Omg!!!! Everything in this place was amazing!! We all three had the La Gratinada which is pure heaven. It's Fajita steak or chicken breast lightly marinated, cooked to perfection, topped with Monterrey Jack cheese, sautéed mushrooms, broccoli, poblano, green and yellow squash. Served with whole beans covered with cheese, rice and guacamole. We all had the steak and retried beans instead of rice. Soooooooo good. Wanted to try this place after the rave reviews but soon noticed many longtime customers no longer return due to a host of issues. Poor service, food not up to quality, or the drinks not being mixed well. Started off with the patron margarita and could soon tell it wasn't mixed well and then once we ordered the entrees we couldn't finish what we had ordered and maybe those updated reviews were true. hopefully they will soon return to the standards of how the longtime customers were used too. read more

Definitely mixed experience here comparing to other reviews. They definitely have a following, but we were not fans. Service was minimal, we did not feel welcomed. We ordered a small queso, which was ok, but definitely nothing to rave about. I appreciate the jalapeños though. At least the salsa was good. Food was actually ok, but not too great. I had the tampiquena (sp?) and while food came out quickly, it was easily forgettable. The quesadillas were good, however. The mediocre service just made it not pleasant. Waste of money. Food was terrible. Ordered fish tacos that were the worst I've ever had. Absolutely nothing more than greasy corn tortillas and tasteless pan fried pieces of fish. Nothing more. I could have done better half asleep with a can of tuna fish. Salsa was clearly watered down canned gunk. Tossed it and pulled my own from the fridge. Just a heap of rice and beans in each take out container. No veggies or anything. Since when has Tony's changed to Ray's? We went there Friday and the new sign was up so we decided to try anyway. We've been on a search for good chimichangas after Jimmy Changas changed. I really wanted to like Ray's, but unfortunately the food wasn't to our taste. The nachos, although having thick chips the way we love, had a strange flavor I couldn't place, until my son mentioned it tasted like Corned beef hash, and yep, that was it. Not sure if that's what they used, but that flavor is there. Son and husband ordered the chimis, which are usually our go to at anyplace that serves them. The beef wasn't charred and overall just bland. I had the stuffed avocado, which I should have read the menu more carefully. She asked if I wanted one or two, and I said one because they were large. However, I'm not used to them being served without any sides. This was served on some torn up lettuce which I found a bit weird. Usually there's some rice or beans or something on the side. My fault for not reading up, but again, beef wasn't really charred and seasoned, the whole thing overall was rather bland. The staff was very friendly and nice but the food just wasn't something we enjoyed. Maybe what we had wasn't some things they are known for? Anyway, the search continues. read more

When this place was "Tony's" it was great, but now that it's "Ray's" the service seems to have gone down. (I was told it is the same owner/management, but the name had to be changed due to legal reasons or family drama associated with the restaurant chain). So I gave it a chance. Ordered drinks, which came out rite away. Was asked for our order, but we weren't ready. The waitress asked, "need about 10 more minutes?" / And I told her, "just maybe 3 or 4 more minutes". Well 25 minutes passes by and she still never came back to the table to take our order. 2 different men walked by and asked if we wanted more margaritas. And we told them, "No but we are ready to order" and they just walked away. Our waitress totally disappeared, we seen her no where in the restaurant. Finally we became so frustrated we asked the manager if we could just pay for our drinks. 35 minutes into it the waitress shows back up with our bill. Great food, authentic and cheap! Salsa had a good kickin' flavor and sweet tea was bomb! Location was a bit off the hwy but not hard to get to. You can tell this is a popular spot because it stays busy but staff was friendly. Prices were great, I would definitely come back here again. This place is one of the top recommendations from the Katy Foodies Facebook group for best Tex Mex in the area. However, I found the food to be underwhelming. Everything my wife and I ate needed seasoning. The Tacos Al Carbon, Chile Con Queso, and fajita chicken nachos. It was all just kind of missing spices and flavor. Additionally, their bar is very limited. You can get a margarita, rum and coke, or a beer but that's pretty much the limits for them. I usually like a mojito with my good but they could not make it. On the bright side the restaurant was clean and the wait staff was very attentive and they worked in tandem to ensure no table went without service.I would give 5 stars for the service, but unfortunately the food just wasn't what I wanted it to be. Last thing I would mention is that the salsa is served warm (which I do not like) and is very spicy. I would say that a change in salsa is a necessary change that would have made the food more enjoyable, for me. read more

The margaritas tasted strong but had an unpleasant cheap booze aftertaste. Mabe everclear? The fajita meat was very fatty and tough with little flavor. No tender lime flavor like other restaurants in the area. Fajitas did not even come with cheese or sour cream. Biggest joke of all is that the flour tortillas tasted like warm store bought Mission brand and were not homemade. Chips, salsa, and rest of the food was very average. You never know what kind of day someone is having. Yesterday my husband and I had the most horrible customer service experience ever at a car shop, it was so bad it had completely ruined our whole day and we were both feeling very low but we still wanted to stay positive and enjoy the rest of our evening, what we have to be thankful for, and each other so we decided to come here to Rays. We live very close and it is SO HARD not to go eat their good everyday because I can smell how delicious it is when you walk outside!! Which is why I wanted to go!! We were greeted with smiling faces and the most pleasant service!! Every single person who spoke to us just made my evening better and better! The food and absolutely WONDERFUL I loved it so much, it was so hot and fresh! Rays is known for their house margaritas, I'm pregnant so I unfortunately didn't get to have one myself, but let me tell you what, my husband doesn't drink very often, BUT HE LOVED THOSE HOUSE MARGARITAS!!
