This place should be a 5, but the construction, plastic tarp covers really kills it. Nonstop jackhammers and construction sounds, I bet it's way better without all of it. However, dang The coconut shrimp, amazing and big. The marinade sauce was lovely, the tenders are good. Very few complaints on this place. Even the dairy free dessert, so delightful and not heavy at all. This place has it going on. Just a shame, the ambiance was pretty bad
This is obviously a popular spot, and their hour-plus waitlists are proof. After my visit I really can't understand why. I guess the main reason people visit Duke's is for the ambiance and ocean-side views, but we were seated in the interior side-area of the dining room (underneath a dripping AC vent) so all we could judge it by was the food and the service. Neither are anything to write home about. The menu is pricey, which isn't exactly a shocker for Waikiki, but there was nothing I ate or saw that felt even remotely worth its price tag. We ordered the teriyaki sirloin with the salad bar add-on, and it was mediocre at best. The salad bar was concerning. Toppings were largely not stocked, many items looked as if they had been sitting out in the humid air for a long time, and overall cleanliness of the space was questionable. A peek over at the hot buffet (that they charge $60+ for) and it looked even worse. While my sirloin was passable, the mashed potatoes accompanying it were cold and we wondered if those had been scooped from the buffet bar onto our plates as well. Between the water constantly dripping on me from above and the less-than-stellar food, you can't help but feel a certain dinginess of the whole experience. To make things worse, the service does nothing to save Duke's. From the start, the host seemed annoyed we wanted to add our name to the waitlist. Then after an hour and a half wait, they seemed even more annoyed we came back. After getting seated, we did some more waiting, and waiting, and waiting until we were greeted by our server. To be fair, our server was very nice, but he seemed overwhelmed with his section, and I get the impression they are all spread a bit thin. Our food, as well as the others' around us who didn't order the buffet, took a very long time to come out. At the end, we were asked how we felt about our meal. We said things were alright and our server insisted that he could tell we didn't enjoy it and that we could be "honest" with him. We mentioned the salad bar and the freshness of the food to him, and he just said that the food was usually fresh and that maybe the humid weather was the reason things were not right. Considering he had no interest in actually acknowledging our concerns, I wonder why he even asked us what we thought was wrong in the first place. All of this to say, I've had better dining experiences at a Denny's than at Duke's. Surely there are better beachside restaurants than this in Waikiki. Definitely save yourself the wait on this spot, and even if there's no wait, save yourself the disappointment. The problems here are beyond just being a tourist trap.
This place is absolute staple of Waikiki. Hula pie is a must have if celebrating anything. Massive, but disappears quickly!
Drinks only! On my quest to find the best Mai Thais we had to stop at Dukes! We know Dukes from Malibu but decided to see how this one compared. What we found is that the drinks are pretty comparable: one thing that may be different is the use of fresh juices rather than can in Cali. Dukes Mai Thais tend to be light in alcohol so you go here more for the experience. As for ambiance: it's a big dark inside unless you grab a seat along the edge facing the water. The air is a bit stagnant. It gets warm inside. What we didn't like was the bar does not use a dishwasher. The staff were handwashing the glassware. The wash was so quick that it did not seem sanitary. This kinda gross me off. After seeing this I didn't want another drink! Cheers!
A classic Waikiki spot we always come back to! We always make a stop at Duke's when we visit Oahu. We love the laid-back atmosphere, especially on the bar side. We've had the famous buffet before, but most of the time we prefer to come in from the beach, grab a drink and some food, and just hang out. This time we sat outside and enjoyed a drink--I had the Duke's Blonde--and some fish tacos. The tacos were fresh and light, which was just what I needed after a beach day. The menu has a pretty good variety with appetizers, salads, handhelds, and more, so there's something for everyone. The service is always top notch, even though you seat yourself. They also have some specials throughout the week, including Taco Tuesdays and Prime Rib Buffet Thursdays. And there's live music every day! Of course, you can't leave without getting Kimo's Original Hula Pie! It's a must-have every time. It comes with its own special plate and utensil, and it's HUGE. Duke's is definitely a classic, but it's a classic for a reason.

