Oh my. I love it here. I'm so glad my friend recommended this place. The prime rib was delicious and generous. It was tender and soft but not to the point you can cut with your knife. Service was amazing. It does get crowded even beginning of opening hours. They try to make it high end dining. I just love it. I would come here again. It's handicapped friendly but the restroom is another thing. The doors are heavy but one person helped me out. So good customer service. It's a fancy place so I wouldn't dress in beach clothes. Well the food was fancy.
It's breakfast / brunch -- we as a large group of nine were hungry and also didn't want to wait an hour. We came across Basalt, asked the server about the wait time. Within a few minutes, our table was ready. The staff were very attentive and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Due to the sunny weather and humidity, we choose outdoor seating. It was very humid but there was a slight breeze here and there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a bit loud due to the cars passing by / close to the garage entrance and other people walking by.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]But overall, the ambiance is simple and expected for outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had ordered several entrees and we shared so it was a nice mixed of food. We had three of the sandwiches, pancakes, ribs, salad and pasta. The food was delicious but my favorite would be the garlic chicken sandwich and charcoal buttermilk pancakes. Lovely meal and experience, would definitely recommend. There is something on the menu for everyone. Looking forward to dining here, again!
We came to Basalt tonight to celebrate my birthday. It was my first time here and after tonight's meal.....I want to come here again. First things first, park at the Hyatt Centric parking lot. Dining at Basalt gets you three hours of FREE parking. Cautionary statement: Watch the corners as you enter and exit. The lanes are skinny and you have to pay attention. Ok, onto the dinner. We skipped appetizers and went straight for dinner. Prime Rib for me, pasta with shrimp for the gf. Both were on point. The prime rib was seasoned perfectly and the pasta had choke shrimp (see pic) and garlic. To top it off, I got a free slice of chocolate mousse cake with fresh berries. I got a coconut sorbet on the side and the kitchen staff threw in free arare cookies. Which leads me into the most important point I want to make here. The service was awesome. Everyone from the hostess who seated us, to our server Candace, and the two women that served us....all gave great service. They were very nice and treated us great. We are definitely coming back to try their other menu items. Plus if you are kama'aina, you get 10% knocked off the bill. Cheeeeehooooo
We arrived around 9:40 a.m. on a Tuesday during the summer and were seated right away with no wait. The host and waitstaff were very attentive and welcoming throughout our visit. Our waitress, Brina, was especially kind and helpful. She recommended ordering the short stack instead of a side of pancakes, and it turned out to be the perfect amount for everyone at our table to share. The steak fries were absolutely delicious, and every dish we ordered was excellent. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathrooms were clean, and the outdoor dining area was beautiful and well maintained.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This was our first time dining at Basalt, and we had a wonderful experience. We'll definitely be coming back!
Delicious food! Especially the Basalt Breakfast and Avocado Toast. The Beef Shakusha was tasty but too salty for me. The Basalt Breakfast serving was so generous. Indoor AC or outdoor seating. Great service. Reservations accepted on Open Table. Parking at the Hyatt Centric Hotel- valet on Kuhio Ave or self parking via Seaside Ave. (one way street towards the mountain).

I was impressed by the service. Although the restaurant was busy (as we came in a group of 10 people), the server got our orders, served drinks and food very fast and effectively. The food was classic, but diverse and delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, I enjoyed visiting the restaurant.
It had been a while since my last visit, and this time I decided to try their happy hour (2-5 pm, with the last food order at 4:30 pm, available only at the bar counter). There were several people seated at the bar and only one bartender working, but he was efficient and attentive. I ordered one of the well drinks, which I wasn't familiar with. The kind bartender explained that it's simply a basic liquor mixed with something like soda. I ended up having a vodka tonic, and it was nice and strong. For food, I tried the Baked Mussels (Lup cheong sausage and mayo-crusted green-lip mussels) and the Lilikoi Chicken Wings (passion fruit-glazed mid-joint wings with sesame seeds). The mussels were cooked perfectly. I didn't really notice the taste of the sausage, but that didn't bother me since I mainly wanted to enjoy the flavor of the mussels. The wings were good as well, though they were very sticky, so I wish they had provided wet napkins. Overall, I enjoyed both the drinks and the food. It's a nice, quick, and reasonably priced spot to grab a bite in the middle of the busy Waikiki area.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Happy hour is from 2-5pm daily and is only offered at the bar (bummer, because it looks like they have a nice outdoor area...)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The prices on the HH drinks were good and I'm always glad when they have local beers on draft. However, I was pretty underwhelmed by the food. Garlic chicken sliders: Instead of having one piece of chicken, it was multiple small pieces of chicken, which means they kept falling out of the sandwich. They were also soft - and so was the mac salad on the sandwich, so there was no textural contrast. It probably would've been much better if the chicken was crispy. Garlic soy fries: Interesting shape! They were crispy on the outside but were sitting in the sauce, so they could get soggy if they sat too long. Overall it just felt like everything was a touch too sweet and needed a hit of acid or salt or something to punch it up.
I had a nice breakfast here. Service was good and breakfast was tasty. I went in with expectations that everything in the area will be priced at a Waikiki cost so I felt the money paid was worth it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When walking by a few times, I was surprised to see this place nearly empty.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Give them a chance and you'll be satisfied.

