    Dirty rice Lunch Crawfish Etouffee

" MY NEW FAMILY" This is surely a hidden gem. I have been in this neighborhood for over 9 years and only visited here twice before I started regularly eating at this location. It is literally like a family. I watched people come in and out of door and the bar area surely has it patrons that visit often and the bartenders know their names. My experiences have been great with the employees I have encountered except for one occasion but the good outweigh the bad. I have sat in the dining room before but I have recently started sitting at the bar and the staff are absolutely amazing. My angels are "JESSICA P, ANALYSSA AND NICK". All of them have made me feel like family from day one and treat me with so much respect. Before I can even get out of my mouth what I need, they are already anticipating my needs. My regular meals are Happy Hour Fish with onion strings and spinach dip. My lunch menu meal is the chicken breast with salad and sweet potato only butter. My food is always hot and tasty. The Grilled chicken has this undeniable flavor. It is immaculate. Grilled to perfection. I am always meeting someone at the bar, conversing and eating dinner together while enjoying the company. This restaurant helps me to unwind after a long day at work.

I've been coming to this Babin's one to three times a year for over 10 years. It's always been consistent in service and food quality. This trip I started with the filé gumbo, Caesar salad and my entree was broiled red snapper with creole green beans on the Monday fish special for 19.99. My wife had the soup and sandwich with crawfish bisque and shrimp po boy. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful.

Oh where do I begin, walked in this past Sunday March 22 and decided to sit at the bar which was full with 1 bartender Jessica and she was moving pretty slow. When we sat at the last 2 seats that were open I didn't mind that the previous customers dirty dishes and trash was there cause they probably just left, but it shouldn't take 10 minutes to acknowledge we were there and to remove the trash. The guy next to me ordered an old fashioned and when he finally got it he sent it back because he wanted the big ice cube then he decided to leave since it was taking too long. A customer ordered a manhattan and the bartender Jessica poured that unwanted old fashioned into a martini glass, added some ingredients and gave it to the guy. He tasted it and asked was this a manhattan? She then said yes, do you want me to put it in a shorter glass. Are you serious Jessica? That guy probably knows what it taste like and when she made him a second one you can see the color difference and he even said the first one did not taste like it. What if he was allergic to something in that old drink she poured in. And if there's cameras in the bar area they'd see it. Food was bland drinks were too sweet and that hurricane mix needs to go. Should make hurricane drinks the old fashioned way.

Lovely staff - so sweet! Food was a bit heavy and a bit overpriced. Got the fondue which came out a bit cold, so the cheese was not doing it. The pontchartrain was $36 for fish and rice, certainly tasty but a bit overpriced. Maybe I need to try different items! Cheers!

We were super excited coming here, especially when we first walked in. Instantly reminded me of Pappas seafood house with its decor, dark moody lighting, furniture and layout. It was a nostalgic feeling. Service was excellent and very quick and attentive with our water levels. Unfortunately the food is where Babin lacks. The complimentary bread that came out wasn't hot and not even warm. The passion fruit mojito was on the sweeter side, but I still enjoyed it enough to finish it. Crawfish stuffed mushrooms- 4/5, very cheesy and creamy. The right amount of crawfish and the mushrooms were decent sized. Fried catfish- 5/5 for the catfish itself. Breading was perfect flakiness and adhered to the fish well. The fries, like the bread, were less than warm and not crispy at all- disappointing. Onion rings were fair. Cocktail sauce had the right amount of horseradish for that expected kick. Snapper pontchartrain- 2/5. Snapper was overcooked and not flaky at all. Tried cutting the fish with a fork and large parts of the fish were pulled off strung together. The fish was topped off and loaded with crawfish and mushrooms but it seemed like it was attempting to cover the lack of flavor in the sauce. Suppose to be brown butter sauce but it was so light and had no seasoning, neither did the fish. Very disappointing dish. I took it home in order to give it more seasoning before finishing it. Ultimately we came for the fried catfish which we loved. But everything else didn't meet the hype.

