My family got the "classic family platter". After waiting for a while they gave us the food platters. The food was already cold, and then they gave us plates later, so we had to wait further to get plates to distribute and eat the food. Weirdly whenever we go to Mambo's cold food is a consistent thing that happens. I'll start off by saying the food is good, nothing to complain about on that front. Service however awful. You walk in and the waitresses immediately have an off putting attitude, huddle around seemingly ignoring everyone. After we were sat, it took a while for a waitress to come to us, after that our drinks came after our food, not like right after but until we were able to wave down our waitress and ask for them again. And any other waitress seemed to just be standing around so it's not like we could find someone else to wait on us. I have ordered Bacon Wrap shrimps from Mambo Seafood in Katy quite a few times because I liked it. Unfortunately this time, last week, I ordered 2 servings for take out. So this was our 52nd anniversary, we're in Katy quite frequently, and we have eaten at a number of the restaurants in this area, and we had never eaten at mambo and decided we would try something new. I had the crawfish rice which the rice had no seasoning on it no flavor and the crawfish was piled on top of it didn't have any flavor either. Some of the chicken fell off of the dish whenever it was brought to the table onto the table, the waitress we had must've had some good friends there because she was talking to them quite a bit when she did pay attention to us she was very attentive. My wife had a salad which consisted most of the non-green parts of a salad with a piece of a tomato on top of it. She got the lobster which I've never seen a lobster look like that before in my life when it's been prepared correctly, but it looks like somebody took a sledgehammer after it we were brought a big bowl full of melted butter, and lots of onion and lots of garlic as a flavoring to put on the lobster. The tea was good, I basically paid $100 for $.50 worth of rice five dollars worth of crawfish a butchered lobster and I guess the what they got off of the table from cutting up lettuce as a salad. I seriously doubt there is a qualified shelf or anybody resembling a shelf, preparing these meals. I usually don't go to a restaurant without going to the website and checking the reviews and since it was the last minute decision to try something new and I didn't check for a reviews. This location is always busy, so it can get a bit hectic. I've had to sit outside in the heat before because there were no tables available indoors. On the plus side, their fried rice is probably my favorite dish here, and the portion sizes are great! Customer service has been hit or miss. I had a pretty frustrating experience once when I ordered bacon-wrapped shrimp without jalapeño. When my order came, the jalapeños were still on the shrimp. I let the waitress know, and instead of addressing it professionally, she asked, "Why don't you just pick them out?" I explained that the jalapeño flavor would still be there, and she just sighed, took the shrimp back, and brought out a new order. While I was relieved to get the correct dish, I was shocked to later find I'd been charged twice--once for the shrimp with the jalapeño that I didn't eat and again for the replacement! We loved most of the food here. Let's start with the pros. We ordered the mambo style shrimp from the appetizer section. We opted for the 20 count. This dish was amazing. 10/10 will be back for this. We also ordered the #1 combo: 2 fried fish and 6 shrimp. This was also great. The batter was light and crispy. Their tarter sauce was so unique and good. It had a hint of cucumber. In all honesty, when this place first opened it used to be the bomb! Their shrimp fried rice / Mambo rice was always so good & fresh. Came here tonight with my fiancé and he ordered the fried fish and mambo rice combo, we ordered the shrimp empenada costeñas & I ordered a small mambo rice. We were seated quickly and the food came out pretty fast. As soon as we took our first bite of the rice I knew it wasn't it. My rice was actually like lukecold. Does that make sense? Lukecold. Leaning more towards cold than lukewarm. To say that it had JUST come from the kitchen, we were very surprised so we told our waiter and he sent it back. We waited about 20 minutes & I ate the empanadas. When he came back with fresh plates, my boyfriend's fish was hot but guess what our rice was? You guessed it, lukecold. It actually made me upset. I almost felt like they were playing with me. How do you go back to the kitchen and bring rice that's the exact same temp as what you took earlier? I was expecting to blow my food and eat it, and that didn't happen. I didn't even eat it. I only ate the