Always one of my favorite steakhouses for a special occasion. Their menu is pretty large with lots of steak options/specials/and enhancements. They also have a wide variety of starters including table side options for the caesar salad and warm spinach salad. We had the warm spinach salad which was yummy (as usual). We also had the seafood chowder and French onion soup and escargot. For mains I had the steak Oscar and boyfriend had the prime rib. Both came out how we wanted them prepared. Desert we shared the banana foster (I miss their cherries jubilee). Service was good- always refilling water and making sure we were satisfied with our food after first bites. Apparently this is Hy's 50th anniversary, and I hope they're around for another 50+ years! This was our first time here and we had a blast. They have some of the best customer service. We saw them setting up a table with leis and flowers for someone's special occasion. They even printed a custom note on our menu for our special occasion. See pic. OMG!!! Haven't been here in a while and this was a personal fave venue for decades! Mahalo to Tony (Assistant General Manager), Ariana (Director of Beverage), and Anakin (our server), chefs, staff, and valet, who came together and opened Hy's for a special meeting. They shared their newest menu options, which included a vegan pasta, fish piccata and flank steak. Salads were award winning, as was the trio of desserts (lilikoi crunch, chocolate decadence, and cheesecake, topped gold flakes, or with fruits and edible flowers! I had steak, of course, ahhh, and yum, the memories! Colleagues who had the vegan pasta said it was awesome, and I was too far away from the fish piccata to know, but I'm sure it was delish! This event allowed the members of MSRH to learn more from the American Heart Association, their community programs and their fundraisers, such as the Heart Ball and Heart Walk, which fund the many services they provide our Hawai'i Ohana. Did you know they have a third party venue relationship with Solera and Quiora with many options for dinner parties of any size, indoor and out, as well as private and semi private rooms? The private room where we had programs in the past is now a lobby, and the one we enjoyed our meeting in is fully private, well appointed, and has a mini service station in the room. There's also a tv screen with computer adaptability if you need to project a power point from your laptop. FYI You'll have to navigate two short steps of stairs, and they do have solid handrails to help you get there. Two sliding doors allow staff to enter discreetly if you have a speaker program, and the "emergency exit" slows with restroom access! Just remember to push down on the door "stopper" so you can return. (Be on good behavior, as the restroom is shared in the hotel lobby, with other guests who may be present in the lobby lounge.) My favorite fine dining restaurant and steak house! Great food, outstanding service, nice ambiance. Prices are a little high but that's what you expect from a fine dining restaurant. No need to worry about parking, your car will be taken care of by a valet. My starter is usually always French Onion Soup and entree is their Prime Rib with baked potato. I love creme brulee but most times we'll have one of their flambé that's done at your table. Hy's do have a dress code so if you're in doubt on what to wear, I suggest you give them a call. My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary and it was such a wonderful dinner! We ordered the crab cake and table side caesar salad as our starters. The crab cake was savory with delicious sauces on top. We were a bit surprised that it only came with one, especially since it was around $30 too but I guess that's fine dining portions haha. It was my first time seeing a Caesar salad being made table side so I thought it was cool to see and the salad was really good! For our entrees, I got the garlic steak and my boyfriend got the steak Oscar. We both enjoyed our dishes and the steak was cooked to our liking! We also got a side of the truffle king crab and mac and cheese and that was so creamy and delicious! For dessert, we ordered the bananas foster and it had a nice presentation when it was made! It was so yummy and paired really well with the vanilla ice cream. They also gave us a chocolate cake type of dessert too since it was our anniversary, and that tasted great as well. I have been going to Hy's Steak House for over 20 years and every time I visit has been a wonderful experience. The staff are the best -- they are the nicest, friendliest, most attentive people I've ever encountered in fine dining. The restaurant and staff even remember us when we visit! I always get either the New York or Filet Mignon, which are cooked just how you like and accompanied by freshly cooked vegetables and your choice of starch. I get their baked potato, which comes with toppings if your choice. They have salads that are prepared at your table side, which is a nice touch to the dining experience. I always recommend Hy's for those wanting to celebrate a special occasion or just enjoy a really good steak. Vibe: The ambiance