Once upon a time Pho Saigon was one of two Vietnamese spots on Kapiolani, right after a cycling workout. Today it's still an occasional stop for good Vietnamese flavors adapted to Honolulu's Americanized view of Vietnamese food. My go-to dishes after a cycle class were usually a crepe, Banh Xeo, with a avocado smoothie, Sinh To Bo. Today, I like a DIY meal - rice paper, banh trang; woven rice cakes, banh hoi; shrimp paste w pork fat on a sugar cane stick, chao tom; and pork sausage, nem nuong - all wrapped with fresh veggies. Their menu has expanded to include more rice and rice noodle plates. There is decent curry, Cari, and beef stew, Bo Kho. The pho has the usual Americanized suspects with catchy names - Lost In Saigon", "Pho-nomenal", 'Pho-bulous". And there are a variety of rice paper wraps, thankfully without silly names - except for summer and spring rolls. They open early for a breakfast bowl of noodles when you'll often find Vietnamese being spoken. Lunch and dinner are more about the locals dropping in for something familiar - like a bowl of pho drowned in sriracha. Whoever drops in is sure to be treated with courtesy. Pho Saigon kind of occupies the spot that Hale Vietnam used to have for a large clean restaurant with good service and consistent familiar Vietnamese flavors that catered to Honolulu's Americanized palate. I had date night with the hubby last night and he wanted pho. I like this place because they have the best crab noodle soup and that's what I normally get. I've been here a few times throughout the years, but I'm doing an updated review since my last one was over 10 years ago. The prices have also gone way up. I can't believe the spring rolls are now $21 and the fried chicken wings are $24. The entrees aren't as steep. My hubby got the chicken pho $20 and I got the crab noodle soup $24. They have the best crab noodle soup at this place. The bowl is huge and it'll last me two meals. I always take the leftovers home for lunch the next day. They give three crab balls now and just one of the crab fishcake. They used to give more. I also like the steamed pork slices that they put in. Many places use the pork blood cubes, which I don't like. They don't use those here. All of the ingredients were fresh. Both the pho and crab noodle soup were tasty. read more

Customer service matters. I don't care how good the food is--if the service is off, it changes everything. I came in around 8:30pm. The sign said they close at 11pm. I ordered a green papaya salad to go and a tofu vegetable pho. The menu looked good, and I was actually excited--I even joked with the waiter that they should take the menu away before I ordered more. Once my food arrived, I had to ask for basic sauces like spicy garlic and chili. Then before I even really started eating, they asked if I wanted to order anything else because they were closing. That didn't line up with the posted hours. At 8:50pm, another customer came in asking for a to-go order and was turned away. He was told they were closed--then mentioned they actually close at 8:30pm. That caught my attention. It didn't sit right watching someone get turned away like that, especially when the posted hours said otherwise. In the middle of my meal, they asked me to stop and pay "before the cashier closes." So I had to interrupt my meal to handle that. After that, it felt rushed--I could clearly feel they wanted me out. That's unfortunate, because I live right across the street and was ready to make this a regular spot. On my way out, I took a photo of the sign. After I questioned them, they had changed the closing time with a marker to say 9pm. The whole situation felt unnecessary and disorganized. If they want people out by nine, then perhaps they should close at 8pm. Service matters. If a place doesn't value its customers, it shows--and I can't support that. read more

I had such a satisfying bowl of beef pho here The broth was rich, aromatic, and tasted like it had been simmering for hours--super comforting without being too heavy. The beef was tender and fresh, and the noodles were perfectly cooked. I also loved all the fresh herbs and sides that came with it--really let you customize each bite. You can tell they care about quality and flavor. If you're craving something warm, flavorful, and just overall yummy, this spot definitely hits. I'll be back for sure! read more

We've been eating here for quite some time now and it has been consistently good. We've had everything from pho to bun bo hue, and almost every vermicelli dish they serve. But our all time favorite is their shrimp patty in crisp soy wrapper. The shrimp patty has great flavor. The soy wrapper is fried just right for a perfect golden crisp. This is served over vermicelli noodles which is always fresh, never dried out. This dish comes with pickled and julienned carrots, radish, and cucumber. They also drizzle on the green onion oil. In a separate dish, you can use a little fish sauce and chili to take it to its peak flavor. Consistently, they have clean tables and chairs, fast and friendly service, and the food is always on point. Thank you for the ample free parking too! Pho Saigon has a good location if you're craving pho after shopping at ala moana. The restaurant is clean and spacious. The staff is really nice too. The cost for pho is pricier than other places, but the broth is great so I recommend to check it out. I love that they ask if I want the raw meat on the side or in the broth. I prefer it on the side as that's how I grew up ordering pho. Most places will automatically put it in the broth unless I request it. Let's talk parking. I've only gone early dinner time between 5p - 6p so I'm not sure how crowded the parking can get especially since there's another restaurant there as well. The parking lot is accessible from the front side along Kapiolani Blvd. You can enter from the back side, but you're forced to turn left by CPB and go around towards Kapiolani Blvd. read more

