This was a catered event, but I have been to the restaurant many times. It has a very lovely decor. It gives you the vibe of a fiesta at a good friend's home. Cozy, fun, and vibrant. As I said, what I am reviewing now is a catered event, so we weren't at the restaurant. The food was delivered and set up promptly. Opening the trays gave us a wonderful smell of fresh, delicious food! The fajitas never got tough or stringy, even as they cooled. They were in a wonderful broth that was not greasy, but full of flavor. The chips and salsa were so fresh! Even now, almost 4 days later, those chips are still crisp (we had a lot of leftovers to take home). Everyone wanted to know who catered and they all had something good to say about each portion of the meal. One loved the sour cream so much, he took home 2 quarts of it. We had several compliments and I wish I had grabbed a few of their business cards to give to people. The only downside wasn't really a downside for us. There was so much food! After selling plates to go, we still had leftover food. Everyone loved it and had plates to take home afterward. In my book, that's a huge success. Thank you all so much! read more

Amazing menudo!! Breakfast tacos taste just like my grandparents used to make what lovely atmosphere also music is not loud and just feels cozy. read more

Horrible service! I ordered the "chips and queso" to go, got no chips and when I called to tell them I got no chips they said it doesn't come with chips. I told her so chips and queso comes with no chips? She said no. Smh. read more

As a Mexican, this restaurant is not good at all. I orders a "Foot" long burrito (I am burrito enthusiast). Thing was like 8 inches. It had clumpy cheese and the lettuce tasted to straight up cold fridge. My wife, also Mexican, got a menudo, she LOVES menudo. She said it tasted sugary like someone added sugar to it. Menudo does not have sugar in it. Someone must confused the salt for the sugar. Customer service was mid. Lady was nice but couldn't take a hint that I needed a small bowl for my kid to share the menudo. Chips looked like they were straight from the bag. Green sauce was watered down. Red sauce tasted like store bought sauce. Restrooms were bad... water everywhere, no caution sign. Not good... I recommend going to "La Cocina Mexican Restaurant" that is down the road. They serve really great Mexican type food! read more

Food is fast, cheap and good. Service can be a bit slow, but otherwise it's a great lunch spot. I think they have breakfast all day!

Not sure if they were the owners or managers - they were SUPER NICE! Very unassuming restaurant but super happy we saw it and did a uturn! They have patio seating and the weather was PERFECT for this. They serve both green and red salsa - DELISH! Crispy tacos, rice, beans, tostadas, chalupas, queso, drinks - $40! The micheladas w Tecate - perfecto! If back in the area - definitely revisiting. read more

Went for breakfast and the maps said they opened up at 10 but when we went they were closed until 10:30.

Best Tex-mex food! Margaritas are good! The lunch was delicious! The gravy they served on the food is the best I've ever had. This is my new favorite spot! read more

Picked up an order of rice and beans real quick on the way home from work. Later saw they added a 40% tip. I called them and explained the issue, and that I still had my receipt from a few days ago. The man on the phone was real ugly and told me it was a personal problem.I've worked at restaurants before and would never treat a customer this way. I guess they really needed the money. read more

Menudo is AWESOME. The tortillas are great the entire menu is amazing but I love the menudo is my favorite.

Went again a couple of weeks ago, the menudo was spicy again. Service was not good. Sad to say think that was the last time. We will not go back anymore. I'll be letting all of my family members not to go either. We complained about the food and they did nothing to resolve the problem. read more

No. I had tried coming here several times and they serve food from the previous night. It is not fresh at all. I'm totally done.

