Plant the seed and it'll grow. You see, just earlier I decided to get a haircut to offset the weird things happening since the full moon from last night that's been attacking me from many directions. My stylist has been cutting my hair for almost 35 years now. When I go see him, we usually talk about our families, travel and the most entertaining topic.......FOOD! He commented on the food trucks lined up in front of Imperial Plaza on Cooke Street and one particularly stands out: Hauoli Sandwiches (HS). They open at 11am and usually a line forms prior to opening. HS posts their location on IG so it's apparent they have a following. Despite bringing home lunch for today, I just had to investigate. HS started in May 2021 serving handcrafted and healthy sandwiches. They operate from a food truck and can been found at locations such as the Hawaii Kai Market at Koko Head Elementary School, Mother Waldron Park in Kakaako, downtown Honolulu, Malama Hawaii Makers Market in Haleiwa, and on Cooke Street in front of Imperial Plaza. For exact locations, you can also follow HS on IG for their locations and menu items for the day. After my hair cut, there were about 5 people waiting in line to order plus about 7 people on the side waiting for their food. I was glad to see that the sandwiches are made-to-order. I wasn't in a rush to go back to the office, so I stood in line and waited patiently to order. But I used the waiting time to decide what to get and my eyes landed on the Poipu, oven roasted turkey, provolone cheese, mayonnaise, pesto, sundried tomatoes, house pickled onions and a honey drizzle sandwiched between homemade rosemary focaccia bread - - I later found out this is their bestselling sandwich. Although reading non-positive comments on the chocolate chunk cookies, I took a chance. I ended up getting 2 Poipu sandwiches and 2 cookies - - I decided to also get lunch for my stylist who recommended me here. After paying for my food, I stood on the side for about 10mins or so before my number was called. I confirmed my order and walked back to give my stylist his lunch and dessert. I then hopped in my car and drove back to the office with great anticipation. THE VERDICT: I was impressed with the attention to detail and presentation. My Poipu sandwich was wrapped nicely and compact. It was also SOLID - - it had weight and perhaps could be used to throw with and to cause some damage. I unwrapped the sandwich and could see the different layers. I really appreciate how the chef to the time and effort to assemble the sandwich. After taking obligatory photos, it was time to dig in. The Poipu sandwich indeed is SOLID - - the taste was fabulous, and the contents were indeed hearty and filling. I also appreciated the different layer and texture contrasts. The pesto gave the sandwich a great pop of freshness and loved how the focaccia bread wasn't too doughy so you could appreciate the sandwich components. For the chocolate chunk cookie, it was okay but nothing earth shattering. It satisfied the sweet tooth in me and had a great chewy texture but just standard in my books. Customer service was above average. The staff were quite friendly and courteous while attending to the line of hungry patrons. Overall, an above average experience where I wouldn't hesitate to come back. I did see their post where the owners are looking to sell the business as they are ready to move on to another chapter. Next time I am hoping to try a different sandwich and pair it with a cold drink. NOTE: I followed HS on IG after returning to the office. I then noticed in their story that they were sold out at 12:35pm. Impressive. 2022 #40

    Kapaa sandwich 9/22/22

My friend mentioned something to me today. There are "good sandwiches" and there are "great sandwiches". It made me think...what did I consider a "great sandwich"? After trying Hauoli's sandwich today, I think I found what I would call a "great sandwich". The great sandwich I had today was the Kapaa from Hauoli Sandwich Company. The Kapaa was a chicken salad sandwich with homemade pickled onions, arugula, and provolone cheese. What made it so great? - The Flavor - The pairing of the creamy chicken salad and arugula was something I never had before...and it was amazing. The chicken salad had cranberry and some celery. The slight sweetness of the cranberry with complimented the savoriness of the sandwich and everything made it so tasty. - The bread - I really liked the bread. It was a focaccia which wasn't too thick. I personally have had focaccia sandwiches where the bread was just too thick. But Hauoli's was just right. It was also what made the sandwich pretty filling. I could only manage to eat half!! (Yay for breakfast tomorrow) I usually don't travel out of the office for lunch but I was glad I stepped out to try their sandwich. Where can you get this great sandwich? Follow their IG for their location since they're a good truck. Go early or you they might run out! Last piece...THEIR CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES ARE AMAZINGG! If you love chewy cookies, their cookies are chewy and soooo delicious. You know when you look at a cookie and can tell it'll taste good? Their cookies are one of them. I could eat a dozen of them easily! One moree thing! They recently got new owners from my understanding so they're are learning the scoops. Give them your support and check them out! #supportlocal