empanadas. It's like they couldn't throw it in the microwave or anything. SO disappointing. Shortly after, the manager came and asked if I'd like to take some hot fried rice to go. At that point, I was extremely frustrated but I obliged. Every time I drive through Houston, I love to stop here at mambo seafood. All of the food is priced, very reasonably, and comes out to the table quickly. I've never had an issue at any of their locations. I normally get the fried shrimp with fried rice. The restaurant is typically loud, well lit, and I always expect some type of wait. Well, lets hop on a boat filled with lots of spice, and let me tell you about it. I arrived at the Mambo in Katy after hearing great things about this chain from multiple sources. As I pulled in with my girlfriend, the location seemed clean, and big. At first, the girl working the front, the supposed 'hostess' was trying to seat us as a table. My girlfriend saw that a booth was opene and asked her if we could be moved there. The hostess gave us the 'stankiest' of faces, seemed annoyed that we asked for a booth, but took us to a booth, with a clear attitude written on her face. She seemed too lazy to wipe the table and clear it off, but she did so, and then moved along. This through us off for a bit, as customer service is everything for me, but fortunately, the service improved from the actual waitress. She was incredibly sweet, provided great service and even gave us suggestions on the menu. We decided to go for the Mambo Style Shrimp, a Mambochelada, and the Chicharon de Salmon Tacos. Everything was absolutely delicious! My girlfriend found the shrimp to be a bit spicy, but I was able to tolerate it with no issues. Our food was accompanied by crackers and plenty of plates to dispose of our shrimp tales. The waitress was awesome and sweet, she cleared our tables efficiently and continuously checked up on us. The Mambochelada was great as well, and we had the option of using any domestic or international beer with it. The Chicharron de Salmon Tacos were something so unique that we had never seen anywhere. The three tacos disappeared off the plate so quickly! We loved them. There was an option to have a sauce accompanied the tacos, but since we fear spicy food, we chose to keep it on the side. BEWARE! This used to be a great place but I see a declining number of customers. The staff is nice and friendly but something is not right here. As someone else mentioned here, our dinner check changed. We were giving our check however the credit card recipe increased by $18. Ya know, they give you your check, you hand them your credit card and they return with the paper you sign. Most people just sign the paper and leave but I noticed the amount ran on my card had increased. What the heck is going on here? They told me they could not change the amount because the card had already been charged. We would have to wait 10 days for a refund or something. It didn't make sense. I'll probably never see the money again but they never see me as a customer either. Silly people losing customers like this. Do they think it was worth it? I've never visited this place but I did order a plate that I enjoyed at home! It was very very good, I got the Mambo Classic #1 that brings fish, shrimp and fried rice. It was very good, the fish and shrimp are seasoned very well and just bring the plate to life. The price was pretty good for all the plate brings and it's quality. This place is so good, and the seafood is very fresh! We like to sit at the bar, and watch them put together various plates. Def get the seafood cocktail, we get the shrimp and fish, there's a fancier one that has oyster and octopus in there as well. The empanadas were huge and pretty good as well...but I recommend staying fresh at this place...too good not to! The seafood tostadas were great too, but very similar to the cocktail. The mambo style shrimp are incredible!! (Boiled shrimp heavily seasoned with garlic and spices.) We tried Mambo Seafood in Katy on a Sunday afternoon and were generally pleased. We split the Mambo Combo that included fried shrimp, fried fish fillets, stuffed crab & stuffed shrimp plus seafood rice. The fried shrimp and fish were very tasty and not greasy with just the right amount of crunch on the batter while moist and tender inside. The seafood rice featured a great creole seasoning and was chock full of miniature shrimp that were also very tasty. The only letdown were the stuffed crab and stuffed shrimp where the stuffing in both cases was way too bready. We'll likely return for the cleanliness, the friendly service, and the great fresh seafood. We'll just avoid the stuffed items in the future. read more

Fantastic food! And quick service. Come hungry cause the portions are HUGE. The fried tilapia is great I just wish they gave more tartar sauce cause I'm a dipper.
