I used to frequent this place for breakfast a lot about 10 years ago and was totally in love with the fish and eggs. Passing through this past Saturday I thought I'd get me some. Now called Hawaiian style fish (rock salt, pepper and garlic) and eggs. It was everything I remembered. Soft, perfectly cooked fish, tartar sauce (really not necessary), toast and rice. As a last minute thought grabbed a side order fried rice which I thought was good. Very local style with spam and egg. Not too fancy because I think that is an overkill. Especially when they add peas and carrots. haha I was noticing the menu as I sat there and wondered why have I not tried anything else. This was my first time trying Jack's; I can't believe I've been missing out on this my entire life! I came at 11AM on a Monday, and there were only a few other parties there. The waitress recommended Set C: Jack's Suggestion, and this had the perfect mixture of foods. I got the corned beef hash, eggs, a grilled muffin, and hash browns. I highly recommend getting the muffin grilled because it's crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy in the middle. The corned beef hash and hash browns hit the spot! Don't order the regular fried rice!! The rice was NOT fried, no seasonings were added, and the rice was mushy. YES, fried rice is usually made with day old rice, BUT this rice tasted like the ham and green onions were just tossed with heated old rice. Not fried up. It's where we go for a normal Sunday breakfast or when friends come into back into town after moving away. You can eat in or take it to go, they will have you dialed. Its first come first serve so try to get there early as they do get busy. I love a place that opens at 6am and serves breakfast and lunch. I'm an early riser and Jack's has been a fixture in Aina Haina forever! It was time to give this place a little attention. We had the hamburger steak and corned beef hash and eggs. With the Jack's Breakfast Combo C you get a choice of rice or hash browns and biscuit or toast. Get the biscuit! It comes out hot with a huge dollop of whipped butter. Yes, you will use all that butter. The biscuit is so good, big, golden brown and fluffy and warm! I also upgraded my rice to fried rice for $1.25. It was just okay. I may try the kim chee fried rice next time. The hamburger steak was nothing special, but it was a nice portion! Haven't been to Jacks in 20+ years. I remember it as a homely local restaurant with good food and the Honey Butter! Much has changed. It now has the feel of a Chinese restaurant minus the Chinese decor (except the stack of soda boxes in the dining area), messy. The breakfast was expensive, tasty food but not worth it, and no rice?! I came here this past Wednesday for brunch. Seems to be owned and operated by a local family as the owner sat us when we arrived. There was a good amount of people dining in as well as people picking up take our orders. Service was very fast, they took our order right away and food came out so quickly, honestly in like 5-10 minutes our food was brought out. We were a group of four, my uncle did advise us that they were known for their biscuits so my daughter and I both opted to order that with our meal. They cut the biscuit in half, grilled it and served with with some whipped butter. The biscuits was delicious, I would've liked to enjoy it with some jam or maybe honey as it was savory and needed a sweet component. This restaurant has a very homey feel, it's not fussy or trendy but i quite enjoyed it as not everything needs to be a photo op. I feel like a lot of restaurants have been leaning towards it for social media sake and honestly that is not always necessary. Delicious food and good service is always appreciated! Owner was sweet too, she recognized my uncle (he comes here pretty regularly) and let him know that they would be closing for a few weeks at the end of June so their employees could go on vacations to see their families. I had driven by this place numerous times and finally decided to check them out. They're located in the Aina Haina Shopping Center near Foodland Farms and Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha. It's a family-owned, neighborhood restaurant that's been around since 1964, so you know they're doing something right! Plenty of parking is available in the shared lot. They primarily offer breakfast and lunch items, as they're open every day from 6am - 2pm. I arrived super early and there were only a couple of people inside, however I've walked by before and seen it completely filled, so it does get crowded. One of my favorite breakfast items is corned beef hash and I'm very particular about it. Jack's has it dialed in! I ordered Combo #4 which comes with corned beef hash, one egg, Jack's biscuit and coffee for $9.50. I also ordered a side of rice, because you can't do corned beef hash without rice! I like to break the sunny yolk and mix it into the corned beef hash and add a little bit of rice to each bite. So ono! 5 stars for the homemade corned beef hash. I had high expectations for Jack's biscuit, as many reviewers claimed it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately, I have to disagree. I really didn't get all the hype. To me, it was just a regular biscuit, and yes, I asked for it grilled. I think if they added honey butter, it could kick it up a notch. Service is friendly and