Broiled Golden tile with Creole Green Beans and Baked Potato

I don't tend to frequent chain restaurants but my mom wanted to go to Babin's for her birthday! I ordered the fish your way - broiled (which is actually done on the flat top) with the creole green beans and a baked potato. Our server Stacy was The best part of the meal! When she first brought our drinks to the table, I asked her for a straw and poof! like magic, she already had two wrapped up in a napkin to hand us without touching/contaminating them by putting them in the drinks for us. I appreciated her consideration and preparedness. Stacy also informed me that the pan seared option involves a light dusting with flour to "crisp" the fish. I'm thankful she was looking out for me and my gluten-free diet! The creole green beans were tender and delicious! Stacy had a lot of humor, refused to let my mom pay, though my mom did try to insist multiple times, and packaged our food for us because she viewed it as a more "professional" and higher end experience for the customer and ensured to segregate to prevent any gluten contamination. She shared with us some personal thoughts and stories and really made an effort to connect with us, which I deeply appreciated.

Our server was Leah and I can't say enough great things about her! If you go, make sure you sit in her section. She is awesome! Also, order the blackberry margarita. Your taste buds will thank you!

I haven't been to Babin's in forever! Came here with my parents for Houston's Restaurant Weeks. They throughly enjoyed themselves! Unfortunately I only got the one picture of shrimp gumbo and it was pretty good, very filling. I called to make sure nothing had changed and that we didn't need to make reservations. The hostess informed me that we only needed to make reservations for large groups and of course private events. We went around 6pm on Saturday. They were very busy, but since the restaurant is pretty large, there's plenty of seating and we didn't have to wait to be seated. Our waiter was very nice, patient and accommodating. The fried oysters were good (we had as appetizers outside the restaurant week menu), just fried a little hard. I don't eat much fried food, dad mostly wanted them. They were okay, I prefer char grilled. From the HOU Res Week Menu we had: Caesar Salad - can't go too wrong with a salad Gumbo - Good and filling Stuffed Flounder with Cajun Rice - so good!! Fried Shrimp with fries and fried onions - fried hard but still good Beignets - definitely recommend Strawberry Cheesecake - Delicious! Very busy place, but we enjoyed our dinner!

Caesar side salad with happy hour peel and eat shrimp. The alternative when you don't want a larger salad.

Love the food, service, and staff at Babins. They consistently produce the best quality items. I especially love the great variety of choices from their Happy Hour Menu.

We come to Babin's every time my dad or mom has a gift card lol! Always satisfied with their quality of food and their portion sizes. We started with one of their special Mardi Gras apps, the fried crawfish queso. I was expecting something on the smaller side, but it was huge! Queso had the perfect texture, not too runny and not too thick. Also the queso wasn't too salty- the cheese had a mild taste, which was good since the saltiness came from the fried crawfish. I will say it was almost impossible to scoop up the queso and crawfish on the thin chip without breaking it haha, so it was easier to just spoon it on top. We dipped the bread into the queso, and that was the move. Their bourbon street pasta is my go-to. Love how they generously load it with their crawfish, sausage, and shrimp especially. It is a very flavorful and heavy dish but soo delicious. As for the babin's mixed grill, I really enjoyed the tilapia topped with the lemon butter crawfish. The tilapia was crispy, and the lemon butter had the most amazing flavor. The server said her favorite pick from the mixed grill was the scallops, but personally, it was a bit too salty for me! Plenty of parking, great service, and nice interior with spacious seating!

Since it was Mother's Day, there were more tables than usual making the dining space tight and hard to maneuver for the guests and staff. Danny quickly took our drink orders and then our food orders. We opted for the chargrilled oysters and deviled eggs with shrimp for appetizers, scallops, ettoufe , and asparagus with jumbo lump crab for entrees. All the food was still the excellent quality provided on many of my visits. Half way through the meal and prior to our entrees coming, a party of 8 arrived and I asked if we could move to a vacant table along the back windows to give the group more space and the staff graciously accommodated us and helped us move. Great service, excellent food and drinks.

