What can I say? This place has the most excellent Mexican/Tex-Mex food. Didn't have a single bad dish. Enchiladas fajitas were flavorful. So was the beef burrito. Even the chicken enchiladas was seasoned nicely. I know sometimes people tend to overlook the sides that are served. I can say the rice and refried beans were tasty. Standard fare in what you find on the menus of similar restaurants but the cooks here know how to flavor the foods. I love the atmosphere because you can see how everyone is enjoying themselves and the entrees are great. Pricing is pretty good too. They also make some nice, strong Margaritas! Made a visit this afternoon to a nearby establishment close to Ray's and noticed the fajitas smell wafting from the restaurant too enticing to ignore! So we paid Ray's a visit to investigate. Last visit to this place, it was called Tony's so it was nice to go back and see if it has improved. Lots of tables with a few booths, able to accommodate a big crowd. Immediate service and we were seated. Air conditioning was very comfortable- important today as it was 98 outside. The menu is quite large with standard Tex-Mex and a few twists, they serve breakfast apparently as well. Prices seemed reasonable and good descriptions of menu items. We ordered beef fajitas for two.. as you can see from the picture, ample servings. Charro beans were substituted for the refried and we had corn tortillas. The fajitas were a tad dry but not very and the taste was good B+ with grilled onions and peppers. Plenty of beef. The beans were decent as was the rice. Pico de Gallo was a bit mushy but the guacamole was fresh. The tortillas were fresh soft and tasty but manufactured not home style. With two iced teas came to $31 sans tax and tip. A good value. What stands out the most was excellent and attentive service! Fast, friendly and accommodating. I eased from a three to four star on this basis. I would like to see this restaurant with a new layout and improved quality on some of the details i mentioned above. Next visit i am having a margarita or two! Overall I would recommend this restaurant to Mason road Tex-Mex fans. read more

We had never been here before today, and unfortunately, we won't be returning. I was surprised since the place was pretty busy. It was clean and cozy. I ordered the fajitas which were overcooked, dry, and bland. Tortillas were also overcooked, almost crispy. My husband had the fajita beef enchiladas, which he says were "okay", but the meat was also overcooked. Servers were attentive and pleasant. The place is very clean, the servers were very friendly, and the food was very good. I had the Gratinada, and my wife had the pork ribs. My wife loved her beef enchiladas, I got to enjoy part of one of them, we shared a strong and tasty frozen mango margarita, I chowed down on some tender cooked just right beef fajitas....the La San Miguel plate. Our server Miguel did an amazing job showing us the ropes and we felt right at home. We ate there the first time last night. The staff is incredibly friendly and super accommodating. It feels like a family place. My particular item was really delicious, so I can't vouch for everything. But fajitas, refried beans, guacamole, chips, and tortillas were great. Price point was also good. We liked the salsa but didn't want to eat it on chips alone since it was a tad hot, but we ate it on the food mixed in with other stuff. It isn't the absolute best Mexican I've ever had, but for the price and accessibility and family vibe, I give it five stars. It reminds me a bit of Tony's in the Heights, but I liked Ray's better. read more

Rays previously Tony's has to be the BEST Mexican food I have had since moving to Texas...hands down! I am originally from California and we have really authentic Mexican food In Cali but not only is Ray's food quality amazing, the customer service, and price are as well! The lunch menu is the !! You get generous portions of food for less than $10! The spinach enchiladas are my fav and they come with rice and beans. It will seem as your TIA or Abuela just cooked you up some food! I have not tried their margaritas, but at almost every table someone has a Margarita..this place is packed from opening to closing daily! The parking lot is shared with other stores in the strip so parking can be tight but I always find a place to park. The average wait for dinner, if applicable is 15 minutes! Everything is bigger in Texas! Portions are unbelievably large here. Came here with a party of 12. Our servers were very attentive, making sure our drinks were refilled and our margaritas reordered promptly. They claim to have the best margaritas in Katy, Texas. I'll agree to that! The food here is also delicious and what Mexican food should taste like. The chips here taste like they are made fresh daily, and the salsa is fresh with the right amount of heat. I love coming here and always have for the past 7 years. Their food is amazing, always come out quick and super hot! Best dishes by far are the Tampiquena and Green Chili Enchiladas. I