Ya know, for the price and how filling this sandwich was for me, I plan on going back to try the Beef and Chicken sandwiches as well. Another reviewer said that the sandwiches were too small, maybe if you're a big eater... I made it easy on myself and called ahead for takeout. Arrived about 11:30am or so and there was oodles of street parking in front of Ace Hardware. My order was waiting for me, paid for it and was back in the car within minutes. I was born and raised on Oahu and I am now retired and have moved to the Mainland, where my money goes a heck of a lot farther. Whenever I get the chance to come home, I try to eat as many foods that I can not get there, like a good Bahn Mi. The housemade bread was DA BOMB!!! The pickled vegetables were on point. The Pate and meats were a good ratio. That Sambal was like the cherry on top. I would highly recommend No Name BBQ Sandwich to everyone who likes a Vietnamese style sandwich.
We went to No Name BBQ sandwich for dinner tonight. We got there a little before they closed and we were lucky because there was a parking spot right in front. I swear I've passed by this place so many times but never had a chance to try it. Well tonight was the night. We were in the area and my husband wanted something light because we had a heavy lunch. I read the reviews and checked out peoples pictures and it really looked like a great choice for dinner. All of us ordered the BBQ pork sandwich. We were going to eat there but they packaged our food nicely so we just took it to go. The inside of the restaurant is quite small anyways, probably only fit around 5-6 people on tables. We took it home and it was so good. There was a lot of vegetables in the sandwich and the bbq pork was very flavorful. Even the bread was good and soft. My husband who said he wasn't hungry, ate the whole thing. I also ate the whole thing. I hope to go back there soon. The prices are good and the food is really good, it was a great choice tonight.
Really loved this spot and the price especially after having recently visited sprout. Which was fine but this was huge, satisfying, and so reasonably priced! I liked the bbq pork and the bacon. I thought the bacon (sunrise) would be boring but was really tasty with the egg and mayo. What set this apart was the crunchy light baguette. Next time I'd order with extra veggies even thought there was plenty because it was so refreshing.

First bite tasted like I was eating a tangy meatloaf. The pate texture was interesting, like loose ground meat, not a spread. Not much pickled carrot and daikon. The bread was pretty good - thin, soft, crispy. If you are looking for 'combo/special' sandwich like Le's Banh Mi, this ain't it. The red hot sauce is really spicy! I couldn't handle the heat, but I think it would've enhanced the sandwich. Order ahead to skip the wait. They also offer some rice plates.
This is an amazing small shop with friendly service. I've been here before but haven't been back for awhile. I'm glad I did! The service is a little slow so best to call in your order. However, the options are satisfying and prices are very reasonable. I had the veggie tofu sandwich. The bread was so warm, crunchy and crispy! When you bite into the bread, you can hear a nice crunch followed by the soft bread. The veggies are the best part to me though I could have eaten it without the egg. I didn't like the egg in the sandwich. Next time, I'll ask for them not to put it in. Parking is only on the street so good luck. Overall, I will be back but I hope I remember to call in my order.
No name barbecue sandwich shop is a true Mom And pop establishment. No frills just really good sandwiches. The service is always good. This is a couple of small tables, but I think in general most people take out their sandwiches uses all fresh ingredients in the pate is homemade. Parking is a little tight as a street parking only. And they do get busy with phone orders during lunch. Pro tip either go before the lunch rush starts or after lunch around 1 PM. Love this place highly recommend it.
I was looking forward to trying No Name as it's an old establishment and one of the common suggestions for best banh mi on island, but it wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped. It looked like house made bread which was lovely with great crust texture, but the sandwich size was noticeably much smaller than the average banh mi. I got the Vietnamese Special which had pork and pate, and while it definitely had lots of pate, it just wasn't super flavorful to me overall and was pretty chunky. It also didn't have sliced jalapeño inside which I thought was the norm, but maybe you have to ask for it here. The chili sauce they give you is quite flavorful although not very spicy. For ~$13 I guess I was hoping for more!
Today I got to try the Vietnamese Sandwich with the Vietnamese Coffee. The sandwich was packed and with great taste. However, the Vietnamese Coffee was just too sweet for me. A person sitting at the same table as me had advised me that the coffee taste really good without the sugar, so I will be trying it again with no sugar next time. The husband and wife working here are very sweet people. They are very friendly and helpful.
The Bahn Mi sells itself. Workers limited English speaking, but very generous and gracious. You just have to be patient when doing walk in orders. Otherwise, phone order is best. Limited street parking, so be prepared to look for on street parking in the neighborhood on side streets. Be respectful to how you park too. Don't block resident's driveways. Cash is preferred, but card on purchases with a minimum $10. Take a look at the menu for prices changes. There is some space to dine in. No public restrooms. Enjoy
Wife was craving for a bamh mi sandwich. After numerous searchs on Yelp we decided to try No Name BBQ Sandwich. located in a old building just up from Ace Hardware in Kaimuki. Since this shop had mixed reviews I said lets try them. Well, to start service was friendly. Waiting for two sandwiches was like wating for molasses to come out of a bottle. My BBQ pork sandwich had a good amount of pork, which was tasty. For me it had way to much cilantro and onions. One side of the sandwich was full of onions and the other side full of cucumber. Not evenly distributed. Enjoy

