Anyhoo, he also brought me a glass of water. I order the stuffed avocados and they were huge! Paired with grilled veggies of mushrooms, peppers, onions, carrots and zucchini. Also came with two sauces and a side of queso. I could only eat one avocado. What a wonderful waiter I had. He checked on me and thanked me several times. This review is specifically for the location adjacent to Katy Mills Mall in Katy, Tx. It has been about a year or two since I ate at this Los Cucos location. The menu's prices have increased significantly, but the food was on par with respect to previous meals eaten here. What was not good tonight was the service. Our waiter was literally absent or better yet absent-minded. We had to request silverware, which was never delivered. I finally got up and gathered some from a nearby wait station. There were no water refills, no salsa refills, no tortillas brought with our fajita meals. When we did ask for these items, it took a long time for the waiter to facilitate our request and several times he forgot, but remembered to do the task again when he came by our table, which was very infrequent. He may have had 3-4 tables in his section. I do not feel like he was getting "slammed". Another server brought his food trays, and a bus boy cleared our dishes, so all he needed to do was wait on his clients, us. Another thing that was a bummer on this visit, was the environment. Tables were uncleared and food was observed on the floor, even our table felt like it had been cleaned with a greasy washcloth. Maybe it was just a bad night, maybe the restaurant was just understaffed. Pretty solid Tex Mex. Started with the chips and queso which I thought their queso was just alright, a little too artificial tasting. The enchiladas here though were so good. Got the enchiladas verdes which had chicken inside and mmmmm that green sauce is divine. The beans were super super good too I love when the beans are THIS dark in color. Also got a frozen blackberry margarita and this might be one of my favorite margaritas ive ever had. I wish the blackberry was more mixed in and not a liquid poured over a standard frozen marg but it still tasted sooooo good so I won't complain. read more

Even though the food was delicious. The waiter we got was not good. Several times we waited for him to come over so we just waited there sitting like we were lost and forgotten. Some times we asked for drinks,again only to wait yet again and for him to come back mins later and ask us what we ordered so that took extra time to get drinks.wh8ch still came out wrong but I wasn't sending the drinks back cus I was just tired of waiting. Warning: Questionable Billing Practices & Managerial Failure Restaurant: Los Cucos Katy Mills Date Visited: November 5th Rating: 1/5 Stars (Avoid) We came to Los Cucos expecting a pleasant meal, but left deeply concerned about the management's integrity and highly frustrated by the service. While slow service can often be forgiven if the food is excellent, nothing excuses the sheer unprofessionalism and, frankly, the shady billing practices we experienced. The issues began simply enough: our waiter was pushy, arrogant, and slow. When we finally flagged down our waiter for the check, the real problems started. It took over 10 minutes for him to bring our checks. The printed checks showed a total, we handed him our credit cards, and he left for what felt like 20 minutes. I let him know I was in a rush and needed to pick up my daughter from an activity. When he arrived and handed us the checks to sign, the amounts were no where near the amounts on the original checks. The meals and drinks were mixed up, when they were originally correct. The waiter took the slips to who I presume was the manager. This immediately escalated the situation. They stood there for many, many minutes trying to figure out the receipts. The manager handled the complaint with an air of annoyance, not apology. After nearly 10 minutes of watching the manager fumble with the machine and paperwork, the final result was unacceptable: we still ended up being charged a different total than the original check and are hoping we were refunded the mixed up amounts. Worse than the financial annoyance was the attitude. At no point--not from the waiter, and certainly, not from the manager--did we receive a any sort of apology for the trouble, the massive inconvenience, or the failure to correct the bill in a timely fashion. This isn't just a review about slow service; it's a serious warning about dishonest financial practices. If you choose to eat here, meticulously check every charge and every receipt. I cannot recommend this establishment. Save yourself the headache and the risk of being overcharged. read more

