    Char kway teow
    Stephanie L.

We had a great experience from start to finish. The food was delicious, so many options, and they had a great lunch menu for Monday-Fridays. Last but not least, our waitress was so sweet and nice! We ordered the following: Roti Canai - The roti is soooo good! Thin and flakey, but still pillowy and soft. Served with a curry like sauce but light on the curry flavor, just very savory. The sauce wasn't curry like though.. it was kinda gloopy. Didn't love the gelatinous texture of the sauce, but the roti itself, fire. Char Kway Teow (lunch portion) - Lunch portion is perfect for one if this is all you're eating. Perfect for 2-3 if you have other dishes to share. It's basically a dry chow fun, except they add in sweet Chinese sausage. They had like 3 shrimps in this lunch dish too, so not stingy at all with the protein. I liked the smokiness but I do wish they had sriracha or a spice rack as I like my foods a little spicy. I didn't ask for it though, so it's possible they do have spicy condiments. Sizzling Beef (lunch portion) - Portion size same as above. This is a very savory dish, border line a little salty for me. The presentation is real cute. They bring out a hot cast iron plate, with red onions on it, and then they spoon the beef entree from a metal container onto the cast iron so that it starts to sizzle. A little extra for sure, but it adds to the ambiance so I appreciate that effort. The bell peppers and onions were so sweet and helped to balance the sauce. The beef was nice and tender! Beef Rendang - This dish is the main reason why I chose to visit. This is only on the main dinner menu and yes it's a bit pricey, but it's a large portion and the dish is cooked well. It's basically a dry curry stew, as the curry notes are fairly strong. This is typically cooked with coconut milk but the coconut notes were very mild. While I did call it a stew, its not saucy. The beef was nice and tender but a little dry on some piece, and the potatoes in the dish held their shape nicely. They left some fat on the beef (I get it, fat is flavor) but I personally don't like that squishy texture in my meat. This is a dish worth ordering, especially if you've never had it, as it's flavor profile is quite unique. Idk if a pot of rice comes automatically or if it's because we ordered the beef rendang which is a dinner dish or what. But everyone had a pot of rice on the table from the looks of it, so it may be safe to say it comes with all entrees. They give you a real hefty serving of rice too, which is appreciated cause my BF eats hella rice lol When we packed our food to go, the server asked if wanted to pack the rice and I let her know we actually finished it. She was kind enough to give me a whole to go box of rice as well. Sooooo sweet! I made sure we ate all our leftovers too! I'm from the Bay (California) and tbh Malaysian/Indonesian food is kinda hard to find and the places that do serve it are super far from me. I was so stoked to find such a nice restaurant that not only served some of my favorites but served them WELL. Would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area and wanting something different from your usual Asian eats.

Phat Eatery in Katy has become my go‑to spot, especially since it's so close to work. The food is consistently amazing, and the Hainanese chicken is my absolute favorite: perfectly tender, deboned, and served with three great sauces. They're especially generous with the ginger, which I love. The roti canai is always soft and comforting, perfect for dipping. Reliable, delicious, and super convenient, I can't ask for more!

I wanted to treat myself to a great weekend meal and stopped by Phat Eatery, which did not disappoint! It admittedly started off a bit oddly. I entered around 3pm on a Sunday and the hostess was reluctant to give me a table and insisted on the bar, despite my visibly seeing at least 3 tables open just from where I was standing. I'm understanding of smaller venues with limited tables, I mean I lived in NYC, but when you have a paying customer in front of you, there are open tables and a request for one, and it's not a peak time, I mean come on where's the hospitality! After they called the manager, I did get a table (the one in front of me never filled up either, not exactly a busy time). Luckily, the food did make up for it. My server was friendly too and made good recommendations, although sadly the Beef Rendang wasn't nearly ready to serve. I suppose I'd have to come back for dinner sometime. I got a Lychee Sunrise to start, which was fantastic. It was too early for me to start drinking alcohol, so this worked fine. The Roti Canai with chicken curry for dipping was tasty, with the former being super flaky and delicious. The chicken in the curry was boneless, but they could've done a better job removing the skin and tendons. The curry was on the sweeter side, which worked well as a dipping sauce. The Har Gau (soft shrimp dumplings) were made fresh and delicate. It came with mustard for dipping, which was new to me, but worked very well. Now I was getting a bit overwhelmed, as like in many Asian restaurants, food tends to come out as they're made rather than timed as courses, oop. My Sizzling Tofu entree came with a generous portion of rice, with an amazing garlicy brown sauce (has minced chicken & shrimp, but they do have a vegetarian version) poured table side for that sizzling action. It was so flavorful, lots of depth and very filling. I got mine a bit spicy, which has 5 levels of spice of your choosing. Like a lot of the trendier restaurants and shops here, they do use one of those digital payment systems like Toast which some super high suggested default tips. I thought it was a bit funny as you refill your own water with the bottle they give you, but my server was friendly and gave me a show, so a generous tip was well earned.