Absolutely disgusting, we walked in and stood there for about 5-7 minutes wasn't busy but no waitresses were doing their job. Food tasted like it was from the day before and just warmed up. Waste of money honestly, the owner of this place took our order and was rushing us to order. read more

Great margaritas, great salsa, great way to start the week.... but dude. What is woth the smoking inside!?!? It totally ruins the entire meal. Margaritas are delicious and the queso flamiando (sp) is the best I've had... the smoking inside keeps me from going there more often read more

We had been hesitate to try this restaurant due to the bad reviews but we tried it yesterday and it was excellent! Their salsa and chips were great. I order the entomotadas and they were delish. They came with a side of beef fajita that were flavorful and tender. The rice and beans were great. Everything was fresh and delicious. I'd go again. This restaurant deserves a better review sure! read more

My stepdaughter accidentally left her easter egg money in the table and when we went back they claimed not to have seen it

I get breakfast tacos(which are pretty good) here sometimes but thats about it. Their food is average at best. They say they open at 6:30 but every time me I i have tried calling them on the way to work(6-7am) they have never been open. One time I ordered soup from them(Caldo de res) and they said they didn't have lids so they just put some plastic wrap on top. Yay, drive home one hand on the wheel, the other on the soup.I found that if you want something to go, call in first, wait 10-15 min before you leave to go pick it up. If you walk in and order food to go, they will take all day. The one in Rosenberg is better read more

Average Mexican restaurant. We came with a big group and they made a few little errors on our orders. Nothing major, the good thing is that if you ask for little things like pickles or sauce, they bring you a whole bunch. FYI they are hiring at his location if anybody needs a job. They have a lot of parking available. The chips and salsa are pretty good and free LOL read more

This isn't authentic Mexican food. I took my son and a friend. None of us liked our dishes. I had enchiladas with an order of flour tortillas. I didn't like the rice, beans, enchiladas, or tortillas. They were all meh. My son ordered breakfast and our friend ordered lunch. The prices were ok but it wasn't worth it. Service wasn't great either. I would not return. None us would. read more

This place is poorly run. As someone who worked in food for almost 10 years, we understand there's a standard that restaurants must be held to. 1. My boyfriend and I walk in to see the waitress sitting and eating. Understandable if she's on a break. We must all need to eat and have our break but never in a sit down restaurant have I seen staff out in the open eating. 2. She actually proceeded to wipe her hands with a towel and come serve us our drink order. After that she took our food order and went to sit back down and continue her meal. 3. Another server walked around the whole time with her mask under her chin, brought us our appetizer and everything, mask under her chin. She then joined our waitress at their table and ate. 4. Waitress got up from her meal to give us the check. Not coming back. Employees like this are a product of not having good management that sets standards. To top it off. They allow smoking inside and it stinks in there. read more

Buena Vista? More like Malo Vista! I have been to this restaurant twice and each time I had a terrible experience. The first time a went there were 2 other tables with people and it took 30 minutes to be helped. The second time which was today (Cinco De Mayo) I decided to give them another chance and stop in to get a margarita. After sitting at the bar waiting for 10 minutes and seeing no bartender I decided to ask the waiter if the bar was open. He assured me it was, so I figured surely someone would be there shortly to quench my Cinco De Mayo Margarita thirst. Sadly I was let down once again and after waiting another 5 minutes I decided to leave and write this post. With so many Mexican Restaurants in Texas Buena Vista needs to step up thier game. Adios Malo Vista! read more

There's a bar upfront so there's a cigarette smell, but hold your breath and pick a table because the food is yummy! It's tex-mex flavor with awesomely seasoned beef in the tacos. My rice and beans have been under seasoned once or twice, that's my only complaint. The red and green salsas are the best of the mexican restaurants in town. read more

Some of the best Tex Mex in the greater Houston area. Always the freshest ingredients, an amazing tomatillo Sauce, and a top notch horchata are just a few of the great things about this place. Add the fact that it's the best bang for your buck in East Texas ( my lady and I walk out with dinner for two for only 20$ on average) and you have date night covered. read more

Our first visit to Buena Vista was in March 2018; we had a great meal, and the whole family was very satisfied with the quality of the food. My wife and I recently decided to make a second road trip to Richmond (from Austin) specifically for Buena Vista's seafood soup. Yes, it was that good. I hate to say it, but this most recent visit was really disappointing. The seafood soup had about 1/3 the amount of content (fish, shrimp, octopus, crab, etc...) as last year. The kicker was the shrimp; it clearly was not fresh, and was way over cooked (tough and chewy). I've never heard of shrimp jerky, but that is what came to mind was we were eating it. On a positive note, the customer service was good on both occasions; the staff was friendly, and service was prompt. read more

