It's all my boy and i order, ALWAYS. If their food is good outside of this, i wouldn't know. That's how good it is. Was a good meal to say the least. Nice flavors but just not the authentic Mex food I was looking for. Chips, Good Salsa with Creamy AvoSauce too. Taquitos needed to be fried and not baked. Gorilla Peppers were good but pulled pork needed some smoked flavor. MexiRolls were the best part along with the chicken nachos. Disappointed in the RibEye Street Tacos since they didn't have flavor. Disappointing Experience - Not the Restaurant It Used to Be We used to love Jimmy Changa's, but after our most recent visit, we won't be back anytime soon. We had a party of seven and were given two separate tables that weren't even close to each other. When we asked to have them combined, we were told they were "near each other," which they weren't, and that they couldn't be moved. Service was frustratingly slow. We had to ask multiple times for our food, and even then, it didn't all come out together. I had already finished my meal before my son's food even arrived--only after I went to the manager to ask about it. My daughter's food was cold, and simple things like chip refills weren't happening. The staff overall didn't seem happy to be there, and at one point, I even saw a waitress roll her eyes. To top it off, dinner took much longer than it should have, and when we were ready to leave, our waiter was nowhere to be found. We had to wait far too long just to get the check. Last night we celebrated a 70 year birthday and enjoyed the room we were sat in. The restaurant was busy for a Thursday night but there was no wait to get into the room for setup. The server was great. We all gathered in the back room mingling and he took everyone's drink orders and delivered them to the table once we were seated. The rare 5 star makes an appearance. Ive been coming here on and off for years. It's not convenient for me but man will I continue to drive out of my way to eat here. It's a chain. And the ambiance is another level. Their concept is a Mexican (Tex-Mex) restaurant, but they paid attention to the details and did a great job of not appropriating or insulting the Mexican culture. I'm a Gringos type of girl but when I found out this was their sister location, had to try it. They have my Gringo's favorite, Marisco Bowl which I got and added fajita chicken. It was great. One of my diners got the Marisco bowl without the cheese and said it was so good. The southwest egg rolls were good and between the queso and the cilantro sauce, cilantro sauce me please for the egg rolls. The house margarita didn't seem like it was hitting but...yeah. You will feel it. We sat outdoors and with a few kids in the party, the outdoor kids gym was great for them. Houston is real hot and at 6pm tonight it was still 100. I was highly impressed with our first visit here. We came out to celebrate my birthday. The adult beverages were tasty and strong. The server was very attentive and checked in every now and then to ensure we were doing alright. (Photos attached from first visit) Our second visit how ever was not as pleasant. Our server was taken aback by our questions of the menu asking if it was our first time there. Then proceeded to not return to the table until we needed the check. I wouldn't consider this a fantastic place, things seems to be pretty cheap.. we got cold and stale chips.. by the time we got warm ones, the queso was cold for 7.99 for a small.. I was tired of complaining so I just ate. The shrimp tacos were undercooked but I did enjoy how the wrapped them in foil!! I ordered the shrimp fajitas so avoid the undercooked cheap shrimp but they didn't offer the guacamole and the pico as the menu said along with the other beef and chicken fajitas which was wierd.. so I opted out for the tacos. Wife had a beef taco salad their ground beef is made with potatoes and their beef plus spices. I had a ground beef burrito which uses the same ground beef. We've drove by this place everyday for months and finally decided to give it a try. The food is excellent!!! My daughter ordered the chimichunga, meat and queso sauce was delicious. My wife ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas, this dish was amazing. Steak was very juicy and tender while the shrimp were seasoned perfectly. This was our first time for my whole family to try Jimmy Changas out. Our wait time for a a Saturday was 30 to 40 minutes but it was so worth the wait. With 7 people in our party we were seat in the back of the restaurant with our waitress Sophia. She was a really great waitress and started by helping us take a family picture with my phone. She next got our drink orders and got a appetizer of cheese dip for our chips and more of the green sauce that we all loved. Sophia explained the new item on the menu and 4 of us got the special. Everyone really enjoyed the choices for food. Sophia gave us great service, we never wanted for anything, drinks were always full and her quick wit was a real joy. I sat outside so my son could play. Best part? Enjoying a margarita in peace while all the kids burned their energy out. Might be my new regular place. All the seating is shaded and they have fans.
