It was crazy busy with literally hundreds of hungry people packed in an hour before a Paul McCartney concert across the street, so obviously we had to wait awhile for our food. And a table. That wasn't the problem. I asked for my meat to be well done; it was SO pink. My husband usually likes his medium rare, but it was too raw for even him. Yuck! Finally popped my shake shack cherry with a shake that was not topped with a cherry. This California boy got to match In-n-Out vs the great east coast staple. You should be scratching your head based on that statement. Shake Shack and In-N-Out are two totally different types of burger joints. From what I have gathered Shake Shack has no drive-thrus. I could be wrong. So there will be no comparisons. Best item I had there was their BBQ Chicken sandwich. Crispy and super tender on the inside. Great flavor or sauce and the bun was really good. The burger was good, but left me wanting. I just had too high of expectations I guess. For $7 I was expecting a little more and maybe some fries, but that is totally fine. Which is better: Shake Shack or In-N-Out? It's the deep philosophical question that can spur a coastal war. My verdict: without a doubt, In-N-Out is the queen bee. OK, you're probably going to accuse me of being biased since I'm from the West Coast. But it honestly depends on what you're looking for in a burger. I ordered the regular hamburger (so no cheese), and I was not that impressed. It tasted fine but I didn't find anything extraordinary about it. It was a standard burger. However, I was disappointed that my sandwich was cold. I also found the buns were too soft (compared to In-N-Out's buns which are toasted). Again, this is a personal preference but I like my buns to carry a slight crisp--each bite feels substantive. Shake Shack's buns tasted more airy and flat. The beef patty was juicy and nicely seasoned. They do use quality ingredients despite being a casual burger chain so props to them. Moreover, service is friendly and efficient. The space itself is clean and has an industrial/minimalist aesthetic. I didn't have the stomach capacity to try the fries and shakes so perhaps I'll update my review once I've had the chance. Raced down here to get my Shake Shack fix. Got here 2 mins before store closed, crossing fingers as I entered hoping they still would take my order. So happy they did! I've gone to some places where they either give you that "look" for coming in right when they were closing or flat out denied you. This Shake Shack was most friendly and didn't rush me when I was ordering. I was so happy to eat my meal in peace there and not have to get stank face looks at employees trying to get home. I would give an extra star, if I could, for how amazing they clean this place. I watched the employees clean everything from top to bottom. From the counters, the floors, the grill, the hood, (to the window! To the wall! *Lil Jon voice*) no stone was left unturned. Ahh, Shake Shack! This place often comes up when people are naming a great burger place, and I remember going to their original location in Madison Square Park and practically salivating at the thought of getting their burgers back in the day. I recently tried this newer location while visiting Brooklyn, and per usual, this Shake Shack was busy. I got a single ShackBurger, which was a tasty combination of cheese, tender meat, and a soft bun. I also got one of their concretes, deciding to try their special flavor of the week: caramel pretzel. To be honest, it tasted just like caramel and did not get what might be the pretzel flavor components. Maybe it was overpowered by adding the chocolate toffee bits, but it seemed somewhat lackluster. Which probably contributes to the sense that I have that while Shake Shack is great, it's a bit overhyped these days. I'm definitely still a fan, I'm just not as devoted as the old days back when it was still novel. read more

First off I've never been a fan of Shake Shack. Always thought their burgers were too greasy, the buns too soft and lame fries. But I kept hearing good things about the chicken sandwich and being in the area for a movie at BAM I decided it was time to try it. I like the look of this location. Very roomy. You order and get that lil mini vibrator thing and wait. Wait wasn't long as on a Saturday afternoon at about 4 there was literally no line. A first at the Shack. The sandwich itself was pretty outstanding. The chicken was incredibly crunchy but not at all greasy. The meat was very juicy and I assume it has to be brined. Accompanied by fresh lettuce, really nice,cool crunchy pickles and Mayo not that yucky shack sauce it was almost perfect. When is Shake Shack ever bad? I've been to all the ones in Manhattan - this is my first SS in Brooklyn. It's located conveniently outside of Barclays Center - just make sure you don't come here right after a Nets game, which is when I went. Luckily, I got there right when the game ended and went straight up to the register - no line at all. By the time we ordered and barely sat down, the line was out onto the sidewalk. Shake Shack is one of the solid places around Barclays Center that needs little to no thought. I ordered the Shackburger, an order of crinkle fries, and a root beer (on tap!) - they were all tasty as usual. Minus one star because my burger was a lot more soggy than I remember it being at the other Shake Shack's I've eaten at. The whole thing in general was way more greasy and most of my Shack sauce was towards one end of the burger. Plenty of seating, but beware of the after-game/show rush. This location, being one of the newest, seems more updates than others. There are 3 tvs in the restaurant showing sports, perhaps it's because it's across from the Barclays Center. It almost gives it a sports bar feel as a result. I got there at 4:15 and was pleased to see that there was no line. Once 5PM came, the line went to the door. But the staff seemed to be working quickly so everyone on like moved through quickly. At the time I was there it seemed to be the hang out spot for the high school students in the area. It was cute to see them all hanging out and having fun. I guess it's the modern day version of "The Max". On top of everything, Tom Colicchio was dining at the restaurant the evening I was there. The service is amazing. They are always courteous and respectful even though it looks like they are stressed abd tired. No one can blame them either with an open kitchen looking into everything they do, or even listen to their conversation. But none the less they are nice people. The manager or the person at the kitchen controlling everything definitely is a nice dude, and always smiles greeting everyone. The place is so awesome. I kinda of like the style of the building and openness and size of it. It's very calm and even when they have rock songs on it doesnt feel out of place being here. The wood seating seems really cool to me. It is right across the Barclay and atlantic mall do there is so much to see and do while you eat here. The food is great too. Due to prices being high-reason I give it four stars- and the burgers tasting nothing special I dont come here much. But I would say try SmokeShack for sure cause of the spiciness factor. read more