Rodd helped me plan my mom's 60th birthday dinner here at Basalt and they exceeded in impressing all 14 people! They helped me curate a 3 course menu that fit perfectly with our group and the the pricing was more than fair for the amount and quality of the food we received. I have to give huge props to Rodd and his team, especially our waitress Bina, for such an outstanding job. We all enjoyed everything, from the salad starters down to our desserts, everything was perfect! Our meal started off with the house salad, perfectly dressed & great size for an app. Then our guests had 3 items to choose from: fish, chicken or gnocchi with sausage. I chose the fresh catch of the day which was marlin. It did not disappoint. Loooved the cook on it. It came with veggies and white rice and was perfectly portioned. I tasted the chicken and the gravy was amazing along with the mashed potatoes. Loved how lightly the skin was fried. Also tasted the gnocchi which was really flavorful as well. The third course was a dessert option of a mochi brownie or POG (Passfruit, Orange & Guava) mousse. Both options were great as it provided a chocolate and non-chocolate dessert. I liked the brownie the best! Everyone had nothing but great things to say about their meals. I definitely recommend Basalt for any occasion! Appreciate Rodd, Bina and everyone at Basalt in creating a memorable experience for my mom's birthday. Thank you times a thousand!

Hadn't been to Basalt in many years. Had ocassion to revisit when a friend of mine, who read my previous review, wanted to experience. So we came. And boy were we both blown away (so much so that I believe she returned the next day with others!). The menu had been completely revamped and seemed to take on a more local influence while still being very upscale. Since we both enjoy "sampling" we shared two appetizer and a main. Everything was bursting with flavor! This is what we had: Starter salad from the seasonal menu of watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and greens served on a bed of yuzu infused goat cheese and drizzled with a shiso chimmichuri sauce. Yes, bursting with flavor! I would return for just this dish! Next shared was a tempura battered cauliflower served with a robust curry and yogurt reduction. Deeeelicious. I wouldn't say we licked the plate... but I won't deny it. Hahah. Finally shared the seafood in curry soup (think a lighter version of laksa) served with white rice on the side. Holy moly. No words to describe. Portions were generous enough to share still next time, I won't. That memorable you won't want to share. No longer serving volcano black rolls, tho absolutely serving amazingly wonderful dishes. Volcano black pancakes still available at breakfast. We kept on oooing and ahhhing and asking about the chef. Our servers Gale and Lily, who provided the most awesome service told us "Chef Lance" (as he is affectionately called) moved over from the Mariposa (Restaurant in Neiman Marcus) over a year ago. Further research revealed Chef Lance Kosaka has brought experience from noteworthy restaurants: Top of Waikiki, Merriman's, 53 By the Sea, and most recently Mariposa. I am hoping he will bring in a notable creme brulee that I loved at both the Top as well as Mariposa! Not wanting the deliciousness of Chef Steve's cooking to end, I also ordered a warabi salad to go for the next day. It was...just as wonderful as the other dishes we enjoyed. Thank you to Servers Gale and Lily, Chef Steve, actually...the entire staff who elevated a casual evening of dining to be a most memorable experience! Thank you to sister friend Karen who insisted we dine here, for the most wonderful company and meal. Validated parking in the building accessed on Seaside. Validated for either 2 or 3 hours depending on the promotion. Kamaaina discount of 10 percent given. Will we be back? Absolutely. And I won't wait so long this time to return! read more

