My cousin, who was visiting from out of town, suggested we try this place, based on online reviews. While neither of us are vegetarian or vegan, we both love our veggies and going meatless, and are fans of Vietnamese food. Thuong An Lac is an extremely small (5 tables, tops?), "blink and you might miss it" restaurant, located near the intersection of N. King and Kekaulike, in the building across from Oahu Market: 135 N King St, 2A. Enter the main building door, then look right. Service is friendly and efficient. Our server kept the refreshing complimentary iced tea flowing throughout our meal. The tea was delicious, yet like nothing I'd ever tasted before.: jasmine green tea was the base, but with an additional depth that seemed oddly familiar, yet I couldn't place at first: grassy, vanilla-like... Then it hit me: pandan. I'd never had it in tea before. I asked the server, and he was super-surprised that I'd figured out the combination. My cousin and I ordered the Rice Noodle with Spicy Beef Soup, the Duck Noodle Soup with Bamboo Shoots, Summer Rolls, and I think they gave us an appetizer of beancurd skin garnished with crispy shallots. We enjoyed everything: flavorful, fresh, with a nice assortment of textures, and agreed that while there was a pleasant light, healthy quality to our meal, it was definitely satisfying! We'll be back.

Small restaurant with 5 tables in chinatown. Vegetarian restaurant with fast and courteous service. Soup came out fast with tofu, mushrooms, tomato, and itherd. Perfect for a rainy day to wake you up. You can tell if popular a lot of take out orders. Will try other dishes later.

idk but it was so good!

Just the most amazing vegan Vietnamese food there is on the island! I often frequent the Westminster Garden grove area in California where Vietnamese food is aplenty, including vegan options. This place would compete with those over there. You got plenty to choose from even with picky eaters so you're going to find something for everyone here IMO. We opted for the pho noodle soup and the dry hu tieu which is like a noodle dish with side soup. Flavors were amazing and were only enhanced with their house made lemongrass oil which you can self serve. The place is a bit small but we were lucky to get seated immediately on a Friday lunch. Would love to come back here over and over on my trip, but may have to make decisions since there's so much food to try! The restaurant is a peaceful serene like place and has that Chinatown like theme, showing maybe the age of the place so don't expect modern classy vibes. Also there may be a bit of a language barrier so if you can speak even a little Vietnamese, maybe try pulling it out. Otherwise, just point to the dish on the menu to order! They do accept card here btw. Parking is Chinatown so try the municipal lots for cheapest option, street parking is also possible.

We came here on a rainy day. Right away, a woman greeted us and clarified that their restaurant is vegan. She served us iced tea instead of water, a nice change. We ordered banh mi, rice noodle w bbq pork and spring roll, and banh bao. The food came out really fast and was beautiful and delicious. The vermicelli was the best - I could eat that every day. We were both stuffed when we left. We took the bus so I'm not sure about parking. The dining room is modest with just a few tables, nothing fancy. Those are usually the best places anyway.

It's crazy that vegan Vietnamese food can actually taste pretty good??? There are certain dishes that are hard to make vegan because it relies on that umami-ness that often comes from animal-based sources but I have to say that their Bun Bo Hue is something I would order again and again. As much as I love my pig's blood and meat, I don't find myself missing it too much when I have a bowl of their BBH. I also really love their wontons too; they get it SUPER crispy! I also don't mind their Banh Mi as well. The owner strictly only speaks Vietnamese but does her best to make you feel welcome!

I over ordered and would 100% do it again. I love this place and wish there is something similar in Seattle. I got the bun rieu, bun thit nuong cha gio, cơm gà Hải nam. All were excellent!! Service was superb. Very friendly and they let me order even when they were almost closed (so sorry if you're reading this, I didn't realize the time). The inside was clean and small, very quaint. They make their own snacks near the register! Try some! Oh and the sugarcane juice was heavenly too.

Lunch in Chinatown, Honolulu, Hawaii... Vegan Vietnamese Cuisine? I had to try it! Knowing that metered street parking is free on Sundays, I finally had an available Sunday to go to Thuong An Lac. I asked my sister and mom if they wanted to check it out, too... They agreed! Located on the corner of King Street and Kekaulike Street, and across from Oahu Market, Thuong An Lac is a cozy, old school establishment with friendly service! The server was very welcoming to my mom! My mom and sister ordered the pho (there's only one type). It came with lots of fresh Veggie condiments. Many other bottles of hoy sin sauce, Sriracha, etc. were on the table, but they really didn't need any. My sister said that some of the textures of the "fake meats" were odd. She let me try some... ummm... maybe one was supposed to be like tendon??? I got the vermicelli with spring rolls and vegan BBQ pork. I liked the vegan pork because there was a nice outer crisp. The spring rolls had some taro in it. Overall, it was great! I'd return again and try Donna O.'s favorite dish!