The food at Buena Vista is good and the service is really great! The place is clean and the restrooms are nice. Everyone is very friendly and the place is Kid friendly. Lots of Parking! I've never gotten a BAD dish here, but ...if I am honest the food is better at the other location. read more

Stopped in to get four breakfast tacos to go. When I walked in, there was a gentleman in front of me who ordered 1 taco and a coffee to go. There was a table with two people that were having coffee. I placed my order and proceeded to wait 30 minutes for my simple breakfast tacos. I went up to the desk and asked to cancel my order. The guy runs to the back and was gone for 8-10 minutes. He comes out with my food!! The guy in front of me is still waiting for his coffee and 1 taco! This is the second and last time I will visit this place. Sad, because considering the location and being local, I would like to support, but I refuse to wait 40 minutes for a breakfast taco! read more

I started working across from this place a few months ago and have made several attempts to purchase breakfast from them. Online it states they open at 6:30am and I have seen a sign on their business that says the same thing. I walk over to the restaurant at 6:45am and the location is closed no one is there. The next time I attempt to call them before walking over however, no one answered the phone. So I again walk over there at 7am this time and again the place is closed and no one is there. Later that same day I call the restaurant and speak with a hostess to inquire at what time they actually open to which she said around 715am depending on when they wake up and get there. That to me is not how you run a business, if you have store hours then stick with them. Here I am again this morning trying to get breakfast and no one answers the phones and the location is closed and it is now 7:22am. I guess they couldn't wake up on time again. read more

Been going for the past few years. The food is pretty good, I like the monterrey chicken (I substitute the beans for fries at no extra charge) and my husband likes the mixed fajitas. Prices are also good and sometimes there are $3 margarita specials. Service is also usually pretty fast, which is great for weekends when everywhere else is packed! Only 2 problems 1. Sometimes it smells like smoke because the bar section let's people smoke cigarettes 2. Sometimes it takes a while for them to let you pay for the check. You have to come to the register and then wait for the owner to take care of you which sometimes takes a while even after ringing the bell. Worth a try! read more

Have lived in the Houston area for 3 years and have finally found a true authentic Mexican Restaurant or as close as "Home Food" (we're from the Valley, deep down south). Food is good, plenty of variety.. Place is clean. Ambient is nice and casual Service is bad and very unprofessional. Anytime you order anything from here over the phone, does not matter if there is a customer or several, they always take an additional 20 minutes from the time you arrive. So if you think you are getting a deal because it is close to your job, don't bother because they take long.. Manager will always say sorry, but seems to be careless on the customers time constraints or priorities. Breakfast, lunch, dinner; same story just different day.. Go down the street to any other place.. read more

No no no this place may have amazing food but when all I can smell and taste is cigarette smoke. I think not. They need to put in a fan to suck the smoke out or something so that it does not stink up the rest of the place. With over 80 choices you'll have a lot to go through before you order. The bar was packed while the dining room was empty. I don't understand why there are so many cars here some nights. it must be for the defensive driving class they provide. read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant.. Been coming to this place since I was in High School. We have now moved away & my mother still lives in Richmond- but when she asked me where I wanted to eat today, of course I said Buena Vista!!! As we were eating with our family of 10, I began to smell Cigarette Smoke! I asked the manager if they allowed this in the restaurant & he says yes in bar area. I was stunned. I thought every restaurant prohibited smoking indoors. My kids & nephews were with us & had never smelled smoke. Everyone left with a headache & our clothes STINKS! I will never return to the restaurant I used to love dearly... read more

This is a little hidden dive for authentic Mexican food. The chips, salsa, and green sauce are on point. The #34 chicken verde enchiladas are great!
