.. like a little burnt..) you can just speak up and they will adjust to you. Highly recommended the mul naengmyeon to complement the marinated galbi!! Rice is not included with the meal, but steamed eggs and a soy bean paste stew are, as well as various side dishes which vary each time I go + veggies/wraps. When you ask for the check, you get a refreshing cinnamon drink which is a nice finisher to all the flavors that you put into your mouth :D

Whether it's beef or other parts of beef you can always expect well-prepared, high-quality cuts. Their side dishes are also fantastic--especially the yangyum gaejaeng (spicy marinated crab), which is always flavorful, along with their perfectly done steamed eggs and hearty dwenjangjjigae (fermented soybean stew). Despite the mixed reviews, if you're looking for a reliable spot with great BBQ meats and solid side dishes, Sansoogapsan is worth checking out.

They have a variety of dishes like soup, stir-fry dishes and KBBQ. During the summer, I order Bibim Naengmyeon with Kalbi. Other times, I may just want some good old Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Soup) or Kalbi Tang. Recently, I came here and ordered Yukgaejang while my sister ordered the Yukhwe Bibimbap after leaving my car nearby for an inspection. It seriously hit the spot. Yukhwe Bibimbap consists of seasonrd raw sliced beef, raw egg yolk, assorted veggies, pear, and rice (on the side). They provide red pepper sauce (gochujang) to mix with the dish. It's one of those dishes that people recommend to eat during the winter because it might get spoiled easily. However, when I tried a bite, it was delicious with a mixture of sweet, spicy, and salty. My sister had no regrets. My Yukgaejang was hearty. Thr soup was filled with scallion, shredded beef, cellophane noodle, and egg. Although it says spicy, I did not find it spicy at all. At the end of the meal, they gave a small bowl of a Cinammon Punch drink called Sujeonggwa. Do remember that this is not some fancy restaurant with superior service. You might need to flag down the staff if you want a refill of water. I would probably pass with the different pancakes they offer (seafood and kimchi) aa it's a hit or miss. They also have a lunch special menu that runs from Monday through Friday.
This is my second visit to this established kbbq restaurant, and was quite busy on a Friday evening (as expected). This one has been opened for a while, and I find the environment a bit more chill than some of the newer places that tend to blast kpop or have more trendy menu options. We ordered 2 cuts of beef (skirt and short rib, unmarinated) for the table (you must order one meat dish per person if you do kbbq) which came with the usual cold banchan (kimchi, bean sprouts, other veggies) as well as 2 warm banchan (steamed egg and a cucumber tofu soup), and 2 bowls of rice with dipping sauces, lettuce and scallions. The waitstaff will do all the legwork to cook your meat at the tabletop, and I found the meat to be grilled perfectly, not too over or under done. Both cuts were very good. Expect to pay about $40-50 per person for kbbq (outside of taxes and tip), which is pricey for Queens but pretty on par with Manhattan ktown.

It confirms you can't always go by Yelp reviews alone because everyone's perspective/experience can be so different. OR perhaps they improved their service after all the negativity? Honestly, it was almost overly attentive for me - Granted we went on a Tuesday around 6PM and there were less people than perhaps a weekend. But nonetheless, our server was really kind and consistently offered us guidance on how to eat Korean BBQ but eventually I was like ....I've eaten Korean BBQ a thousand times, we're good. I know how to use the damn lettuce wrap. Ok anyway, I don't care about all that - the biggest reason I'm writing this review is HOLY MOTHER OF BEST KIMCHI JJIGAE EVERRRR!!!! I've never had it taste so f*****g good in my life! For this sole reason I would go back. I almost can't wait for winter so I can have an excuse to eat it more often. (I hate winter) I was that impressed! Seasoned to absolute perfection with a little spicy kick, just the right color & immense freshness. Jesus. So good. SOOOO GOOOOOODDDDDDD!!! Ok, I think I made that painstakingly clear. You get the point. We had beef brisket, also very satisfying & I loved the amount of side dishes that were given. Skipped the soju & had an inexpensive house red that went along with everything just fine. But DO YOU get the point?!? Do not leave this restaurant without trying the Kimchi Jjigae if you generally like eating Kimchi Jjigae. You also have to actually like Kimchi. (Yes, captain obvious, I know.) I will return just to make sure it wasn't a fluke because I seriously can't believe it was that good.
Must try the marinade short ribs is very tender & juicy. Also, the Korean seafood pancake is super duper crispy. The pork combo was normal as well. The service is fantastic, we dine in like an hour before they closed. They didn't rush us n keep refill the side dishes n tea for us.