the food comes out fast. It's a bit cluttered inside, with to-go boxes piled high near the kitchen, but I guess that's what adds to the charm of a small, locally-owned hole-in-the-wall. Jack's is a great little neighborhood diner tucked into the little Aina Haina Shopping Center. I've been going ever since I was little in the early 90s. A great little neighborhood spot with local kine diner foods. They have quick and nice service with attentive staff who are always nearby to top up your coffee. Food comes out really fast too, but expect some short lines around mid morning breakfast/brunch time. The wait won't last long though! The grilled biscuit is their must-have: a homemade biscuit, split and toasted on their griddle, served with a dollop of whipped sweet butter. I had called on Monday to reserve a table for eight people. They don't take reservations, but assured me that it's not that busy at 7:45am. Luckily, Allen went early to secure a table for our party. It's quite a fun experience to try new places with my Yelp friends. This all started when Nadine C. (aka Auntie) noticed Peter Y. didn't have his Breakfast Club badge. Auntie decided to help him out by arranging a breakfast get together at a restaurant most of us have never been to: Jack's Restaurant (JR). Located in the Aina Haina Shopping Center just a few doors down from Pieology, JR has been in business since 1964 serving local style food for breakfast and lunch in East Oahu. I'm an early bird by nature so I was happy when it was agreed we'd meet up at 745am on a Saturday morning. I like to go early to better the chances of being seated immediately rather than wait for an extensive period for a table. While driving on H-1 just about approaching Kahala Mall, I noticed a familiar car to my right. I passed the car and then saw the driver. Lo and behold it was Auntie! What a coincidence. We both arrived shortly before 745am and snapped away entrance and signage photos as this was the first time for the both of us. Luckily, early bird Allen N. arrived first and secured us a table for 8. I was pleased the staff properly checked our vaccination cards and ID's before we sat down. I pretty much knew what I was going to order as I studied the menu prior to arrival: Combo #4 (corned beef hash, egg, biscuit and coffee). Thank goodness I sat next to Chris Y. as she reminded me you need to request to have your biscuit buttered and grilled if you wish. I do like an exterior crunch! VERDICT: Overall, the food was good but not earth shattering. The corned beef hash was executed well on the griddle with a nice exterior texture. My over easy egg was fried perfectly. The grilled muffin was good but not spectacular. I shared 1/2 of my grilled biscuit with Auntie as she didn't request for her biscuit to be buttered and grilled. She shared her regular biscuit with me and it was semi-dry and flat - - not a fan. The coffee was just okay. Service was above average. For this small restaurant they had several wait staff who hustled back and forth to make sure we were doing okay, our cups were filled repeatedly and our finished plates were cleared away. They even arranged separate bills for us like we requested. Very customer service oriented. In conclusion, JR was a great place to try with my friends. But as a personal preference I wouldn't come back here intentionally to grab a bite. But if I were in the neighborhood and someone wanted to dine here, I wouldn't object. Service is friendly and quick, and food is average. Breakfast offerings are the usual, and lunch is American diner standards like meatloaf and local Chinese ones like sweet sour spareribs. Reason to come is mainly that Jack's is one of the few places with biscuits on island. The biscuits aren't the best, since they don't have much taste on their own and aren't the flakey tender type of biscuit. But with the honey butter they get better. My wife loves buttery fluffy pancakes. Hearing from her girlfriend that Jack's serves awesome pancakes we stopped by to pick some up for breakfast. I had a piece of her pancake and thought it was good buttery, but just a little heavy. Still a good choice. I ordered the Cinnamon French toast. This was also good. For me the bread could have been soaked longer in the egg batter. We also shared a side order of bacon. This was served crispy and had a slight smoky taste. After a fun Saturday scuba dive at Hanauma Bay, several of us stopped by Jack's Restaurant in Aina Haina for brunch. Located at the Aina Haina shopping center, there was lots of parking. Inside, there was a good amount of tables. Now that restaurant indoor capacity is back to 100%, there shouldn't be as bad of a line for indoor dining. Fairly straightforward menu, you could also get items from the lunch/dinner menu. I'm a sucker for corned beef hash, so I got that breakfast with a side order of bacon and toast. Only after the lady placed our orders did my buddies tell me I should have gotten the fresh baked biscuit instead. Now they tell me! The food came along in due time. Diving whets my appetite, and this was no exception. Good taste, good amount, I had enough for a small meal of leftovers. One of my friends let me have a bite of their biscuit, that was outstanding! A very unique and savory taste! It would be a must stop if they included a homemade jam/jelly/marlamade, but just standard Smuckers jelly packets instead.
