The ambiance was nice and made for a comfortable setting while we were there. However, the food was pretty mid. I ordered the spicy Cajun crawfish, and while the spice level was there, it lacked seasoning and didn't have the flavor I was expecting. On the other hand, the drinks were amazing. I went to 89 Crab Seafood on yesterday, specifically for the crawfish. They were frozen, but honestly still really good! I ordered them medium with the 89 seasoning, and they definitely had a kick -- I wouldn't go any spicier than medium. Once they get live crawfish in, they'll definitely be seeing me again. My manager ordered the Snow Crab, Shrimp, and Crawfish combo, and he said he really enjoyed the shrimp. They were huge, so I'll definitely be trying those next time too. You can get eggrolls or frog legs as an appetizer, So I ordered a mix of snow, crab, legs, crawfish, and mussels. Red beans and rice and dirty rice seems a little pricey at $7, but they were out anyway. I like how the other sides are reasonable and you can add them in as you like. So, I went to this place the last time I was in Houston but totally forgot. It's not too far from my sister's house, and I believe it is a complete hidden gem. The first time I went the server was super cool, and this time was no different. They have a really good HH, and overall the drinks are decently priced. I would say the seafood is as well tbh. I ordered 2 pounds of snow crabs, 2 corn, 3 potatoes, and 1 sausage link. The potatoes are huge and the sausage, but the sausage is more pork than anything so not a fan. The corn was so fresh and sweet but spicy from the sauce; I chose the bomb/medium. I wouldn't get this flavor next time. I also ordered the 30 shrimp special. You can get it with fries or fried rice; as you can see I got fried rice. The shrimp were good, but could've been fried longer. The fried rice is okay. I also had a margarita, it was cool too. How have I not known that my favorite 88 boiling seafood opened another brick and mortar called 89 crab??? My hairdresser is the one who informed me, and I rushed out to try it that same week! Folks, it is the same wonderful flavor and quality as 88 except the location is bigger, cleaner, and appears to have a larger menu! I typically pick up to go at 88 so it was nice to sit down and enjoy the meal at 89. We showed up around 8:30 pm and the place was well attended. Parking is plentiful in a well lit and fenced lot. We got the dozen oysters for $13-14, which look to be a daily special. Oysters were clean and fresh, so no complaints there. Also got a plate of bacon wrapped shrimp with fried rice (5/5), and it was cooked so well with giant shrimp. And of course the piping hot fried rice is full of flavor and always a fave. Then of course we couldn't leave without crawfish, which is now $8.99/lb. 89 special flavor on point as usual, crawfish boiled well and still tender, size small-medium (not tiny) for this time in the season as expected. I do find that 88-89 consistently has larger and better quality crawfish than other places at the same time in the season. We also splurged on a snow crab cluster ($12.99/lb) but I didn't think it was that good. Stick with the crawfish! So happy to find this place at the beginning of crawfish season - will definitely be back!! read more

Called the restaurant multiple times to have it resolved but they would not let me speak to the manager. Unfortunately they overcooked the lobster to where it had the consistency of a rubber ball. I quickly notified the manager and he applied a discount, but a true shame to lose a great piece of lobster tail to bad cooking. He did explain all of their lobsters are frozen. The oysters were really good and my server was fantastic even though there was a slight language barrier(everyone's got to work). She was very helpful and prompt for it being her first day. The owners are I believe Laos and Cambodian? I got this information from a Facebook post. They always restock my water, kept my table clean, and always asked if we needed anything so very attended! Crawfish is dip and very filling! They deep fry the chips and it gives it a nice crunch. I would only order this if I was eating one more thing and that's it, the reason being is because it was really filling. Flavor was good, it was like a cream cheese dip with the crawfish. The fried oysters and fried shrimp were yummy. Everything came out pretty fresh and hot. The fried rice that it came with was also flavorful and cooked well. The crawfish were very big and the flavor of the seasoning was spot on! They cook the crawfish perfectly and cleaned it very well, you can really taste all of those spices and the flavor really packed up a punch. I was very impressed. Lastly, the mango sticky rice. The mangoes were sweet, like they should, the sticky rice was cooked really nicely, the only thing I would suggest changing is their coconut cream sauce was a little overly salty for my taste, so I remove the cream sauce and just eat it with sticky rice. You can tell their fried rice was made on high heat so you get that flame grill taste which is sooo good. This place has great potential if they can fix the ambiance and the service. Although we were greeted nicely like customers should, the service experience from waitresses was lacking. Certain things that were common sense, didn't seem to make sense for them, and we had to ask for certain things like plates to eat the crawfish, or ask for things to be taken away as our table was getting cluttered. They seem young and lack experience but nothing that good training can fix. The other issue is that I saw no type of promotions like happy hour drinks to bring in customers. The food we tried is great but throwing in that little bit of catch would be helpful for those that just want to keep eating delicious food while enjoying drinks with friends. The ambiance is a little too dark and dreary for me. It felt dingy and drab. Lighten up the place, make it cleaner, get bartenders that can make good drinks, because the margaritas we had wasn't it, get you an assistant manager that can help run the floor and mange the girls training better, and provide happy hour specials. I ended up going to the kitchen bar another time to ask for menus. I also advised them that my friend and I were still waiting to receive service. I was told someone would be with us shortly. My friend and I asked two servers that passed by if our table would be tended to. Right as we were about to give up and head out to a different spot, a server stopped at our table to let us know she was dropping of some drinks and would be right back. Now I will say we had an amazing server once we got one. Unfortunately, I did not catch her name but she was absolutely fantastic and continued to follow up promptly throughout the rest of our visit. All in all from the time we walked in the door and sat down waiting to be helped, I'd say it was nearly 30-45 mins before we were spoken to and offered service. I would highly suggest that this place get a host to welcome guests and seat them so tables can be kept track of and provided service in a timely manner.