This was maybe the BEST vegan Vietnamese restaurant I have ever been to. Absolutely blown away with the freshness, flavors, and service. Firstly, it feels like you are entering Aunty's home for a meal. It is a small but welcoming space. We saw locals enjoying big bowls of pho and bo bun hue on a dreary rainy winter day. We ordered the pork bun (soft, great filling), vermicelli bowl with bbq pork (omg the best thing we ate on our trip to Hawaii), and the Hainanese chik'n (simple but delicious fried mock meat and I couldn't stop eating the rice). Make it a point to visit this excellent spot, you won't regret it!

What is the hainan chicken made from?

I don't know for sure, but it seems to be more of a tofu like texture than a seitan texture. It's incredibly realistic and delicious though! It almost seems like tofu skin pressed together to make the meaty texture. It's really good!

Three of us got the Iron Man Sandwich (only one of three got "spicy" and it was apparently not super spicy, so spice wimps like me could probably handle it), and my mother got the cheeseburger. The three of us with the Iron Man liked ours, but my Mom wasn't impressed with her burger. My husband also got a banana and peanut butter smoothie (the "nutty banana"), and my parents got the Nutella chocolate milks, and everyone was pretty happy with their drinks! The location itself is pretty cute and small, and appears to be operated solo by the lady we assumed to be the owner and eponymous "Blondie." She was really friendly and helpful while we were trying to decide what we all wanted (we can be a slightly indecisive bunch). I thought the wall of little index cards illustrated by various patrons showing where they were from was a really nice touch! We chose to sit indoors, since outdoor tables that would take four were occupied, but it might be noisy out there with the proximity to the main road. Inside the music can be a little loud, too, but the lady behind the counter turned it down some for us, which was kind of her to offer. Overall a decent little vegan sandwich shop with a great smoothie and drink selection! I think if my husband and I are about town on our own on our next visit to the islands, we might stop by again, but my parents will probably opt for other things given that my mother never gets beyond a first impression. Definitely worth trying if you're looking for a nice vegan meal and beverages!

The fish was perfectly crispy with fresh slaw and really creamy sauces. The tortillas for the tacos tasted very fresh too, which made them even better. The texture and caramelized top were spot on. Portions were generous as well. We were staying at a nearby resort so it was an easy walk for us. The service was good, although we came when there was not much of a line. The truck is located in a lot with several other food trucks so it is easy to find. I cannot speak to parking since we walked. Or just people who want a change of pace. I first spotted Tane months ago while grabbing dinner with the family at Mini Garden next door. I made a reso for my birthday on open table, so it was seamless. The vibe inside is super trendy--it's got that darker, modern Izakaya feel that I really like. Highlights: The menu is super creative. The poke tofu salad with fresh ogo was so good, and I was also a big fan of the charred shishito, the red pepper sushi, and the stuffed mushrooms. The drinks were smooth, too (the mocktails and cocktails were both solid), though fair warning: the ETOH pour is on the lighter side. Hits & Misses: They're definitely doing some innovative things, like the pickled mango sushi. Personally, I didn't think the mango meshed well with the sushi rice: it was a lot sweeter than I expected, almost sickly sweet. I also didn't really care for the agedashi tofu because the dashi wasn't traditional and leaned pretty sweet and thick, which was also the case with the aburage sushi. The eggplant and mushroom sushi were standard and exactly what I expected, though. Service: The waitstaff was super friendly and attentive. Parking is easy to find, and the pricing is really good if you hit up Happy Hour. Bottom Line: I would go back, but I'll be a little more intentional about what I order next time!

The kouign amann seems like a popular item as we bought the last of them (we had wanted four, but there were only three) and it was still early afternoon. There is a parking garage nearby that allowed for long enough free parking for us to go order and grab our goodies to go. The location itself doesn't have a lot of seating space, so it seems best set up for takeout, but it is a pleasantly bright space and the outdoor seating seems like it would be nice as they're not on a main throughfare. It's far from where my family lives on the island that we stay with when we're visiting, but next time we're near Ala Moana around lunchtime, we'll definitely stop by for some vegan goodies!

Great place to get pizza and cannoli!…read more My boyfriend and I decided to stop by one Saturday night and was pleasantly satisfied with what we ordered. We got there before 8pm and they were sold out on a lot of the items, but still liked what we got! We ordered the Brooklyn Pizza (perfect for two!), which was made with fresh ingredients and was made to order. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate chip cannoli which has the right amount of sweetness and texture, a perfect ending to our meal. They have outdoor and indoor seating, and the service was warm and pleasant. I love the vibe on both areas, and we could see the wood-fire oven even in the indoor seat that we got. Good to know too that they're a vegan pizzeria, we'll definitely come back to try more of their pizza and salads. We found street parking but overheard that it's ok to park at the Hawaii Gas assigned parking on weekends only.

After a full beach day, Floralia was exactly what we were craving. We grabbed takeout and ordered…read morethe vegan cheese pizza and the White pizza, and both were fantastic. The crust was beautifully done, crisp around the edges, chewy in the center, and full of flavor. The White pizza was probably my favorite, with creamy vegan cheeses and a richness that felt indulgent without being heavy. The vegan cheese pizza was simple in the best way and disappeared quickly. Our kids loved both pizzas, and there wasn't a slice left by the end of dinner. After a long day in the sun, it was the perfect meal to bring home and share together. We'll definitely be ordering again.
