We haven't eaten here in years. We asked about the gluten free lunch options and were told the baked salmon salad was our only option. The young lady that took our order said she would go back to the kitchen to be sure. While she was gone another server handed us a gluten free menu. The young lady returned and told us what was really gluten free on this menu. We ordered the baked salmon and jambalaya. I think the cost for both mealswas $50 ish. The food came out pretty quick. The baked salmon dish was super tasty. The salmon was laid on top of a bed of spinach. There was some salad dressing on the side that I didn't need to use. The jambalaya was a little plain as far as taste but had lots of seafood in it. We had a nice seat close to the pier. We talked to a few locals that thanked us for supporting the local pier of fisherman. I just loved this place.
Haven't been to Nico's for a while. I remember it was really good when we came a few years ago but what has happened? The food was very disappointing this time. We tried a few appetizers, entrees and desserts but none was memorable. Pan seared ahi has been my favorite and I was really looking forward to try it again. But my dish came lukewarm. The ahi was overcooked. The piece had so much tissues and was very chewy. I couldn't finish the whole dish. My husband got the cod but the fishy taste was so strong that it was a bit off putting . Maybe not enough seasoning? Truffle fries and crispy garlic chicken were fried for too long. Calamari and poke nachos were the only good dishes. Overall a very disappointing meals. Service was good though.

The akule fried fish looked great but I guess a little trickier to eat with the bones. Fisherman's stew was cute with the sourdough bread bowl. It can get a bit noisy of atmosphere with the outdoor environment and also have lunchtime live music.

Lunch menu has more variety and the dishes are done well (Blackened ahi sandwich is sooo good, truffle fries, chicken katsu ) This review is for the dinner service: Ambiance: it's a good view, it's right on the pier, and it's dog friendly. (4/5) Staff: Hostess - we asked to sit outside and asked for a table near the railings - she told us that the table wasn't available but it was available the entire time we were there and there were several other open tables. (3/5) Waiter: quick service (mostly) & friendly. But didn't refill our water or inquire - tbf he was covering a lot of tables.(4/5) Food: (5/5) Poke Nachos. Order these, you won't be disappointed. Creme Brûlée Cheesecake - this was so good. (4/5) Drink/After 7: I like when the presentation looks like the pic; This did not but it was delicious. (3/5) Garlic chicken bites / average - crunchy but a little bland Edamame / fresh but average Monchong (catch of the day) the fish was fresh but the seasoning was bland Steak fritters- the steak was well cooked and flavorful, but the fries were way over salted and tasted previously frozen. (2/5) The burger - the patties had too much filling and not enough "burger". I got the side salad instead of fries and it's just green leaf lettuce, a little wilted, withe house dressing, and the dressing is not great. Desert slices are small and cost 8.50-13.00 (go down the road to Liliha Bakery instead) Vanilla Caramel Crunch cake - there wasn't a real "crunch" and the caramel layer in the top is way too thick. Chocolate cake - too dense Mango cheesecake - too tart
We were very excited to visit Nico's as we had recently seen Nico on an episode of Guy's DDD. Nico's sits right on an active working fish pier, so if you sit outside, you can see all the activity as the fishermen prep for their next trip. There is also a chance to see the sunset. , We did secure a table on the covered patio and thoroughly enjoyed the early evening breeze and pre-dinner cocktails. Our dinner was OK. I ordered their catch of the day, and my ono with lobster sauce was a tad overcooked and dry. It was not dry to the point of returning it, but definitely overcooked. Plus 1 ordered the shrimp scampi pasta. The shrimp were sautéed perfectly, however the Parmesan garlic crème sauce was lacking flavor. , Based on all the 4 and 5-star reviews, our experience was probably a one-off, so if you are visiting, you should give Nico's a try. If you are seeking a more upscale dining experience, Nico has another restaurant next door, Nico's Upstars, which has a more French cuisine influence reflecting Nico's French roots.
This is such a cute little spot! My uncle took us here on a Tuesday and it was nice and chill. I believe we were here around 12-12:30 PM and it wasn't too packed. My family ordered Loco Moco, BBQ Chicken, Hamburger Steak and Chicken Cutlet. Everything tasted really good! I love how filling the dishes are. I got the Loco Moco and it came on a bed of rice with a side of chow mein and macaroni salad. Definitely a filling meal lol. Water is free, the staff is kind and parking is convenient in a big lot. My family were happy with their dishes and it's safe to say everyone left super full and ready for a food coma lol. The prices are fair for the amount of food. There is live music which gives the place such a nice charm. Outdoor seating by the water on a beautiful day added to the experience and I would totally come back :)
Last time I came here I was less than impressed. My fish smelled funny, and it was overcooked. This time was, however, a completely different experience. The photo cocky he was cooked to how I asked, the salad was fresh. The brown rice was a little on the dry side, but not too bad. Order service is friendly, but not sure what tip is for since you order a counter, pick up food, and bus your own table, lol. Has nice ambience with dark views, an amazingly very little to no flies. Parking can be a little tricky close by, but plenty closer to the street.
Second go at this place. Nice location w easy parking and a cool open layout. 5-6 is the time to come for 10% off food and live entertainment. Food sadly is just ok. Tried the poke sampler, calamari, crab dip, steamers and fish stew. All just ok. Fresh but not super seasoned.
Great spot with easy parking and nice views. We had the Ahi Sandwich - and while this picture doesn't make it look great... it was absolutely delicious!! A must try! The bread was soft and I think it had a wasabi aioli??? The ahi tho - WOW, perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The wine menu was not that great.... so if you are ok with just drinking beer, you'll be fine. Would I go back? maybe.... the menu was limited, so not sure what else I would want to try.
Nico's is a great place to stop for lunch. I enjoy being able to be semi outside mid day when I don't have much time to get outside due to work. I also love that there's live music and lots of locals seem to eat here also. I often order the furikake ahi, it's delicious and a good portion. Food comes pretty quickly and I also love that it's easy to park.
Walk-in, grab a menu and pick your table, then head to the register to order your food. This place has a great vibe. There's a gift shop and a full bar....sounds risky. I got the poke bowl, hubby got fish n chips. Food came out quick. The salad dressing was fresh and zippy, even quite umami. Quite delish - wait, not really... it's fricken awesome! The fish n chips came with one large filet of fish and chips. Not sure what kind of fish but it's dense and meaty. I took a bite and 'oh wow" escaped my full mouth. Great place, great food, definitely a place to come back to.

