I have finally made it in after being suggested this place a zillion times. The customer service was exceptional. The gal at the counter was so friendly. She ran through how things work and I think it's super odd they only have one jam of the day and zero other options. It would be nice if they even sold some local brand jams in shop to have some other options. Personally, 'whiskey peach jam' did not tickle my fancy that day. The biscuits were just alright. I admit I am a tough critic on biscuits as I grew up in the south. However my favorite thing was the hashbrowns, they taste like McDonald's hashbrowns and I mean this in the best way possible! I don't foresee myself rushing back but I'm glad I finally tried it.

3rd visit this year. This morning we had frost on the cars outside my house and I had a desire for biscuits. I walked over to one of three locations in Denver. I got the bisciut of the day, Pepperjack with bacon, egg & cheese. The biscuit was square shaped. I added a large Pablo's drip coffee. Very nice biscuit. I waited awhile, then got a 2nd biscuit with Whiskey Peach jam. Nice flavor, but no alcohol. The regular biscuits are round. You still order at the counter. They accept cards & cash. Drinks are prepared quickly and only a short wait to get your biscuits. I noticed a large number of customers with children. No dogs waiting outside. When I arrived, about half of the seats were taken. There are 2 gender free restrooms.

You can really tell the biscuits are "homemade", able to see all the layers. Space was surrounded with plants and beautiful art. Had counter ordering and they were very welcoming and nice. Love how there is a different biscuit everyday!

Rise & Shine is a great option for a quick and delicious brunch. Service is impressively fast and their lattes are always made perfectly. There's plenty of comfortable seating, from couches to bars to normal chairs and tables. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the sandwiches are sort of bland. The ingredients are great, but the flavor/seasoning leave something to be desired, and we always dump a lot of hot sauce on the sandwiches because of this. However, we still really like Rise & Shine, and it's one of my go-to breakfasts in Denver.

I loved the space and the atmosphere which had cozy, casual coffee shop vibes with exposed brick and a lot natural light pouring in on the healthy looking house plants that lined the windows at the front. It looked like mostly regulars from the neighborhood based on the interactions I was seeing between customers and employees who were very laid back and friendly. If I lived in the neighborhood I would be here for coffee all the time. I think I would prefer to view this as a 5 star coffee shop that has affordable little biscuit sandwiches to snack on. As a restaurant I'm giving this 4 stars because the biscuit sandwiches aren't really anything special, but I think that's the point and that they're just supposed to be a quick and affordable breakfast. I got a BLT and a BEC and both were somewhere between average and good. I was glad that even after eating two biscuit sandwiches I didn't feel gross and slow lol, so that's a plus.

YUM. I'm usually not a biscuit person but these biscuits are deliciousssss. They melt in your mouth and aren't too thick. Rise & Shine also has good drink options and I like how you can customize your sandwich. The rotating biscuits of the day are fun and keep you coming back to try new flavors. They have tables both inside and outside. All the sandwiches are very reasonably priced as well. Will definitely return!

A business, now matter how good the product, isn't highly reviewed if the service isn't that good. Tucked away in a quaint Denver neighborhood, Rise and Shine Penn's Chapel Hill chicken biscuit sandwich is amazing.and fresh. As is the tiny gravy side but the wee portion isn't usually enough to slather a biscuit, especially when halved. Order two gravy if wanting biscuits and gravy and be mindful there are no plates. Gravy portion for the price... ...meh. Americano was superb. The employee who took the order and checked us out was curt and not pleasant in interacting with us but subsequent people was chatty and nice, as if the regulars were treated with better service. Also the employee was so engrossed in the conversation, ie networking with patrons, and scrolling on a phone that they didn't even call out our order name for pickup at the counter when it was ready. It was off putting. This wasn't the first time, as it was similar sorts of service during previous visits. Employee was scrolling between the lul in orders on a phone the whole time we were dining in. Every table had crumbs on them despite no line and all employees standing around chatting and laughing. I enjoy the food. The service leaves much to be desired and hopefully will improve. I just wish staff would be more aware of what is going on instead of engaging in socialization first and then work second. Try them out. You'll be glad you did and maybe become a regular and get better service.

Ordered biscuit with egg, cheese, and bacon plus added hash brown to go! Super cute inside, I wish I had time to stay and check it out! The staff was very nice when I picked up my order, and the online ordering system was very easy to use. The sandwich was SO good... only downside was that something, I think the hash brown, was very salty at the end which my taste buds weren't a fan of. Other than that, super good!

Great spot for breakfast! We came by on a Saturday around 10:00. There was a pretty long line, but it moved quickly -- we had out food around 20 minutes later. We had a Chapel Hill (+ egg + cheese), and bacon/egg/cheese/hashbrown on a biscuit. The sandwiches were on the small side, but super dense and filling. Both were tasty, albeit fairly salty and dry -- would have loved if these had some other kind of sauce/jam/aioli/smear to counteract the dryness! Prices aren't outrageous and street parking is easy enough to find. The interior has some fun art, with lots of references to NC!

