We are weekly regulars at Sprout Sandwich Shop and it's usually good to very good. My issue at times is that the fillings can be skimpy and not evenly distributed. I think that you should be able to taste a bit of everything in the sandwich with every bite. There have been times that the pickled red onion was on the skimpy side - like 80% of the time. To me a great sandwich is when everything is evenly spread on the bread (house mayo, hummus, garlic aioli, etc.) and evenly laid out (turkey, chicken, meats, etc.) and not just piled high in the center with the edges bare. Today my Duke sandwich was fantastic! Whoever made it literally had everything evenly spread and laid out on my multigrain bread. The lettuce was over the edges, but who cares. The carved turkey was moist and the bacon had the right amount of crunch. I actually had pickled red onions in every bite and not just a few pieces pulled apart by the layers and spread out on top of the meat. I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich that just disappeared too fast. It's so easy to continually support our neighborhood businesses when they serve great food. read more

Sprout has the ideal "beach sandwich". Something that is light but filling. Satiates the appetite, but keeps that six pack tight. And you're going to need that for your day jaunting across Waikiki in your new seal-print bathing suit. So ditch that Moko Loko and grab yourself a beautiful sandwich from Sprout, you'll feel a lot better about your trip to Hawaii. I love that Sprout has vegetable-forward options even in their meat-based sandwiches. The pesto chicken salad was loaded with beautiful green goodies which made this treat as aesthetically pleasing as it was delectable. They're also slapping down some of the best local Hawaiian ingredients into these here sanguines. The pesto itself was mac-nut based, which was intriguing. I'll be honest, I couldn't taste the difference between that and a pine nut pesto, but it was friggin delish pesto either way. The only downside I can think of is that the bread here lands somewhere between "ok" and "good". I've never had a bread quite like it, but it reminds me of a mix between an artisanal white bread, and a painini bread that you would find in Italy. It got the job done, but I feel like it could be upgraded. Sprout is worth a visit before or after your beach trip. The surrounding neighborhood is also a lively area with tons of fun restaurants and shopping. read more

It feels like one of those places that has become trendy because someone on Instagram popularized it. The sandwich was good but not great. The lettuce was turning brown. In my opinion, a really great sandwich excels because you can taste the quality, freshness, and flavor of its individual ingredients. In my sandwich, the turkey was flavorless and it felt like they used a strong, heavy sauce to give it flavor, which to me does not make for a foodie destination, $15+ sandwich. Māla Market in Hawaii Kai remains, by far, my favorite sandwich. And given how long Sprout took, I could've driven to Hawaii Kai, gotten my sandwich, and driven back in less time. read more

Located in Kaimuki near the Crackseed store and Banan, Sprout is a small sandwich shop. There is parking in the lot near the shop, or street parking. Mostly we go as a takeout spot, although there was a bench outside. Their sandwich menu has variety but is not overwhelming. The people working have also been quite nice! We decided to get the No Comply toasted. While it is a pricier sandwich, as it was about $14, the sandwich came packed with chicken, lettuce, and more. It served as a meal and a half! Chopped Maui butter lettuce, some local tomato, their pickled red onion, bacon bits, and fresh roasted and hand carved turkey. This is a club styled sandwich I can enjoy any day. I love the online ordering function. I tried the Yogi sandwich recently and it was so healthy and filled with veggies and hummus. The hummus wasn't lathered on or as thick as their Sproutwich so keep that in mind. I genuinely feel like this is a really good post-workout meal that isn't too heavy - especially if you do yoga. Maybe that's why it's called the Yogi LOL. I also enjoy the dragonfruit kombucha that they have here when they have it I like to pick one up to have with my sandwich. When I picked up my sandwich, my first thought was, "Wow, this is a heavy sandwich for a turkey-bacon with added avocado, no onions, and no tomato." At the time I assumed the weight meant a generous portion of turkey and bacon. Unfortunately, when I got back to work and opened it, I quickly realized that wasn't the case--it was the lettuce. There was an overwhelming amount of lettuce packed into the sandwich, to the point where it felt completely out of balance. Instead of being turkey-forward, it felt more like a lettuce sandwich with a few toppings added in. The turkey and bacon portions themselves were surprisingly small and unevenly distributed--one half had about two slices of turkey while the other had closer to a slice and a half. Most of the bacon was also concentrated on one half, so I ended up redistributing it just to make the sandwich feel a bit more balanced. The bread didn't help either. I think I shouldn't have gotten it toasted--it just didn't do it for me. It felt a little off with the filling and didn't add anything to the overall experience. I ordered The Duke, but what I didn't realize was that I was essentially getting a salad sandwich (see pic). I like lettuce on a sandwich, but this was next level--the amount completely overwhelmed everything else inside. The cost was another consideration--my total came to $19.37, including a $3.50 charge for avocado. For the portion size and balance of ingredients, I expected a bit more bang for my buck. You can either opt for street parking, come on a sunday when parking is free, or park in one of the lots nearby. 2. The hours - they close way too early (3pm!). I picked up a turkey sandwich and it was about $14? They also give you a huge portion of turkey for your dog for FREE if you bring them along with you. Prices are kinda high for sandwiches, over $10 but I think it's worth it. I got the Big Kahuna which is a tuna sandwich. My daughter and hubby both got the Fonz. I have been coming to Sprout for years. For those of you that don't know, they are located on Koko Hear Ave, close to the corner of Waialae Ave. Right next to the crack seed store (that has also been there forever). I have always enjoyed coming here, the service is usually fast, and the sandwiches are consistently good. But of course, over the years the prices have gone up, so I have found myself coming here less and less. My husband and I usually order two different sandwiches and trade halfsies. This way we get best of both worlds :D At our most recent visit, we got: The No Comply ($12.50) Macadamia nut pesto chicken salad, Maui butter lettuce, local tomato & garlic mayo. There were times that I've stopped the work flow whenever someone sees me with this work of art with just a glance they were instantly in a trance wanting to know where to find it and it's right up in Kaimuki right next to the Crack Seed Store and there's no seating like they used to have a few years back but they do have that system to wrapping your sandwich perfectly to transport it without any shifty shift holding its own beautifully.