There are two sections to Nico's - a take out are where you can order poke, poke bowls, Hawaiian food, as well as fresh fish; also available are beer in a cooler and wine. Next door is a busy restaurant with a full bar. My sister and I wanted some poke and based on her friend's recommendation, we decided to visit. I ordered the special ultimate poke bowl (three fish selection) and it's amazing where there is more poke than rice! My sister's choice was also tasty. As we were checking out, the young cashier stated we could eat next door in the restaurant - wow, a pleasant surprise. It was during lunch so the restaurant was busy, but we found a seat. What's goes great with great fresh poke? Great fresh poke + beer, which was available at the bar! A great combination. Located off of Nimitz, Nico's is located on the far end of a converted warehouse, close to the pier, park and walk. It's worth visiting.
The waitress recommended the pulehu kabli ribs, that's what I got and it didn't disappoint. The Kabli came with rice, Kimchi, green beans and carrots.
Good eats, portion sizes, affordable, beautiful view, and live music. It's open air seating so it can get hot. Bring a portable fan. You order at the front as you enter, they will give you a buzer after you finish ordering. Try to ask for the menu before hand so you can decide what to get before you get to the front. I came with my brother and his family. Parking is free. I was deciding between the fried ahi belly and crab cake burger. I asked the cashier what she would choose from between the two and she suggested the crab cake burger. It's served on a brioche bun with spicy basiley, jardiniere spread, tomato and arugula and I asked to sub the french fries for salad. It was a good size crab cake. The briouche bun was soft. I also ordered a pepperoni pizza to share with my niece. It was okay, my niece gave her a two thumbs up approval. I wish they had a menu next the register for the dessert that was availble. I was suprised to see so many choices near the pick up area. I decided with the red velvet cake. It was moist, nice amount of frosting, and I would order it again. My brother ordered fresh poke from the fish market and it was so good! Seasoned well and so fresh. Overall, a great place that we will continue to enjoy. read more

