Had a glass of wine and baby had watered down lemonade. Her drinks were put in plastic cups with covers and those horrible paper straws. Eyes always bigger than my stomach, we ordered: - Cornbread - when i grabbed it I thought would be super dense but really wasn't. I thought it was very corny and tasty. Lightly toasted. Honey drizzle which wasn't too sweet...or maybe I just ate the parts that didn't have. Baby ate almost 1.5 pieces and even liked the Jalapeno Butter that I just dabbed on her bread. She said wasn't spicy but think she just didn't have enough. - Bone Marrow - lit it on fire to burn off the alcohol. Pretty sure it ddin't get it all so I cut baby off once I realized it. Other than needing some salt, really good. Choke mushrooms on top. One half was scrawny, but hubs had the other half for leftovers and choke marrow. YUM. - Sunchoke and Brussels - YUM. Baby ate some but was not really thrilled about it. I loved it. - Scallop and Mushroom Risotto - YUM. Delish. Baby liked it too. So much leftovers of everything. Realized when we ate it for leftovers it was all pretty oily and needed a pinch of salt. But otherwise great. Staff really nice and helpful. Love that the place is spread out and open. Bathrooms are not assigned which I'm sure can get gross, but is great to not have to wait for just the women's. There is a big stall which was perf since baby is potty training and had to go #1 and #2! Only thing missing was a hook to hang my purse and her bag. Made a reservation just a few hours in advance and had no issues at all. We arrived about 30 minutes early and were surprised that they were able to seat us almost immediately. The interior was beautiful with perfect lighting, ideal for a date night. The food and drinks were both excellent, and the service really tied everything together. Spontaneous galantines date with my friends! It was a Sunday night and the four of us wanted to try dining in at live stock tavern the weekend of valentines. We arrived at our reservation that we made same day at 7pm. The restaurant was reasonably busy with almost all tables full and a full bar. We were greeted by a host and sat promptly with waters. The restaurant doors were left open, I am assuming for more air flow. The noise level was medium and crowd consisted of quite a handful of tourists. The decor was absolutely stunning! Red brick, dramatic lighting and beautiful big windows highlighting the character of Chinatown streets. The service was good for what they had. It was pretty busy but it seemed like our server was the only server on the floor plus two support staff. Service was adequate but nothing that stood out. Drinks were also adequate we tried 5 different drinks and only two of them stood out to us. The dancing queen was good (on the sweeter side) but our favorite was the fernet sour which is so hard to find!!! Def need to try if you haven't! It's great for after dinner as the amaro helps with digestion and it's also just delicious. The food selection was also very impressive but we do have a few notes and a few favorites. Right off the bat our favorites: the special which was a beef tartare was absolutely delicious the bread really stood out to us as it paired perfectly with the beef. We had a few (less adventurous) diners with us and they absolutely loved the beef tartare! The scallop and mushroom risotto with truffle was also delicious! So much scallops and truffle!!! We also loved the rack of lamb! It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. For the other dishes we got, the oxtail Mac n cheese felt more like a hamburger helper than a Mac n cheese. Flavor was good we just wish there was more cheese. The bone marrow is hard. Everything was perfect, the marrow was cooked perfectly and succulent, the mushrooms were generously stacked on and paired perfectly with the marrow! However we did notice that when they flambé the marrow some of the liquor used to light it did not cook out so some of the mushrooms on the dish had extremely strong liquor taste which made it hard to eat. This was disappointing because the marrow was so good and I really wanted to eat it with the mushrooms. The cornbread was also very good, I just wish it was hot when it came out. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and they even cut it into pupu pieces because we said we were sharing everything!! I do wish the prime rib had more of a crust on it. We also had the lobster pasta which was also very good (for a red sauce seafood pasta). Lastly dessert we had the bread pudding which was also really good just make sure to get ice cream with it! I also noticed a lot of reviews point out the cleanliness of the bathrooms and in my opinion the bathrooms are perfectly fine. A few gnats here and there but you have to keep in mind that you're in the middle of China town. Overall I give this place a 4/5 stars because everything was good and nothing went wrong, but I would like to comeback and hopefully try different things or see what our experience would be like on a non busy night. read more

