It's breakfast / brunch -- we as a large group of nine were hungry and also didn't want to wait an hour. We came across Basalt, asked the server about the wait time. Within a few minutes, our table was ready. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Due to the sunny weather and humidity, we choose outdoor seating. It was very humid but there was a slight breeze here and there. It was a bit loud due to the cars passing by / close to the garage entrance and other people walking by. But overall, the ambiance is simple and expected for outdoor seating. We had ordered several entrees and we shared so it was a nice mixed of food. We had three of the sandwiches, pancakes, ribs, salad and pasta. The food was delicious but my favorite would be the garlic chicken sandwich and charcoal buttermilk pancakes. Lovely meal and experience, would definitely recommend. There is something on the menu for everyone. Looking forward to dining here, again!

Last night was my last night in Waikiki and I wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner. I had been a few years back for breakfast and remembered the food being delicious. I sat at the bar and was promptly greeted by the bartender. He was friendly and served me a water while I looked at the drink menu. I ended up getting the Maui Brewing Company Pineapple Hana. It is one of my favorites. I then showed my allergy card and asked if the bartender can show this to the chef and see if there was anything I could eat. If not I would have a couple of drinks. I was excited that he came back with a couple options. I decided on the gnocchi with spinach, tomato sauce, and sausage. It usually comes with eggplant, but I was unable eat it. It was delicious and I ate the entire dish! The vibe of Basalt is amazing as well. There were people watching the World Cup. I truly enjoyed my dinner there. I highly recommend you check it out m

It had been a while since my last visit, and this time I decided to try their happy hour (2-5 pm, with the last food order at 4:30 pm, available only at the bar counter). There were several people seated at the bar and only one bartender working, but he was efficient and attentive. I ordered one of the well drinks, which I wasn't familiar with. The kind bartender explained that it's simply a basic liquor mixed with something like soda. I ended up having a vodka tonic, and it was nice and strong. For food, I tried the Baked Mussels (Lup cheong sausage and mayo-crusted green-lip mussels) and the Lilikoi Chicken Wings (passion fruit-glazed mid-joint wings with sesame seeds). The mussels were cooked perfectly. I didn't really notice the taste of the sausage, but that didn't bother me since I mainly wanted to enjoy the flavor of the mussels. The wings were good as well, though they were very sticky, so I wish they had provided wet napkins. Overall, I enjoyed both the drinks and the food. It's a nice, quick, and reasonably priced spot to grab a bite in the middle of the busy Waikiki area.

The ambiance is busy and noisy due to its location but wasn't an issue, just a fact. The service was great and the servers knew the menu well and have recommendations The food menu is somewhat limited but good options nonetheless. My favorite are the charcoal pancakes. Sooooooo good. I've come many times and will continue because it's nice to sit outside and have a nice breakfast

I had a nice breakfast here. Service was good and breakfast was tasty. I went in with expectations that everything in the area will be priced at a Waikiki cost so I felt the money paid was worth it. When walking by a few times, I was surprised to see this place nearly empty. Give them a chance and you'll be satisfied.

Happy hour is from 2-5pm daily and is only offered at the bar (bummer, because it looks like they have a nice outdoor area...) The prices on the HH drinks were good and I'm always glad when they have local beers on draft. However, I was pretty underwhelmed by the food. Garlic chicken sliders: Instead of having one piece of chicken, it was multiple small pieces of chicken, which means they kept falling out of the sandwich. They were also soft - and so was the mac salad on the sandwich, so there was no textural contrast. It probably would've been much better if the chicken was crispy. Garlic soy fries: Interesting shape! They were crispy on the outside but were sitting in the sauce, so they could get soggy if they sat too long. Overall it just felt like everything was a touch too sweet and needed a hit of acid or salt or something to punch it up.

