This place is located in Aina Haina shopping center on the Mauka east side. It is fairly small with about 30 seats and been here forever. One down side is there is only one bathroom. Jacks is known for their biscuits which is look like muffins. They are very good. Overall the servings are on the smaller side. pancakes and bacon are average. The beef (hamburger) and eggs were excellent (see photo). The special omelet and veggie omelet were very good but the special could have used a little more Portuguese sausage. Overall good except could have larger servings and another bathroom but I don't think there is space. read more

As a kid I used to love going to this place with my dad whenever we felt like going out for a simple and casual breakfast. However, I will say they have gone downhill in the past few years. I went a couple times recently and was baffled by the rude/inattentive staff and the quality of food. When we first walked in we were just pointed to a table instead of waked to it which us fine just felt not pleasant considering it was an unwiped table next to a bunch of trash bins/stacked up boxes and right by the kitchen so lots of flies. I ordered one of the combo options while my friend ordered an oatmeal. And although the oatmeal is a side dish it is pretty filling if you don't need to eat a big breakfast. Warning: it's an interesting oatmeal texture that's closer to gelatin-like consistency and on the thicker side. What upset us was that my order (the bigger one) came out first and I was half way done with mine before we decided to go up an ask where my friend's food was (just a side small bowl of oatmeal). She noticed a bowl of oatmeal sitting on the counter of the kitchen and alerted our lady server to ask if that was hers. The lady server proceeded to look closely and say uhh yes gestured towards my friend to go up and grab it herself. This is terrible service, we are paying for YOU to bring it and serve us and preferably in a timely matter. By the time my friend got her oatmeal (grabbing it herself) the top layer was dry and cold. Mind you, our server never once checked in on us or refilled our waters. Most of the staff is Chinese with a lot of broken english. At the time the restaurant was about 50% full so I don't think busyness was an excuse in this situation. The next time I went a similar situation happened with the staff not bringing out the food and making you grab yourself after you ask. I will say, though, their prices are pretty cheap compared to other breakfast places but it's sort of a you get what you pay for thing because the lack of flavors an high-intensity blandness really sticks out. Unfortunately, I will not be coming here anymore and treating myself to better breakfast options in the area. But thank you for a good childhood memory! read more

I had their fried rice w/1 egg and Portuguese sausage it also comes with salad, soup , or biscuits. I had their biscuits which was pretty good it was toasted as well , If you decide to check this place out make sure you bring cash because it's cheaper . If you decide to pay by card this place will charge you 3% service charge on top of your bill . Some establishments do this because they don't have to pay the merchant processing fee . If you want an unhealthy breakfast it's good lol All my friends were super hungover from Halloween so they chose this place. The toasted biscuit was yummy but too heavy for me so I couldn't eat much of it. I wanted something with vegetables and the only thing on the whole menu with veggies is the veggie omelet. So I ordered the veggie omelet with cheese and hash browns and it was pretty flavorless. I added a lot of Tabasco. The server was very very hard to understand (strong accent) but she was attentive and refilled our waters often. I also ordered a papaya and it was pretty good. I've had better. Looking back at my review 5 years ago, I'm proud to say that Jacks continues to please locals and tourists with delicious, reasonably priced food. I now take my two young boys here after our fishing days since my father passed away. The legacy continues and it's the perfect cap to a fun filled beach day. Our bellies are stuffed with saimin, omelettes, hamburger steak, and pancakes. I enjoy talking story with chef Jack, Michelle (wife), Bianca (daughter) and Helen over the years. I work in the shopping center and will also grab a quick breakfast sandwich or plate lunch. They take a much deserved vacation twice a year since they work EVERY DAY. Apple Pay accepted. We were in the area and was looking for some place to eat so decided to try out Jack's Restaurant. It's a little whole in the whole that has breakfast/lunch items and a mix of Chinese and local food. I'm glad Jack's