I've been going to Livestock Tavern since they first opened and they have managed to maintain their excellent service and quality dishes. One of my favorite things about this place is their seasonal signature cocktails, inspired by a theme such as the Little Rascals, Elf or most recently, song titles. The food is always hearty, comforting, reasonably priced and the servings are generous. We often leave with a doggy bag. Our favorites: Hen of the woods; prime rib served on a bed of roasted winter vegetables; smoky boar bolognese; the rack of lamb; and the scallop mushroom risotto. We always leave full, satisfied and never disappointed. For dessert, we ordered the creamy lilikoi crème brûlée. Centrally located in Chinatown near several popular bars and restaurants, Livestock Tavern's space is cosy and dimly lit, with about 10 tables, as well as seating at the bar. The not so good: Service: This is a tough one. Our server was the only one there doing triple duty as host, server, and bartender. Same with the kitchen. Food came out slowly and inconsistent. This establishment needs more service employees. The bathrooms were filthy at the time of our visit. I couldn't recommend using its facilities. Parking: Street metered parking only. Come on a Sunday for free public metered street parking. I would have rated this review two stars due to the horrible lack of cleanliness in the bathrooms and very slow service. However, that is a management issue that should be immediately addressed. In addition, to require one server to take care of all the lunch patrons is borderline unacceptable for a restaurant to successfully continue its operations. Hopefully, this was a one time exception. Im torn. I would love to gate keep this place but it deserves to be talked about more. I was lucky enough to get a reservation at 7:30 last minute for Mother's Day and that is hard to come by for special occasions. We were expecting good things due to other reviews and we were not disappointed. We loved the restaurant rustic vibe, the servers were on it, food came out in excellent time frames and the food itself.... Delicious! Review for small parties: we had enjoyed eating at Livestock Tavern a handful of times, so when it was time to have a small party, I inquired if they could accommodate us. They replied (via email) promptly saying they could take a maximum of about 20 people, which was perfect. They have a standard party menu that includes shared appetizers and then a choice of an entree per person (I believe it was prime rib, salmon or vegetarian risotto). We also added the corn dogs as an appetizer as that is our favorite there! It's such a cool vibe inside and food was good. It was also the perfect place for a small party. We had two long tables of 12 (we ended up having about 24 people). We were able to bring in our own cake and we ordered ice cream scoops from the restaurant (no dessert included with the menu). read more

My wife and I stopped by Livestock Tavern because we had about an hour to kill before our reservation at Senia across the street. We figured we'd grab a quick appetizer and a couple of drinks. To be honest, the food and drinks were actually pretty solid. Good flavors, well-made cocktails, and the warm brie cheese was one of the better appetizers I've had in a while. If the review ended there, this would've been a much higher rating. Unfortunately, everything changed when I used the restroom. I saw multiple German roaches on the sink (which is pretty alarming..) and after looking through other reviews and seeing similar mentions of roaches, it's hard to write this off as a one-off incident. This completely killed the experience for us. No matter how good the food and drinks are, this a serious health concern and it's not something patrons should have to worry about. Until the infestation is clearly addressed, I can't recommend this place. It's disappointing because there is potential here but cleanliness has to come first. read more