Service was great. The roti canai, beef, sizzling tofu, and the stir fried rice noodle were yummy and came out with timeliness. Love their attention to detail and easy seating for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was clean and friendly.

This time, we ordered off their usual menu with some out of town friends. We ordered sizzing tofu, roti with two curries (beef was off menu), Hokkien noodles, beef rendang. I ordered a pandan colada for myself. I would get this drink again. It's amazing. Back to the food. This was all good for four people near closing time. Everything amazing. I would order this set again. The beef rendang does have a slight kick to it. No shrimps in this menu set because one of us has a shrimp allergy which they great accommodated for us. Tofu is a favorite! Roti was super stuff and tasty. Our server was very sweet and was actually the one who told us about the beef curry that was off menu to try with the roti. The place was clean and easy on the eyes. Parking is free and out front.

Award winning restaurant for a good reasons. Service and atmosphere: Outstanding service from get go. Our server was polite, friendly and very knowledgeable about food on a menu. She helped us decide on our dishes selection by recommendations. The restaurant was clean, structured, very modern and comfortable. Open bar area in the middle is very nice. Food and drinks: Delicious and well thought through dishes. Traditional selections with fragrant ingredients and seasonings. All of that gave the food authenticity test. The portions were generous. Big selection of various beverages to choose from. Pricing: $$ - super worth it and we will be coming back to dine in here again.

My hubby enjoyed the Malaysian food he's been missing so much. Too bad there isn't a place like this in Austin.

We tried several dishes here and overall had a great experience. The roti canai was good, though I wish the dipping sauce had a bit more flavor. The Hainan chicken was solid with all the right dressings, and the mixed satay and char kway teow were both delicious. The setup is nice--clean, comfortable, and welcoming without feeling crowded. Service was wonderful, too. They even packed our leftovers neatly into a bag without us having to ask. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you're craving Malaysian flavors.

Everything was authentic and tasty! The chicken satay is a sleeper (matches with the sauce better than the beef satay). The char kway teow was nice and smoky but I wish the noodles had a touch more salt to bring out the flavors. The Hainanese chicken was my favorite - I could eat it all day! Especially with the 3 dipping sauces and flavored rice.

Nasi lemak is my to go order. The sambal sauce is to die for. Laksa lacks flavor. I won't order it again next time. Roti canal was amazing. Fresh and hot. And the curry dipping sauce was so flavorful

I've been wanting to try this place for some time and finally got to when we were close to the Katy area. The place is decent size, clean and has very good service. We asked our server for some recommendations and she suggested we try the sizzling tofu and the beef rendang. The tofu was excellent and came with a fried egg on the bottom of the skillet. The beef rendang was good but the beef had a lot of fat on it and so I didn't enjoy it as much. But I would come back here to try some other dishes. Sadly, they don't offer any desserts but there are a bunch of dessert spots in the strip center.

Food is still very good here. I ordered their roti canai for apps and their stir fry noodle called char kway teow as the main dish. Both are very delicious. The chat kway teow has the work hay flavor. Yum. I love the addition of the Chinese sausage in this dish. I got their lemon tea and it's very refreshing. Service is quick and good amount of seating available indoors.

We came here since a lot of the other restaurants in the area had a wait. Thankfully this one didn't and the food and service didn't disappoint. The interior is very cute and vibey. I loved every dish except the shrimp surprisingly. I would come again!

    Bryan S.

The roti is a must order, the texture is so fluffy but not heavy and their dipping sauce that goes with it is so tasty and a little spicy. The billionaire fried rice was pretty good and a decent portion size, but didn't have any actual beef in it besides beef tallow. The wide rice noodle dishes were surprisingly delicious with a nice variety of seafood mixed in, but could have had more noodles included. I'd go back here if I was in the mood for noodles.

