We had come here hoping they still had the vegan macarons, but it appears they don't. However, they still have vegan caneles and apparently the base kouign amann here are vegan! We tried the kouign amann with the toppings she mentioned as vegan (the butter one is not), and they were pretty good, especially with the cinnamon topping! The young lady at the counter was very helpful and patiently pointed out which things were vegan to us, which I really appreciate. The kouign amann seems like a popular item as we bought the last of them (we had wanted four, but there were only three) and it was still early afternoon. There is a parking garage nearby that allowed for long enough free parking for us to go order and grab our goodies to go. The location itself doesn't have a lot of seating space, so it seems best set up for takeout, but it is a pleasantly bright space and the outdoor seating seems like it would be nice as they're not on a main throughfare. It's far from where my family lives on the island that we stay with when we're visiting, but next time we're near Ala Moana around lunchtime, we'll definitely stop by for some vegan goodies! read more

The grilled cheese sandwich was simple but done right--perfectly toasted bread with gooey, melty cheese and that golden, crispy exterior that hits the spot every time Comfort food at its best. The real standout for me was the mochi kouign amann--crispy, buttery layers on the outside with that chewy mochi texture inside Sweet, indulgent, and totally unique. SERVICE IS GOING DOWN AT LA TOUR. Previously I was giving them top stars but now I'm not going to them . The last 2 visits we went the girls were acting ignorant. When ordering their burger I said " I like to get the regular burger "... the girl snobbish barks back "what do you want ? Ours are not just regular, they have havarti cheese and etc and continues to let me know how much they are etc - it was odd how she spoke- ( it was the first I saw this girl at the location at ward and I have been there about a dozen times before to buy 5 burgers each time for my family. I know what they have and not sure why she has a poor attitude and gross too- she was doing some unsanitary face touching scratching of acne when I walked be another time so I walked faster got disgusted) .Then as I didn't see that odd bird of a worker there the other evening I went in to order again 5 burgers and a bunch of other food probably about $200 of food. Half of it we consumed ( grilled cheese and soup, small bites) while waiting for the burgers. Well that girl didn't tell us the burgers were sitting there at the counter. All piled up awkwardly in a bag and so only after we checked in with her to ask about our order she says " oh those are yours there" they were all cold and mushed (the shop wasn't even busy just us and another family). and my son was hungry so started eating he said he would still eat it , then I opened one other one and not only cold but the meat was just falling out half of it fell onto the bag. I showed the worker girl and she just said "sorry" and I said but this is not good , she kept saying "sorry "3 times sorry to me without offering a solution. I said this is expensive to pay nearly $16+ for a burger and it looks like this ?! Was really unsatisfactory. Really want to support local biz but this is sad . I would rather go to Burger King. La tour hopefully will increase their quality and service before Shake Shack arrive bc their burger are sooooo good and they have pretty good training and service at their shops. Be better La Tour. La Tour Cafe in Ward, which was formerly just their Planted cafe, offers a delicious array of cafe items, many of which are still plant-based! I visit somewhat often for their drinks, particularly the Mint Water (minty and slightly sweetened) and Paradise Tea (similar to a plantation iced tea). I've tried their plant-based macarons and kouign-amann as well, and both are delicious but slightly pricey. The price is reasonable though, considering they are made of vegan ingredients and are almost exact replicas of their non-vegan counterparts, so I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a plant-based treat! I stopped by for lunch for the first time, and I wish I had tried it sooner! I was so impressed by their Wagyu Pho-ggie, a unique and absolutely genius creation combining pho flavors into a sandwich. The beef was so tender and perfectly marinated, and the sauce was also very flavorful with a bit of spice. And of course, their bread is as soft and delicious as you'd expect from La Tour. Before you think this seems expensive at $21, note that each half of the sandwich is actually quite large--I shared the meal with someone else, and it was more than enough for both of us. We ordered online but ended up dining at one of the few tables in the cafe. I love that there's options for seating both indoors and outdoors, as the surrounding area is nice and clean! When this was planted in all vegan, it was very nice and the food was great. Now that it's changed his name to La Tour Café and changed the menu where less than half of the things are vegetarian or vegan. No avocado! No vegan Amann available.... So this went from a very nice little vegan lunch spot to an all purpose, mixed up menu and nothing special and the taste wasn't very special either. Sad to see it