is immaculate. The antique furnishings provide a regal atmosphere as you're able to either enjoy watching their small bar on the second floor or the grill master cooking the steaks on the first floor (behind a glass wall so that the smoke doesn't fill the restaurant). My favorite place for steak and go to place for celebrations. I usually order the Prime Rib but this time was a special celebration. I opted to share the Waygu Tomahawk with my fiancée. Service: Our server was Jason and he was the best! You can't forget other servers and bussers, they were a team. Jason was so funny and personable. My family and I were celebrating my engagement and he would make fun jokes throughout the night. We had the perfect seats where we could see the chef cooking out food. It was so cool seeing how he cooked the meat & how flawless he was too. Food: The food is always so good. The tomahawk was cooked to perfect with just the right amount of seasonings. Dessert: We ordered the banana foster and apple streusel too. Since it was later in the night both Jason and his server friend cooked them in front of us at the same time. Hy's is an interesting place. Some of my friends think the steaks are amazing. I went a long time ago and I can't remember much about it. Therefore when I got the invitation to go again, I was looking forward to it! Waze/Google Maps guided me to Hy's and even though I was looking for it, I missed it. I turned when the maps said to turn and ended going up a valet ramp which dead ended in a place where you can't turn around. The valet guy came out and said he would "do me a favor" and let me park for $10 as long as I picked up before 10p (it was 8p). I could just go down the elevator and walk next door to Hy's. OK. I found out this was some kind of hotel and it made me nervous that they seemed to close the front after 9pm and I would have to try and ring in to ask to go back up to the valet. I found out why I missed Hy's, they have a sign, but it's not lit and it's easy to miss the entrance and Hy's is a little ways into the driveway. As I sat down, I mentioned the missed entrance and my party also said they missed it but turned around and was glad to find the FREE VALET! Well..... darn it. Whatever. Hy's looks like the typical steak place - dark and carpeted and woody. I heard a guitar and it was my friend Vernon Sakata who is an excellent guitarist!!! One of the best in the islands! That was a massive plus! We ordered and the service was good. To me, the prices were on the high side. $95 for a New York steak is somewhat high for Hawaii, but this was supposed to be one of the best so OK! I considered getting the Porterhouse for 2 for $208 but my wife likes the steak cooked differently from me, so we ordered separately. After a while it was apparent that dinner was not going to finish before 10pm, so I needed to get my car. I walked over and paid the guy, drove back to Hy's only to find one valet working and it took a while to park. By that time everyone had their food. I took one look at the steak and it looked very bland. No crust, very little on it, no sizzling platter or anything. The vegetables looked plain -just different colors of cauliflower and broccoli. The baked potato was ok. When I cut into the steak it was ok, the cook was fine but it wasn't particularly tender or juicy. I think this is the way it is supposed to be and therefore why I didn't remember anything about it long ago. I think it's a steak from a restaurant like 30 years ago. Contrast that to the other newer steak places now - great crust, juicy, well seasoned and yet up to $25 cheaper for a better tasting steak. In this respect Hy's falls way behind. Overall, I get it. It's an upscale place with a reputation for being expensive and having good service and great live music. (Audy Kimura was there for a long time too). It's a place to take people and impress them. I only wish the food was better and they could light up that sign. And don't make the same mistake I did by going one driveway too much and going up the valet ramp - it will cost you $10! read more

I hesitate to leave a review like this because I always try to give local businesses the benefit of the doubt, and I genuinely hope this is received as constructive criticism. Unfortunately, judging by other reviews mentioning very similar concerns, and subsequent responses from management, it doesn't seem much has improved. I guess bottom line is all that matters. No shame at all. Was actually shocked to see positive reviews to be honest! How can? Well here goes... Very, very disappointed with the quality of the food, especially considering the reputation and premium pricing attached to the restaurant. The presentation honestly reminded me of how Sizzler used to plate their dishes, nothing about it reflected a true fine dining experience.  