I was beyond excited when this came to Katy. It took me a while to go because I was waiting for the crowd to die down. Warning, there is always a crowd and plan to wait. However, the wait is so worth it. The food was amazing. Service was a tad slow but they were packed. We started with a 1/2 order of fried calamari, which came with fried shrimp on top! Wow! Never seen that before. It was great. I didn't love the batter but it was good. My husband tried the gumbo and he loved it. If he could of licked the bowl, he would of. I had the fried shrimp platter with fries and the shrimp were big and lightly fried. So good! Then came the star of our dinner. The combo fried rice and holy cow, it's as good as I remember it from years ago. It was huge. We got the smaller portion, which feeds 2-3 people. The large feeds 5-7. This is the bomb! It's amazing and I can't wait to go back and get more. The prices are so reasonable, the food is amazing and the restaurant is nice. Nothing fancy, great music and great atmosphere. We've always wanted to try Mambo but it's always out of the way. So when we found out that this location is open, we were super excited about finally trying it! My boyfriend and I came in on Labor Day around 4:30-5 and it was already super busy. There is little to no waiting area so we had to awkwardly stand to the side and wait for the hostess to acknowledge us. When she was done yelling into her earpiece, she finally made eye contact with us and said "wait a minute". Then continued yelling into her headset. 5 minutes went by before she looked at us again and said "see that guy cleaning the table over there? When he's done you can go sit over there". Ummm... okay..? So we sat ourselves down after we were done waiting for him to clean. Thank goodness our waitress was great and the food was amazing. We both ordered the #1 on the menu with fried fish, fried shrimp, and mambo rice. It was great! The fish and shrimp were juicy and crispy, the rice was flavorful, and we loved that there was a huge soda menu to choose from! Our waitress was attentive and checked on us frequently as well. My only complaints were the hostess and the water that tasted like sink water. Other than that, I think Mambo has wonderful food for a wonderful price. We had ten Mambo shrimp, a half pound of fried calamari, octopus with chipotle sauce, red snapper fillets fried with flour and Z Style, and grilled salmon with pico de gallo and shrimp Mambo rice and French fries. Nataly was amazing and requested clarification when something ordered couldn't be made the way we ordered it but that alternative ideas were available instead. The only thing that I would change is to offer squid and octopus grilled, as those two are amazing grilled. Honestly, food is delicious! I took my parents here when they visited TX. I had to take away two stars due to the service though. Our waitress was horrible. I ordered the pepino margarita.. I forgot the name. My drink arrived w/o the toppings (pepino y jicama). My mom really wanted my jicama so she asked the waitress, she laughed it off saying she couldn't believe we actually wanted that then told us they ran out. Like mam, do you think we are stupid? We are sitting by the bar, and see every other waitress walking by with the same drink beautifully decorated except yours. When I ordered a second one, my mom asked to please put the jicama this time.. she walked away laughing and rolling her eyes.. but she did. When we were ordering, the lady was so annoyed and mentioned the style my mom ordered the fish was practically burnt. My mom assured her she wanted the fish crispy so it was fine. The fish arrived perfect. Everything about the waitress was awful and it was obvious she hated her job. Out of respect to waiters, my mom still left her a $24 tip on a $98 dollar tab.. but when my mom got her receipt it was a 2 $24 tips.. so $48 total and she did not notice until she left. The waiter took from the experience as the food is worth 5 stars. I would recommend management to fix this waiters behavior and she should not be scamming tips out of customers. read more

Wow! This place is amazing!! The prices are awesome and the food is incredible! Specifically there mambo rice is scrumptious on a whole new level. I could literally make it a meal all on its own. It's like a combo between Chinese shrimp fried rice and Mexican rice. Most meals come with your choice of side. If you don't get the mambo rice, you are missing out!! Also the other fav of mine is the bacon wrapped shrimp. So good! That's probably gonna be my staple meal here from now on. The fried shrimp and the fried fish are also very very good! Okay, I should start off by saying that I don't usually give five stars unless the food, service, AND experience are top notch. That being said, this place is amazing. The portions were overly generous for the prices. The manager Javier was immediately attentive, warm, sincere, and hospitable. He greeted us at the door with friendly jokes. He came to our table several times throughout the visit to ensure that we were having a wonderful experience. He offered us complimentary Mambo Special fried rice for the table, which was wonderful. We're rice people, so we really enjoyed this one. Javier was a huge part of the amazing experience. We ordered their crawfish to start. I'm a bit of a crawfish snob, but I REALLY enjoyed it. The corn and potatoes were tasty. My husband and I also ordered the Mambo Combo to share, as the portions were overflowing. Honestly, we were so full by the time the food came, we couldn't even eat much of the combo. The stuffed crab was good, but that's as far as I got. The horchata was delicious. I immediately text the number on the sign with the make, model & color of my car, and then I continued to wait...and wait.. Mambos was busy, like on and poppin', for pandemic times anyway. I saw some activity at the to-go counter, but figured I wasn't the only one picking up to-go, but after seeing 5 or six people come and go with food, I decided to call and check. I told the girl who answered that I had a feeling that it was my food that had been sitting on that counter for quite a while, as I placed my order at 9:06pm for curbside pick-up and it was now 9:48pm. She checked, and sure enough it was my order. So I pleaded with her to ask if it could be remade, because I didn't want to take soggy luke warm fried fish and fried shrimp home to my family. The rice, bread and salad were probably fine. She said she wouldn't want that either and would talk to her manager. She called me back about and 7 minutes later and told me that the order had come out not so long ago and that it should be fine, and that she was bringing it to me. She brought it out, and was very nice, and kindly explained that the curbside girl's shift was over, so she had left my order on the counter, clocked out and didn't tell anyone it was there. Cool, okay. I took my food home to my family, and can you guess what happened next?? I had luke warm soggy fried fish and fried shrimp for dinner. I probably should have talked to the manager myself, but I didn't want to be all Karen about it. So I ate my nasty ass $57 soggy meal and wrote this review instead. Apparently wasn't missing anything after having not been to this place for a decade. 2/10 would not recommend. read more