devolved like that. This was my first time coming here! I always saw it in passing when walking around my coworking space so I decided to finally try it! There were so many things on the menu I was so curious about such as their planted burger, falafel banh mi, etc. BUT they also have specials so once I saw the specials, I had to re-think what I was going to get. Atmosphere - Well lit and the color scheme is nice and neutral. They have only like 2 or 3 tables inside so it can get full fast but they do have outdoor seating which is nice. We sat outside because it was a nice day and there was a nice breeze so it wasn't too hot. Also there's always dogs passing by so that was fun! Service - They are friendly and patient as my friends and I were so indecisive for a bit. They answered all our questions about the food as well. Cost - Ranges if you get a drink and/or food, $5 - $20. In addition to food, they have pastries (like the kouign-amann and canelé - they have different flavored canelé and they're so cute. They are really bite size so keep that in mind.) Parking - Street parking or park in the Whole Foods structure or the parking structure across from Whole Foods where the movie theatre is. My friends picked up some burgers, fries, pastries, and drinks from here. It was my first time to try out the food here and it was amazing. Great food at a pretty good price! We've been meaning to try this place for a while but haven't because parking is hard, but we were finally in the area. I got the fried green tomato sandwich which was very filling despite the deceivingly thin look. We also got a li hing lemonade which was exactly as described and delicious, and a mint water, which was the sleeper hit! It had a very strong flavor of mint herbs and tasted much better than the swampy look made it seem. I love La Tour! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I've ordered the burger, the falafel salad (so good and refreshing!), the kids chicken tenders and fries, and their French onion soup. Their mint refresher is so good too. The food takes a a bit long but I assume it's because everything is fresh and made to order. Price: like all food in Hawaii, prices are a steep, but it's worth it. No, I am not Vegan or ... or ... All I wanted was 2 6 pk boxes on assorted macarons but I wanted them early. The LA Tour (Nimtz) just happened to open its doors later than I expected. So, I ended up at Planted. (Kudos to Irene M for her review= jogged my memory to check on Planted's schedule) I head to Planted and what a pleasant surprise. It was Sunday morning early (like 9 am) and the staffer (I failed to get his name) introduced me not only to the gluten free macarons but the menu which addressed Vegan and Pescatarian I think. He also tells me that since they opened, they have at least 50 people who are "regulars" on their way to/from their work daily. Who knew? I've not tried any of their food offerings so I can't comment. I will say that I will head back there SOON (I can walk over from my office) to give their salads a try. Fun Fact- Prices posted for the meals are reasonable. The macarons price out @ $3.50 each and no discount for the Baker's Dozen concept. Heard great things about this place, and also been supporting the La Tour storefront in Nimitz, thought I would give this place a try. The lemonades were consistent with lots of flavor throughout consumption. If you're feeling adventurous try the Chee Mui-Ade which comes with half lychee lemonade and half li hing mui lemonade. As for the food, between the 3 of us, we bought 1 of each sandwich to try, plus the grilled cheese and tendies with fries. Honestly, the best item were the fries. The breads were all on point, so I won't discredit them for that. But the fillings in each of the sandwiches needed work in a sense. I think it was a matter of texture overload for me. The grilled cheese consistency reminded me of play-doh. The falafel was dry. The fried green tomato was mushy. The artichoke katsu was stringy. And the chicken tenders had an interesting after taste that I couldn't shake. The ''Big Mac sauce" that came with the it was very thick and didn't want to come out of the container when the tenders were dipped into it. At least we were able to dine in together with an AC-filled environment with clean tables and chairs. The service was alright. The cashier/counter girl started off friendly. Then when phone orders and other patrons came through, the level of service started to fizzle out. Not horribly, just noticeable that it felt like she was in a stressful situation. Nevertheless, at least we gave it a try. Maybe the vegetarian/vegan life isn't quite for us. La Tour has this great concept and Planted has found a new home in the Ward area in the retail section of 'A'ali'i and what a welcome sight it is as learning the closure of their 'Āina Haina location this more town location works perfectly for me though during their soft opening was open til 4pm didn't work well with me. Now open until 6pm is a welcome sight as I took advantage and stopped by form some sips which majority are lemonade, tea and coffee I was thrilled to learn from the staff that during July's Happy Hour offering which is after 4pm is a free Canele mochi with a large drink or entree purchase...oohhhh!!! Sold! I ordered a large li-hing lemonade and decided on a Matcha