I have been going here for years and can't believe I never reviewed them. Probably because it is my go to place for Mexican food and when the plate comes I am digging in. The servers are always quick and the food is hot, fresh and delicious. They also have some very unique margaritas that are delicious. Surprisingly, the seafood is also very good here as well. Never received chips or salsa or the second drink I ordered. I hated the first drink the coconut mojito tasted like a pina colada on the rocks ( very gross) maybe table service is better but the bartenders only wanted to make service well tickets not take care of guests which is wild to me but everyone has their days and this day it was both of the bartenders lucky me But I got the fried avocado which 100% recommend so good and cheesy and full of chicken just don't sit at the bar. read more

Althought lately the attitude of some waiters there not so nice/ attentive, waiters enter restroom with their aprons, spray desinfectant openly on tables (if sitting on the middle of the foyer youll most likely get the sprinkle for the cleaning solution onto your food) when it should be prayed unto a towel to wipe down. read more

The restaurant had a lively atmosphere and they seated us quick. Service following this was was really, really slow. It took 20+ minutes to get our ticket to pay, even with the waitress standing by the wall or walking passed us several times. It was during a weekday, not during peak hours at all. Lots of empty tables. Food was good. We ordered beef fajitas. They were delicious. Salsa was good. Chips were good and weren't stale. Tortillas and all the fixings were good. This place needs Gordon Ramsay and the worst way! First one of the Cardinals rules about eating at a restaurant is you normally wait until everyone has their food? That is correct, at this restaurant our daughter who just graduated from college got her food first 21 minutes later my wife and I got our food? Our daughter was kind enough to wait even though we urged her to eat. She said it was just awkward and rude for her to do that! Let me just say that I know they make their own MOLIA, I'm probably not spelling that right and just like the MOLIA that was served to us. I'm not gonna take the time to do it correctly. But we know they make their own MOLIA because it taste like milk chocolate and MOLIA has chocolate in it. The tamale gravy has a very strong cinnamon flavor to it, and oddly enough my daughter got the same plate of food. I did an in comparison my tamales were so spicy they could barely be eaten and my daughters were so sweet. They were off pudding. My wife got three tacos flour that were not cooked. In fact they were cold with pulled pork that tasted like sweet barbecue sauce. Her food was in edible. Let's compare plates with my daughter and I got the same plate the EL Ray, I got about a quarter cup of rice. My daughter got about a half a cup of rice. I got about 5 tablespoons of refried beans. My daughter got about a half a cup of refried beans. Portions are all over the map, but let's just talk about taste, which was odd the cheese and the cheese enchiladas was not Mexican cheese, wasn't American cheese is it Velveeta taste like Velveeta when is Velveeta a Mexican cheese? Rice was dry and refried beans were chalky and white and tasted like milk chocolate from the bad homemade MOLIA sauce. Our waiter was servicing a party table and we're guessing he at some point during the Bill got picked up and was in the witness protection program Because we never saw him again. One bowl of custom chips ran out within the first 5 to 10 minutes between the three of us and the order took 38 minutes to get to us. It was late. That's to say my daughter is probably got hers in a reasonable amount of time but my wife and I had to wait 38 minutes to get to ours. The people that were busting tables spoke English so fortunately I speak Spanish and was able to ask for our check in Spanish. It's a shame because our server was gone and the only people that could help with the tables where the people that were cleaning up. This location had a birthday party in the room we were in which probably deserved to be in the room alone The only way you could hear yourself speaking to someone else was to either do it in American Sign Language write the question or comment on a napkin and pass it over or yell. No one ever came to calm down the birthday party which consisted of about 11 people. My wife Had a cocktail with blackberries in it that tasted like a sweet syrup overly strong drink that was concocted by a five-year-old. We often times go here just to be disenchanted when we get there because Gringos is an hour to an hour and a half wait. In the area we live there simply no excuse for having a restaurant still being in business that carries bad service and offers bad food! The only thing I can think of is the anchor restaurant located in old Katy must carry the bill? In other words one really great location is keeping one crappy location in business. I've said this multiple times whenever referencing this restaurant that we will simply not be back again, this time I believe I mean it, and we will not be back again. Doesn't matter how many phone calls you make her bad reviews you leave the service and the quality of the food never gets better as a matter fact over the past five years it's actually gotten worse. The bathrooms are an ongoing science experiment that just continue to be absolutely filthy in the restaurant inside and outside is in disrepair. I'm not too sure what the health department has offered. As far as a grade. I can't imagine being very high. I think that's it. Hopefully this will do the damage that needs to be done to get the failures corrected or have the establishment closed down. We deserve better in our community. This restaurant is a disrespect that doesn't need to be tolerated doesn't need your patronage. You're not valued or respected. I don't know why people continue to go there. read more