When Mambo Seafood (Katy) opened there was quite the buzz. I drove by a few times and there was always a line. They are open pretty late on Friday night, so we thought we would stop in for a late bite to avoid the lines. We arrived at 9:00 and still had a 20 minute wait for a table. Once seated, the menus (with pictures) are waiting on the table. The server brings a basket of crackers and napkins, which I had not experienced before. For first time diners, the menu has a lot going on, but the servers are willing to give you plenty of time to sort things out. We ordered drinks. No liquor here, just beer and wine. They serve margaritas, but the server explained they are wine based, not tequila based. I'm not sure if those are any good. I'll leave that experiment to someone else. We ordered a couple beers. The server brings the beer in a bottle with an ICE COLD glass. It's so ice cold, there's frozen ice on the base of the glass. Everybody ordered an appetizer which varied from ceviche to tostadas. All of which tasted and looked very good. We ordered a variety of entrees. Everybody was pleased with their selections. We've been back a number of times and been pleased with everything ordered. Pix are included. A few tips: 1. If you're looking for a 5 star seafood restaurant, Mambo is not the place. You're going to be served a large amount of good quality food at a very good price. The ambiance is casual. 2. Mambo has a unique Seafood, Mexican, Asian fusion thing going on. The staple side dish is Mambo Shrimp Fried Rice. The grilled veggies come with Elote Corn. It works for me. 3. The servers are very respectful of your experience and don't rush you. We've had a few times and where we were so wrapped up in chatting that we didn't realize we had been seated for almost 2 1/2 hours. My family and I were finally able to come here after the busy buzz of their two week grand opening. There was not a day where their "out the door" line didn't threaten me, but finally amongst early lunch we were able to swipe a seat outside. Immediately before even being seated the two hostesses treated us kindly letting us take a seat wherever we please. The waitress greeted us at our table offering us their signature pepinada which was refreshing and not too sweet. For a light lunch we shared a seafood cocktail, the Mambo shrimp, and their famous mambo fried rice. All of which, for being 'starters' were very decently sized, come out quickly, and were incredibly delicious. The Mambo fried rice really competes with any local Chinese or "Japanese fried rice in the area, and can be accompanied by their complementary hot sauces or soy sauce. At the end of our meal the manager came to greet us and made sure the food and service was up to par. Like every other Mambo Seafood this one was excellent. Service was outstanding given the level of activity which was appreciable. In point of fact the waiting line by the time we left must have been at least 30' and given the size of this restaurant is an appreciable wait...but well worth it. Let me back up here for a minute however and not assume everyone knows what Mambo Seafood is....there are after all Martians and Jovians amongst us. In any case, Mambo is something of a fusion faire-Latin/Pacific and American but focused on Seafood. The menu ranges from Fried to Broiled, to Stuffed Fish, Ceviche (cured) and a variety of seafood soups and of course Oysters on the Halfshell. I can't even begin to name my favorites and would simply suggest that you focus on the preparation (Fried, broiled etc.) and then follow the menu for type of meal. My personal favorites are soup...when it's not 100+degrees F and Ceviche (any of them although I prefer pulpo) however I will tell you that it is one of the few restaurants in which the quality of every plate, the quantity and the value are not an incredible bargain. There are as well dailty specials and always 'street elote' (corn-on-the-cob). Thank you for opening a Mambo close to my residence however if you are anywhere within Houston, Baytown, Katy or McAllen TX it is well worth a visit. Delicious food, Dependable at all of the 5 locations I have been to so far, excellect service and incredible value. Difficult to find and maintain this level of excellence but somehow Mambo Management has 'managed' to do so. read more

The shrimp and the fish had been cooked sometime before, it was not freshly cooked. It was not even hot. I am elated that we now have a Mambo's in Katy! This location has tried several restaurants which I failed. I bet a unicorn that Mambo's will do fantastic because well... it's Mambo's. If you have never tried it, I would best describe it as a fusion between Mexican and Asian which is seafood focused. The ceviches are freaking awesome. The Mambo's rice is delish - a must try. Today I had the grilled stuffed shrimp, woozah... so yum. Lots of cheese and the bacon had the perfect crisp to it. I went during lunch so it wasn't insanely busy, but like all new restaurants in Katy, if you go in the evening be prepared to wait, at least for awhile. The staff was super friendly. They do have many trainees but they were attentive. The manager Juan walked around to each table to see how everything was a chat with us for bit. He was awesome!