With the expanding Shake Shack empire this one is situated in Brooklyn across from the Barclay's Center. Great for before or after event eats. It's a large ample space and they provide beer as well. Go for the smoke shack burger which had great juicy flavor in the meat and accompanied with italian red peppers, bacon, shack sauce and lettuce and tomato. Simply fills the stomach with excitement. Fries were crispy and crinkly which were a highlight. Had the shakemeister dog as well. A nice beefy hot dog with cheez wiz and fried shallots. I've had better hot dogs but it was really about the flavorful toppings. Brooklyn Shake Shacks are enjoying an influx in popularity over their Manhattan counterparts (or any other location). All thanks to the new ChickenShack sandwich! The ChickenShack is definitely up there as far as chicken sandwiches go. The perfectly breaded, perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried, perfectly juicy chicken patty is well, perfect. The accompanying pickles and herbed mayo are great with the chicken. IF ONLY they had gotten the bun right. Explain to me why the top bun is warm, buttered, and toasted, but the bottom bun is limp and ICY COLD? No joke, it tasted like they had just taken the bottom half of the bun out of the fridge. The combo of partially warm/partially cold sandwich was jarring and unpleasant. Especially when such a small oversight totally changed what would have been a perfect sandwich. Sigh. I'm not the first one to experience this, so I'm guessing it's a reflection on this particular location. While it's big and convenient to Barclays and the subway, I couldn't help but notice that this location is not maintained as well as the others. Messes on the condiment counter and trays of discarded food remained untended the entire time I was there. Not enough to stop me from coming back, but definitely something to be aware of. read more

This Shake Shack location has many things going for - it's footsteps from Atlantic Terminal (i.e. also a few blocks from my apartment), they have a big air conditioned indoor space and few tables on the sidewalk (looking directly at Barclays Center), and the lines generally move quickly. Of course, one of the biggest benefits of Brooklyn Shake Shacks is that they were the first to introduce the ChickenShack! If you like fried chicken sandwiches, definitely give theirs a spin. It's among the best non-Nashville-hot-chicken sandwiches I can remember. Very meaty, and the buttermilk sauce is wonderful. But for some reason the bun mine was on was cold. I am not going compare Shake Shack to In n Out because it's already been done...ten million times. I will compare this Shake Shack to the other two locations I have been to: the original Madison Square Park one that is still an actual shack and the Battery Park location that had the longest line I had ever waited in for a burger. This particular Shake Shack location is 100 times better than other two. I like this location because it's big, pretty clean and the air conditioner is blasting (in the summer). Like the other shake shacks, it gets pretty busy and the food takes awhile to make once you place your order but one HUGE difference is one of the employees came around asking if anyone needs water refills or ketchup. That was so unexpected but appreciated. The shakes are kind of amazing. They are super creamy and delicious and they don't taste super artificial. Unfortunately, my favorite one (the black and white) has 760 calories so it's best to share a shake with at least 3 other people. The burgers are okay--I would give them 3.5 stars. The meat in their burgers is smushed so thinly, you can't really taste it. It's almost like it's not even there. I wish the meat wasn't flattened so much but the silver lining is...at least you are saving some of those calories! I have tried a few of their variations but I try to limit or avoid shake sauce because I am not a big fan of mayonnaise based sauces on my burgers (more of a mustard girl). The bun is pretty good though. It's super soft and squishy, but doesn't taste grossly processed like a McDonalds bun. The fries aren't very good at all. They are crinkle cut fries, but they taste very mealy like something you would eat in the school cafeteria. They taste even worse the second they get a little cold. Strangely the cheese sauce they put on the cheese fries makes their terrible fries taste so much better. With that said, if you are debating between ordering fries or a shake with your burger, definitely go with the shake! I am sure that this location is a complete zoo before and after an event at the Barclays Center but I went on a Friday afternoon right before the lunch crowd came in and had a really pleasant and mellow experience. read more

I got the Shack Burger, which had lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and shack sauce. This burger was significantly better than the burgers from Burger King or McDonalds, and def worth the extra couple of dollars. I always get the cheese fries because the cheese to fries ratio is perf. I got the bacon cheese fries this time and while it was still good the bacon pieces were way too burnt. I've been to this shake shack a handful of times when in the area or at the Barclays. It's definitely one of the more packed locations, especially when there's an event across the street at the Barclays Center. I would recommend avoiding it all costs during that time because it's always packed, long lines, long wait times for food and very difficult to find seating. I couldn't even find a spot for 1 person the last time I stopped by. I prefer the location closer to Jay Street which is never as packed as this one and usually with quicker service.
