Ventured out to Katy for a friend's birthday dinner, I have been here before but for quick breakfast. Ambiance: 5/5 Parking is ample and located near the restaurant. Inside it is spacious and has some colorful and lively decor. Great for groups or solo at the bar. Service: 5/5 The hostess was friendly and immediately directed me to my friend's table. Once seated, the waiter was very attentive and accommodating in checking in on us and getting our orders going. Food: 5/5 We ordered the beef and chicken fajitas to share. The beef fajitas were flavorful just as I'd hoped but the chicken was a bit dry. With the order we each get our own plate of rice and beans and choice of tortillas. The flour tortillas were delicious, almost like home made, so much so that I took the leftovers tortillas home to enjoy with butter. The highlight for me was the Skinny Margarita with my customization of adding a shot of Amaretto. I've been disappointed at other places because they never taste fresh, or have an extremely tart flavor, but the bartender had it down to a science because when I tell you from my first sip it was like heaven! Fresh, not too sweet and I only had one and was tipsy, I wasn't the only one. My two friends got the same one and agreed it was delicious and they too were tipsy. And you get your money's worth. I don't live in this area, but for this margarita, I may have to visit again soon. I'm thirsty thinking about it as I'm writing this and likely still thinking about it while you're reading this. On Saturday, June 28th, I ordered the large beef fajita nachos from Neca's. On Sunday, June 29th, I became extremely sick after reheating the beef fajita nachos from Neca's --something that has never happened before. Between Saturday and Sunday, the only meal I had was Neca's nachos. I had to go to urgent care, where I was put on an IV and given medication to treat what was diagnosed as food poisoning. In addition to the above facts, my toddler ate a bit off my plate Saturday/Sunday and exhibited symptoms similar to mine. On Monday, June 30th at 9:04am, I called to share my experience with the staff. To be clear, my intention in calling was not to leave a negative review, but simply to bring the matter to the restaurant's attention - privately. Unfortunately, the owner, Albert, was defensive throughout the call. He said things like, "I don't doubt that happened, but we've never had a complaint," and dismissed my experience rather than showing concern. I explained I wasn't calling to leave a bad review but to make them aware. But alas, here we are. If you're looking for a place with good food and quality customer service, I suggest you look elsewhere. But if you're fine risking your health and dealing with defensive owners, Neca's may be the place for you. read more

The staff is always a 5 star whenever we come in for takeout. They are very sweet and always are ready to help. We've tried their food twice and find it all tastes very similar. Not bad by any means, but nothing stands out. My family got the 2 cheese enchiladas, bean burrito, and beef burrito, and all found it to taste almost identical. Neca's has easily become a favorite place to eat recently. Everyone is attentive and the food is good. A little inconsistent with the taste and texture of the tamales, but that's about it. Usually when I frequent a Mexican restaurant it's because I want my go-to meal. Here, I like to switch it up because of the menu options and I've never had a meal that I haven't thought was bad. My faves...the El Cuatro, El Dos and Fajitas La Ñeca. There are so many options to choose from on the menu that you will want to return just to try additional dishes. During Covid, they try to space everyone out to make sure people feel comfortable and the place has a decent setup. Originally, I thought it was smaller than what it was inside. Wouldn't mind going there for a few drinks and to watch a game. Definitely recommend if you're out in the Katy/Fulshear area and looking for a good place to eat. read more

I heard about this place from a couple in my single parents group at church. So, I decided to come check it out. The atmosphere is weird. It has modern, neutral colors and nice finishes inside. It felt as if they started to make it as a fine dining place, and then pivoted last minute, threw some ceramic Latin themed pieces on the wall, and decided to do Mexican food. It was also very cold temperature wise... which added to the lack of comfort/homeliness feel I'd expect when going for Mexican food. The first thing I noticed was that the menu looks freakishly identical to the menu at LaFinca- both with menu items/names and layout. The green salsa was pretty good, but the red was almost marinara like- warm, very tomatoey and had no spice. The queso had great flavor and I really appreciated seeing peppers, cilantro and onions in there, but it had too much butter- it was very thin. There were five of us, and we each ordered something different. I tried some of everyone's plates, and nothing was great. The breading on my fish was a bit too overpowering of the snapper, the fajita chicken used in the chimichanga and the kids plates was pretty dry, and the ratio of cheese and sauce on the enchiladas was off and they weren't flavorful. The house frozen margarita was decent, but Abita on the sweet side for me. I wish they offered a skinny margarita option with how many other margarita options they offer. Overall, I rated it as a 3 because it's OK Mexican food, in an OK environment. Nothing really stood out as exceptional or something I liked enough to come back for. I left full but not satisfied. With La Finca being closer, and such a similar menu, we will likely just keep going to La Finca or Victor's in Fulshear for our Mexican fixes. read more

Just okay, and barely that. Went alone for lunch and it was nearly empty, yet service was unbelievably bad. Get chips - wait 10 minutes. Get drink - wait 10 minutes. Very nearly left right then. Food bland (bland Tex-Mex is tough to achieve); cheese tasted like melted Velveeta. Ask for check - 10 minutes. And on and on - a simple nacho lunch for one took an hour in a nearly empty restaurant. Our go-to Mexican food restaurant in the Katy/Fulshear area. Best margaritas around with a great variety to choose from (try the Cactus Berry or Blue Lagoon margaritas). Love their fresh tortillas and any dish with their beef fajita is a personal favorite (try the El Diez or the Fajitas La Neca). Really wanted to like this place as we recently moved here from San Antonio and are looking for decent Mexican food and it just wasn't. We had a pretty simple order of a few breakfast tacos and the order was messed up 3 times - not just a wrong topping but completely wrong and was very slow. At first brought one taco then another with literally just cheese in it for something that was suppose to be bean and cheese then they brought a beans and rice taco then just the ingredients of one of the tacos but in separate dishes. Flour tortillas were sub par they just seemed not fully cooked but also greasy. At this point we just asked for the check and he rang us up for every single dish that was totally wrong. I didn't even want to complain because we just wanted to get out of there. I wanted to try something new, so I came here yesterday for lunch. BIG mistake. Ordered the combination fajitas lunch special, and these were the worst fajitas I've ever had. Should have been suspicious when the food came out very quickly. My fajitas came out on a sizzling platter, except there was no smoke or sizzle. It tasted like the meat was microwaved, and both the steak and chicken were dry and overcooked. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but there are too many other Mexican restaurants in the area for me to give them another try.
