We had a blueberry - lemon - cherry jam that was phenomenal, definitely one of the best jams I've ever had. We got a hash brown to try out some of the hot sauces and it's the perfect vehicle for that. I thought the tuna melt was quite good, surprisingly strong tuna and crispy bread. I wish I could rate this place more highly but for a dine in breakfast spot, it was disappointed in the service. Came on a Thursday morning. This is a breakfast place and yet, for coffee, whole milk is the only dairy option offered. For me, if your business is breakfast, I assume coffee is your #1 served drink, to not have options for lattes is an easy miss. Providing skim milk allows you to make your own 2%! It also seems they had one non dairy option which, again, it's a breakfast cafe. I cannot make sense of it. Service was slow and spotty, which was particularly disappointing given the 20% included service fee. This fee notice is posted everywhere which I appreciated but if this is the case, you must must provide top notch service. Waited quite a while once we were finished for our check which is just unacceptable. That said I did love my breakfast bowl full of veggies - one of their summer specials. And I liked the hot sauce wall! Plus I love dogs and really dug the weenie decor. Despite the good food product, this is a restaurant where their policies and lack of options made me feel unwelcome. Ended up going on a Friday around 11 AM instead. It was still packed, but we were only 4th on the waitlist and got in very quickly! Sooo definitely keep that in mind if you're planning a weekend visit. The crispy hash browns tasted like they'd already been sitting out for a while, so they weren't as crunchy/flaky as I typically like them. The animal sauce was good though! The huevos rancheros rendition was alright ... definitely spicy, but it only came with all of like 8 chips total, which was disappointing lol. There was also a tortilla in the middle, which I wasn't expecting / was soggy. The pork was drowned in so much green chili that you couldn't really taste the pork itself. Overall, it was just an okay meal. Surprisingly, my favorite part was actually the quality of the coffee they used for the Americano! Service was solid. Ambiance is real cute! It's been 14 months (June 2025) since my last visit. I noticed most menu prices were the same and a few items are cheaper. My server, Alicia P was great. I sat the patio under a big tent. More back cushions than before. I started with a hot whole milk unsweetened Matcha Latte. Well blended. Next was a hot Chai Latte, both for $8. My food was a Yogurt Parfait and Ye Ole' Standard. The Parfait had plenty of vanilla Greek yogurt with strawberry, blueberries and granola. The Ye Ole' Standard was two eggs, griddled new potatoes and a large sourdough bread slice with jam. This place was packed out! Had my mom in town and we stopped by after a hot yoga class nearby to put our name in then go home and shower and come back and eat. Good thing too, it was an hour and 15 min wait! We ended up getting the text and then missing the 10 minute window as we were driving back (it didn't say there was a 10 minute window in the text....) so we had to wait about another 10 minutes and then finally got a table. Everything on the menu looks delicious from the titles and the ingredients. We started with the muffin of the day, which was cranberry lemonade. There's a mild spice to it that I'm fond of, leaving a lingering numbness on my tongue that enticed me to eat more. What can I say? It was thoroughly good. There's also a crunch from the carrots, and for someone who's very texture-heavy when it comes to food, this place nailed that particular sensory experience. The sprouts were another personal favorite--so fresh and unique in their flavor. Perfect for vegetable fans! Bready Goodness + Blueberry Cherry Lemon Jam - 14-year-old sourdough. Say less. Might I say, this sourdough is impeccable with whatever butter they used. And the jam? Clearly not run-of-the-mill. It's very floral, like experiencing a flower field in your mouth, with a lovely lemony scent. This was my personal best experience here. Okay, this jam is literally SO good that we got a little ramekin of it to go. I'm now inspired to pick up jam-making as a hobby because it's incredible that you can create a flavor like this. The small wins in life. Taters Hash Brown - We chose the crispy hash browns to pair with the three sauces we picked. They tasted like hash brown heaven. Once again: texture, texture, texture. Super crunchy and perfectly flavorful. --Horsetooth Hot Sauce (The Green) - Habanero, tomatillo, and serrano. This was my second favorite of the three. The balance between the tang and spice worked much better for me here than in Homegrown Hell. My BF said it had a kick, but I didn't notice. Maybe because my mouth was already on fire. --Sauce Leopard (The 13th Floor) - Apricot and toasted coconut. Very nice and light. I didn't really taste the coconut, but you could tell it had a fruity base. This was my favorite of the three. --Sauce Leopard (Homegrown