I just found this out recently, from searching Instagram on Duke's, I've been at Duke's for the breakfast buffet, breakfast, lunch but not for the lunch buffet. I really enjoy the breakfast buffet, loved all the items they have available on the buffet line and I believe it was $27. such a great deal because one entree alone coast around this much, here you get a variety. Lets talk about the lunch buffet and my most recent visit playing tourist walking in to Waikiki to explore and have lunch. We got our table without a wait for reservation, they were pretty busy! Duke's is located at the Outrigger Hotel which is going through renovations. Sitting down and looking out the beach and the atmosphere sort of reminds me of Mama's Fish House on Maui, like County and City vibe. Our young waiter was so awesome, he share some info. about the buffet and I was being nosy and asked him, he loved and enjoys working in paradise . We got everything we needed for our buffet lunch and he did stop by to check on us to see if we needed anything else. The lunch buffet is $33. 10% discount for Kama'aina, use to be 20%. Really such a great deal, The buffet comes with the main entree rice, fried rice, kalbi, kalua pork/cabbage, teriyaki chiken and garlic shrimp. Salad station, fruits, corn chowder and even a poke bar, create your own poke bowl. Me & the hubby enjoyed our lunch, we were full on the first plate tried to squeeze in more foods. I wish I like poke so I can make a poke bowl too but I suggest to other half to get his share in for the poke but he only could go on the first round. hehe. Our lunch was great, everything on our plate was so tasty! For dessert, we must have the Hula Pie, ice cream cake with macadamia nuts- so GOOD and what a treat! Totally recommend, you really get your bangs for your bucks here if you consider and in the mood for the lunch buffet. I really got my local foods in.
Played tourist and it was well worth it!! Duke's is a great spot and always busy. With an amazing view and rumored mud pie to die for, it's hype definitely spreads and people return time and time again. This was not my 1st visit either. A great friend was in town and asked for delicious, non-fried fish, tacos preferably, and I thought - of course, someone visiting Waikiki for the 1st time, this would be a great option! Service was fantastic and we learned afterward that our person was in training. No way!! We ordered cocktails, beer, and shared the poke tacos, and the Cajun tacos. Amazing. We opted to skip dessert but did witness a couple near us going for it. . .down to the last drop.
Duke's is worth stopping at for the atmosphere more than anything. We sat at the bar, had a Mai Tai, and listened to the live music, which made for such a fun Waikiki experience. Our bartender was incredibly friendly, and you could tell he genuinely loved his job and helping people have that classic aloha experience. That really made the visit feel special. The Mai Tai was amazing, and you really can't beat the setting. I'd absolutely come back for a drink, live music, and the vibe rather than making it a destination specifically for the food.
One of the expensive and the worst commercial restaurant that have been to during my recent times everything over there is expensive. The service was terrible. They were very cold. They did not give us attention to the detail did not help us with the menu was very slow service not greeted well, and the prices are outstanding be high. I gave one star because of the ambulance. It's right in front of the beach. The food was really bad just because you were celebrating a birthday. We had some request, but none of the request for our followed.
Service was excellent and they have a great brunch buffet. They also have the best poke tacos I've ever had in my life. The front entrance throws you off as they have construction happening.
We were here with family on the evening before my Niece's Wedding. We weren't able to make a reservation, but the staff did everything they could to accommodate us. We were seated out on the Patio and although our group was big, we recieved the best service. The food was also very good. I had the Fish Tacos, which had really good flavor and the fish was flaky and juicy. The ambiance couldn't have been better for the occasion. There was a local artists playing live music and at Sunset, the tiki torches were lit. With the beach next to us, it made for a very special, unforgettable night. A special thank you to everyone who made this night so special for us. We also stayed for a while and we were never rushed out or forgotten. Duke's is absolutely a 5/5!!!!
Duke's is always our first stop when we're in Hawaii! The food is amazing, the views are beautiful, and the service is always top-notch. There's nothing better than enjoying a great meal with that gorgeous Waikiki view. We've been coming back because Duke's never disappoints. If you're visiting Hawaii, this is definitely a must-stop!

