I had looked over the online menu before heading to the restaurant. I noticed that they offered three different sizes for queso sauce - small, medium and large. At the restaurant, only medium and large was on the menu. I asked if they had the small and was told yes. I ordered it. When it arrived I asked again if it was a small. He said yes. On the receipt it indicated a medium queso for over $7. I questioned the size and was told that the medium is the small. And I guess I made the mistake of saying queso sauce instead of chili con queso because we got cheese sauce with a side of jalapenos. Sopapillas were hot but tasted old. Three of us dined there and were satisfied with our plates. Two fajita enchilada plates and one enchilada verde plate. I noticed a customer saying "excuse me" at least five times to our waiter who was sitting about 10 ft away from them. He was staring into his phone. We normally have good service. read more

We looked this spot up because we wanted Mexican food and it was close. We pulled up and not a parking spot in sight and it was a big parking lot. We walked in at it was packed but we only waited 2 minutes so that was great. We were greeted with warm smiles. Our server was mediocre but it was busy so we gave grace. The drinks have alcohol in them and you can taste it! We had mini chimichangas, enchiladas, and fajitas. All the food was pretty good. No complaints. Well we didn't care for the free chips and salsa. I had a major craving for sour cream enchiladas this evening, so did some searching and found that Ray's supposedly had a good option for this. I called and placed an order for this and a queso puff and they had it ready for pick-up in about 10-12 minutes. While the service was nice and food was hot, the taste was honestly terrible. I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants over the years and this place is definitely a solid 1-2 -- at least as far as the enchiladas and queso go. The sour cream enchiladas were made with chicken fajita meat that tasted like it was leftover and reheated, and the "queso" tasted like mealy, low-quality ballpark cheese. Not sure how there are so many good reviews - this definitely seems like a place with a following based on relationships rather than food quality and taste. My search for tasty sour cream enchiladas will have to continue! read more

I love coming to Ray's for their enchiladas! I recently discovered the light combo plates, and I've been getting the light combo #3 the last few visits. $9 for a crispy taco, queso puff, and 2 cheese enchiladas. It's the perfect amount for me. There is something abt that queso that keeps bringing me back to this dish lol! I dip whatever I can into that cheese. It's soo yummy. The enchiladas are always served piping hot, and they will never not slap. My dad and brother shared the parrillada especialda plate. Out of all the meats included in the dish, I enjoyed the grilled shrimp the most because of its texture. The beef was pretty tough to chew. Everything was seasoned well though. Service is always phenomenal. The owner is super friendly and kind. I heard they have great margaritas here too, but I have not had the chance to try them yet. I've been to Ray's a few times and for the most part, I've enjoyed it my food. This time was different. I ordered the Beef Enchiladas as usual on 10/18. The Enchiladas looked so good until I took a bite. It was bland as I don't know what.. Would it hurt to season the meat, season the sauce. At that point they could've seasoned the corn tortillas. First time takeout. To be specific, common sense prep of taco salad was non existent. May be better in person but this is not worth price or trip. First, no taco shell and dipping chips were too thick and overcooked. Meat could not be re-heated since it was underneath salad components. Second dish of beef enchiladas was ok but a mistake to put in metal container since it cannot be re-heated in microwave. Tex-Mex takeout is never as good as in person but this experience was my worst and takeout should be packaged as needed for re- heating. Ray's will always be my choice whenever I go out for Tex-Mex The green salsa or avocado salsa whatever it is. it is amazingly delicious and their chips are the perfect amount amount of crunch I love if they have entrées that are under $10 so if you aren't super hungry, you can get a good deal. plus, my personal favorite, the chimichanga is freaking amazing. They put actual sliced delicious fajita steak in there and drizzle it in delicious queso. Oh my lanta. Slap of that green sauce on it and you're good to go. I don't drink, but the people that I eat with do! and they have found that the drinks are delicious. Q and a helpful tip. If you don't drink like me, their jicama is very refreshing! Service was good, everyone was attentive and super friendly. There were 3 in our party and neither of us felt it was worth a repeat visit. I didn't like the taste of the ground beef, the shredded chicken was delicious though. It just was very greasy, maybe from the heavy cheese (cheddar and Velveeta) and we aren't used to eating those kinds of foods. Ray's was referred to me by chance from a person I met in another restaurant. I sat next to a lady at happy hour at a restaurant that suggested Ray's. She said that they have some of the strongest margaritas and I should