For dinner, I ordered the Boar Bolognese. It took a little while to come out, but it was worth every minute: rich, meaty sauce paired with perfectly cooked pappardelle and a dollop of ricotta mousse. The risotto with shrimp and scallops was indulgent but a bit too salty for me. Chicken pasta had a nice kick to it. Lamb shank was very tender. #48 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) We chose this restaurant to celebrate our 4 year anniversary. They do take reservations so I made one even though we were eating during the week. We got there about 6pm and definitely didn't need a reservation as there were only 2 other parties in the dining area but I'm glad we made one just in case. I actually really like the interior. It is dark but also cozy with the lighting, decor and exposed brick. I put on our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary so they brought us each an anniversary prosecco which was so nice! Most places give you a complimentary dessert but I loved the free prosecco instead. After checking out the menu we decided on crab cakes and oxtail mac and cheese for our pupu's. For dinner my honey went with the prime rib and I opted for the lobster with squid ink pasta. Our pupu's came pretty quickly. The crab cakes were delicious! There were full of crab and I loved the sauce and fennel that came with it. The mac and cheese was good but I wouldn't call it mac and cheese because it was not cheesy at all. It seemed like it was just noodles and oxtail sauce. I liked the oxtail but I was looking for something cheesy and it wasn't cheesy at all. Next up were our entrees. My pasta came with a lobster tail which was a nice surprise. I thought it would just have lobster in the pasta but a whole tail is even better. I enjoyed the pasta sauce a lot it was just really rich. My honey's prime rib was perfect! It was delicious and I liked the sauces for dipping. I just popped in here today to get an order of them and they shrunk the dogs down like 60% while charging the same old price for the big ones they used to serve. I dig it. They do have a large menu, and the service staff was polite, answering all my questions about their best sellers and their personal favorite menu items. We settled on a few different plates, including the oxtail mac & cheese, octopus, prime rib, and squid ink lobster pasta. The oxtail mac & cheese portion was generous. It would be enough for a light eater. The smoked Gouda gave it a really nice touch. The cheese sauce tasted like It had some type of brown sauce:liquid and I really enjoyed that. The octopus was light and refreshing. It was paired with a few different vegetables and herb aïoli that brought the flavors together perfectly. The lobster squid ink pasta with saffron cream was somewhat disappointing because the lobster was a tad bit overcooked. Besides that I thought the flavors were quite nice. Lastly, my personal favorite was the smoked prime rib. As a red meat and steak lover I was satisfied with the prime ribs hint of smokiness, tender texture, and fat content. Finding Livestock at night can be hard if you're not using maps. The sign is understated but fits the vibes of the interior. It's dim lighting and definitely an adult place for dinner; no high chairs or kids menus, and this time we did have a young one in our party. It makes sense for the location though. The server was very nice and attentive. We were able to modify the selections as needed. He also noticed the lei on one of our party and correctly assumed we had a birthday, which was really sweet! The birthday person was so happy with their dessert and candle. EVERYONE loved the food. In addition to the boar bolognese, lamb skewers, and bread pudding that my husband and I shared, the rest of the party had prime rib, chicken pappardelle, lobster pasta, oxtail Mac and cheese, and the New York steak - with great reviews all around. The restaurant is so clean and the staff is lovely here. I sat at the bar with my friend since she loves the cocktails here. They definitely know how to make a good old fashioned here and it's not too bad for the price since they use good liqueur. I probably have an older review on here somewhere. But it's due for an update. So here goes: The wife and I have been coming to Livestock for years now. Have never been disappointed with anything we have tried from the seasonally changing menus. Most recently, the standout items we had were the Smoked Tako (octopus), which was so good I was tempted to order it a second time. For real. It was seasoned perfectly and cooked exquisitely. Also, the Brussels and Sunchokes were very, very good. Just a hint of the sunflower flavor which paired nicely with the grilled Brussels and bacon. And the balsamic glaze really cuts through nicely. And the "corn dog" special was venison sausage, which was very hearty and rich, while having a ton of nuanced complexity. The drinks we had, off of their whimsical themed seasonal drink list, were all great. I do wish they would build a comprehensive bourbon/whiskey/scotch list...so I didn't have to ask if they had some of my favorites. The entrees are always consistent. I'll spare everyone my TLDR review of them. Just suffice it to say, if you like lamb, the lamb is good. If you like chicken, the chicken is good. If you like prime rib....etc etc. like I said above, we have never been disappointed. read more

I thought it was a little dry, but the butter really made it. **Corn Dog (5/10) ~ On the menu this was described as something really posh and elevated, but it was sad. All it was, was an Arabiki Sausage as a corn dog. It didn't taste bad, but it was okay. Don't order it though unless you want an average corn dog. **Tavern Burger (8/10) ~ The only thing that was GOOD. The burger had a really good Smokey taste and the grilled onions really brought the burger together. The fries were okay, but overall not bad! Overall, It's really pricey here and the food is okay. Heard wonderful things about Livestock and was excited to try with a friend. We ordered drinks and food fairly quickly as the place was quite empty. After a while I started to wonder where out drinks (a soda and beer) were since I was watched the bartender put away silverware and talking story while we waited for our food. Our server comes with the food, I ask her can we please get out drinks.... She looks at me and says OH..... like I have bothered her by asking for the drinks that I assumed would like prior to our food. She went and had a conversation with the bartender, came back 2-3 minutes later set them down saying "Here"... No apology or explanation just rude looks for bothering her for our drinks. Nobody had even come in after us to be seated it was extremely slow so we just felt like the staff was irritated we came in to enjoy a meal. Such an uncomfortable and unwelcomung vibe it doesn't matter how decent the food. Will not be back and 8/10 do not recommend unless you do not mind the rude hipster vibes. read more

Lots of hearty comfort food. Not being American, I never understood the fuss about cornbread until I had it here. Still have sweet and spicy memories of it.