would stay away from the Queso though, it's straight up Velveeta. But I am really appalled by the customer service we received yesterday. After eating our dinner, my friend and I were catching up and talking. As the server cleared our dirty dishes, he asked if we needed or wanted anything else, we politely said no and he went on to say "well we have people waiting." My friend and I just look at each other got our stuff and left. As we were leaving we only saw ONE family waiting and I am sure we weren't the only people finished with our meal at that time. I've driven by the shopping center and seen the big, bright yellow sign, but never stopped in. Met up with some friends looking for a good margarita. The restaurant is tucked away in the back corner of the shopping center. The décor from the outside of the building to the inside is great authentic Mexican. We were seated and the server delivered chips and salsa to the table. We ordered some queso, which was good. Of course, a round of margaritas were brought to the table. Always on the rocks...don't dilute my marg with ice. The margs were practically clear --- strong and tasty. We ordered a diverse set of entrees and most were pleased with their dish. The shrimp enchiladas looked excellent, but I have no idea how they tasted. The person who ordered the shrimp enchiladas had no intention of letting her plate out of her hands. In fact, I'm not even sure she took a breath while eating...you know who you are... I ordered the carnitas plate. It was a basic plate, but that's exactly how it should be served, beans/rice, carnitas, onion, and cilantro. Very good. To be fair, I had no intentions of sharing mine either. Sooooo, shrimp enchilada girl --- we are even. The next dish was the bacon wrapped shrimp with jalapeño. This dish looked fantastic and was given two thumbs up. The most intriguing order was the deep fried avocados stuffed with chicken fajitas. The plate is huge served with two huge avocados and your typical Mexican toppings. It looked so good. The review came back a little mixed. The avocado and the chicken fajita filling was very good, but the deep fried exterior was a little too much. We had a great time and will come back to try more items on the menu. Maybe next time, we will have the server split the plates in the kitchen before they get to the table. Rebranded to Roy's Mexican restaurant. This place is very delicious. The food is pretty authentic. We arrived and seated immediately by a friendly waiter. The salsa is spicy just the way I like it and the queso has a good flavor. I ordered the quesadillas and enchiladas suzias. A bit pricy but worth it. Daughter Newly moved into the area, so we gave this a try. I had armando's special (taco al carbon and cheese enchiladas) the meat was cut so small it all timbered out of the tortilla, it was tasty but not extraordinarily so? And the cheese enchilada was good. Husband had tampiquena, and he said it was ok. Next dish was a ginormous burrito. She liked it. Next up, was the tortilla soup. Declared it was his favorite tortilla soup ever, and took leftover enough for a whole lunch bowl size. Dino shaped nuggets were the last plate ordered, and they were a bit over cooked. The food here is just OK. I've definitely had better. I ordered food here to be delivered, and it all came quickly and was nice and hot, but the quality was just meh. I ordered Horchata, Chips and Ray's dip, Cheese Enchiladas with rice and beans, and a Tres Leches. The horchata was very grainy and unpleasant. It was very sweet but it had very little other flavor profiles other than SWEET, which surprises me because of the amount of cinnamon that came up my straw when I tried it. It unfortunately was one of my least favorite horchatas I have had, and I really wanted to like it because I love horchata and was craving one tonight. The queso was pretty good, although I did order the option of queso and taco meat and just received queso and no meat. The cheese enchiladas I had were okay, and the beans and rice were a little bland but okay. They honestly tasted just like a microwaveable kind I can get from H-E-B. I would've really enjoyed the tres leches cake more if it didn't have this overpowering chocolate syrup drizzled over it, I personally think it could've done without the chocolate. The portion sizes are perfect, customizing your order is super easy, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable considering how much inflation is right now. I got the Chalupa Contodo. It should be meat, beans and tomatoes with cheese and served with sour cream and guac. Their idea of a Chalupa was a tostado that was soggy in the middle, so thin it broke when you tried to pick it up. It had a smear of meat, no beans. a few pieces of tomatoes a few sprinkles of cheese and about a half a head of shredded lettuce . The lettuce was hard and white like the butt of the head. You get 2 of them. Not even a half teaspoon of sour cream and almost teaspoon of guac. Not edidble. If you want a Chalupa go to Taco Bell !!!!! read more