Rodd helped me plan my mom's 60th birthday dinner here at Basalt and they exceeded in impressing all 14 people! They helped me curate a 3 course menu that fit perfectly with our group and the the pricing was more than fair for the amount and quality of the food we received. I have to give huge props to Rodd and his team, especially our waitress Bina, for such an outstanding job. We all enjoyed everything, from the salad starters down to our desserts, everything was perfect! Our meal started off with the house salad, perfectly dressed & great size for an app. Then our guests had 3 items to choose from: fish, chicken or gnocchi with sausage. I chose the fresh catch of the day which was marlin. It did not disappoint. Loooved the cook on it. It came with veggies and white rice and was perfectly portioned. I tasted the chicken and the gravy was amazing along with the mashed potatoes. Loved how lightly the skin was fried. Also tasted the gnocchi which was really flavorful as well. The third course was a dessert option of a mochi brownie or POG (Passfruit, Orange & Guava) mousse. Both options were great as it provided a chocolate and non-chocolate dessert. I liked the brownie the best! Everyone had nothing but great things to say about their meals. I definitely recommend Basalt for any occasion! Appreciate Rodd, Bina and everyone at Basalt in creating a memorable experience for my mom's birthday. Thank you times a thousand!

Had a wonderful brunch at Basalt. I had a tasty skillet mixed with steak, French fries, and over easy eggs. My dish had alot of personality. My dessert was a fruit mousse cake slice that was flavorful and different from the usual chocolate mousse served in most restaurants. The service was very courteous and prompt.

The charcoal pancakes are an absolute must try - soft & fluffy, delicious, and visually appealing! The loco moco portion here is a bit smaller compared to other restaurants (but sized right for a moderate appetite), but it was packed with more flavor, very delish. Nice service. Would return to try other items on the menu. If driving, you can park at the Hyatt Hotel 6th floor and Basalt can validate it for 3 hrs. We ended up shopping around the area a bit longer so we had to pay for an extra 1.5-2 hrs of parking, which ended up being like $12.

Price: $30 per person for brunch. $$. For touristy area, it is not bad. 4 stars. Ambiance: modern, nice dining area with outdoor seating. 4 stars. Location: in the heart of Waikiki, part of the Hyatt Centric complex, on Kuhio street. I believe you can get parking validated at the Hyatt Centric. It is kinda interesting Location since it shares space with a convenience store. So you can do some grocery shopping afterwards. 4 stars. Meals: we only came here for brunch. So, menu is limited. We got salmon toast and loco moco. Both are very tasty. 4 stars. Service: so so. It was not busy on a Thursday morning. There were about 3 small parties. It took 15 min to place order and another 20 min to get our meals... I know, it's island time! Regular coffee with unlimited refill: $5 each. Orange juice $6 Loco moco $20 Salmon toast with side salad $25 It's not a cheap eat but does not burn a hole in your wallet either.

