Visited this Mambo location off of I-10 for a family lunch. We waited for an hour to be seated. Families and guest were forced to stand near the front door cramped together since there was little to no waiting area. Super unorganized in the way of hosting and seating guest. I rember the Mambos on Airline used to serve big mongoloid pieces of fish with fried rice that would make a chinese chef covet it. Back in the day that is. Tried this location for the first time in YEARS and was sorely disappointed. Now the fish is still good I'll give them that but the portions are pittiful. As you can see by the pics the fillets are about the size of a soda can ( soda not included). The shrimp are mediocre are barely medium at best. Guess they try to make up for that by butterflying and flattening them. The rice...the rice was a bit hard and flavor was right up there with the fried rice of the cheapest mom and pop joint. It just didn't have the flavor. It was just tragic cause that was the main reason I tried them again. This for $12? Not from me. NEVER AGAIN. Maybe if it at least tasted like old school Mambos. I really miss those hunks of fish that were each as big as a grown mans fist and I'm not exaggerating. read more

In a world where it seems that no one no longer listens or cares, I was pleasantly surprised when Mambo's Business Manager - Maria A. responded to my previous review with a sincere apology and an invitation to return to Mambos for a better experience. (Maria was not the manager mentioned in my last review). My husband and I took her up on her offer and recently revisited Mambos. Maria kept her word. She personally greeted us at the door when we arrived, made sure we were seated, and had her waitresses give us prompt attention. As always, the food we ordered was extremely delicious and plentiful. The service we received from our waitress, May was outstanding. She had a very sweet personality and was very accomodating. Unlike the waiter in our previous experience, she was very attentive; we never felt neglected. Our experience this time was definitely much better than our last. I'm actually glad we accepted Maria's offer and didn't write off Mambos as we had planned to. We left the restaurant feeling very satisfied in more ways than one. Between Maria and May, we felt that Mambos handed us back the dignity and respect we had lost at our last visit. We appreciated this and have upgraded our review to 5 STARS, as a result! They keep messing things up at this mambos location. I thInk that they have plenty of staff to go around but they still can't get it together. Tonight we walked into a half empty place and with mote servers at the bar than customers. It took a good five minutes until one of the servers decided to come by to say hello and take our drinks order. I would be okey with thIs if it wasn't that there were barely 15-20 in the place. To make matters worse, they took forever to serve one of our entrees (mojarra frita)to our table tHat we just decided to cancel it. Hope they get their act together soon. read more

This place is my jam! Lol. One of me and my meatballs favorite places to go. The food is always yummy and fresh. If you like spicy, get the habanero rice you will not be disappointed. It's a simple restaurant with a cantina feel. In my opinion, you can't go wrong here. The prices are cheap for the amount of food that you get. I can put down some fish and shrimp, so when it's hard for me to eat it all, that's a healthy portion. Definitely a must go! read more

