I stopped in for a late weekday lunch. My server Jasmine was friendly and provided just the right amount of attention. The Watermelon 'Rita is refreshing, and was served garnished with a huge slice of fresh watermelon. The bottom half of my tortilla chip basket was mostly just broken pieces of chip. The Bean Tostada that was part of the Rosita platter, was topped with tons of crispy fresh veggies. I honestly could've eaten just two of those for lunch and would've been fine. If you're a cheese lover, you'll enjoy the Cheese enchiladas in the Rosita too. Instead of being covered in traditional Tex-Mex chili gravy; it's just cheese on cheese on cheese. Gross, gross, gross. I wouldn't wish this food on my worse enemy. The chicken enchiladas tasted like plastic. The tamales that we ordered were no bigger than two fingers put together and semi burnt. The rice was crunchy and clearly straight from the bottom of the barrel. Chips and salsa were stale. The ONLY thing that seemed fresh was the black beans. By far the worst experience from a waiter that I've had ever and I've been a waitress for over a decade now. Chloie was far from professional and extremely condescending. lol are you ok? The lighting of the place was good because we saw the specks in and on our dirty water cups. The crowd looked like a bunch of people who don't have access to yelp because otherwise I don't think they would have been there. Arrived around 8:40, checked in online which said we were about number 40 on the list so we waited in the car, around 9:15 when it said we were number 14 I decided to go inside and ask about how long, when I was told that we were suppose to come in and tell them we are here when we arrive so they can seat us, never have I been told that all the times we have come here. Celebrating a friend's bday and someone in the booth behind us was vaping. A clear sign on the restaurants door, photo below said vaping free environment. Friend asked server if vaping was allowed. He did not respond. The smoke and order was unpleasant so I went up to the hostess desk and said the person behind us is vaping. Is that allowed. She just looked down and didn't answer. I asked if we could move and she pointed to where we could move our food. We never saw the waiter again. He put the check in front of me without saying a word. We were kind throughout the process, they were not. And for that reason we will not be back. Why post a sign on the entrance? Came on a Wednesday night and the place was pretty packed! Got seated almost immediately. I loved the dips they had for the chips. Service with the curbside pickup was disorganized and very slow. I waited 30 minutes past the designated pickup time. I'm not sure I would have ever received the food if I hadn't stopped the delivery person. Food was somewhat cool because it had sat so long. However, the family chicken fajitas were still real good. We love Gringo's! This location is a newer one just built 2-3 years ago and we have been enjoying since it opened. Large parking lot, but it's so busy at peak times it can still be hard to find parking, but as all the lots are connected, you'll still find a spot. I recommend joining the waitlist for a table, as they do not do reservations, but I've never waited long when joining the waitlist. Service is very good as well even in busier times, and the food and drinks are always outstanding. Portion sizes are huge too, so my husband and I usually start off with our favorite appetizers (Cantina Nachos and Southwest Egg Rolls), then see if we're still hungry, and more than not we aren't. We arrived with a party of 7 and we were quickly seated. We had the marisco bowl (1 with shrimp and 1 with shrimp and crawfish), the chicken fajitas, the Cabo salad, and two enchilada meals. The salad was nicely portioned so I took it home (and ate it 10 minutes after leaving lol). The food is very tex-mex which was different for my party, but we enjoyed it. For drinks, we had the mango margarita, two cadilac margs, and a margarita with sparkling wine. All of them were delicious! I really liked the atmosphere! So we made a reservation for a surprise party for 7:00pm two weeks ahead of time and they confirmed, approved and told us over the phone it was all good. We got to the restaurant all 11 of us and they said we had to wait until the next party gets up. We waited and waited to the point where we were still waiting at 8pm...so an hour later until I went back up and asked again. They said they couldn't do anything since the other table was still seated and even paid already. We got in at 8:10 fortunately but it was still unbelievable on how long it was of a wait while already having reservations. I called and asked as well outside and they said "we don't do reservations just a wait list" that confirmed everything for me and made the plans we had as a party very irate for us. Lastly, we went to the table and came with 11 and they made a whole separate table for our party so half of us were not even together at one table. We are soooo happy to have Gringos in Katy! We've been twice since they opened and during our second visit we dined in. Gringos is taking precautions to ensure safety due to COVID-19. They have signs that ask for patrons to wait in their vehicles or outside until your party of guests gets called. I was excited to see that Gringos has a holiday menu from November 17th- December 31st. The holiday menu has my favorite thing on it which are the fried shrimp enchiladas. Very exciting because this entree was taken off the menu and I was so happy to see they brought it back for the holidays! The food was good as always and the service was excellent. Everyone was wearing masks. The space between tables are not social distancing but thankfully we had a booth by the door so no one was behind us and there was glass between the other booth. The chips and salsa were good. My husband liked his enchiladas and said they were yummy. This is my daughter's favorite, we have ventured to several food trucks trying this and I would say Gringos did a great job. If you can stop by this month this is a must! We stopped in for lunch as we do so often and had a new waitress I think her name was Kylie, she was doing her best but as everyone knows there is a learning curve at a new job. She was sweet and had a smile on the whole time. There were some hiccups here and there that are understandable for a new waitress. The star of the show was jasmine, she recognized us as regulars and made sure she swooped in when she noticed the hiccups. Overall the experience is why we love Gringos Jasmine was able to use us to coach Kylie and help her become a great waitress. I love the team work and appreciate the great food.