I sampled my friend's fish dish and this was delicious and I think I liked it better than what I got. I wish that the side that they used for the carbs wasn't potatoes and maybe a rice option? They brought some sort of fried fish ball that had a pretty good spicy tartar sauce that everyone on our table was fighting over. Overall, I think the food wasn't something I would come back for, but the service was astounding - especially when someone on our table did not like the drink they ordered - our waitress offered to take it back and serve her another drink that she hopefully liked. Taste, presentation, service, ambiance -- MĀZE really had it all nailed down. If there's one meal you should book for your trip, make it MĀZE. Although the menu looks short, it is deceptively filling. You start off your meal with a few amuse bouche bites. It's really a wonderful start, because the salmon toast was one of the best bites I had all night. The smoked salmon was melt in your mouth tender and the toast was fried to perfection. Another bite I really enjoyed early on was their "Fat bastard" oyster. I've never had this type of oyster before, but this one was especially plump, sweet, and had just the right amount of brininess to it. There's honestly not a single straightforward bite across the courses: everything has layers upon layers of flavor and a complexity that really accentuates the talent of the head chef. After the first course, there's an option to add a supplemental course for $34 -- a "Wagyu musubi". I cannot emphasize enough that this addition is a must. If you're coming as a couple, it's large enough that you're able to share a single one so that each person gets two bites. This bite is as delicious as it looks. The Wagyu is rich and fatty, and the crispy nori is the textural element that breaks up the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the beef. The tare delicately brushed on top adds a bit of saltiness to the dish and doesn't take away from the enjoyment and appreciation of the Wagyu itself. Another bite that I'll forever remember is the Jeju abalone dish. Served over a bed of finely minced edamame and served in a chicken jus, the dish had sweet, savory, umami, and all the right textures. I ate this dish especially slowly because I wanted to savor each and every bite for as long as possible. The abalone is tender and cooked perfectly -- not rubbery whatsoever. I overheard a chef saying that the tasting menu changes every month, and we had visited when they were mid-cycle. I believe some of the permanent menu items include the bourbon barrel smoked salmon toast and the wagyu musubi, but I really hope to see the Jeju abalone dish again someday when I visit in the future. Since MĀZE is from the the duo behind the famous cocktail bar -- Bar Leather Apron, just down the street, you would expect nothing less than extraordinary cocktails for the cocktail pairing. I can confidently say that there was not a single drink pairing that I was disappointed with -- both on the alcoholic and non-alcoholic side. My favorite cocktail of the night was their take on an Old Fashioned that was served with the Washugyu flat iron galbi course. I simply cannot say enough good things about MĀZE. Do yourself a favor and book a reservation right after you book your plan tickets to Oahu -- you won't regret it.

So glad I went with the cocktail pairing bc I wanted the whole experience. It was really lovely and fun to sit at the counter watching all the young people assemble the food so carefully and our bartender craft our drinks. Each drink was perfect - either refreshing or light or sweet or smoky and really did complement each dish. My fave was the egg white gin one that came with the fish course. My fave foods were the charred lettuce that came with the meat course and the shave ice was superb - corn syrup and plenty of black sesame it was not too sweet and so refreshing! Overall a very special meal and a place to keep in the rotation for special occasions. I'd say definitely go with the cocktail pairings bc that is what makes this place unique. Also if you want to get some courses with a mocktail instead of getting all four as cocktails they will accommodate that - then you don't need to get as tipsy. I wanted to try all the cocktails so I just didn't end up finishing each drink - not bc they weren't delicious, they were! I just didn't want to go past pleasantly buzzed. We didn't get any add ons and were still full by the end of the meal. Clean bathrooms and bright space and awesome service. Not a single misstep.

I had the chance to dine at Scratch Kitchen in Kapolei back in 2024 for a special Mother's Day…read morelunch with my youngest daughter. I'd never been to their other locations, so this was my first experience -- and honestly, it left an impression. That spot in Kapolei has seen a few restaurants come and go over the years. Before Scratch Kitchen, there was Sugar Cane, and if I reach far enough back, I'm pretty sure a Mexican restaurant lived there too. It's one of those spaces where you hope the next place finally sticks. But the food at Scratch Kitchen? Absolutely delicious. The kind of meal where the pictures alone make your mouth water. If "smell‑a‑vision" or "lick‑your‑screen" technology existed, everyone would understand exactly what I mean. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully done, and perfect for a Mother's Day treat. Which is why I can't help but wonder what happened -- like so many restaurants before them in that same location. With food that good, you'd hope they'd be the ones to break the cycle. All in all, I'm grateful I got to enjoy that meal with my daughter. It was memorable, delicious, and one of those small moments you hold onto. Marie

Either way, it made for a super relaxed experience with no wait and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the food. Loved: The street tacos with the tempura shrimp were easily the star of the meal. 100% worth it. Light, crispy shrimp with a flavorful slaw and just the right amount of heat--basically a flavor party in every bite. The burger was another quiet star. Juicy patties, nicely seasoned, and stacked just right. Nothing super flashy, but really satisfying. Definitely a good pick if you're not in the mood for brunchy stuff. The Miss: Tried the French toast and... meh. It looked great on the plate but tasted dry and definitely didn't live up to the level of the other dishes. Might've just been an off day or a matter of personal taste, but I'd skip it next time.