Sammiliciousness is when a sandwich is so yummy it brightens your day! Hau'oli Sandwich Company is simply Aloha and comfort and you can certainly taste it as it every ingredient and that's truly priceless. Sadly I've just found out that they'll be closing their biz and have been operating on a limited schedule down to Wednesdays and Thursdays though locations will vary so check them out on Instagram @hauolisandwichco to see where they'll be and trust me! I was fortunate to have Thursday available and found them on Cooke St and yes you know what's for lunch! First of all they serve it all on their freshly baked house Rosemary Focaccia Bread....oooOOOOO!!!! Well let me tell you that bread is amazingly fragrant with rosemary that I love and is classic with focaccia bread but it's a beautiful cut of bread that's not to thick, soft and just the perfect support to hold all the love they create to make it a classic Hau'oli Sandwich. Po'ipu Sandwich!!! YEAH!! WOOHOO!! OMG!! Oven Roasted Turkey, Provolone, Mayo, Pesto, Sun-dried Tomatoes, House Pickled Onions (LOVE!), Drizzled with Honey. Ya...just check out my picture cause I can't put into words how they create this masterpiece, there's certainly no shortage of anything and you won't be leaving hungry this Sammy was just perfect as is. I can taste the work that goes into it and have mad respect for them as they've decided to start a new chapter in life. Y'all please come check them out and show some love as they exhume it ten time folds...thank you Hau'oli Sandwich Co.!! Thank you!!

Hauoli Sandwich finally has new owners as of the ending of 7/21. They posted on Instagram a few months ago advertising the sale of their business and they finally found the perfect owners to take over. They've been in business for several years now, but i've just recently tried them out this year. Their sandwiches start at about $12 each, but they're large and filling. I've tried all of them except for the guava beef and was never disappointed in any of the sandwiches I've tried. They were also open twice a week, and there is always a line forming before they open. I try to go around opening time to avoid any disappointments. Their operations are very clean as well. Both members inside of the truck use masks and hand sanitizer in between guests. Hopefully the new owners will keep the truck operating for more days in the future!

Haleiwa with no sprouts and extra honey :)

I've been meaning to try this place out, and low and behold.. it was parked a block away from the building I work in today! It was meant to be haha. I ordered the Haleiwa and opted for no sprouts and extra honey. So my custom sandwich had two thick slices of ham, avocado spread, tomato, pickled onion, and honey! Yummm the perfect combination of sweet, sour, and savory! I'm usually not a fan of onions, but the pickled onions were delicious and added a nice sweetness to the sandwich. The focaccia was a nice touch (instead of regular sandwich bread), and I would love if they have ciabatta bread one day as an option! Overall, the sandwich was really filling and delicious :) I can't wait to try the poipu and their iced teas as well! Service was quick and friendly. Follow them on Instagram to get their location updates!

Holy crap. This place has the most amazing sandwich I've ever had. And I was skeptical. I first heard about this truck on social and have been following. My schedule hasn't lined up with theirs until yesterday (Wednesday). So I hate waiting for things. Hate it. The line wasn't long, just three people in front of me, but it took a long time to take my order. It is a two person operation, so it's understandable, but did I mention how I hate hate hate waiting? Anyway, I figured this would be my one and only visit. BUT the sandwich was AMAZING. I had the Poipu, Turkey pesto with sundried tomatoes and pickled onions. The Turkey was so tender - I don't think I've ever described Turkey like that before. I don't know how they did it! The bread was perfect, and I usually toast my sandwiches first - I like everything crunchy. But it was perfect just as it was. And the pickled onions were such a great accompaniment, and I do not like pickled things! I truly do not understand but it all worked and was THE BEST sandwich I've ever had. Not even exaggerating. The sandwich was also a good size; I only ate half. I also ordered the lilikoi mango iced tea, which was yum as well. So I will definitely be back and I will definitely be getting at least two sandwiches because I refused to share my leftovers with my husband. So minimum, one for him and one for me. Also, yes is kind of pricey but totally worth it. I only eat out for lunch like 1x a week since I mostly work from home, so I can justify it. LOVE.

Absolutely delicious sandwiches! I can't get enough of sandwiches and this place is the ultimate New kid on the block. Their food truck had a soft opening today at Mother Waldron park, next to La Birria. We got the Poipu and Waikiki sandwiches, as well as lemonade. O.m.g. The sandwiches are huge! And the meat exquisite - great quality and excellent texture. The pesto is not too strong but perfectly compliments the turkey and sundried tomatoes. Magnificent! The Waikiki is definitely more hardy in terms of meat and taste. It's a light flavor of bbq-ish so it's not too sweet and not too salty - jussssst right! Also their bread is HOMEMADE focaccia AND their pickled onions are too! Definitely a highlight of the sandwich as it compliments everything perfectly. Prices are wonderful and very very good. The portions, taste, and quality make this well worth what I paid. Absolute respect for this food truck. They killed it on the sandwiches and drinks. I know I'll be back very soon and spreading the word to everyone. Do yourself a favor and come get a bite of delicious, homemade sandwiches :)

If you haven't tracked down Hau'oli sandwich co. yet then you need to watch their Instagram and check them out. The menu changes a bit every time but everything I've tried so far has been amazing. I normally catch them outside Mother Waldron Park on Cooke street. Their sandwiches are handcrafted on house made rosemary focaccia bread and absolutely delicious. So far I've tried the Po'ipu (honey roasted turkey, provolone, pesto), the Waikiki (guava beef, gouda, mayo), Koloa (asian style chicken meatball, provolone, sriracha mayo) and Hale'iwa (applewood smoked ham, muenster, mayo). Personally my favorite was the Waikiki but everything is always good. The sandwiches are also pretty filling. They personally last me two meals. Definitely check them out and give some love to this newer locally owned small business.