To be fair, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, professional, and friendly throughout the evening. The restaurant ambiance was also what you would expect from an upscale steakhouse. Unfortunately, the food simply did not match the atmosphere or the prices. At nearly an $1800 tab, we got ripped off. I actually ate at Jack in the Box after!Crazy! The 10oz Prime Rib at nearly $81 was extremely thin and mostly fat. The lobster tail was as big as a dollar bill. Not even joking. The 15oz Delmonico $98 steak was an even bigger disappointment, anemic in appearance, tough, and lacking the quality you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. My expectations for this "fine dining" experience ended up falling below the standards of several chain steakhouses I've visited. At these price points, the food quality should be exceptional, not mediocre. As it stands, I personally would not risk dining here again unless management truly makes serious improvements to the quality and consistency of the food. The management team needs to step up their game in a big way. But I doubt this will fall on listening ears. Ugh. I guess the pretty good reviews keep the management engaged and positive. Amazing. I had booked this place after hearing so many recommendations from family here in HI. It was the last dinner of our stay here in hawaii and it happened to be my birthday dinner as well with my husband and kids. The service you get begins when you walk to the door until you leave the door I can see why this place is what it is. The decor is very fitting of a legit steak house, but if you want a short version think of haunted mansion-type feel without the spookiness just history behind its walls and our sever Romnick who gave a brief history of why the steakhouse is the way it is. His team who I apologize forgot their names, who also helped my family out were so professional, but also warm and accommodating to our little humans we brought with us, acknowledging their presence even if some other guests thought otherwise. The team were quick to fill water glasses, pick up napkins my daughter would drop (she's 11 months), always try to interact with my 3-year old son, and always asking if we needed anything cleared out while passing our table to serve another. Even the table side salad and desserts Romnick would interact with us and explain what he is doing and the ingredients he uses while making the Cesar salad or Chocolate lovers dessert keeps you engaged. The food was pretty good, my filet mignon was a little bit more on the rarer side than medium but it was okay, seasoned beautifully and cut like buttah. I appreciate the plate was accompanied by a starch and veggies because some places just have a steak on a plate and thats it. I didnt need any other premium sides. Came by here on a Sunday night for dinner. Our server T was amazing, giving us great recommendations and was so incredibly helpful. We started with appetizers to include the scallops, Caesar salad, escargot, and potato pavé (special appetizer). Also ordered some truffle fries to accompany. Scallops were tasty and tender. Escargot was good as usual. Caesar salad was a little more sour than usual--I think the dressing was a little overpowering. Potato pavé was good too! But could alwaysssss use more caviar ;) ! For entrees, we enjoyed the surf and turf and New York Wagyu (special) along with a side of truffle fries. Steaks were cooked perfectly along with the lobster tails. Truffle fries were alright, it was small for a $20 portion and honestly the truffle taste wasn't too strong. Finally, we ended with the apple streusel. We enjoyed this last time however this time around, the apples were still a bit crunchy, and the toppings were a little too hard. Celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary, we decided on Hy's. It is tried and true with superior service and exquisite steaks and chops. We started our evening with a shared Waldorf salad, poached shrimp with pineapple salsa and cocktail sauce, and my favorite French onion soup. Jerrell, our waiter, was personable and friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed a petit chocolate cake as a complimentary anniversary dessert. We went to Hys last night for our last night in Oahu on vacation.. It's right up there with the best American steakhouses I've been to. The Wagyu 30 oz. Bone in ribeye was one of the specials last night and I had to get it. It had tons of flavor with that classic melt in your mouth wagyu texture. Tons of flavor too. They cook over charcoal at Hys and you can tell in the flavor of the steak. Way more flavor than your typical oven cooked steak. Atmosphere was traditional old world style. Tons of class. Service was also as good as it gets. I had the Cesar salad and Bananas Foster. They're both prepared table-side by the server. Really cool experience watching the table side preparation. Bananas Foster was out of this world good too! I would absolutely get that again if I come back. This was a home run all the way around!! The world food tour duo made their last stop of 2025 at Hy's Steakhouse. The better half of the duo will be spending Christmas in Japan, so we had a pre-Christmas celebration on December 13th. We thought there was a special menu, but we found their normal menu, with three steak specials. I ordered a 2020 Kenzo Estate Rindo ($200), a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This was a rich, complex wine with a nose of plum, black