As I dug deeper, I read Jando's glowing review word-for-word and found myself salivating. Well, I ventured out to S. Mason for lunch, found the place easily, appreciated the ample and free parking, and walked in. I had read before that they used to be closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but now they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but open for dinner on Saturdays. (See my photos.) Anyhow, we walked in and found the place homey. Nothing fancy - just a nice, clean, homey Malaysian restaurant. Not too big, and not too small. We placed our order of roti canai, stir fried flat rice noodles, seafood sizzling tofu, and topped it off with a Malaysian milk tea. Oh my - we were satisfied and stuffed as a party of 2. We ended up boxing up almost 40% of the meal. The roti was near perfection - crispy, hot, flaky. The dipping sauce was perfectly seasoned with the right amount of heat. It included chunks of chicken and potato. You must absolutely order this one. I love me some stir fried flat rice noodles so we got that one with chicken. Overall, it was excellent. Portions were a tad smaller than I would like for the price. Also it could use a little bit of hot sauce so we asked for a side of sriracha which they gladly and quickly brought. The sizzling tofu - OMG so good. I can't even explain it. I just love it so much and the portions are huge. I'm not sure what the vegetable flavor would taste like but we tried the seafood one and have no regrets. Lastly the milk tea was just because we felt like splurging and it was also a great decision. The tea flavor itself is deep and the overall drink is very nice. We got it iced. And an honorable mention - we ran into Uncle Chin (at least we assume it was Uncle Chin) and told him his food was amazing. I think he really appreciated it. He seems like a super nice guy and I want his business to do really well. If that wasn't Uncle Chin then we talked to a random person and raved about the food... The chicken rice was cooked perfectly, so moist and flavorful. The chicken, rice, some scallion ginger, a bit of sriracha: the perfect bite! We also had the mixed skewers (beef and chicken). Almost each time I've dined here I was the only customer or among the only people dining at all. The roti canai is among the better versions I've had since being in Texas. The bread is perfectly flakey and is a lethal combo with their nicely spiced chicken curry. Equally impressive was the laksa, which featured a heavy dose of coconut milk and a broth that could cure any winter blues. Their generic chicken curry was everything but as it packed heat, flavor, and plenty of soft potatoes to go with the texture bomb of the white rice. It looked tasty and with all the right ingredients but the taste?! sugar!!! It was so sweet and most likely had canned pineapple and honestly it tasted like they poured the syrup inside . Our 3rd dish was the eggplant with garlic sauce. The minute the waiter put the fish down, we looked at each other because it was an oil slick. The flavor was on point except all the oil. The fourth dish was flat noodles with "beef and broccoli". I put quotations because that's what I ordered but we got no broccoli but instead got combo: beef, chicken and shrimp. We didn't complain, we just kept it. This dish was lacking flavor. The chicken was bone dry and the shrimp had that "frozen shrimp smell". The beef was the only thing edible on that dish, but barely. One of our kids wanted hot and sour soup which came in one size. Again when this came out, a thick layer of oil sat on the top.... I've never seen this before at any restaurant, even Chinese buffets. I scooped out as much of the oil off the top to let her eat it. Disappointment, yet again. There was no hot or sour taste. It tasted like oily chicken broth with extra stuff in it. On top of that, they had the same dry chicken that they used in the flat noodles. It was just one big disappointment after another. I couldn't believe it. I love Tan Tan in Bellaire but will never come to this location again. Not sure why all these Asiatown restaurants have the flavors off. Perhaps they are trying to appeal to the majority non Asian customers by using different ingredients? Or maybe they think people won't notice? I don't know but I hope the manager will do kitchen /good taste checks asap and get it back on track and back to tradition.

They were pretty good. My colleagues ordered other dishes and liked what they ordered. Our waiter was patient and answered our many questions. I will definitely come back to try their other dishes.

In spite of arriving and being seated shortly after opening, we waited for over an hour for our food, and this seemed the case for other diners as well. This is in accord with other reviewers' experiences. That's a long time to wait. Ambiance was typical of strip-mall hole in the wall. Restrooms were amazingly clean. On the other hand, the service was friendly and the food was excellent. We ordered the soto ayam (chicken noodle soup) and ayan penyei (smash chicken). The soup was quite flavorful and loaded with veggies, a nice texture and easily a meal - not your typical chicken and noodles soup. The smash chicken dish appeared to be a roasted free-range chicken, fall-off-the-bone tender and with crispy skin and a great flavor, which paired well with the accompanying rice. We were both quite impressed with the food. Overall, great food, but a horribly long wait for it. We'd like to return, but have to plan for the wait or maybe order to go. I'm giving it 4 stars for the excellent food, but should probably knock that down to maybe 3 for the wait.

I got one with the steamed chicken and another with the crispy chicken, both with dark meat. They come with ginger rice, some cucumbers, and their special sauces. The "ginger rice" was just normal rice with ginger in it, not like the chicken rice you would find at other places. The chicken was fine and I really liked the spicy sauce it came with. The rice plays a huge part of this dish though and I thought they were lacking in that aspect

One of them had a serious food safety issue, and I received a refund for that item. I also called the restaurant to address the issue directly. The person who answered the phone suggested that the delivery driver might have put a bottle cap inside the rice box. I asked, "What would be the driver's intention in doing that? What would they gain from it?" She responded by saying that her kitchen staff would never do such a thing and offered a refund. She then continued to complain about having many problems with delivery drivers. I explained that, as a customer, I expect the restaurant to take food safety concerns seriously. If she suspects tampering by drivers, she should look into improving the packaging instead of deflecting blame. She wasn't open to hearing my concerns and ignored my question about why a delivery driver would tamper with the food. I also pointed out that the paper bag was stapled three times at the top and didn't appear to have been opened and resealed, making her theory unlikely. She was unapologetic and ended the call on me. Good luck running a restaurant with that attitude.