We just recently saw this truck at the Kaiser PTSA farmers market. This truck is not listed on the website because they are a new edition. I posted a photo of the menu we had last week. The sandwich and lemonade were excellent!

Follow their IG so you know exactly where they're located during the week!

I love that there's such an awesome sandwich truck downtown! There's definitely not enough yummy sandwiches in the area. The lady at the register was super nice and friendly! She made the experience super enjoyable :) I'm glad I went with a friend as we got to try two of their yummy sandwiches! When we went, they were only offering three types of sandwiches. We got a roast beef and a pesto sandwich. -The roast beef sandwich was definitely our favorite. The bread so toasted and also fluffy. The sauce they had on the sandwich was just so good! We devoured it so fast, I can't remember what else was in it other than it was so freaking goooood! -The pesto sandwich was good too but definitely not as memorable as the roast beef. I can't remember exactly what type of meat it was (possibly turkey?). The pesto sauce was good and they put pickled onions in this sandwich, what a game changer!! Overall this place is a solid choice if you want to change it up from your typical sandwich spots since they're not always in downtown. Also - make sure to follow them on their IG because they post their location and operation times.

    Poipu

Check their Instagram for their location that day. I can sometimes catch them on Thursdays outside of Imperial Plaza on Cooke Street. Went there for lunch today and there was a short line. My favorite is the Poipu which is a turkey pesto sundried tomato sandwich. Service is super quick! They had my sandwich ready in less than 5 minutes. Will be back!

I look forward to the days Hau'oli Sandwich Company comes to downtown. I wasn't even a focaccia bread fan until I had their sandwiches. But I've tried both the Poipu and the Haleiwa and they're both amazing. I love the pickled onions as it adds a nice crunch and sweetness to the sandwiches. The lilikoi mango iced tea is also delicious! I'm not gonna go on because you really can't go wrong with their sandwiches. I just have to say, I tried their chocolate chip (or was it chocolate chunk?) cookie and I wasn't a fan of that. It's good if you like your cookies to be on the thin and hard side, but as a chewy-cookie-lover, it wasn't for me.

I loved these sandwiches too much! I was super happy I was able to try the O'ipu and Waikiki sandwiches *swoons*. I just happened to be at Mari's Garden and then what an amazing coincidence to see them parked out front! Both sandwiches were amazing and filling! I definitely need to come back I thought they were so delicious. I think about these sandwiches often. I am not the type to eat sandwiches but for these I digress. LOL Imma drop everything - so worth it

On Kapiolani + Cooke today until 2pm!

I would suggest calling ahead to see what they're out of and to ensure you don't have to wait.

Whatever is in the salad dressing is seriously addictive and the angry shrimp is wonderful when paired with the rice. The sauce made me want two more scoops of white rice. As I went back for the drinks, he instead handed me the remaining two platters. I turn to set those down and while doing so I guess he thought now I would be able to handle carrying 2 platters and 2 drinks. Because I didn't grab the drinks this second go around, the worker called me a "F***ING IDIOT." My boyfriend calmly tried to address it, but the employee refused, completely ignored him, and continued glaring at us as we left. Other customers also expressed how rudely treated they were at this location. We spent nearly $100 to be treated with hostility. Completely unacceptable.

The mac was BAD, like it was so grainy and I thought maybe they messed up the roux (if they used any), but my partner (chef) said that its due to it being overcooked. Which makes a lot of sense because the macaroni itself was also a bit overcooked. There were no like "cheesy-ness" to the mac at all, other than the sad, grainy texture sauce, which also had a strong "flour-y" taste. I do NOT recommend. Consider considered me and my friends were very satisfied when we left. The lemonade is the most refreshing drink ever. It's not too sweet or bitter, but it's the perfect amount of lemon and sugar to not be too overbearing. The pineapple relish on the hotdog was the cherry on top and I'm so glad the owner suggested it. He was so kind and such a cool guy and my friends and I are already planning to come back before our trip is over.

We knew we were only going to get one hotdog just to try it out. When we were ready to put in our order, I placed it in with the male worker. As I was saying my order to the worker, my boyfriend had walked away to the side to wait for me. When I finished putting in my order, the worker had asked me if it would have been just one or two hotdogs. I answered him by saying yes just one. Which he then responded by saying, "what, would he rather have a pho?" Clearly seeing my boyfriend was Asian, that was his question for us just getting one hotdog. He said it as if it was funny. I left it alone and waited for the order. I just don't get the point of him having to say that. He didn't even pronounce "pho" right either, he pronounced it as "foe." As for the hotdog itself, it is good. It is on the pricier side of $11 for one but for the price you get with the bun, polish sausage and toppings, it made it for it. Lower stars because of the overall impression.