Estimated 20 minutes and was ready when I arrived. We decided to eat there since we were starving! We got our usual favorite - the Vietnamese Banh Mi which is now $11.99. I remember it tasting much more flavorful before, but this time it was a little blander. Maybe they changed the pate recipe? I hope they change it back to the OG Recipe...The Banh mi was packed with veggies which I loved. Crispy exterior without cutting your mouth. Owners are always nice and courteous to us. Con is parking is limited and no AC inside so best to do takeout. Nice to still support local family businesses like this one!
No Name slaps when it comes to Bahn Mi! This is a great place to order a few sandwiches and take them to the beach. The pork and chicken are my favorite, but regardless they are all great. Price is fair, the sauces and flavors are awesome, and this is a just an overall great hole in the wall to check out.
I wanted to try a new banh mi place and since I go to the Curb often I noticed No Name BBQ Sandwich. I wanted to try a special so I think the closest thing that they had to it was the Vietnamese Sandwich and to rate it on a scale of 5 I give it a 3.5. It's a little salty for me and I wish you could taste the pate. They are also lacking with the pickled vegetables which would have helped with the saltiness. Overall, The banh mi was okay. I don't think I'll get it again but I noticed that people order their BBQ Beef Banh Mi (#1) so maybe I have to come back and try that.
Update: still like to pop in when I'm around. This time I didn't phone order and just ate in the store. Foods still good, quality is great. Inside the store is clean and spacious with a handful of counter type seats. They're still nice. The prices have gone up a little since the last time I've been here. Not outrageous. The hours are pretty standard but I think there's some different hours on Friday. read more
What's in a name... Well here at No Name BBQ Sandwich it's exactly that. Located up in Kaimuki near the corner of Waialae Ave and 8th Ave there isn't any parking (that I know of) but just street parking which is lately impossible for me until I was thinking of visiting neighboring ACE Hardware which ended up being closed...sigh! I did notice what was open along with the street parking right in front of the restaurant. Walking in was interesting to see how spacious the space was where they do have a few seating but is nice and clean and right beside the service counter is the huge menu listing the various sandwiches. Not feeling much for meat I decided on their "Veggie Tofu Sandwich" which comes with all the classic cucumber, pickled daikon and carrots, cilantro and mayo but what's not basic is the sunrise egg which I didn't want as the tofu is enough for me but what a load of veggies it came with as I don't do cilantro but mom did so she had the load and love the generous portion as this single sandwich was totally shareable. After Yelp ranked No Name BBQ sandwich shop as the best sandwich shop in Hawaii, I can't wait to try it. First time walking in here, I was surprised that the store was empty, but it seemed like they get more phone orders, which I would highly recommend ordering ahead on the phone rather than coming into the store to order because the wait time is long. We ordered 3 sandwiches: the Vietnamese Sandwich, the BBQ pork and the Sunshine. They were all very good, the bread was soft and flaky, the ingredients were fresh. The BBQ pork had that pleasant fire Charcoal smell and taste. And the Vietnamese sandwich had a strong and creamy taste of pate that marks authenticity. The Sunshine Sandwich with egg and bacon is more of a morning breakfast sandwich. Even the spicy red sauce they gave us was uniquely spicy without toning anything down. It hit the spot. Unfortunately, the wait time from ordering in store to getting the food was a long 25 minutes for 3 sandwiches, and I can see that the 3 people were working hard but inefficiently, stepping over each other. It seemed like this is a family business that could definitely use better management system. Also they were not particularly big on customer service, getting more agitated with more customers walking in, not fluent in the English language could have caused more stress, and their mannerism felt rough. No smiles. Therefore I would definitely order ahead instead of ordering and waiting in the store to reduce face to face interaction and wait time. There are several street parking spots in front of the store that makes grab and go easy. I also wish they used wax paper instead of foil to wrap the sandwich, because cutting through the foil wrapped sandwich to share with family and friends left little pieces of foil in the sandwich, that is not good to eat, which would not happen with wax paper. read more

Always passed by but never had the opportunity to actually try them out until today! Banh Mi was amazing and fresh. You can tell this is a labor of love with how much effort they put into their product. Everything tasted fresh, veggies were seasoned, their bread is not hard so it doesn't end up cutting your mouth when you eat it, and each bite was so satisfying. The Vietnamese sandwich I got was a hit, and my friend's Pork one was delicious as well. Also note, they give you an option for hot sauce on the side. I LOVE spicy food and let me tell you that whatever they put in that sauce was killer. I LOVED it. If I could go back and just ask for extras I would totally go for it. It made my sandwich that much better because I love spicy. Interior was clean and vibey. Service was quick and the family running the place was very endearing. Will definitely be back! read more