Run!!! Like please be careful ordering take out. I placed an order for a group of doctors for our night shift staff and we all got our food someway wrong and one meal did not get their full order. Tried calling before close time but no one answered the phone. One ordered calamari and she just went home feeling really sick and thinks she got food poisoning from the uncooked calamari. The Vuelve La. Ida and shrimp in the rice is NOT deveined. On top of that, the cocktail came in mixed in the bag with HOT meals, so the second person just went home too most likely from food poisoning. Common sense, NEVER put seafood out too long or near heat when it's an intended cold seafood meal. I would not write this review if it was just something like "just distasteful" but it is just unethical and so wrong of Mambos Seafood to be very careless like this. They have good items of seafood. My first time trying there, I like the octopus scampi the best. It's moist and succulent and juicy. I tried seafood cocktail, fried mambo combo, stuffed jalapeños. It was New Years day and this place was PACKED. So I was fully expecting to be neglected by the servers and waiting an extremely long time for my food, but that wasn't the case. In just a few minutes a server greeted our table, which was outside, and took our order. The food then arrived maybe about 10 minutes later. I was very impressed. The server didn't really speak English so that made things a bit awkward but we managed to communicate enough by pointing to the menu. Ordered the Shrimp Tostata & empanadas as an appetizer. (the empanadas are really good, they are filled with shrimp & cheese, I recommend them) Ordered the #1, which is 2 fish, 6 shrimp, shrimp fried rice, & roll. Al the food was good. However the fish was cold, but being it was a holiday and as busy as they were I don't really mind that. The prices are very reasonable. It came out to be about $30 for 2 appetizers & 2 entrees. But if you enjoy a less intense dining experience, this may not be the perfect match. If you've been to Mambo before then you come to expect that they're always going to be packed....this location is no different. The first time we visited was on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday lunch and they were swamped. When we first walked in we were told it was going to be a minimum wait of 45minutes. 45 MINUTE WAIT MINIMUM...Since everyone was hungry and we had a party of 12 meeting we didn't decide to go anywhere else. It just would have been too much trouble to get everyone in sync. Man, the seafood gods were on our side because we were actually seated within 10 minutes due to another party cancelling, yay! They accommodated our large party nicely and sat us at a table where we had more than enough room. The food was delicious. We opted for the #3 Family Pack which has shrimp, fish fillets, mambo fried rice, and bread. Though the menu states it's for 12 people we had a bunch of food left over, and that's after people had seconds too! The service was just ok. They seemed overwhelmed with how busy it was and we got the impression that they didn't have enough employees since we saw a lot of swapping between tables. Three different waitresses helped us and they were very attentive. While the food was delicious, we also felt on edge. Since it was extremely busy and it seemed short-staffed, there was stuff going on in every direction. Not my favorite situation to be in. They do have their own parking lot but again, it's always busy so you might have to circle once to twice to find a spot. Located at the corner of Fry Rd, in the Home Depot/Joann/Ross shopping center, it's easy to spot. We (a table of 8 1/2) asked Andrea, a waitress by the entrance, for a high chair and all we got was a very rude look and the cold shoulder. It took us discussing how rude it was and how sucky the service was for her to finally grab a high chair from outside. The rude attitude and lack of costumer service was appalling, the wait time was ridiculous, and the overall experience was horrible. First time here for me and it was okay. I'm a seafood lover and have to tell you, I wasn't impressed. The only thing that was really good was the chicharron de tilapia (fried tilapia bites). Every piece was super crispy and wasn't drenched in grease. We also ordered the fried tilapia with veggies. I've had way better tilapia. It was super flat, barely any fish meat and not flaky at all. The roll that came with the fish was not fresh either. The size of the shrimp and crawfish was decent, however, their mambo flavor was way too salty. Just called to place an order, Jasmine/Jasmin attitude was awful. Wasn't able to hear anything because of the extra loud noise on the back and of course she wasn't doing any effort to try to understand me. I ordered the Monterrey chicken and asked for chicken rice instead of shrimp, and she said I cannot replaced it not even paying extra for it. REALLY!!??????? I went to the Katy Freeway location on Friday for dinner with my girlfriend. We got the bill, I paid and left our server a tip. A few days later I check my bank statement to see a totally different total than what I left on my receipt. I called the location we went to and asked to speak to a manager. The manager told me that they were busy and took my name and number down. I haven't received a call back yet. Busy or not, if there's a matter of integrity and waitresses stealing from customers then that's a matter that should be addressed immediately. Me and my girlfriend come to this location at least once a week but I feel as if the trust was broken and my concerns were not taken care of when brought to managements attention. The employee responsible should not be employed with Mambo moving forward because it makes me wonder who else she's stolen from. I'm sure I wasn't the first. read more

I love Mambo Seafood. We normally go to the one on Long Point Rd. Now there is one closer to home, at Fry's road. Both are great, however I like the Long Point Rd better. It may be my impression, but seems the portions are more generous at this location than at Katy. Plus you have the option of seating outside. But as said, both are extraordinary. If you're looking for really good fried rice, this is the place to be. I ordered the shrimp fried rice, and the Chipotle chicken with fried and a side salad. The sodas are mixable, so you can tell your waitress whatever flavors you would like to add. For example I got cherry coke and vanilla coke. They have a variety of drinks which is nice. And the portions are decent for the price. The shrimp fried rice tasted amazing. The shrimp was crispy and absolutely delicious. The Chipotle chicken had a lot of sauce on top, but was all right. If you're not a saucy person, I wouldn't suggest it. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, constantly checking in and making sure my drink was full.