Last night in town and decided to return to Dukes for their dinner. Our waiter Travis MADE the experience. Food was great, wait time was less than 5 minutes, but Travis was the highlight of the night! So kind, personable, helpful, friendly ... REAL hospitality. The staff is always nice but he truly stood out. Just wanted to give him a shoutout of appreciation for making our last night in town, our anniversary, special! Now the prime rib? Chef's kiss!! And we were surprised to enjoy a beautiful firework show on a Tuesday night. We thought they only occurred on fridays at the Hilton, but this was a nice treat, right on the beach in front of Dukes! The restaurant's setup is a little weird to me. There are two different menus for two different dining areas, which are literally steps from each other. I wanted the menu items from one dining area but wanted to sit in the other area. Ugh! Anyway, we dined in the bar area and ordered ribs, fish tacos and calamari. The ribs were delicious! Fish tacos were OK! The calamari was an absolute no no! The service - A+- the staff was kind and friendly Location - A+ - beautiful views of Waikiki beach My favorite- Duke's blond beer - so freaking good!!! Wait time - B - we had to linger around about 10 minutes until someone left their table. Definitely recommend but beware of the calamari. read more
Everyone told us Duke's Waikiki is a must-try in Oahu, so we gave it a go! From our Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel it's a ~$15 taxi ride away. But since we ate a lot there we happily walked back. Food (4 stars) + The lunch buffet is $33 for adults and $17 for kids, which is a pretty fair deal given that my resort meal burgers were like $30! + Kimo's Original Hula Pie dessert is iconic--macadamia nut ice cream, fudge, and cookie crust--5 stars. It's sweet and some may say overly, but in the best way. + The shrimp (lightly fried) was a standout--crispy, flavorful, and easily 4 stars. + The poke station was fresh and fun, with a server adding toppings--4 stars for that too. They have the standard fishes of ahi, mahi and salmon. Was the server necessary? Probably not but I thought its a nice touch. ~ Chicken teriyaki was fine, though my daughter wasn't a fan--I'd say 3.5 stars. ~ The beef (I think it was boneless kalbi?) was flavorful but a bit tough--3.5 stars. Service/Ambiance (4.5 stars) + Our server was excellent--water always topped off, and staff was plentiful. + Tropical beach resort vibes all around, and ots really close to the beach which is very inviting. - A bit tricky to find due to construction and location inside a hotel, but I imagine that's temporary. Overall, a solid 4 stars. I might return for dinner someday, but for lunch, the buffet is definitely the way to go! read more
It was a busy day and came upon this place for a late night meal. We sat ourselves and it took a while for a staff member to bring us menus. Once greeted, I ordered the fish and chips. It was underwhelming but did the job since I hadn't eaten since earlier that morning. The fish was very dry. My husband ordered Dukes Nachos. He said they were really good. It was live music so it was really loud but cool atmosphere. read more

We liked the atmosphere. There was live music and the outside seating was comfortable. We sat in the bar area and there was no wait for a table. Our waitress was helpful and friendly. The fish was delicious and the asparagus was cooked to perfection! My husband's steak was tough to chew, but the potatoes were so tasty!! The beer was not cold and refreshing. We had to add ice cubes. read more

There was a wait, some of the staff were super friendly, some were straight to the point. I'm from Houston where the food is phenomenal & this food just seemed over priced. Our table shared multiple dishes & none stood out. The dessert was good but if you're traveling I think there are other restaurants worth your money! Ambiance was nice but it was rainy so that makes it musty! I think this place is a tourist trap in my opinion read more
I am going to start with the good stuff.... Very pleasant and attentive staff, great location, beautiful sunny day, and the Hula Pie, which is delicious. The food was average, mostly burgers and tacos on the menu, with limited fresh seafood options. Tasty but small $20 drinks ouch! Duke's seems to be going the way of Chart House relying too much on their amazing locations and great ambiance. Need to focus a little more on the quality of the food. read more