We found this pho place off the strip and it's pretty expensive. Found this not too far from our hotel. It's not walking distance but there's plenty of parking. It's kind of pricey for pho and I thought the portions and quality could be better. The well done brisket for me was tough, also too thick. The spring aka summer rolls were very good. Quick review for this place. The girlfriend and I went here for a quick, casual dinner for my birthday. I know this place has been here for awhile, but it was our first time here. We arrived early and got our seat and water. The place is pretty spacious and pretty clean. The wait staff were very friendly as we asked about some of the menu items. We decided to go with the beef combo pho, which was flavorful and came with a lot of brisket and ribeye. We also tried their Saigon noodles. This dish was different, but was a good recommendation. It's an egg noodle dish in a sauce, with seafood. Overall, our experience here was nice. I think by far one of the worst service I've ever had. I will never eat there again When we first got there we were seated and waited about 5 minutes I noticed there was people sitting down and they were sitting for a while a they finally got there water. An odd experience, but the food is good. Weekday lunch after 2:00, not too busy. Two servers and one table support. We ordered: Char Siu bahn mi (good), chicken wings (good and interesting seasoning), cup of broth (good). And we ordered the "Lost in Saigon" $33 huge bowl of beef pho with tendon, beef balls, ribeye and a big-ass beef rib. Super amazing and delicious. Usually when you order pho you get a plate of garnishes. Basil, lemon or lime, sprouts etc. The table-support guy set down the most beautiful plate of herbs and produce I'd ever seen in any Vietnamese restaurant. Cucumber slices, carrots, basil, pickled daikon and carrots, mint and another green. Also, a small dish of bac nam was set down. When my sandwich arrived, I dipped it into the bac nam like always. So good. My dining partner ate a cucumber slice from the garnishes. The wings arrived and the server said something as he took the plate of garnishes away. Then the other server reached for the dish of bac nam and started taking it. I said I was already using the sauce, please let it go. He hesitated and set it down. I couldn't use the sauce after he put his fingers all around the edge like a claw. Then the other server brought out a small plate of garnishes that had sad basil and sprouts. What's wrong with these actions you may be asking yourself? Once set food is set down on a table and left, it's dead to any other table. If they re-used that plate at another table (and you know they did), that is hella unsanitary. Even if that plate was the wrong one, we have a $33 bowl of soup coming. Just inform us that we benefited from a mistake so next time we know what we will actually receive. read more

The food at this place is absolutely terrible! We ordered the chicken with fish sauce and that was decent but for the price? It's not worth it! Also I wanted to try their bun bo hue!? My family wanted Pho when visiting so we took a detour at Pho Saigon to see how comparable it is to our local favorites! It is fairly limited in terms of protein selection, as I enjoy my pho with a variety of beef cuts. You pick up to 3 choices and then you would have to add on any additional meats. Surprisingly, their broth is delicious and so I thought that was the only thing that made their pho slightly better than the other location we tried. Their side order prices are quite expensive and to add on a protein is already half as much as the bowl! Also, additional garnish such as white onions are extra too. Their Vietnamese iced coffee was darkish brown in color which scared me a bit! It wasn't that strong at all, but you don't get the creaminess of the condensed milk. Seeing the differences and deciding what is more worth, I can agree their pho is not worth going for again. DO NOT COME HERE! My friends and I came here for lunch today and had the worst experience. We asked for two high chairs and the waiter yelled at us and said they only had one. We should've left there but our other friend had already gotten a table and when you have toddlers, it's hard to just pick up and leave. He showed us to our table and kept yelling and pointing at us to sit down. He kept saying, "Hurry up, go sit down already!" I had to turn around and tell him to please stop rushing us. Not even 30 seconds later when I'm still trying to settle my toddler in the high chair and getting her bib/placemat, the waiter comes back and tells us, "What's your order!" I told him I didn't even look at the menu yet. Mind you, the restaurant was basically empty, only a few tables were occupied so I have no idea why he was being so rude.