The food was delicious. It's a little hole in the wall in kaimuki with good and affordable sandwiches. The service was amazing, the staff were so kind they even gave us free mung bean pudding. I got the bbq pork sandwich which I highly recommend and it's only $10! read more
Been hearing a lot about this place from fellow yelpers. Yes, it's true- the bahn mi sandwiches are great! Thanks to the tips from others, we phoned in our order ahead of time. He took our order, told us it would be a 20 minutes and gave us an order number. The shop is in the middle Kaimuki on Waialae, right across the street from Kaimuki Auto Repair, just past 8th Ave-, close to Ace Hardware. Picked up the order after giving the number to the owner. So good! I really like the bread-very crusty. I got roasted pork and veggie tofu sandwiches $10 each. The pork was shredded and was seasoned with asian flavors. It had a good portion of meat along with pickled vegetables, cilantro and cucumbers. The tofu veggie had lots of aburage tofu, cilantro, egg and pickled veggies. Both were very good! I saw there had other things like chicken wing rice, fried rice - not sure if it's a plate or bowl but we will be back to check it out! read more

I read the reviews of fellow "Yelpers", but the one that stood out in my mind was the review that said the bread is soft and won't cut the roof of your mouth! THIS! I was sold! I haven't had a Banh Mi in so long because every time I bite into one, I cut the roof of my mouth with the stale bread! Parked at the meter street parking. Placed the order and it was ready in about 10 minutes. The bread was crispy and soft! Everything tasted amazing. One of the employees came by after to ask how everything went. Tried no name for the first time after hearing many people recommend it and it definitely lived up to the hype! We heard the food takes awhile to be ready so we called it in 30 mins beforehand and it was ready when we got there. The workers were very friendly and gave us some chili sauce which was really good with the sandwiches. The restaurant is take out only and has tables and chairs inside but are only to be used when you're waiting for your food. There were several tables and chairs right around the corner so we ate there. We got the bbq beef and Vietnamese sandwiches and both were really good- the bread was crunchy on the outside but really soft inside, a lot better than the harder bread at ba-le. The sandwiches looked small but were so stuffed with meat and tons of very fresh cilantro, picked onions, and cucumber. The bbq beef was good but the Vietnamese was our favorite! Only downside is that parking is tough but we will definitely return the next time we're in the area! read more

Banh mis were more bread than filling, and a little dry, despite containing traditional ingredients. Service was friendly but extremely slow, we ordered three banh mis and it took ~20 minutes for it to come out. Ambiance was lacking, nothing of character and felt a little dirty but pretty in par with what I expected for a small banh mi business. read more

If you're a bahn mi fan, you've gotta check out No Name BBQ Sandwich. Located in Kaimuki on Waialae Ave, it's super walkable from all the other local businesses in the area. Pro tip: Call ahead! It takes around 20-30 minutes, possibly longer if it's busy. What sets their banh mi from the rest is the bread! It's crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and doesn't tear up the roof of your mouth. Plus, all the fresh herbs and vegetables really brighten it up. From cilantro, pickled carrots + daikon, and cucumbers. Their banh mi's have the perfect balance between meat and freshness. I've only had the #7 Vietnamese sandwich which is my fav. I did come by with my friend's sister who ordered the BBQ beef sandwich and she ended up liking the #7 better than what she ordered! The Vietnamese Banh Mi is my current obsession. The bread is perfect. Lightly crispy on the outside, warm and tender on the inside. Not too bready and not hard or dry so it cuts the roof of your mouth. The pork belly, bologna, and pate are a trio of salty, fatty goodness. The picked veggies are fresh and tangy, cutting through the rich meats and mayo, and adding a nice crunch. Top it off with their fresh chili hot sauce which has the right amount of kick to add flavor and heat. This is a family run sandwich shop that gets busy, so call your order in and then spend that time to find residential parking in Palolo. There are a few tables for you to dine in and some canned drinks and iced coffee for sale. If a sandwich could give you a hug, this would be it. read more

Not a fan. I tried the BBQ beef and for $10 I expected a legit banh mi. The bread was chewy and a bit soggy, and was more like a club roll than a legit baguette. The protein was this salty beef patty with a weird texture. It tasted very cheap, and not quality sliced beef like I expected. The veggies were all hot and steamed, and of course soggy by the time I bit into it. Portion wise, it was also not worth $10. I had a tough time eating half of it, and threw away the other half. read more

Food. Is. Bomb. I've lived in Kaimuki for over 30 years and have always seen this place in passing. Today I finally got the courage to ask them: "Can I get a bbq pork sandwich." Got home. Ate it. Now I'm writing this review. I wish I took a pic, but I think that's how all really good things are in life: fleeting but beautiful.