I didn't recall anything bad about the place, and given the rave reviews since then, I thought it was time to return. Based on reviews, we showed up early on a Friday evening (~5 pm). Even at that time, it was mostly full, but we were able to snag seats at the bar, which is first come first serve. We ordered the "regular" grilled oysters (5/5), which were anything but regular, as they were topped with peanuts and a really great flavor. I'd get these again. Fair warning, these take 20 minutes to come out, which I didn't mind, but I did not realize that they would not bring us anything else until after the oysters since these are considered an app. I thought they'd just bring things out as they were ready. This meant, we did not get our crawfish until we were already sitting there for an hour. About halfway into the wait for the crawfish (after the oysters), the fried rice (1/5) showed up, and I have to say, it was underwhelming. It came out room temperature, which to me is cold, and I thought this was just how they do it. Except 15 minutes later, the seats next to us got their fried rice, and it came out piping hot. You could still see the steam coming off of it. Besides being cold, I didn't think the fried rice was that good in terms of flavor. I also generally prefer the short grain rice, and this was more of a long grain. Once the crawfish showed up, we were well past an hour, so we dove right into it. Both the garlic butter and combo mix were great flavor - some of the best I've had in Houston. However.... it made me remember why we did not return. About 20% of the crawfish were TINY. And by tiny, I mean they were smaller than my pinky finger. Maybe I'm a crawfish snob, but at this time of the season, there should not be that many tiny crawfish. Maybe a few small ones, but not tiny. Crawfish flavor = 5+/5, crawfish quality = 2/5, crawfish cook = 3/5. Then I made the mistake of ordering a cluster of snow crab. That took another 30+ min to come out, and it was again room temperature. The service at the bar was fine (4/5), but the kitchen service (1/5) is not something I want to experience again, especially not for the crawfish quality/size. Yes, the flavor was amazing, but I'm not fighting for a table for lukewarm food and 30 min wait time for each dish. The pricing was some of the lowest I've seen ($8.99/lb crawfish), but I'd rather pay $1 more at other places for the quality.

I extremely wanted to like this place so badly. I found this place while scrolling on TikTok, and…read morethe videos seemed great, so we decided to try it. The look of the place was cute, and the music was great. But when we sat down in the booth, there was a dirty pink pillow in every booth. That should have been the first indication. I didn't understand the purpose of a pillow in a booth. And to think about how many kids or adults probably touched it, sat on it, or even played with that pillow--eww, gross. So we didn't touch it. It wasn't crowded at all, so we sat down. The server was okay. She explained some things about the menu. Essentially, we ordered wings as an appetizer and the boil second. Additionally, we ordered two drinks. When ordering the drinks, we first decided on the tropical tequila. Then a young man came back and told us it was just Red Bull and tequila. I was like, what? I went back to the menu, and it was supposed to have tequila, orange juice, lime, and a tropical energy drink. I appreciated the honesty, and he said he wanted to let us know because we couldn't send drinks back. So we ordered something else: a classic (basic) margarita and the GA-grown peach tea. The GA-grown peach tea tasted like water and peach medicine, and the margarita tasted like a sweet-and-sour juice mixture. Before ordering those two drinks, we had asked about two others on the menu, and he told us they didn't have the ingredients for either of them. He explained that they had just opened in April. It's now December, so I didn't understand how that correlated with us ordering drinks now. While waiting, the music was great, but it took a long time for the food to come out. And guess what--the wings and the boil came out at the same time. The waitress essentially never came back after taking our order. She came back to drop off the food, spoke to us, and then didn't return again until it was time to pay. We had to stop her in the middle of cleaning another table just to get what we needed. We ordered the Juicy Crab special. The flavor was good, and the wings were fine. The egg in the boil seemed a bit dry, which is crazy since it was in the boil mixture. The shrimp tasted a bit tough, as did the sausage. The corn was the best part, and the crab was okay. I'm not sure if it was the way it was cooked, but you know how when you snap a crab, it has that perfect crack? We struggled to crack the crab, but didn't think much of it at the time. About an hour after being there, both of us instantly ended up sick. We have an ER bill for proof. We will never eat here again.

Getting to the location was quite easy, parking was super easy as well, it is in a small shopping center. As I went inside, I could smell the food, and I knew it was going to be good. I was greeted by a younger guy who handed me the menu, but fortunately, I already knew what I wanted! Which was one of everything! But, I was solo on this day, so I had to have some restraint! I chose to go with the catfish basket, with 2 filets, fries (cajun), a side of mac and cheese, and a side of their specialty sauce that comes with crawfish! I had an appointment I was going to next, and I didn't think about how long it would take, but fortunately, it didn't take long at all. They drop the food to cook after you order, which I love!!!
