Weston expertly crafted our cocktails and engaged in great conversation. Very cool place, with speakeasy vibes.

This speakeasy is so much fun!! The entrance is cool and incognito! Loved the ambiance upon entering! They make you feel like you've teleported into the 80's! We love siting at the bar or out back where you can smoke a cigar! YES A DEDICATED CIGAR AREA! They sell them too! The drinks were made with so much attention to detail! The craftsmanship is second to none here! They out so much effort into their cocktails:D

My favorite speakeasy in Oahu! Make a resy & check them out! My hubs & I came here for my birthday & had an amazing time! Service was superb- professional, friendly, great recommendations & wonderful photographers (thank you!) We each got a complimentary glass of champagne & enjoyed several cocktails. They were made perfectly, delicious & strong.

Amazing staff just as friendly and cool as can be. Great setup, lots of beautiful bottles to chose from and admire. You're getting smoked drinks and cocktails too. The prices were very good. Comparatively to other markups on the island, bourbon seemed to be very well priced compared to mainland prices. A++

This is another (deliberately) hidden gem. Disguised as a pawn shop, you ask to see the "special collection" and you are ushered into an intimate space that accommodates about 18 people. The special part is that they have quite a few of the Aoki whiskey selections, as well as a fully stocked cocktail bar.

I never knew Room 38 existed until my buddy showed me to it. I've been to, and stayed at, the Imperial Hotel on Lewers St in Waikiki many times, but simply walked past the entrance by the elevators without realizing what it was. The lighted sign by the entrance says "Pawn Shop - Rm 38", so I must say that the hidden speakeasy concept works really well. My buddy said he didn't know about it until the bartender at Ruth's, across the street, told him about it. It's a hidden gem, run by the Aoki Group (think Benihana, Doraku, etc.), and is a really neat, secluded spot where customers can enjoy craft cocktails, specialty whiskeys, wine, liquors, unique dining dishes, and even a cigar or two, if you're into that. The menu is pretty extensive and the service is excellent. The servers and manager can guide you thru the night, and their menu, to ensure that you have the best experience possible. It's certainly a spot that is worth the trip, and I know we'll be back soon.

Cool atmosphere inside. Make sure to book reservations as it does fill up. Nice cocktails and seevice. Mocktails was good too per the non drinker in our party. Big selection of single barrel bourbon choices as well.

Located in the Imperial Hotel, across the street from Yard House in Waikiki. Look for the ABC store, walk into the lobby of the Imperial Hotel. Stick to the left, go towards the elevators, you'll see a sign that says Pawn Shop and some steps. That's it! It's a speakeasy disguised as a pawn shop. There's 2 seating rooms, a bar, and an outside area. Dim lighting. Not crowded if you go early. Heard it gets crowded later in the night. Food is good. The taro chips is a must try. The Karaage chicken is good, but it's more like teriyaki chicken. Didn't care much for the crispy ahi bites. It's cooked ahi, which is why I didn't like it. No mock-tails on the menu. But they can make them. Staff is nice and friendly.

My husband found this spot while looking for something fun to do that wouldn't be too touristy. This hidden bar is located inside the Imperial Hawaii Resort and when you first walk in you'll be greeted with what looks like a little pawn shop. Inside is a moody bar where you can grab a seat at the bar, a booth or a table. It's not huge, but will be able to accomodate a good amount of people once it becomes more popular. We stopped in earlier in the night and had the bar to ourselves for a while, which added to our experience. In Waikiki it's so busy and touristy that it was nice to feel like we had the place mostly to ourselves. The bartenders were very friendly and we were able to explore a few of the specialty drinks during our visit. We tried the Wabisabi ($17), Dragon Lady ($17), Localvore Mai Thai ($18), Limelight ($20), and 38 Old Fashioned ($22). The cocktails were on the more expensive side, but given the speakeasy experience and the drink quality it was a nice treat. Aside from the specialty cocktails they had a wide selection of options including hard to find options. This is definitely a spot to treat yourself or impress a date, client, or to celebrate. I would definitely stop in again for a drink or two.

A very cool speakeasy den with maximalist vintage decor and excellent cocktails. The complementary truffle popcorn overdoes it on the truffles, though - you have been warned. The only drag was the music. We were seated at the Frank Sinatra table, but were we treated to Rat Pack jazz? No we were not. We were subjected to Yacht Rock. And Hotel California. I hate the fucking Eagles, man! Still worth sticking around for a couple rounds.

Looking for a cool spot to check out while in Waikiki? THIS is THE spot. Welcome to a hidden gem in the Imperial: Pawn Shop Room 38! How amazing that our impromptu visit to Doraku for some Lychee martinis would lead us here!? Mahalo to Ryan & Kilo for recommending this spot. Tonight makes night #2 visiting Rm 38; we are having Smoky Old Fashions (yum) and enjoying a cigar (yes, coming from this anti-smoker...the Crazy Alice is delish!!!). Since we are staying across the street at Embassy Suites, this spot makes it perfect for us, as we can easily make our way back to our room without a fuss. Located next to the ABC Store on Lewers, this spot is easy to not see. One must enter the Imperial hotel and walk towards the neon Pawn shop sign to enter. Wait for Curtis to help you--or ring the doorbell before entering. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by a beautiful space dimly lit in red hues and carpet. The bar boasts of an Aoki whiskey collection, as well as other well-known brands, such as Makers. The playlist is spot on and goes with the vibe. Their list of Small Bites range from caviar to Beef Tataki to Cold Clams. Yum! We'd recommend ordering a smoky old fashion. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable with all things whiskey and cigar related. Customer service and on point and you will not be disappointed. If you're lucky to get Stuart or Curtis, you're in for a treat! Highly recommend this spot and we can't wait to come back!