Canele and what a perfectly not too sweet but the mochi made it a delightful touch which paired perfectly with my li hing lemonade though this cozy shop has just a few tables it was definitely a great spot to chill and relax and will be back for my favorite Mushroom Dip and Tomato Soup. I love the items at La Tour and when I saw the new "Planted by La Tour" as I was heading for Cino, I was surprised to see it opened here. I don't mind eating Vegan or Vegetarian food so the next morning after church on Father's Day to check it out. It wasn't busy early Sunday morning. They open early at 8 am but closes at 6 pm. A lot of their customers were probably from the condo or near by businesses. I love mint water so I can get mint water here in town! They have all kind of sandwiches to try. I do like mushroom sandwich but I wanted to try the two other interesting sandwiches: Artichoke Katsu & Fried Green Tomato. Both were very good. I got a free macaron they gave in celebration of Farher's Day with purchase of a large specialty drink. They have garlic fries which I got. It was on a healthier side and not oily with I think dried garlic on top. The worker suggested the next time to get Aloha Tamago Tartine Instead of egg they use tofu. I forgot what he said about how it was made, but there was seasoning that made it taste like eggs. I'm curious to try it! They have salads, sides, drinks, tartine, soup, burgers, macarons and other desserts. They have symbols next to the menu items indicating customer favorites, spicy, coconut, soy or sesame incase of any food allergies. Listen, I am a fan of La Tour Cafe already, I'm very biased; I also try to eat Vegan when I can to calm my acne. So when I first visited La Tour Cafe's old Kahala location and noticed they were helping soft launch Planted, safe to say... I needed gas money to make more trips from central Oahu to Kahala. Thank goodness they opened this place which is a lot closer. Of course if I liked it in Kahala, I'm gonna love it again over here since it is the same company and same plant-based concept. There's seating indoors and outdoors and since the shop opened in the most recent months and the building it's in is one of the newer building in Ward, everything is clean. The biggest downside for the location is finding the bathroom, luckily they draw out a diagram for you to use. I am a big fan of the artichoke tonkatsu burger and my husband enjoyed his teriburger as well. Wish there were more side options, but granted we weren't looking for a large meal at this time. They were even better back when they first opened ages ago (back when fries came with burgers), but that's not necessarily relevant here. What is relevant is that Planted is fantastic, well priced, and provides a good selection of offerings. Plus, each entree got a little mini mochi. I can appreciate that. Ordered the teri burger and the nuggets and fries. Burger was well composed and nicely charred. Nuggets were crisp. Fries were great as always (La Tour has hands down the best fries, and yes, I know they have a fancy name). Got a butter mochi and a maple mochi. I was watching a show which featured some caneles and so I was on the search for some in Hawaii. Planted was only a few places with it and the only one open late. I decided to make a whole meal out of it with my family. Ward village was packed so it was very difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at Whole Foods but don't worry, we trekked back through there and picked up some grocery items on our way home. We ordered the grilled cheese, garlic fries, fried green tomato sandwich, deep fried artichoke sando and falafel bah mi. My kids did not like the grilled cheese probably because of the plant based cheese. I should have known because they are connoisseurs of the Kraft grilled cheese and accept nothing else. I would have liked the fried green tomato sandwich if there was a creamy remoulade type sauce on it. The smashed avocado just make the whole thing bland that not even the tart green tomato could save it. I added a tangy white sauce that the lady working there offered and it helped. The artichoke sando I would have loved more if there was more creaminess. The katsu sauce overpowered the taste of the artichoke and I wanted to lift it up more. The garlic fries were delicious. The falafel bahmi was good but again, just need that bit of mayo to really bring it all together. I wasn't a fan of the candles just because it was dense butter mochi and not light and fluffy as I was imagining. There are a lot of great things going for Planted. They create everything with plant based items, even their macarons. However, if you are wanting to try plant based food this is where some of the dishes fall short and may leave you wanting more. Service was great and the woman was patient and kind. She helped with keeping our daughter's macarons in the fridge until they had finished some food. On a lunch break, and took forever to get food and when it was ready they didn't even call it out and I was waiting there, and my food was waiting there for at least a good 5-10 minutes and cold, until I walked up and asked him where's my food and then the bag was sitting right there. I ended up just giving it back bc it was awful food and now cold. So i paid for an overpriced fried tomato sandwich that i never ate and late for work.
