My wife and I went with another couple yesterday for Mother's Day. Late lunch so not crowded. I like the "mom n pop" restaurants. Especially Mexican restaurants that have family spins mixed into their recipes. So not the #4 with a puffy shell. My wife and I split the Taco's Tinga with a side of the exquisite street corn. The tacos were excellent. The chicken had been slow cooked for hours as it was ever tender. The street corn, which is off the cob, was outstanding. Certainly a shareable. The mezcal margaritas had a nice smokey smell and taste - just like mezcal should. Another had the beef torta. It was huge. Meat was very tender. It was a great meal. Will be back. read more

Can't believe I didn't post my review. I visit here while waiting to sale items to Plato's closet next door. At first glance the place was empty, and as some folks usually think, the place maybe not be the best around. I'm excited to share, Ferso's beat the negative thought. My visit to Ferso's was a very positive experience. The restaurant is located in a corner of small shopping strip weirdly a few steps away from a larger Tex Mex eatery. I was somewhat surprised by how very bright the lighting was in the dining room. Our server was soft spoken and friendly and patient while we sorted out the menu. They only serve beer and wine so cocktails lovers beware. I did try a wine based margarita which wasn't bad. The food was very good but surprisingly pricey for simple dishes. I really enjoyed the Carne Asada which was tender and flavorful. If I was a "local" for this neighborhood , I'd return to try them again. read more

My husband and I wanted a quiet, relaxing dinner. The moment we walked into Ferso's the music was the perfect volume, we were greeted and seated immediately. The fish taco's were fresh, crisp, and delicious. The portion was perfect for my husband who had skipped lunch. Meaning the portion was large enough to fill up a starving large man. My poblano dish was excellent, unique and authentic to me and just the right spice! The warmed corn tortillas seemed homemade. The pina colada was delicious. The wait staff was abundant and attentive, even the young man bussing the tables smiled and throughly cleaned every inch of the table, chairs and high chair across the way. The bathrooms were spotless as well. We were delighted by our experience and sad that we had not given this restaurant a try until today. This is the WORST queso I've ever had! I live 5 minutes away and opened the queso - it was all gelled together and the chorizo was unrecognizable! Nothing authentic about this place at all. And they are expensive! I truly wish I could give them a negative 10 rating! read more

Ambiance: bright, welcoming and clean. Spacious eating area with lots of seating options - small to larger tables and booths. Also has a large bar area as well. Service: super friendly and nice. Water refilled often and came to check on our table to bring things we needed. We came late in the evening and there were about three other families there with us. Parking was harder because of Texas Border's people, but overfill could go towards the Goldfish swim side. Food: We loved the flavors of the salsa and thickness and crisp of the chips. Would definitely recommend for this alone. They refill the chip bowl and salsa as often as you need it to be filled. I ordered the birria taco plate and my husband got thr enchiladas Verde. We also ordered the queso appetizer that came with three corn tortillas. The cheese was good, but was melted cheese on a hot plate that got super toasted on the bottom and coagulated fast. It may have been better if you added chorizo, but wasn't to our tastes. I have heard that a lot of people liked it, but we only ate it with the chips and I stuck some in my birria. The tacos were stuffed to the brim and were very flavorful. I liked it best with the consumme and felt that it would not be as good without that. The enchiladas weren't as hot as it could have been (but we like them burning hot to be all melty) and looked like it should have been more flavorful than it was. The beans were really good. I did not try to rice so I am not sure how they were. Overall, I do like the food, but would probably try something different next time. For the three items, our meal came to be around $60 before tip. They have pretty high reviews on the Katy Fort Bend food groups so we will give it another try and try some of the other foods. read more

This unassuming lil restaurant in the Katy Mall is by far the best. I hope they manage to stay open with this location. I feel like outside the mall they would be much busier and could offer better hours. That aside, loved this place. We ordered carne asada tacos, cochinita pibil tacos, and birria tacos with consume. Everything was perfect and bursting with flavor. Literally no complains. They have 4 or 5 different salsas you can order too that were all very good. What a find! This place has excellent food with a great atmosphere and awesome service. If you haven't tried you are missing out. It is tucked away in a small shopping center and looks very unassuming but once you go in the front door you can see the tastefully decorated and spotless restaurant. My husband had the special with 3 different cheese enchiladas that were beyond anything we had ever had. The Mole one was the best. They are made in house with 3 different kinds of cheese. It also came with a skirt steak that was so flavorful and tender. I had the fajita special with chicken and steak that was very tasty. Highly recommend you give them a try. No smile. No welcome. Nothing. Owner (?) stopped by table and shrugged, said, sorry, everyone came in at once. Place was not even half full. Had to ask for chips and salsa. Drinks (water and tea) had no ice. Food took over 30 minutes to come out. Enchiladas were very tasty but not very warm. Rice was slightly undercooked (grains were hard) and both rice and beans had a slight melted plastic taste, enough that I stopped eating them. No one ever came to ask us if we needed anything, refill our empty glasses, or bring our check. Finally waved same girl down and asked to pay. Happen to be at Katy Mills and my stomach was grumbling for some food. Not electing to get the usual mall food court food, I pulled up the Yelp app to see a Mexican restaurant within the mall with rave reviews across the board! Located near the AMC and Ross, Ferso's is definitely family ran and you can tell the food is cooked fresh! Customer service was excellent. The chips and salsa were excellent, the chips have a great crunch! For my meal I had the birria plate- great tasting and the dripping sauce was great! I wish it came with a small side of rice or beans - definitely would've put my meal over the top and my stomach fuller. I've been pretty disappointed by the Mexican cuisine in Katy but this place hits the spot! Don't let it being inside the mall deter you from trying it out. The service is great, and they provide a menu with pictures of the food for those less familiar with the cuisine. The menu gives you the option of a mixed taco plate, where you can choose three types (excluding fish and shrimp) and I think it's a great choice if you want to try a variety!