Ended up here because the original place was closed (wrong business hour on the website). Process: Walk in. Order & pay at the registers on the left. Find a table - inside or outside. For outside, beware of the birds. When buzzed, pick up food. Self serve soft drinks & water. Eat. Put containers in the trash. Many people grabbed tables before ordering which slows the process for those who have already ordered. Ahi sandwich - Requested ahi cooked rare. It was overcooked. Almost cooked all the way through - ick. Fries - Too salty & no garlic flavor. They were hard, not crisp. read more

The food was amazing! The atmosphere was soo neat! You have to order at a counter and self serve your drinks. We were told no matter what the catch of the day was an amazing so we got it and the chicken katsu! Both were amazing! Fun restaurant. read more
Been here a few times. Food - 4/5 Ambiance 4/5 Service 4/5 Can get busy at different times. And if it is sunny out, you maybe stuck at a table under direct sunlight. Service is good but when busy, expect slower service. Food is good. I've tried a few items on the menu Ahi steak is highly recommended. Seasoned well and cooked perfectly - medium or medium rare. Salad or salad go well with it along with your rice Garlic shrimp is also very good. Very buttery and garlicky so for those of you that may be a deal breaker. But if you like garlic shrimp, go for it. Dessert is good as well. Plenty of variety. Peanut butter bar is good but very rich. Recommend sharing this with 2 or 3 ppl. Haven't had a bad dessert here either. Love music on certain times are a plus. read more

Located at Lier 38, a lot of free parking. They do not take reservations, so just walk in and wait. We went on a Wednesday around 6pm, a group of 10 people. This placed was packed with people. Open air set up, they have inside and outside seating areas. They also have life music, the guy sing for two hours non stop. Menu is simple, seafood, burger, salad, etc. plenty of drink options. The service was good, we had a great time dinning there, enjoying the music with light breeze come from the ocean. Recommended. read more
01/06/26- Happy New Year Everyone! Always a great meal here! Today it's Furikake pan seared ahi with brown rice and tossed salad for me! Our orders vary each time we come to Nico's. Today there is live music and hula! How nice! It's busy for a late Tuesday afternoon. The fish plate options here are always delicious and freshly made. You can't beat the taste! Ahi Tuna plate with mashed potatoes was the only solid thing on the menu. Not amazing but not terrible. 7/10 Fish bites 3/10. They were soggy and no crunch on the outside Fisherman's stew - 0/10 so small and not even tasty. Worse than clam chowder in a can French fries 4/10- similar to the ones at a diner. Thick and bleh. This place was awesome! A little bit for everyone. If you're a poke lover then walk into the fish market next door and choose from their 6 selection of poke. The Mai tai was awesome, but so was the chicken katsu, margarita pizza and burger. I will definitely return. Wanted to try the boat captain's fav the fish/clam chowder but I'll do that next time. There is just something about dinner by the water that automatically elevates the entire evening -- and Nico's Downstairs absolutely delivered for our Galentine's night. Laid-back, family-friendly, right near the pier, but still polished enough to feel like a proper night out. It's that perfect balance Honolulu does so well. We started off sharing a few appetizers (because that's what girls' nights are made for): Oysters Rockefeller -- perfectly baked, flavorful, and not overloaded. The texture was spot on, and a squeeze of lemon brightened everything beautifully. Edamame -- simple but done right. Lightly seasoned. Perfect for sharing while catching up. Truffle fries -- crispy, golden, and seasoned evenly. Not soggy, not overly oily. A solid order for the table. For mains: My friend ordered the prime rib plate and could not stop talking about how tender and flavorful it was. Generous portion, cooked beautifully, and paired well with the sides. Another friend had the shrimp scampi pasta, and it was rich and comforting without being heavy. The shrimp were plump, the sauce creamy and well-balanced. I went with the fish and chips, and this is where I was especially impressed. The batter was golden and crisp without being greasy, and the fish inside was flaky and fresh. Fries were seasoned and crunchy -- which, let's be honest, is not always guaranteed. And we absolutely had to order drinks. Refreshing, citrusy, and delicious. The kind of drinks that pair perfectly with a waterfront breeze. Service deserves its own moment -- our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and honest. If he didn't immediately know the answer to a menu question, he had no problem saying so and then promptly getting the correct information. That kind of transparency and follow-through goes a long way. Overall, the food was on point across the board. The vibe was relaxed but lively. The big fish wall makes for a fun photo op (which we obviously took advantage of). Five stars from me for consistency, flavor, service, and atmosphere. Will I go back? Absolutely. read more
We walked over to try this place and it was very crowded. When you walk in, you can take a menu at the table in the front. It's open seating so if there aren't any seats then you just have to wait. When you're ready to order, you go to the counter in the front to order and pay, and they give you a beeper so you can pick up your food when it's ready. I had the herb Dijon salmon salad but it was too much sauce for me. My husband got the seafood jambalaya and that was good. I would try just a poke bowl next time. The place itself is right on the water and there is live music so it's a nice relaxing vibe. read more
I've been coming to Nico's Pier 38 for a long time and the quality of the food is still there. The fish is fresh, flavors are solid, and overall it still tastes like the Nico's people know and like. No complaints about the actual cooking or freshness. That said, what's hard to overlook is the portion size compared to the price. I completely understand that costs go up and restaurants have to adjust. But you can't really reduce the portion size and raise the price at the same time without customers feeling it. The plate I got felt like about half of what it used to be, and it was roughly $3-4 more than before. That's a noticeable difference. At some point it stops feeling like a fair value, even if the food still tastes good. I don't mind paying more, or even getting a slightly smaller portion, but both together makes it tough to justify coming back as often. Quality is still solid, but the value just isn't what it used to be. read more
It's been a little while since ive been here but im happy to report that the food was tastier than I remembered, came out faster, and best of all, Portion sizes were huge! Ordered my usual ahi belly - must say that i think it doubled in size. Although the ahi belly was slightly overcooked, having the salsa is the best part. Perhaps needs more with the large fish portion. Next time I'll order a side of it. Tried the hamburger steak for the first time too. Delish! Also ordered their special hamachi kama. Also overcooked but ok since it came with sauce. Unfortunately they were tiny kama but had multiple pieces. From the poke side, of course we had to order handful of different poke. Those are always delish. Thankful they are dog friendly. Will be back soon! read more
This restaurant has an idyllic view of long line fishing boat docks and a lot of fresh seafood to show for it. They also have a little convenience store that serves fresh poke and oysters that I highly recommend. Nightly live entertainment as well. Don't skip the Hamachi Kama read more