Like the other 1 star reviews left solely based off on their largely LACK of customer service -- here I am to share my horrific (racist) experience. TLDR; Was shoved verbally to leave by staff prior to closing time, with set intentions of incredibly racist motivated. Our table of 8 with resy at 7pm, ordered the following: * 2 of the Charcoal Lover's ($169/ea) * Jaeyook Bokkeum (spicy pork) * 2 Seafood Pancake * Japchae * Kimchi Jjigae * Soondoobu * multitude of soju bottles (8-10) * later added LA Kalbi in which staff gave us "to go" Total: $687.16 Tipped: $132.16 (20%) Grand total spent: $820.00 We came out on a small holiday and a birthday celebration dinner to treat our staff and their families. What was supposed to be a joyous dinner ultimately led to a sour and bitter taste in our mouths as we were told to leave prior to closing time of 9pm. It was 8:45 pm and as we tried to order 1 bottle of soju the waitress stated that we should head to another establishment who could serve us the very same liquor so that we may drink "'more". However, we were not looking to drink "more". We had merely wanted to end our dinner with just that 1 bottle of soju. She kept emphasizing that they closed at 9pm, tapping at her watch. In all my many years of frequent dining, never had I been pushed out so callously - before the establishment was even closed. Especially at an establishment that so (falsely) advertises "High Class Professional Service". Now I hate to mention this bit as I truly did not want to believe it was racially motivated yet upon hearing from fellow friends that this establishment is reputable for awful customer service that is largely racially motivated --- as well as glancing at other reviews -- it is clear that they felt comfortable to kick us out EARLY due to our guests who were not "Korean" / Asian. As a small local business all for supporting fellow small local businesses -- it is entirely to my dismay to have been met with such low hospitality. Especially when we chose this business to introduce KBBQ to our guests who were excited to have for the very first time. I'm sure they did not expect to be slapped with such audacious racism. It brings me tremendous disappointment, being a Korean person, where food is incredibly prevalent in our culture, and coming from a background of well endowed hospitality, to have been treated in such a raging despicable manner. The only thing thing this establishment is incredibly superb at is their astounding "LOW CLASS RACIST SERVICE".
Food was amazing. Service was spectacular. Their cold noodle () was to the point where we didn't have to add anything. We were so satisfied and wants to go back soon!

Our group of six had delicious food ordering one of the combos and adding a Galbi. The downside was having the woman cook our food while standing at the center of the table between me and my sister. I had to hold my plate in order to eat because I couldn't sit close the table and was leaning up next to my husband. When she left to take a break while we ate some of the food, I was able to pull my seat it and eat properly. She had explained that the grill was too far for her to reach from the side of the table. Other than that, the place wasn't too noisy and the food was good. The marinated gal bi was better than all the combo meats. The rib eye steak was my second favorite. I would consider coming back. My husband said there was no pleasing me - I complain when I have to cook the food and I complain when they cook for me. I pointed out I was only upset with the person taking my spot at the table causing me to eat with my plate in the air. read more

This was such a good lunch! I walked into San Soo Kap San 2 whilst waiting for an oil change nearby. I'd walked past earlier on my way to a small park about a block away and noticed it. I had another hour to wait and I was fully hangry, so I decided to walk back to Northern and try the restaurant I'd passed. I decided on the Bibimbap lunch special and I'm quite glad I did. At first I didn't think it would be enough food, (I skipped breakfast so my eyes were hungrier than my tummy). I'm glad I stuck with my selection, I hadn't expected so many banchan but I was pleasantly surprised! I was served different types of kimchi (radish, spinach, cabbage) marinated crab, miso soup, fish cake... everything was delicious. The meal had so many components but was still very light and yet still filling. I'm happy I popped in (I dined in their outside area) it was a great dining experience! read more