Basalt was my favourite restaurant in Waikiki that I tried during my visit (from Los Angeles). [[HIGHLIGHT]]Chic and attractive space (a little on the upscale side, so don't tromp in straight off the beach).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Stellar service from the hostess, bartender, and servers. My cocktail was delicious. And my sandwich was amazing: the garlic chicken hoagie, topped with macaroni salad. My only nit to pick is that, while the fries were tasty, I wish I could have had a larger portion of the salad as my side dish. The chicken was great, but the macaroni salad was incredible. I scraped it off to eat separately. The plate also came with a little dish of sweet pickles, which complemented the rich chicken and mac salad nicely. The attached market is also a little more posh than the thousands of ABC stores, so take a spin through after you eat. There's also a coffee stand and a flatbread place, but the pièce de résistance of this marketplace is definitely Basalt. read more

Had a wonderful brunch at Basalt. I had a tasty skillet mixed with steak, French fries, and over easy eggs. My dish had alot of personality. My dessert was a fruit mousse cake slice that was flavorful and different from the usual chocolate mousse served in most restaurants. The service was very courteous and prompt. read more

Another recommendation on the Hyatt Centric website and located in Duke's Marketplace, this place is a gem. The prime rib and beef carpaccio were excellent, highly recommend. We were celebrating a birthday and they printed a Happy Birthday menu, a nice gesture that shows they love their customers. If you're a guest at the Hyatt Centric, make sure to tell them for a free crab cake! read more
Last night was my last night in Waikiki and I wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner. I had been a few years back for breakfast and remembered the food being delicious. I sat at the bar and was promptly greeted by the bartender. He was friendly and served me a water while I looked at the drink menu. I ended up getting the Maui Brewing Company Pineapple Hana. It is one of my favorites. I then showed my allergy card and asked if the bartender can show this to the chef and see if there was anything I could eat. If not I would have a couple of drinks. I was excited that he came back with a couple options. I decided on the gnocchi with spinach, tomato sauce, and sausage. It usually comes with eggplant, but I was unable eat it. The charcoal pancakes are an absolute must try - soft & fluffy, delicious, and visually appealing! The loco moco portion here is a bit smaller compared to other restaurants (but sized right for a moderate appetite), but it was packed with more flavor, very delish. Nice service. Would return to try other items on the menu. If driving, you can park at the Hyatt Hotel 6th floor and Basalt can validate it for 3 hrs. We ended up shopping around the area a bit longer so we had to pay for an extra 1.5-2 hrs of parking, which ended up being like $12. read more
Price: $30 per person for brunch. $$. For touristy area, it is not bad. 4 stars. Ambiance: modern, nice dining area with outdoor seating. 4 stars. Location: in the heart of Waikiki, part of the Hyatt Centric complex, on Kuhio street. I believe you can get parking validated at the Hyatt Centric. It is kinda interesting Location since it shares space with a convenience store. So you can do some grocery shopping afterwards. 4 stars. Meals: we only came here for brunch. So, menu is limited. We got salmon toast and loco moco. Both are very tasty. 4 stars. Service: so so. It was not busy on a Thursday morning. There were about 3 small parties. It took 15 min to place order and another 20 min to get our meals... I know, it's island time! Regular coffee with unlimited refill: $5 each. First of all the food here is absolutely delicious! My favorite dishes were the Loco moco, the Basalt breakfast, and the glorious Charcoal pancakes! The waitress was so kind and showed us the most popular and delicious dishes on their menu. They had a had a nice background ambiance. We got seated almost immediately and they had the food brought out so quickly that I didn't even had the time to take a sip of my water! Overall ll I give this place a nice five stars! read more

A little sad that they switched their menus and a chef change. My favorite item before was the wagyu loco moco, which they now swap out for a pork loco moco to be different. If comparing the wagyu loco moco to the pork, the wagyu was far superior. But if comparing a pork loco moco, which is different from the rest of the strip, it's good. Cooked perfectly. They still had similar items, like the charcoal pancakes, and a few other items. The menu is still affordable for most items. But with the swap of the loco moco, it will definitely deter me from coming often, or at all. The wagyu loco moco was my favorite on the strip. Please bring it back! read more