Just or the fresh tuna, Ahi grilled and serve on a French baguette with spicy wasabi aioli and tomato and arugula. The sandwich is very tasty in my opinion. The ambience is really comfortable and everybody here is very friendly. But nothing beats the service that the bartenders gave, and it's an above and beyond what I'm used to highly recommend it! First review of 2026. Been here many times but it had been a minute since I've eaten here. I would usually get one of their daily special plates but decided to get the tried and true Fish & Chips on this occasion. Nico's fish & chips is still so good. I really like their fries here and the fish had great flavor by itself but I loved dipping it into the tartar sauce. I always forget to ask for extra tartar sauce cause I like dipping the fries in it too. Haha. Nico's is always a good choice when you're in town. Good mix of locals & tourists, the open air breeze was nice in the restaurant. I still need to try its sister restaurant Upstairs at Pier 38 for the more upscale dining experience. read more
We're back at Nico's again!!! Lay back local kinda vibe. This time my wife had the catch of the day which was Sheared Ahi topped with mushrooms and gravy. She was expecting mushroom with gravy but it was just mushroom gravy with no mushroom. The Ahi was sheared but with no seasoning so it was kinda bland. I had the Ahi Sandwich. My sandwich was nice and the French fries was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I enjoyed my lunch. As for my wife, she asked them to reword their sign. LOL The manager gave her a plate of fish and chips. One thing I was disappointed was there were no one entertaining. Bummers! Now I need to check out the gift shop before we leave. First time eating at Nico's and we had a great experience! We came on a Sunday night so it wasn't as busy. It was about a 5 minute wait and then we seated. I believe our server was Andrew and he made our time at Nico's awesome! He started off with drinks and dinner specials then proceeded with ordering the appetizers. We went with the edamame and the crab & artichoke dip. As the appetizers came out, we also ordered our entrees. I ordered the special - Crusted Ahi with a special garlic cream sauce. I got it medium rare. It was the first time i've been asked how i wanted my fish cooked which i had no clue. The other half ordered the Furikake Pan Seared Ahi. While we were waiting for the food, we decided to rip some Pokemon cards and Andrew (who also collects) provided us a bag for the empty wrappers and wished us good luck! It was a fun experience, and it was awesome we got to do it in the restaurant. After ripping, we got our entrees and wow the medium rare was so unique to me. It was crusty and cooked on the outside but once in the middle you had a raw ahi. Its kind of the best of both worlds. The garlic cream sauce was also tasty! The appetizers were also enjoyable and our little one loved the edamame. Lastly, we ordered some dessert and got their chocolate brownie with caramel and ice cream on the side. So Nico's is close to the airport and we were really hungry so this is a great first stop after a long flight. You aren't going here for the island vibe or scenery though since it's at a marina just as it suggests. This is a seat yourself establishment, where you grab your menu and order at the register. We found no trouble with seating and there is quite a bit. So there is really no service except the bartender who was nice enough. This the 3 star review for service and atmosphere. I ordered the Catch of the Day and a burger. The days catch was a panko crusted Ahi cut covered in a garlic gravy that was delicious. It also came with Mac salad and rice. The burger was solid but nothing unique about it. Lastly I ordered a very tasty Pier 38 punch cocktail with four different kinds of rum. At the End of the Day Nico's served its purpose but will not make the list of MUST have stops in Oahu! But I'd come back after a long flight again. read more
I'm in town for business and my coworker said to me hey you wanna go to lunch at a really nice place that has great food. I'm like yes, let's do it. It's in the harbor or the port rather where all the shipping containers are at and some fishing boats. Kind of an odd location but at the same time if you want to get fish, then no better places one that's located directly on the water. You do have a scenic view as you see in my picture and the facilities is really nice inside really set up for a lot of people inside there. They have live music, which is outstanding. A little pricey when it comes to food, but at the same time, I will say that the food was delicious. It is kind of oddly set up where you pay for your food first and then they give you a buzzer and then when it goes off and you go pick up your food in a cardboard, kind of box with plastic silverware so it kind of misses a little bit of the ambience that I was looking for which is you know if you're gonna pay $30 for a plate of food you would kind of expected maybe get silverware but I'm not gonna knock them for that I mean it is a nice place and with great food. read more