First let me say that the kalbi was amazing (flavorful and tender) but I prefer the LA style and not chunks the are aready cut up. The sauce they used is a secret recipe I heard, but what ever it was, it was flavorful and slightly sweet. The charcoal griling made it even better. They provide you with plenty of banchan and they have a great selection with alcoholic beverages. We went there with my in-laws and since they paid, I don't know how much it cost l so I can't speak on value in regards to cost. But I will say the meal was great and worth a visIit for anyone who likes AYCE Korean bbq. read more

Food: 4/5 I've been here numerous times for bbq and tried many things on their menu. I've tried their brisket, wagyu and their dry aged ribeye but wasn't satisfied until I eventually tried their short prime rib aka #4 on their rib menu. I've been ordering the same thing ever since I found "my thing". It has the perfect balance of fat and tenderness mixed into the perfect meal! Btw, they apparently own the butcher shop next door which might explain why I love their short prime rib and always come back for more! Consistency is key! Their side dishes are on point and they are very generous with seconds upon request. Usually when you order bbq, they give you a complimentary egg steam and a soybean paste soup on the side. Both are delish! Service: 5/5 The staff members here are always very generous and accommodating. They have taken very good care of me every time :) Ambiance: 3.5/5 Typical bbq spot from late 1990's maybe. Not your worst but not your best. Pretty spacious with many tables and seating. Very clean. Overall: 4/5 This is my go to place for prime rib. I recommend everyone gives it a try! They have great service and valet parking. read more

4.5 stars for food, ambience, service. I went for weekday lunch and walked into a spacious dining room with a relaxed decor. The host and wait staff were friendly, and it was easy getting their attention. The banchan was executed very well and each one brought a different flavor/texture component that had me asking for a refill. The galbi dolsot was comforting and well-balanced in its portioning of meat, veggie, and rice. The galbi was tender and flavorful. I wish there was more crispy rice in this dish. read more
Our go-to place outside of Fort Lee. It's always packed on the weekends. So we make it on the weekdays for dinner. Quick dinner set up as soon as you sit. The stews and kalbi(beef short rib) are our usual meal at places like this. Forget the rice. Just eat meat and veggies. You'll be stuffed and happy! read more

A very spacious KBBQ restaurant that also serves food other than bbq. I've been here before for KBBQ, but this time I tried some of their other food. Since it was a Saturday, we couldn't get their lunch special lunch boxes, so we opted for their tangs (soups) and noodle dishes. Order: - Kalbi tang (4/5) - Mul naengmyun (4/5) - Bibim naengmyeon (3/5) Pros: - Great restaurant for KBBQ - Have other options besides KBBQ - A lot of banchans - Fairly large portion size Cons: - Very expensive ~ the kalbi tang was almost $20 - The kalbi in my kalbi tang had a lot of fat on it. I wish they would have shaved some of it off. They also didn't give much kalbi, most of the pieces were really small Overall: - I'd recommend coming here if you want to get KBBQ, but if you're looking to get something else, you probably would have better lucky at another restaurant. read more

Great place to have korean bbq. We ordered #2 half marianated half not with 4 types of beef for five people. Ordered raw beef salad it was super yummy, it came out a bit frozen at the beginning so we waited a bit to get it back to room temperature. I think this is a must try dish. Seafood pancake was great like any Korean pancake, it's not too thick and crispy. We got 2 steamed eggs for free comes with the meal, love the miso soup appetizer and some side dishes like kimchi, boiled squid in hot chilli sauce with seaweed, dry squid. The waiters are pretty rude but we have waitress came over to serve later and they are very caring. They speak korean / Mandarin We waited 20mins around 8pm, restroom is clean and roomy. The only complain is it get Smoky when every table is doing bbq. (We walked out with not too much smell, i wish they give us a bag to put in our jacket to block the smell tho) Overall good experience and great meal. read more