Well, I have visited this restaurant 3 times. All 3 times have been for a holiday brunch or…read moredinner. Location (4 stars) This restaurant is downtown near the convention center. parking is pricy if you valet park at the hotel. Last year it was around $40. Parking in the lot across the street for $25 dollars Easter Sunday. If you use a walker, I would not recommend the parking lot across the street. Food (3 Stars) The Thanksgiving buffet is the best one. I would rate that buffet a (4). The Christmas and Easter buffet are pretty low key. There is a carving station (ham and prime rib). There is an omelet station. Dessert bar is decorative. Cheesecake was delicious. The warming station with potatoes, sausage etc. leaves much to be desired. The charcuterie station is sparse. They offer unlimited mimosas for an additional $25. Service (5 stars) Staff are extremely friendly. Cleanliness (2 stars) My only complaint, I saw a tabletop being cleaned off with a rag used to clean the chairs and then under the table on the floor and on to the next tabletop. I'm just a little picky about that. Especially since folks these days go commando and wear short attire, and you know their parts are on the chair and now spread to tabletops. Wiping up the crumbs off the floor with same rag simply through me over the edge. Atmosphere (4 stars) Spacious uncrowded environment. Nice decor. Bright with large windows.

During the last few Denver Restaurant Week events, I've tried to take the offerings as an…read moreopportunity to sample restaurants that I haven't tried, or otherwise may not try, and see if I can add to my list of favorites. I saw Former Saint on CBS News, and the menu and food looked incredible. In particular, that white chocolate blueberry cheesecake was something I know my hubby would look forward to all week! I loved the idea of local food and fresh homemade dishes. Sounds healthy, after a week of potential over-indulgence at other restaurant week venues. An additional bonus was that it is located right near the Denver Convention Center and the Performing Arts Center. This has become a dry spot for fine dining, with even the choices on Larimer Square growing more thin, giving rise to the inability to get reservations at favorites like Tamayo and Rioja prior to a show. I go to performances frequently with friends, and despite my rule to avoid hotel restaurants (Former Saint is in the Hyatt Regency), I thought I'd scope out Former Saint as a place to take my friends before the next symphony or Children's Chorale or ballet or broadway performance. I must say, the jury is still out. Former Saint was a Jekyll and Hyde of courses. Parking was not difficult (Yay, maybe I can park here prior to my shows, if I grab a bite first). There is a large garage, and the promise of validation from the restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant is typical hotel restaurant. Booths, tables, old and a bit drab. Except for the bar. Oh, my! The bar has this BEAUTIFUL copper creation above it, adding so much industrial character to the space! I was in awe looking at it, as it appeared to bring craft suds to the bartender's taps. I didn't ask how it worked, as it wasn't clear how the beer separation and dispensing worked, but it was a great centerpiece and spectacle for the place. I do wish I had investigated more about this architectural marvel, and will do so if I return. For restaurant week, my husband chose the Lobster Ravioli, Ribeye, and blueberry cheesecake (as predicted). I chose the Gotham salad, roasted chicken, and key lime tart. The lobster ravioli was nice; my husband was surprised that it was a toasted ravioli, but enjoyed it. My salad was full of beautiful greens, pears, walnuts, and feta. No scrimping here! The dressing was light and sweet/sour. The pears were a bit unripe and crisp, to the point that I was having trouble identifying exactly what fruit I was eating, but other than that, the salad was beautiful, healthy, and ample. My husband's ribeye steak was a nice cut, done to his liking. Slivered hash browns were underneath with a nice green chimichurri on top and some sliced Fresnos adding a welcome kick to the dish. My chicken was delightful. 1/2 chicken on the bone, seasoned nicely, and with a pan sauce. The breast was super-tender and delicious. It came atop cheesy grits, which was a yummy substitute for a mashed potato. I also was served side salad of curly lettuce and fennel. I probably didn't need more salad, but I was glad to have the healthy side on my plate. I will say that this salad was over-seasoned. The chicken and grits were great, but the salad too salty. My husband ordered a glass of J. Lohr Cabernet, which was a very nice find on the wine list, as far as a pairing for his ribeye. That said, the glass cost $30! A bit much, I might say. The real detractor, unfortunately, was dessert. The blueberry cheesecake looked nothing like the beautiful creamy white cheesecake accented throughout by purple blueberries, which I saw on the CBS News clip. My husband was served a very small solid purple slice, overcome with whipped cream dollops. This cheesecake had been uncovered in the fridge too long, with sort of a skin on it. My husband ate almost none of it. My key lime tart was similarly over-adorned with whipped cream, although I had some nice raspberries on top. The tart also seemed overexposed to the cool air, with the thickening of a skin on top. It was a very disappointing way to end a nice meal, and belied the healthy, homemade, craft theme. High points of this experience include the well-crafted and healthy entrees, the fact that we could see the convention center right outside our window (i.e., the location is perfect for pre-event or -theater), the $3.00 validated parking fee, and that beautiful copper tap system. Will the pros outweigh the cons? Will we be back with friends? Time will tell.