is still around - 'āina haina has changed so much, so it's nice that this local spot is still here after so many decades. I've been to Jack's a few times over the years, since I live in the area, but most recently stopped by with my dad. I ordered the combo #1: 2 strips of bacon, 1 egg, a biscuit, and coffee for $9.95. My dad ordered the veggie omelette with hash browns and a papaya on the side. The portions may seem small, but I actually appreciate that because sometimes you don't want to kanak right after breakfast lol. They definitely do have larger combos and dishes that you can order if you're hungrier - but combo #1 was just the right size for me that day. The bacon was satisfyingly crispy and not too oily (I think they must have drained the fat or patted it off), and the biscuit is really good with the honey whipped butter. Egg was a little bland, but it's fine because you can add salt and pepper at the table. The coffee was good, too - it tasted fresh and was nice and strong yet smooth. My dad really liked the omelette and the biscuit, too. The service is good - the waitresses give auntie vibes and stopped at our table periodically to see if we needed anything. Still a great option. Known more for their simple breakfasts, Jacks is a whole lot more. Went there recently for breakfast, had the corn beef hash and egg which came with a grilled biscuit and bottomless coffee for $11. Compare that to a Zippys equivalent and you are paying twice as much. And Jacks coffee is great and pretty consistent. The service is nice, the food comes out in a reasonable time. They can get packed, but it's usually worth the wait. Their after breakfast offerings are delicious and on this day they had kalua turkey, lamb curry and Hawaiian chopped steak as some of the lunch selections. Next time you are near Aina Hina, Jacks is a great place for breakfast and to go for a plate lunch. An institution in east Honolulu, lots of parking. read more

First time trying this 60 year restaurant establishment. Vintage style feeling with older style tables, chairs, decor, and cardboard boxes stacked on top of each other. The floors appear clean along with tables. I figured I would try the name sake special of Jack's Special Fried Rice with 3 slices of Portuguese sausage, one egg, and a choice of soup, salad or biscuit for $14.95. My walking buddy selected the Quarter pounder burger combo with cheese and a biscuit for $11.75. Sorry to report but the fried rice was too salty and the rice was soft and mushy, I couldn't eat it. The Portuguese sausage was also salty and soft to cut. The highlight was the biscuit, which was flaky and tasty with the honey butter. I didn't eat the sunny side up egg as the fried rice was just too salty. I took the leftovers home to add rice and stir fry it for a crispier texture. The burger looked good and my walking buddy consumed it along with the biscuit. Service was friendly and our waters were refilled. A service charge of 3% will be applied to all credit card charges. They did not have French fries or chips to go with their sandwich meals.A big let down! Pickles were cut so skimpy! Sandwiches were ok! Would not go back, Not worth the value for the meals served. Loved the breakfast! I had the Set C and chose the corned beef hash and hash browns, with eggs and let me say this....it was made to perfection! The corned beef hash and hash browns were made with the right crisp, exactly the way I like it. The eggs, over easy as I requested was perfect, and don't let me get started about their fried biscuit!!! Oh my, never had anything like it. This has become my favorite breakfast spot! Service was quick too. We got there around 10a on a Saturday morning, was able to be seated when we arrived, but closer to 10:30a, it was packed and people waiting outside for a table to open up. So I would suggest to go earlier, and it's ash the shopping center, so lots of ample parking. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because it does need a floor to ceiling cleaning, and a pile of empty boxes was the first thing I saw. I can't believe I never heard of this restaurant ! And they have been around for ages ! From the outside.. it doesn't look like much . So I didn't expect much . But you can't find restaurants like these anymore .. that just serves breakfast how you like it . The inside of the restaurant is nothing fancy and just looks like your neighborhood diner. On the menu ..there were many choices and combinations I actually had a hard time deciding. I wanted to try the biscuit which I heard was good .. and it was good .. specially with the butter .i also ordered the pancakes which was huge .. I couldn't finish it . It also came with one egg and one choice of meat . All that