This was my family's go to for Tex-Mex food for many years. This one at Katy Mills mall and the other in Old Katy. Only 24 years worth. That's all. We tried to visit this past Saturday night after I had gotten off work late. My wife and daughter had our grandson who had all waited for a late dinner. They verified online for the closing time because our 2 yr old grandson said he wanted rice. (Their rice and beans actually). At 10:13pm, we are told "We are closed". We of course replied, we checked online. "It's wrong, we are closed". Grandson is now mad and crying at us as we walk out seeing other customers looking at menus. My daughter tries to call to speak to a manager a few minutes later to question this and it was the manager who had sent us away. My daughter then sends them an email because she and my wife were unsatisfied by how it was handled. Crying and fussing baby fueling it all. Her email is then blocked 2 minutes later. She resends with another email and that one is blocked. It all seems wild to us and has changed our future choice. This place is what I've been looking for on the Mexican side of food in town since I moved. The service was great and authentic and the food incredible. The tortillas are the best there are and the meat has incomparable flavors. I always say that to find a place with great food you have to go in the middle of the week to see their quality then and maybe over the weekend to compare. I did visit during the week and did not disappoint. Highly recommend it and you should stop by for any of their designer grilled fajitas or Mexican bowls. read more

We were in Katy to visit relatives. At 7:00PM on a Wednesday night we decided to go somewhere for a margarita and an appetizer. We drove by Loc Cucos near our hotel and decided to try it. It was the best Mexican restaurant we've been to. We had Beef Fajita Nachos and Original Chile Con Queso. They were served with complementary chips, salsa and guacamole. The salsa was served hot. I've never had hot salsa before and we loved it. Both appetizers were fantastic. To make the evening even better, the server was extremely nice. We'll go back there the next time we're in Katy. read more

This is for the one located near Springhill Suites in Katy. YUCK! I would start off usually with some "pros" except this poor excuse for a restaurant had none. Party of ten here on a work trip. Virtually no one else in the facility at 6:30 P.M. A single middle-aged male server who spoke unintelligible English (and who did not appreciate my fairly fluent Spanish), apparently. "Lopez", but you can never be sure if they are just using some random name tag. 20 minutes to get a few pitchers of beer and some water. Chips and salsa/creamy guacamole (which actually was tasty). AGAIN, just a single waitstaff person...while I observed four or five others just lounging around. Tasteless food (I attempted to have beef fajitas). Served on way too large plates making arranging dishes for this party almost impossible. I got served last (probably as I offended Senor Lopez); so the first people were finished eating when my plate arrived. Not one time did Lopez ask if I wanted more water. Several in my party remarked that Lopez seemed unhappy when there were not more hard liquor orders (Dude! It's a Tuesday night during a work week!) Lopez did not return until the time to pass around receipts. Didn't ask us about desserts, etc. Did not respond to my questions about military / senior / AARP discount (if any). I left NO TIP - which is highly unusual for me. So, you understand why I am not returning and why I don't recommend this sterile venue, sour-faced staff and "no este authentico" Tex or Mex food. read more
