The chicken fajitas for two was enough to feed my husband, me, and our two little boys. The tortillas were sooo good! The queso was decent. It's pretty expensive for the portion that you get. I thought the fajitas were alright as well. It was good, but I still wanted to dip it into something. I believe that a good fajita doesn't require any extra sauce. haha We also got the sopapillas for dessert and it was alright as well. Overall, I would rate the food as a 3.5 or 4 out of 5. However, the main reason why I gave a 5 star is because we had an AMAZING waitress. Her name is Sarah and LET - ME - TELL - YOU -ABOUT - HER. Sarah was literally smiling and cheery the ENTIRE time. She was not only like that when she was serving us, but she was even walking around like that. She was polite, friendly, patient, respectful, and just a delight to interact with. Joined a friend for taco Tuesday. I was greeted by the hostess when I arrived and opted to sit at the bar. I ordered a house margarita and the steak tacos with black beans and rice. My colleague ordered the chicken and steak fajitas. All the food came out hot and fresh, well seasoned. The bartenders were attentive and polite. Gringo's just does Tex Mex RIGHT. Everything hits the spot for me like the food, the service, the vibe inside. I love love love it here sm. Free chips and salsa to start off which are fire. Red salsa has a nice kick and the green crema is actual crack. Gotta ask for 2 right off the bat because mmmmm. Also got their queso which is pretty good, not gonna complain there. For the main I got the Zapata plate which comes with a few things. First they bring out a crunchy beef taco and a "queso chip" which is a large chip with some queso spread on it which I find is good to use as a clean up for what falls out of the taco while you eat that first. Taco is pretty standard but they do not skimp on the meat which is nice. Then comes the cheese enchiladas with mexican rice and refried beans. Flavor this good should not be allowed because WOWWWW this is too good... It's not a proper tex mex meal if you don't get an XXL margarita likeeee... I got the star spangled rita which is frozen and gets you three flavors and boy are these STRONG. So good too you don't feel it while drinking it until BAM. Last but not least is the FREE SOFT SERVE by the exit. YEAHHHHH. Whoever came up with that may your pillow be nice and cold for eternity because thats genius. Went and had Gringos today, since it has been a minute that we been there. I had the beef fajita bowl w/a side of avocado. The bowl was actually pretty good. Only complaint would be the amount of beef in the bowl, it was a little lean on the beef. Also, the flour tortillas were stuck together and a little chewy. Went to Gringos with a big group yesterday, it was lively and the service by Alyssa was as quick and effective as possible, she was friendly and helpful. They were even able to accommodate us an hour earlier than our reservation. The biggest bummer was that we were spread out across three tables and weren't all able to be together, they unfortunately don't have a party room, but that being said, everyone was amazing and they did have us seated close. We had some queso, chips and salsa and a sample platter to start, everything was pretty good. The guacamole is a highlight for me, well seasoned and chunky. Just avocado and seasoning, so it's very simple. The highlight was the Pacifico shrimp, briochette shrimp with jalapeno wrapped in bacon on a bed of sizzling fajita vegetables. It came with tortillas of my choice and rice and beans but I didn't need them. The flavor of the shrimp was awesome, though the jalapeños had no spice, unfortunately. The Amazon sauce with that dish is a must! I also ordered the poblano cream sauce thinking it was the Amazon sauce, which she forgot to bring me more of, and I wound up eating the poblano cream sauce like a soup. Absolutely delicious, reminded me of my poblano cheddar white chicken chili - without the cheddar. All in all, everything was delicious with large portions. Why you ask...well they don't have much to pick from that does not have tomatoes or jalapeños. We have been eating here since it opened. Last night we had the worst service we have ever had. The food was good but we had to get the manager involved to receive our order. We order a salad and 2 tacos for 2 people, yet everyone around use received their food first even though we were there first. We did find out later that our server had only been there 1 week. My husband and I are Tex-mex fanatics and we agreed that the Gringos Katy location is absolutely going to be our new go-to Mexican spot in the area. We recently moved from the Galleria area to Fulshear and have tried no less than 7-8 Mexican restaurants in the area. Gringos Katy definitely takes the cake for overall experience, service, food quality and taste. The restaurant layout and vibe was also cozy despite being a quite busy Sunday evening. You also can't beat the value - it's one of the few reasonably priced restaurants where you can be sure to get the right quality for your money. This has happened to me twice. I sit at the bar, order a drink, receive chips/salsa, and after 20-30 minutes leave because bartenders never come back to ask me for a dinner order. The bartenders see me looking at the menu, look at me, but never ask for a dinner order nor whether I want another drink. I leave cash to cover the drink. Horrible service.