for $12.75 . ( Biscuit was separate with this selection) Staff was friendly and nice . Food came out pretty fast although it wasn't that crowded.... Which we were glad because we were hungry . They also offer a good selection of local plate lunches like .. Sweet Sour Spareribs .. I had never heard of this place until some friends wanted to meet here for breakfast. It's a small restaurant in a strip mall area so there is ample parking but limited seating. We got lucky and it wasn't too busy that day so we only had to wait about 10 min. The inside is like a small local dinner with laminated menus and old looking signage on the walls. Once seated service was pretty fast. The food is pretty decent though. I got the hamburger steak which was really filling. I had their corned beef hash, over easy eggs and rice with a side of wheat toast. I also ordered Vienna sausage on the side. I wish I got their biscuits but I'm not worried because I'll definitely come more often ;) My daughter ordered their Yoghurt Parfait. It had strawberries, bananas, cantaloupe, grapes and granolas over the yogurt. She loved it!!! One note, please bring cash with you. They accept credit cards/debit cards but there is a 3% charge. It's something I've been seeing everywhere so we all just need to have cash to avoid additional charges/fees ;) We also witnessed a young man who mentioned that his grandfather brought him there when he was little. I love this place! Local Asian team that are friendly and efficient. The food is good, quick, reasonably priced, and portions are fair and not huge. We have only done takeout from here. I usually get one of the combos with everything that can be, made extra crispy and the husband gets an omelette. I love their crispy hash browns, bacon, and corned beef hash. It's legit local breakfast. Do you see how crispy this is?! They're consistent also which is huge for me because I will notice the details when it comes to crunch especially. The grilled biscuit with honey butter is perfect and not to be missed! I thought I did a review before and came to update it but of course I only did the review in my mind haha. We decided to visit Jacks with my cousin and her husband. I can't believe we just found out about this place! It's a great breakfast restaurant. It's very cozy. The food was delicious we have similar tastes. 2of us had the fish and eggs and the other 3 had corn beef hash and eggs. They serve biscuit or toast and potatoes or rice. We enjoyed. Came in on a Sunday around 10am I was worried we would have a long wait, but there two open tables when we got there. Waitress brought waters and took our order. A lot of the menu sounded good - and next time I would try the corned beef hash and pancakes. This time I opted for the beef and eggs (with onion and mushroom aka loco moco) with a biscuit and my fiance ordered the omelette sandwich (an omelette in between two pancakes). He said it was good, just an odd combo to eat in the same bite with syrup. The loco moco was ok - beef patty was cooked well done so it was a little dry, but the gravy and added Tabasco and salt helped - and I ate the whole thing. Casual diner spot. The biscuits were the star of our brunch, reminiscent of the baking powder biscuits Grandma used to make and grilled to golden brown perfection!, they were delicious! Service was fast and somewhat friendly. Food came out quickly and hot....yay! Pancakes were large and looked fluffy, but they were gummy....still haven't found a pancake that beats Liliha.Bakery. Did't care for the fact that they serve margarine instead of butter. The atmosphere is diner/ cafe / Chinese restaurant with all boxes stacked up in front of the kitchen. The place needs a good cleaning, from thick dust on the pictures on the walls and lighting fixtures and crumbs and debris under tables that may never have been moved to sweep and mop under. I like the way they make their corned beef hash with just the right amount of corned beef and potatoes. And the hash browns were perfect too. Of course, a treat was the grilled biscuit with butter. Have not been to Jacks Restaurant for over 20 years but always loved their biscuits. (We used to eat here in the days before they grilled their biscuits!) We came for Mother's Day breakfast and so it was busy but its first come first served. I've been lax in writing up my reviews so was going to rate them a 4 star because we had to wait a long time to get our order (several tables who came in after us were served before we got our food) but the waitress was very apologetic and the food was fantastic. Husband had the fish and eggs and I had corned beef hash extra crispy, hash browns, and grilled biscuits. Best corned beef hash deserves 5 stars! read more