Hell) - Sichuan tangerine. Much tangier than The 13th Floor, which explains the tangerine, but it wasn't nearly as refreshing. Not a crazy fan of this one. Overall, the textures were easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. Between the cured meats in the omelet, carrots and sprouts in the tuna melt, perfectly toasted sourdough, and ridiculously crunchy hash browns, they really nailed that sensory experience. We were hungry and tried a bunch. The drip coffee & lattes were delicious (oat milk is available) and come in cute animal cups. We started with 2 of the sausage rolls which are akin to pigs in a blanket but much higher quality sausage in puff pastry served with syrup. Very good but nothing extraordinary. The small bite star is the spicy egg salad on crispy potato. These are divine with just enough spice to balance the creamy egg salad and insanely crunchy and delicious fried potato (like crispy rice but potato) We also shared a muffin of the day which rotates flavors. It was spectacular. The mortadella Sammy was fried and filling with a berry jam, cheese and egg. I had the egg over medium and it was messy in the best way. We were very lucky and snagged two seats at the bar which are open seating - there are only 6! The brunch gods were smiling down at us. The menu has some unique and tasty options. We came at 8:30am on a Saturday and the place was packed! Even with a reservation, we ended up sitting at the community table with a larger party. They were friendly so it was great. The host did give us the option of waiting a little longer. They have a heated patio to extend the space a bit, but it was so cold it wasn't open today. The food was stellar. So impressed with everything- the chef really knows how to play with texture. We did the foxy burrito, which was perfectly spicy and had fried potatoes in it for a little crunch. We tried some of the hot sauces but it really didn't need it. The hot sauce wall with local hot sauces was a great touch though. We also had the pb&j French toast- it tasted more like a pb&j sandwich than French toast, which was good but not quite what I was expecting. I think next time I will try the pumpkin-less spice French toast, the huevos rancheros or the tacos. Other people at the table had them and I want to try them- not because our food was bad (it was excellent) but because there are so many good items on the menu that I want to come back and try them all. I was uber impressed with our coffee as well. We got the "not my gumdrop buttons" latte, which was a gingerbread latte with a little gingerbread cookie. First off, I'm a sucker for a good Shrek reference. Plus the latte was perfection- not too sweet, all the flavors were distinct. We joined the waitlist at 10:00am before leaving the house and weren't seated until 1:30pm. It's worth noting, there's no estimated wait time. You are instead given a place in line and it ticks down. Other places must turn tables faster or have more seating. Had we known it would be 3 hours, we would have gone elsewhere. On the plus side, you can watch your place in line on the OpenTable app. It lets you walk around so we made the most of it. Walked the neighborhood, grabbed drinks at another bar, and even checked out an open house before coming back. Overall it was a fun morning for our group but we were tired and so hungry by the time we got seated. The food and service were good, but fairly average overall. We're big fans of Top Chef, and my wife instantly recognized owner and chef Carrie Baird -- one of our favorite chefs from the show. To our delight, Carrie was in the restaurant that day! She came out to personally say hello and was incredibly warm, humble, and welcoming. My wife was starstruck -- it made our experience truly unforgettable. The atmosphere was alive with people enjoying great food and conversation. Our server, Natalie, was phenomenal. She knew the menu inside and out, gave excellent recommendations, and adjusted easily for personal preferences. She radiated authentic energy -- bright, kind, and attentive without ever seeming forced. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does, and it made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. Now, let's talk about the food -- because wow: * French Toast -- Stuffed with cream cheese and absolutely to die for. * Salmon Omelet -- A must-try dish! * Tacos con Huevos -- My wife loved these flavorful tacos. * Beat Bobby Flay-vos -- Absolute fire, don't miss it. * Vitality Shot -- The perfect little pick-me-up. While American breakfast is one of our favorite meals, we love exploring all types of cuisine -- and this place delivered on every level. The flavors, presentation, and quality of ingredients were outstanding. Pro tip: The restaurant is very popular (for good reason), so expect a wait -- but it moves quickly. We were #22 on the list and were seated in about 25 minutes. The surrounding neighborhood is charming, so the wait is pleasant and well worth it. In short: The Fox and The Hen is a Denver must-visit for any foodie. I will absolutely return here on my next trip.