fruit and spice. Kenzo makes some of our favorite wines and this was a "steal" at $200 (as it costs $140 from Kenzo). We chose Escargot a la Hy's ($30), with a rich butter sauce and a loaf of herb bread. We dipped pieces of the bread into butter sauce. Next, a Warm Spinach Salad for two ($46), prepared tableside. The dressing was perfect, over spinach leaves, pieces of smoked bacon and slices of Crimini mushrooms. This was one of the best spinach salads I've had. Our entrees were the Slow Roasted Prime Rib (10oz, $81) and the 12oz NY Strip ($95) with Foie Gras ($28). We added Grilled Asparagus with Hollandaise ($18). Both meat dishes were tender and flavorful ... I think NY Strip steaks have more flavor than the more tender ribeye. We took a lot of food home. We were gifted a plate of small desserts ... That proved enough for both of us ... Had we ordered any dessert, it would have ended up in a takeout container. I ended our meal with a cup of coffee. This was a great meal with superlative service by Jerrell and Anthony. Hy's is arguably the best steakhouse in Honolulu. We thoroughly enjoyed our pre-Christmas meal ... Came here for a friend's birthday and it blew our expectations away. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and "stately"/elegant, so do come prepared to dress business casual at the "low" end so you're fitting in with other clientele. Food was great, although very pricey if you look at the menu, so that was the only downside. Shout out to Trevor who was pleasant and on top of it. We had some special family in from Japan and they wanted to eat steak so we took them to Hy's Steak House. It was a large party so we ordered a lot of appetizers, wine, drinks and desserts. Our waiter was okay but he was a bit jumpy, didn't look you in the eye, but there was lots of support staff that kept our food coming and plates cleared away. We had escargot which was delicious, and the Maine scallops, caprese salad. For entrees most had the filet (lots of light eaters) but there were a couple of surf and turf, and a couple split the porterhouse for two. To celebrate we ordered all three of the flambe desserts, the chocolate lovers, apple streusel, and bananas foster, so we had quite the show. There were two waiters that kept us and the rest of the dining room entertained. A couple of birthdays were also celebrated so they brought out small cakes with candles which was very nicely presented. All in all it was a wonderful evening. We had a great holiday dinner at Hy's. We started with bread, oysters, and cocktail shrimp -- the oysters were fresh, but the shrimp were honestly just okay. The Caesar salad (2 orders for 4 people) was solid and easy to share. We also tried the lobster bisque and French onion soup. Both had good flavor, but they were pretty salty for our taste. The tomahawk wasn't our first time having it, but Hy's still makes it so well. Perfect sear, juicy, and definitely the highlight of the meal. Dessert with the apple, ice cream, and coffee combo was surprisingly perfect and ended the night on a really good note. Came here for my girlfriend's birthday dinner and honestly it just didn't hit the way we expected. Service was really slow the whole night and there were a few mistakes with our order. The Caesar salad was supposed to be made tableside first, but the waiter forgot, so we ended up getting our entrées before it. He only made the Caesar afterward, which threw the pacing of the meal off even more. On top of that, the entrées didn't all come out at once, and there were a bunch of smaller things like that throughout the night that just added up. I work in the food industry so I try to be pretty understanding, but for the price, it just didn't feel worth it. The steak also didn't really have much flavor, which was disappointing. I don't want to single out any staff member, but the whole experience felt a bit unorganized, especially for a birthday dinner we were trying to make special. Hopefully it was just an off night, because the place itself has potential, but this visit just didn't match the price or the occasion. read more

I know this place is in Waikiki but as one of the premiere high end steakhouses in Hawaii I was disappointed. Service was fantastic. I can't say that enough. From the valet (only valet parking is available and it's validated - remember to still tip!), to the hosts, to our servers and busers, service was wonderful. Staff were quick, attentive and friendly. Inside is pretty amazing. Decorated like a classic steakhouse it was anything but casual. And the space was much larger than anticipated! It was a maze of rooms getting to our table. Food was just so so and that's why my review is 3 stars. Escargot appetizer was fine but nothing special. As the restaurants signature app I expected it to be better or at least more unique. The soup of the day happened to be a lobster bisque and while they piled the lobster on (yum) the soup itself was not very good. For our mains we ordered the dry aged rib eye and the steak au poivre. The dry aged steak was extremely disappointing! It lacked flavor and was full of grissle. Definitely not worth ordering it and definitely not worth the price! The steak au poivre was better than the rib eye but again nothing special. For dessert we got the crème brulee and that was good but honestly the homemade whipped cream was the most delicious part. read more