visit to check them out. So the next week I decide to visit to see if what she said was true. They are located on Mason Rd south of I-10near Cimarron Pkwy. I ordered the premium margarita and it did not disappoint. I started to feel it near the end of the 1st margarita. I still ordered a second and immediately I knew I should have not. I couldn't drink it while I was there and I decided to take it to go. The chips are thick and all the salsa are so spicy that you can hardly eat them. I ordered a number five. It's called a light meal. It had a crispy taco, a cheese puff and a bean Chalupa. The cheese puff was literally a corn tortilla fried turned upside down with some nasty cheese sauce on it. The crispy taco was a corn tortilla is so thick that you could hardly chew it. If you're going to Ray's, you're going for the margaritas, which are great. Their food is okay at best, but their chips and salsa (especially the green salsa) are great. Service is great and you'll be treated well. I think if the prices were a little lower I would go more, but the price is hard to justify for the quality of the food. This restaurant has authentic, delicious Mexican food. As a non local, I was craving some Tex-mex food. This state is full of these type of restaurants, so when I discovered this place and their website implied that "they were the best in town." I had to give them a try. The menu featured the classics: tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajita and chimichangas. There are some items that I would like to try on my next visit: stuffed avocados, brocheta stuffed jalapeños, and chalupas. My boyfriend and I decided to order the spinach enchiladas and shrimp tacos. Both were delightful but the spinach enchiladas was the best. Better yet, the best enchilada I've ever had. Since we came during lunch, we kept it lite. We were full off the spicy salsa and chips. You can tell the chips were fresh and made in house. I saw many families in this restaurant and couples like us. This is a perfect spot for all who is looking for some authentic Mexican cuisine. Plus, the wait staff was great! From my very first visit, Ray's never disappoints. The service is outstanding, the food is great, and the best frozen margaritas on the planet! And I have tried margaritas across Texas. I am super particular about cheese enchiladas, and theirs are the best. You have never had such a tender rib plate, and yes I said rib plate at a Mexican food restaurant! The beef nachos-delish. Oh, and for the Keto people, you must get the PK special and a side of the broccoli or the grilled veggies. WOW! DELICIOUS. oh and the Tortilla soup! Here is what happens, you are made to feel like friends from your fist visit. The owners, Ray & Gloria, are down to earth and genuine good people. Their son's are are so kind, professional and genuinely want you to enjoy yourself. After so many years, you feel like family. All the staff get to know you, they treat you like family and are glad to see you when you come in. I tell everyone it is like the show "Cheers" - everyone knows your name. I have met so many good people by just getting to know them by sitting near them, sitting at the bar for a to-go order, waiting outside for a table, etc. Anyone who visits me from out-of-town, they make sure I know Ray's is a definite plan during their visit. We decided to try this place . The staff was very friendly and the place was clean . You get chips and salsa while you wait which is always a plus in my book. I really liked both salsas . I believe my husband ordered something like a chili colorado which he enjoyed . Came with flour tortillas and a big portion . I decided to try their sour cream enchiladas which I have never tried before . I did one chicken and one shrimp . The rice and beans were very good and the enchiladas were as well. I would like to go back and try Them again but this time with their red enchilada sauce . So far this has been the closest to be less Tex mex and I enjoyed it . Minus half a star. So I'll say it is edible. But it's far from "good". Service was eh. Took a bit just to get a water. I say that because all the alcoholic beverages were served before my water. The queso so awful. It's yellow water. Nearly ZERO flavor. I requested a "queso blanco" which developed a bit of confusion. At that moment I knew this was a bad choice for lunch. To add I requested 2-3 time to 2 different servers for dice fresh jalapeño. And still received the wrong jalapeños. Literally only dipped two chips and I sent it back. (Would have been nice NOT to have been charged but hey I guess it is what it is). The two salsa option were actually okay. Definitely the best thing of the order. The food all around was lacking any flavor. The ground beef was just that. Ground beef no seasoning. I purposed ordered the cheapest easiest thing on the menu With the hopes it would be at least OK. The chicken was even less than the ground beef. Sadly, it was a couple bites and on to the next place to satiate my hunger. This was a very disappointing experience. This place is amazing. They serve very good Mexican food, it's cheap and comes in BIG servings. Their dish for 4 is more like for 8. We barely put a dent on it. But we were very happy to have found this place during our trip to Katy, TX. I also liked the festive ambience and the warm welcoming hosts.