What a hidden gem! From the outside you wouldn't know it was here. Looks like a closed pawn shop but inside is really nice. Everyone that works there is amazing! It's our new local spot. If you like old fashioned you gotta try their rm 38 old fashioned. It's one of the best I've had. They also have a large selection of whiskeys and scotches. Aside from the drinks the service is why I keep coming back! Braddah Curt, Ruby, Lady, Ellie they're all awesome! Definitely try it out. Just walk in and ring the bell! I forgot to mention they also have a good selection of cigars and they set you up nicely outside.!

Plan for reservations well in advance because you're going to want to sit at the bar. That's where the storytelling is center stage. From the outside, you'd easily miss it. Months before my trip to Oahu, I tried to book a reservation to Bar Leather Apron but was unable to…read moredo so because the reservations were immediately scooped up right as they were released. To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! In fact, around 7:30 p.m. when we stopped by, there was actually a ton of seating available in the bar. Who would've guessed. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

It is why you've searched for EP bar, looked over various reviews, and randomly found yourself reading thru the first few lines of this review. Well, welcome Dear Reader, and I hope what I'm about to share peaks your interest to visit EP Bar. I had my 2nd visit to EP Bar earlier this month with friends for some after dinner drinks. We did make a res, but there were some walk-ins while we there, so it's probably recommended but not necessary. We perused the menu, and our 1st round consisted of: Ringo Star Strawberry Fields Forever Pho Us By Us Hail Mary Any guesses on the drink I chose? It's related to the Beatles. If you guessed Ringo Star.....take another guess. The Strawberry Fields Forever was very refreshing. Recommended. My partner ordered the Hail Mary, which (sadly) wasn't to his liking, and he happily "helped" me finish my drink before ordering his own in the next round. I chose the Ringo Star as my next drink, and I'd say if you're a fan of Mr. Star and/or apples, this drink is right up your orchard. Recommended. SERVICE The service is friendly, mixed with a splash of polite, and served with patience and knowledge. BOTTOM LINE A great place for drinks. Casual ambiance/vibe and relaxed atmosphere. Recommended.

The neighborhood is vibrant, gritty, and alive--a mix of Chinese, Southeast Asian, and Native Hawaiian influences layered over historic buildings, glowing neon signs, art galleries, and hidden cocktail dens. It reminded me a bit of New Orleans: worn facades with stories to tell, creative energy around every corner, and the sense that the best experiences are often tucked behind an unassuming door. Which makes it the perfect home for EP Bar. "EP" stands for Extend Play, a fitting name for a place built around music. Long before listening bars became fashionable in Los Angeles, New York, and London, there were the jazz kissa of Japan--small cafés where people gathered not to drink or dance, but to listen. Records spun through carefully tuned sound systems while patrons sat immersed in the music. The music wasn't background noise. It was the main event. Walking into EP Bar, you can feel traces of that tradition. The room is intimate and inviting. Reservations are highly recommended because the place fills up quickly on weekend nights. Once inside, the atmosphere hits a sweet spot. The music is loud enough to create a mood and provide privacy for conversation, yet never so overpowering that it dominates the room. Loud enough to muffle the secrets being shared between old friends. Loud enough to drown out the office gossip that somehow followed everyone from the coffee machine into happy hour. The soundtrack isn't just playing--it's setting the tone. As an Old Fashioned guy, my choice was easy. I ordered a Oaxaca OF, which swaps traditional whiskey for mezcal. Smoky, balanced, and memorable, it felt like the kind of drink that rewards slow sipping between tracks. Another member of our group went with the Pho Us By Us. To nobody's surprise except perhaps her own, it tasted a little salty. Considering the ingredients--Green Chile Vodka, Sake, Pho Spice, Lemon, and Soda--it was probably the most honest cocktail description I've ever seen. The drink tasted exactly like its name suggested. That's part of the fun here. The menu doesn't hide behind clever marketing. Drinks like Thai Me Down and Candy Rain practically dare you to order them. Not every note landed perfectly. Service was a little off-beat during our visit. But like any live performance, sometimes the rhythm isn't flawless. Thankfully, the vibes, decor, music, and overall experience more than carried the set. What I appreciated most was that EP Bar doesn't feel like a gimmick. It feels like a genuine continuation of a tradition that began decades ago in Japan's listening cafés, traveled across oceans, and found a home in Honolulu's Chinatown. It's a place where music matters, conversation flows, and the pace of the evening slows down just enough to appreciate both. The place slaps for what it is--and for what it isn't. In a world increasingly filled with distractions, EP Bar invites you to do something refreshingly simple: sit down, have a great drink, listen to great music, and be present. I'll definitely be back. After all, every good record deserves another spin, and I'm curious to see how the needle lands next time.