Kudos to the staff of San Soo Kap San II! We presented them a challenge and they passed with flying colors. Scenario: Birthday for 16 guests, 1 child, and 1 guest with gluten allergies. Saturday evening. Reservation requested. They were extraordinary. Seating was comfortable and spacious. The service was incredible. They grilled all the food at the ends of the table to avoid burning the baby. They cooked the non-marinated meats on one grill at one end for the guest with gluten allergies (no Soy sauce). After the appetizers came out, the meat line commenced. I barely had a chance to pause. Every few minutes a plate was passed from one end of the table with a different type of meat. We had pork belly, marinated rib eye, short rib... wow. The apps were great also. The raw marinated crab, egg casseroles, pickled vegetables. The staff replaced these rapidly. I am very impressed with their ability to host such a group on a Saturday night. Granted we made the reservation at 5:30 pm to try to minimize the crowds, our guests were extremely pleased with the quality of food and the service. The location is also an ideal mid point for people coming from Long Island and others from Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Will definitely be coming again. read more

We had test dinner here in preparation to bring a large group in their party room due to Covid Pandemic. Appreciated the relaxed ambience and the spacious layout of tables with moveable partition separating groups. The restaurant has varied selection of tasty Korean Banchan, leaf for sum sum, everyone gets their own seasoned scallion salad, to share steamed egg casserole, to share soybean paste soup with veg and seafood, then we ordered Sachultung goat soup (from smaller portion lunch special at waitress recommendation), Sundubu soft tofu soup, amazing cold noodle soup Mool Neang Mun, because they didn't have different type BBQ meat combo we ordered Kalbi beef short Prime ribs and pork belly, will try spicy chicken next time, our friendly helpful waitress was concerned we ordered too much food for 3, grilled the meats for us and then watchful waiters were very attentive. All the tasty dishes are not overtly salty allowing for the KBBQ to take front stage! We definitely recommend this place and surprised why it only has 3.5 star. read more

Easily a 5-Stars experience Korean Barbecue! After craving Korean for the longest, my foodie Sensei bought us there. It was about 8:00 pm (which I would consider a 'late' dinner =P) but still, the place was still lively and a crowd waiting to be seated. I would say that it was about a 15 minutes wait but it goes by quicker when you have good company. The host was very accurate with his promised wait time for our party of two. He was not only very friendly but super upbeat and fun to talk to! Our dinner started with a table full of banchans: kimchi, spicy marinated squid, mountain vegetables, spinach, potato salad, pickled radish and carrots, japchae, and that soft steamed egg! That soft steamed egg was delicious and pipping hot! I could not help that I burnt my tongue in the middle of enjoying it but make sure you blow on it. Can I have another one please?! I was quite impressed with the charcoal grill, not only because I have never seen this before but it really gives it that perfect charred, burnt ends on the meat that I love. The netted grill is changed when cooking different meats. The sight of the fire cooking through our meat in front of us was making my mouth water! We started with the marinated Prime Rib-eye Steak. This was a thick piece of meat! I really did not taste too much flavor and I would like it better if it was more tender but it was some good quality meat. Next, we have the Angus Kalbi - A MUST ORDER! Texture was thin, chewy and tender to the extent that I like. The flavors were on the sweet side but I surprising loved it. Since we were unable to finish it, I bought home to for dinner next day - still freakin' DELICIOUS! To accompany our meal, we ordered a Spicy Codfish Soup. Soup had plenty of vegetables like that thin cut pieces of radish. Radish was cooked until it was see-thought and soft. I felt that the codfish was a little overcooked. This soup would make a great winter keep-me-warm choice. Spicy level was on the safe side but good enough for me to give it a thumbs up. Overall, this is definitely one of the best Korean barbecue I have ever had. I love the lively atmosphere and laughter from all patrons spending time with their family and friends. Is this a korean bbq where you can cook the food yourself?
You always can in Korean BBQ place. They usually cook it for you but you can tell them you want to cook yourself. Two BBQ items minimally as a rule for table cooking.