Duke's it's always my go to spot. The food is fantastic here. We are going through a kitchen remodel so it's a little awkward, but they have a buffet for breakfast lunch and it's reasonable and you get all that you can eat Poke. Which is excellent. It's right on the beach too so you can't ask for anything better. read more
Always have a great experience at Duke's. We've eaten at the Duke's in Maui several times and have always enjoyed it. They serve a ton of people but they are always friendly and accommodating. Nice, casual setting. Krissie, our server, did a wonderful job as we had eight folks at our table. We had the calamari appetizer which was very good. I had the Huli Huli chicken which was good. I couldn't finish it as I had to save room for a Hula Pie! My wife had the prime rib and it was excellent. Mashed potatoes and asparagus were tasty. Oh, and the gift shop has clothes at a reasonable price compared to other clothing shops in Honolulu. AND THE HULA PIE!!!!!! read more
This is a must hit spot. They have an indoor menu and an outdoor menu. The indoor menu is more upscale likes steaks but the outdoor menu is like sandwiches and burgers. Bother options are good, they do have a wait for the outside usually but they have a section a little back from the water that is free game. I'd recommend this place as the food and views were good! read more
Duke's is a Waikiki must-go for any trip and there are many reviews to attest to that! Four stars for being a solid choice and my new review is for the back patio bar restaurant experience. I had gone recently and it had been over ten years since my last visit to Duke's. It still has that charm and allure I remember. The musical artists are really talented here on the back patio area and it seems music started up at 7pm shortly arriving. The menu is a more casual than the steak oriented menu of the main restaurant. I had the coconut shrimp basket which had some pretty tasty jumbo and flakey shrimp. The portion was decently sized, but the main attraction was the sunset view. It had a little spot where you could walk out to the beach, so that was a nice place to take the end of the sunset in after dinner. Nothing bad to say really, just a star discount for the wait area and the back patio for feeling a bit overcrowded. I'd recommend it to anyone to at least go once to Duke's, but make sure to make a reservation or stop by the hostess stand before 6pm on most days if you are looking to catch the sunset from here. read more

Great experience! If you're visiting Oahu, it's definitely worth it to try Duke's in Waikiki at least once! Food was delicious with BIG portions, so make sure you come hungry. The ambiance is fun and lively, but also a great place to chill. The best part is if you're lucky, you can sit next to live music! Service was quick, and staff are very friendly. Food prices are a bit higher here, but worth it for the experience, especially if you get seated on the beach. Definitely recommend making reservations because this place gets busy!! read more

First meal since landing and was definitely a great way to start our trip. The views are beautiful and our waitress was so kind. Though the buffet looked delicious, we decided to pick ala carte over the buffet. I ordered the chicken katsu blt and my bf ordered the burger. Both were so delicious and was even better when you pair it with ranch! We loved it so much we came back another time a few days later. We ordered the bento box, which came with miso yaki salmon and beef. Absolutely delicious too!! read more

Check this place out if you are in the area. The Mai Tai is a good starter while you take in the sandy beach area if you are sitting outside. We had the coconut shrimp to start with pickled veggies. Had an outstanding birthday dinner at Duke's Waikiki. It was filet mignon medium rare with a broiled lobster tail, mashed potatoes and a Chervil cream sauce. My family also had the vegetarian ravioli, and Keiki teriyaki chicken with rice. All dishes were outstanding and they provided a mud pie for my birthday dessert. Our server was patient, accommodating and refilled our drinks without being asked (that's my pet peeve, lol). We had to wait about an hour because we didn't have reservations. So we took a little stroll in Waikiki and did some window shopping while we waited. They also have a souvenir store at Duke's where they have cool t-shirts and other merch. There's plenty of seating and a bar and it has an old school nostalgia that beckons you from all the old photos on the wall. Very much a tiki lounge feel but with class. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal that was moderately priced but for Waikiki, probably on par. Overall, the best meal while we are in Oahu for the week. read more

Hi! I'm having trouble figuring out the difference between sitting in the regular Duke's seating or the Barefoot Bar. I understand that the Barefoot Bar is a bit less expensive and doesn't take reservations. Otherwise, how do they differ for dinner?
Two totally different styles of eateries. One is a restaurant and the other is a bar that serves food but focuses on drinks.

No. I can't think of any restaurant I've been to in the last three years on island that did.

They don't say it, but you won't get a table walking in on a regular day. On a holiday, you must make a reservation.