Walking into Hy's Steak House feels like walking into elegance. Immediately you are greeted and escorted to your table. The all wood walls and dimly lit light provide a comfortable and romantic dining experience. Our server, T, along with the other servers were very prompt and helpful. We brought our one year old and she was being true to her age. They went out of their way to help with our daughter and make sure we were enjoying our time. We decided to do the 4 course meal and everything was very tasty. The French Onion Soup was great and the portion made sense for the entirety of the meal. The tableside Caesar salad is a must try! I decided to get the Wellington and my Wife ordered the NY Strip. Both were very good and great portions. The biggest standout for me was the table side Bananas Foster. Definitely on my list of favorite desserts I have had at a restaurant. Its very simple but it is executed beautifully and was the perfect way to end our meal. Overall, yes the steakhouse is pricey but I believe that it executes very well on providing the service to match the price. Eating at a steakhouse like this is for special occasions and it is definitely a memorable experience. Still thinking about that Bananas Fosters. The portion size for the 4 course filled up a former college defensive lineman to the point where I took half of my main course to go. The servers are amazing- I take a sip of water, they refill it; i go to the bathroom, my napkins refolded. They are very detailed oriented and took great care of us. The food was amazing all around. Their cheese bread is soo good, but don't get full off of it. I liked their table side salad & was tasty. The beef wellington was perfectly cooked and i wish I could eat it again right now. This is famous in Waikiki and a must experience. The service is impeccable. Dining room is very lovely and all the waiters are in tuxes. There is a dress code for men and women. Had a very romantic booth in a small room with 2 booths. Started with my go to drink blanco patron with pineapple juice shaken with a splash of lime. Made to perfection. Started with escargot appetizer. It was one of the best. Garlicky and buttery, comes with warm bread. Gotta dip your bread in the leftover garlic butter. The cheesy bread that comes at the table is good, like a grilled cheese sandwich. Order the French onion soup and they split it for us. Very good but a bit salty. We have French onion soup everywhere we go. This was 3.5/5. Again it needed sweeter onions and it was salty. Next Caesar salad tableside. It was good but way too much Parmesan that made it very salty. I would say they need to measure the amount of parm. Hubby had all the croutons and I had all the lettuce. Again better portions. Next ordered the 15oz prime rib. Veggie and lobster Mac and cheese. The prime rib I ordered med rare plus and it was definitely rare. Was very flavorful. The lobster Mac and cheese was the best part of the meal. Cheese pull was on point. The cauliflower, brocolli veggie mix was excellent. Good crunch and flavorful. Ordered the passion fruit creme brûlée. It was an early birthday so they gave us a comped brownie dessert. Both were good, the creme brûlée was delicious and so balanced. Overall an experience and the service was the best. Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Food 4/5 So if I could would give it 4.5/5 overall. read more

4th time dining here and the food never disappoints. The waiter we had this time was not as personable and fun to talk to as other waiters we had in the past, but the food runners are always super friendly and our water glass was never empty! We chose one of their pre-selected menus and paid $375. Delmonico steak was so juicy and tender. French Onion Soup was super cheesy. Scallops were good too. Hy's is definitely my favorite steakhouse on O'ahu. Although it is pricey, the service and food quality is top notch. I love that we were seated close to where the steaks are cooked - the chef is in a glass room and he even poses if you take a picture lol. The ambiance is quite posh. Another wonderful experience @ Hy's Steak house . Had dinner with my sister and brother in law for my sister belated birthday celebration. I ordered their prime rib which no complaints every time . Along with a crab cake appetizer. My sister had the lobster tail which she loved . Brother in law had a half a rack of lamb. Service was on point always around when needed something . We went to celebrate an 85th birthday. Steaks were perfect and appetizers were wonderful. We started out with French onion soup and escargot. Everyone ordered their own steaks which were delicious. We ended the night with sharing both desserts done table side. Cherries Jubilee and Bananas Foster. There was a long (45 min) wait from the appetizer to our steaks. Pretty good food. The service was good, but the dining room was packed. I know they're trying to maximize space and revenue but it was a lot more pleasant when the restaurant cleared out. I don't remember it being so packed in the past. Hy's is supposed to be a premium experience but much of the details were lacking. For example, the steak may have been good but the knives were not sharp so they tore at the meat! Multiple people on our table needed to ask for new steak knives because they were so dull. Hy's is a fine dining restaurant. We usually go here if we want to celebrate something. Lately it's been pretty inconsistent with its flavors and portions. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's bad. Our latest visit we got the 10oz prime rib. It was thin and it doesn't look like 10oz. Sometimes they gave us string beans and carrots for the vegetables, other times they gave us zucchini and bell pepper. The flavor was good though. The crab cake was what disappointing. There used to be two crab cakes with a pine nut topping and white creamy sauce. One of the best crab cakes I've tried changed so much. Now it's only one small crab cake with what looks like sriracha sauce. read more

T was our server and our group had a great time! My partner loved the beef Wellington, and T's wine recommendations and food and wine pairings, course menu, special Snake River farms filet, Durnham ranch NY strip, black truffle garlic butter with steaks, tableside Caesar salad, T'a attention to detail and infinite knowledge were amazing! This review is specifically about Julie, the host, who provided the poorest hosting experience I have ever encountered. I had reserved two seats at the bar. When we arrived, Julie took my husband and me to the bar but seated us at the worst possible seats, despite the bar being completely empty at the time. We were placed with our backs to the restaurant and facing the entrance, which made no sense given the availability. I politely asked if we could move to other seats that offered a better view. She stated that those seats were "reserved." However, about 10 minutes later, two guests arrived, were seated elsewhere in the restaurant, and then came over and took the very seats we had been told were unavailable. The interaction felt unnecessarily controlling and dismissive, with no effort to be accommodating or thoughtful toward guests who had made a reservation. My husband and I travel extensively and dine out often, and this was one of the least considerate hosting experiences we've ever had. A host sets the tone for a restaurant, and unfortunately, this experience left a very poor impression read more

I reserved Hy's for a very special occasion and was left pretty disappointed with the food. On the contrary our server was very sweet and attentive. ***What we ordered ~ **Yuzu Cutie (10/10) ~ This cocktail was very zesty and refreshing! It honestly tasted like juice and I'm glad I got this. **Escargot (7/10) ~ This Escargot was a little small, but it was seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. However, the herb focaccia that they bake in house wasn't that good. It was a little dry and lacked the herb seasoning. **Table Side Caesar Salad (4/10) ~ It tasted more like water than anything else. I would say this salad was for more of a show rather than taste. I wouldn't recommend it. **Beef Wellington (8/10) ~ This was delicious, but very rich. It went really well with the truffle sauce. However, the sides that it came with were very lackluster and not appetizing. The mash potatoes had the texture similar to play dough and the vegetables came out a little cold.. but the Wellington was great! **Hy's Special: Hybrid Black Body Diamond Cut (?) (1/10) ~ This was edible, but honestly this was by far one of the worst ribeye's I've ever had. I originally asked for it medium, but it came rare. We ended up sending it back to kitchen for it to come back medium rare... so at that point we've just given up. If we were to send it back to get cooked more the outside would of been burnt lol. Anyways, this ribeye was VERY chewy and under seasoned. It's terrible PLEASE DO NOT GET. **Panna Cotta (9/10) ~ This was very delicious. I thought presentation was a bit questionable. Since for Panna Cotta you would normally have the fruit syrup on top of the pudding, but it's fine. This was good sweet treat to end the night if you are looking for something refreshing, zesty, and light. Overall, The restaurant is very pretty, the servers are nice, but the food was terrible. Also I thought it was a little odd, but I reserved Hy's 2 weeks in advanced and stated that it was for a birthday. Normally, you would assume that they would at least give the birthday person a slice of cake, or put a candle on a desert. That NEVER happened. We noticed that the table sitting across from us received a crème brûlée with a candle in it for their celebration which my partner and I both thought was odd. We also mentioned to the server twice that we were here for a birthday.. Anyways, I would not come back here again. The price is ridiculous for the quality being terrible and the experience being mediocre. If this is a famous steakhouse, you would expect it to be amazing, but it fell so low. read more
