This was a catered event, but I have been to the restaurant many times. It has a very lovely decor. It gives you the vibe of a fiesta at a good friend's home. Cozy, fun, and vibrant. As I said, what I am reviewing now is a catered event, so we weren't at the restaurant. The food was delivered and set up promptly. Opening the trays gave us a wonderful smell of fresh, delicious food! The fajitas never got tough or stringy, even as they cooled. They were in a wonderful broth that was not greasy, but full of flavor. The chips and salsa were so fresh! Even now, almost 4 days later, those chips are still crisp (we had a lot of leftovers to take home). Everyone wanted to know who catered and they all had something good to say about each portion of the meal. One loved the sour cream so much, he took home 2 quarts of it. We had several compliments and I wish I had grabbed a few of their business cards to give to people. The only downside wasn't really a downside for us. There was so much food! As a Mexican, this restaurant is not good at all. I orders a "Foot" long burrito (I am burrito enthusiast). Thing was like 8 inches. It had clumpy cheese and the lettuce tasted to straight up cold fridge. My wife, also Mexican, got a menudo, she LOVES menudo. She said it tasted sugary like someone added sugar to it. Menudo does not have sugar in it. Someone must confused the salt for the sugar. Customer service was mid. Lady was nice but couldn't take a hint that I needed a small bowl for my kid to share the menudo. Chips looked like they were straight from the bag. Green sauce was watered down. Red sauce tasted like store bought sauce. Restrooms were bad... water everywhere, no caution sign. Not good... I recommend going to "La Cocina Mexican Restaurant" that is down the road. We had been hesitate to try this restaurant due to the bad reviews but we tried it yesterday and it was excellent! Their salsa and chips were great. I order the entomotadas and they were delish. I get breakfast tacos(which are pretty good) here sometimes but thats about it. Their food is average at best. They say they open at 6:30 but every time me I i have tried calling them on the way to work(6-7am) they have never been open. One time I ordered soup from them(Caldo de res) and they said they didn't have lids so they just put some plastic wrap on top. Yay, drive home one hand on the wheel, the other on the soup.I found that if you want something to go, call in first, wait 10-15 min before you leave to go pick it up. This isn't authentic Mexican food. I took my son and a friend. None of us liked our dishes. I had enchiladas with an order of flour tortillas. I didn't like the rice, beans, enchiladas, or tortillas. This place is poorly run. As someone who worked in food for almost 10 years, we understand there's a standard that restaurants must be held to. 1. My boyfriend and I walk in to see the waitress sitting and eating. Understandable if she's on a break. The first time a went there were 2 other tables with people and it took 30 minutes to be helped. The second time which was today (Cinco De Mayo) I decided to give them another chance and stop in to get a margarita. After sitting at the bar waiting for 10 minutes and seeing no bartender I decided to ask the waiter if the bar was open. He assured me it was, so I figured surely someone would be there shortly to quench my Cinco De Mayo Margarita thirst. There's a bar upfront so there's a cigarette smell, but hold your breath and pick a table because the food is yummy! It's tex-mex flavor with awesomely seasoned beef in the tacos. Our first visit to Buena Vista was in March 2018; we had a great meal, and the whole family was very satisfied with the quality of the food. My wife and I recently decided to make a second road trip to Richmond (from Austin) specifically for Buena Vista's seafood soup. Yes, it was that good. I hate to say it, but this most recent visit was really disappointing. The seafood soup had about 1/3 the amount of content (fish, shrimp, octopus, crab, etc...) as last year. The kicker was the shrimp; it clearly was not fresh, and was way over cooked (tough and chewy). I've never heard of shrimp jerky, but that is what came to mind was we were eating it. On a positive note, the customer service was good on both occasions; the staff was friendly, and service was prompt. read more

Stopped in to get four breakfast tacos to go. When I walked in, there was a gentleman in front of me who ordered 1 taco and a coffee to go. There was a table with two people that were having coffee. I placed my order and proceeded to wait 30 minutes for my simple breakfast tacos. I went up to the desk and asked to cancel my order. The guy runs to the back and was gone for 8-10 minutes. He comes out with my food!! The guy in front of me is still waiting for his coffee and 1 taco! This is the second and last time I will visit this place. I started working across from this place a few months ago and have made several attempts to purchase breakfast from them. Online it states they open at 6:30am and I have seen a sign on their business that says the same thing. I walk over to the restaurant at 6:45am and the location is closed no one is there. The next time I attempt to call them before walking over however, no one answered the phone. So I again walk over there at 7am this time and again the place is closed and no one is there. Later that same day I call the restaurant and speak with a hostess to inquire at what time they actually open to which she said around 715am depending on when they wake up and get there. That to me is not how you run a business, if you have store hours then stick with them. Been going for the past few years. The food is pretty good, I like the monterrey chicken (I substitute the beans for fries at no extra charge) and my husband likes the mixed fajitas. Prices are also good and sometimes there are $3 margarita specials. Service is also usually pretty fast, which is great for weekends when everywhere else is packed! Only 2 problems 1. Sometimes it smells like smoke because the bar section let's people smoke cigarettes 2. Sometimes it takes a while for them to let you pay for the check. This is a little hidden dive for authentic Mexican food. The chips, salsa, and green sauce are on point. The #34 chicken verde enchiladas are great! The tacos are crispy, and the #54 beef enchiladas are never greasy. My employee was skeptical when we rolled in, but left with a happy tummy.