Friendly service. Location is inside a mall type with other businesses and restaurants. There is seating indoor and outdoor. More of a casual dining place I loved the variety of the dinner menu and the Asian twist on items. I shared the prime rib with my coworker as well as shared appetizers with the table- perfect amount of food. The bruschetta and the carpaccio were so tasty! Prime rib was also really nicely cooked. We saw an ad about this restaurant and decided to go. We loved it! We had the lomo saltado and it's the best I've ever had! We also tried the tuna and a dessert; everything was simply delicious We also ordered some drinks and they were pretty good as well. I definitely recommend this place, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is relaxing and it's just nice to have the option to be indoor or outdoor. We've had a wonderful experience every time we've come to Basalt! The food is consistently amazing my personal favorite is the charcoal pork buns but honestly, everything we tried was delicious. Don't skip the complimentary bread and butter they serve before the meal so good we had to ask for more! Our first visit we sat indoors and the second time we chose to sit outside. Both were nice, but I personally preferred the indoor seating it's quieter and free from the traffic noise and little bugs. The staff was so warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Service was excellent both times. I already can't wait to come back and try their famous charcoal pancakes next time! We parked at the International Market Place if you're unsure where to park, I recommend calling ahead for guidance. Definitely a must visit if you're in Waikiki and looking for a spot with great vibes, lovely service, and memorable food! :)) read more
The five of us went for dinner and shared everything family-style. As you walk in, there's a good-sized bar with big-screen TVs up front, while the open kitchen and main dining area sit tucked toward the back. The space has a modern industrial look with high ceilings and a comfortable elegant vibe. It's Waikīkī, so the dress code is super casual. The menu? Comfort classics with an elevated twist -- Hawai'i Regional Cuisine infused with Pacific Rim and an Italian influence. Executive Chef Lance Kosaka, a Honolulu native and Kapiʻolani Community College alum, cut his teeth with the legendary Alan Wong. Favorites of the night: * Pan-Roasted Half Chicken -- Incredibly tender, with a velvety chicken jus that had rich, layered depth. Classic, comforting, and beautifully executed. * Vietnamese Bruschetta -- Very unique. A long slice of focaccia topped with chicken liver pâté, grilled lemongrass pork, jalapeño, pickled carrot and daikon, and cilantro. Think Banh Mi meets bruschetta. The pâté was smooth and slightly rich with none of that metallic aftertaste -- and the pickled veggies cut through the richness perfectly. The Seared Ahi came out perfectly medium rare, tender and fresh. I wasn't a fan of the kai choy purée -- its sharp, peppery flavor needed a little fat to soften the edge. But the brunoise of shiitake, eryngii, bok choy, and onion was pan-seared to a wonderful golden brown and added an amazing layer of umami on top of the fish. Prime Rib was the only letdown -- a bit dry, over-salted, and not as tender as you'd hope for in a prime rib cut. Also the temperature could've been a bit warmer. The new menu at Basalt is a little smaller, but so delicious! We got the Prime Rib Sandwich and Beef Stew Shakshuka. The sandwich meat and bread were so soft and delicious. The beef stew was very rich and flavorful, going perfectly with the sourdough bread provided on the side. Service: One thing I didn't care for was that we had a change of waitresses and the first older blonde woman waitress cut us off mid sentence to start talking to her coworker while making hand gestures and ignoring us, then, without saying anything, she left. Although I LOVE the waitress who helped us in her place whose name was Candace -- she was very attentive, quick, and friendly. Vibe: They have indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered the lomo saltado breakfast, it was basically fries saltado. Meaning very little meat. And a whole lot of fries. I brought awareness to the waiter and they told me they were going to bring me a side, then the manager came over and said it was 4oz of meat and he was sorry I felt that way, since I said "it is very little meat". They didn't bring me the meat either. I suggested they add the weight to the menu he said he wasn't going to do that but rather instruct the waiters to educate customers when they choose it's the taste was very good though. Basalt is a hidden gem in Waikiki. I was supposed to meet some out of town friends for dinner but thing came up that they couldn't make it. Well, since I made the reservation and drove through the crazy traffic to Waikiki, I decided to eat here anyway. I started with a refreshing mocktail. The restaurant complimented the yuzu crab cake. It was a nice surprise and delicious. I don't turn down good food . I ordered the steamed clams with Chinese sausage. The toast was perfectly crispy to soak up the sauce after. I had the seared Ahi and rice for the main dish. The seared ahi was perfectly cooked and still rare in the middle. Personally I would like it charred a little more outside but still rare inside. For dessert, I had the calamansi tart. It was the tangy deliciousness. The tart shell could be more crispier and it would have been perfect. The service was great. The wait staff was very attentive.