How's parking at Nico's?
Lots of parking options. Some stalls along the side of the building, a small dirt lot has stalls, and a bunch of stalls closer to Nimitz.
What time is happy hour?
Aloha Andrew, Although we don't offer a traditional happy hour, we'll be serving Pupus (Appetizers)…
Do they have a kids menu?
Aloha! We do have keiki friendly items but it's just not listed on the menu. Please ask any cashier/server and they'd be happy to tell you the selections! Mahalo.
Is there still a time limit when dining in?
The restaurant appears to operating at pre-covid capacity. It is open seating. If you need to host a party, I would recommend calling restaurant.
I have a party of 6 and would like to know if we arrived at 6pm on a Saturday. How long a wait time can we expect?
with a party of 6 I suggest you get reservations at Nico's Upstairs. That's prime time on a Saturday and I've waited an hour for table for 4.
This there still road construction going on at night?
Yes there is. It stare at 7:30 pm every night. It's still pretty easy to get in and out of.
Do we need a reservation?
No reservation needed. Just line up and place your order. Then they will hand you a transponder and thats when you find your seat. I'd suggest getting the seat first though because the line to order can be crowded.
Do you take reservations?

I wonder if you'll ever serve Michelob Ultra? Talking to different bar tenders there, they said a lot of people ask the same question. It's now very popular with locals & tourists alike. Hoping it happens. Would consider coming more often if so.

Is it possible to replace the hamburger bun with lettuce for "lettuce buns"?
Totally! We do it all the time. Just let your server or cashier know and they'll be more than happy to accommodate you.
How is the parking?
We have a huge free parking lot, including the dirt lot located in front of the restaurant as well as parallel parking located on the side.
Gluten free options?
Although all fish are gluten free be aware of the sauces used for that fish. The sauce may not be gluten free. They are wonderful over there so just ask.
Do they serve butterfish?
So on the regular menu the answer is no but I have to imagine that it would be on their specials rotation. We had a great dinner when we were here
When are you open at Thanksgiving day?
We will not be open Thanksgiving day but will be open regular hours the following day (6:30am till 9:00pm)
I saw in on a google search that dogs are allowed in the patio seating area, is this true?
Yes! Dogs are allowed outside in the patio area. We like to take our pups here after a hike & keep them on their leash.
