My friends and I ate out at the butcher bar which was a spin off of one of our favorites restaurants Aloha steak house, located right next door. We were celebrating my birthday and I chose this place for their great menu. We were a party of 10 and this place was on the smaller side with about 10 tables and only one table could accommodate us. However it was the center of this open aired restaurant with great decor which made us feel special. The decor here was very edgy in a weird goth way with melted candles and random old photos but it was very fun and perfect for our formal casual dinner. We shared everything and ordered a bunch of food and drinks! Our table tried the hamachi crudo, the beef carpaccio, the bone marrow with sourdough, the fried burratta with sour dough, the house made beef jerky, the lamb skewers and the aged bone in ribeye. Our favorites were the bone marrow which honestly you can't go wrong with bone marrow!!! Just wish the bone wasn't so shallow and had more marrow. We also loved the fried burrata with cherry tomatoes and sourdough!!! This was AMAZING!! Our table also loved the lamb skewers which were perfectly cooked and just enough gaminess!! The sour cream and chimichurri were a perfect combo with this!!! And the ribeye was cooked perfectly and cut in thick slices and had a truffle butter on the side. Honestly everything was great lol We all tried different cocktails but my favorite was the truffle washed bourbon with lemon and honey... so freaking good!!! It was a sipper with hints of truffle. I also tried this blood money drink which was a milk punch with a cab red wine float and this was everything!!! I love a milk punch but with a red wine float was so innovative! The other drinks my friends got looked really good and they all enjoyed it as well. The service was really great! They took great care of us even if it were only one server and one bartender. The restaurant was full but they did their best to take care of our table. They didn't autograt us which was nice because my friends and I all worked in service and were going to take care of them regardless. We loved how helpful and patient they were with us even when we were pounding shots and cocktails like nothing! Overall, this place is seriously a hidden gem. I love the food the space and the service. Definitely would choose this place over aloha steak house any day. We also really want to try all the other dishes that we didn't get the chance to get. I also would wear cooler clothing as this is an open aired space and it was a little hotter than normal. I wish they did something for birthdays which would be the only downside for people wanting to come here to celebrate special occasions. Other than that, we will definitely be back.

I tried the happy hour wine and meatloaf. They were both pretty good, especially the meatloaf being $12! Can't beat this :) The staff were very nice and helpful. I didn't like the music though. And because it was an open air bar, it was humid. Overall, I liked this place and would like to try the steakhouse next door in the future.

Great little spot for a delicious dining experience! Of course the burger was a must order and lived up to all the other "best burger" reviews! The watermelon and feta salad was bright and refreshing and fried burrata thoughtfully prepared with tomatoes, balsamic and herbs. The waitstaff and bartender were welcoming, attentive, and kind! Outdoor seating is great for people watching, this is a definite place to visit when in the area!

Came here for their happy hour from 4p-6p. Food was pretty impressive and steak house quality. Their bone marrow burger, holy moly. Butcher Bar meatloaf was quite tasty and loved the mash it came with. Spicy Ahi Nachos and Lobster Mac and Cheese bites were a treat. $5 draft beers and $10 house wines, sign me up! Great service and ambiance. Me love a good happy hour.

The bone marrow burger and the lobster mac bites were super ono! It's a small and quaint spot, perfect for a date night with someone. Service was fast and the burger was definitely worth wanting to come back for. - Miguel Morales Photography

This place is absolutely amazing, and I highly recommend stopping by and visiting Thierry--the talent behind the exceptional cocktails. The drinks here were some of the best I've ever had, so much so that we came back again the very next night. You must try the Diazepam; the truffle wash is incredible and creates a truly unique cocktail that leaves you wanting more. While every cocktail on the menu is outstanding, that one was my favorite and the reason we returned.

Small place that wasn't busy. Not sure what to call the style but the food sounded and looked good. Service was super kind and informative. Made sure we were receiving the best service and everything was to our liking. The infused water was so refreshing, I couldn't stop drinking it. Started off with the wedge salad that had pork belly. Let me just say I LOVE it! It was so good. I am going to come back to this place for that and to try the bone marrow burger. Wine was great, and it was a good pour. The lobster Mac and cheese balls weren't great after tasting the flavor of the salad. We only each tried one and sent the rest back. The porter house was a good size. It was a little over cooked but because they wanted everything to our liking they did give a discount on the meal. But I have to say even being over cooked we loved it. The sear, seasoning were so good, and the garlic butter was a perfect little accent flavor. We didn't ask for the discount because it was that good. So try this place out!!

Came across this bar while strolling around Waikiki. Situated right next to Aloha Steakhouse- actually a sister bar/restaurant. Cool ambiance. Reminds me of a masculine ish steakhouse feel. They display the dry aged steaks for everyone to admire. We went during happy hour and had their bone marrow burger and filet sliders. 4/5 for both. They were pretty good the happy hour deal is a plus. Portions of the slider were appropriate for an adult. We had draft beers. So can't comment on the cocktails. But will try it next time. Service was great. It was busy but the server was attentive. For those of you visiting Waikiki, this is worth a try.

Don't get it mixed up with The Butcher and Bird, which is a completely separate establishment, no affiliation to each other. Though the Butcher Bar is associated with the restaurant group who also runs Zigu, Goofy Cafe, Heavenly, etc. Shares a kitchen with their sister restaurant, Aloha Steak House, thus, some items are similar, but the vibe of this place is totally different. I really love the melted candle and library look to it. I personally wished it was enclosed and not open air, so that you could really get a dark library speakeasy type of feel to it. Big shout out to Peyton (sp?) for being the quirky self that he is, keeping up with our witty banter and being the most hospitable that evening. Another younger server came to assist us that evening, but definitely didn't vibe as well as Peyton did. Peyton eventually became our main server for that evening and gave us suggestions on what to order, checked up to see how his suggestions panned out and brought us a glass of champagne to celebrate a birthday with. He picked up on the comment I made earlier that I didn't drink alcohol. He assertively brought me a glass of sparkling soda with grenadine to make me feel included as well, nice touch. As for the food, we came here for the restaurant week menu (which come to find out was a modified version of their dusk menu). Started with a watermelon salad that was topped with feta and a balsamic vinaigrette which was refreshing. Had a choice of a NY (10oz) or Ribeye (12oz) to which we got one of each to share. The plating and presentation of the main dishes could use a little work, but the flavors were there. The steak was nice and buttery, not overly seasoned. I just wish they did a little something to the sides and veggies to give it an elevated flair. We ended with Lappert's Ice Cream which gave us a choice of vanilla, Kona Coffee or matcha green tea. Aside from all of that, we ordered the lobster mac and cheese bites (couldn't quite taste nor pinpoint the lobster in there). I feel like the noodles or mixture inside of the bites could've been a little more gooey-cheesy-melty. We also ordered the fried burrata and sourdough which had a nice chimichurri on it. Slap the components altogether and it's like a sandwich/meal in itself. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and Peyton's company that evening!

    Ahi tacos.....SO ono!!

#36 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) We were enjoying a staycation in Waikiki and I chose this place for my honeys birthday dinner. We made reservations towards the end of happy hour so we could take advantage of the happy hour specials. It's cute inside but it was quite warm. We sat at a table inside and eventually moved outside when one became free to get more air. We ordered almost the whole happy hour menu. We started with ahi tacos which was easily our favorite pupu. We ordered both types of fried macaroni balls. The lobster ones had a good amount of lobster in them but they were pretty dry. The bacon ones were better, moist and nice and cheesy. For our main dishes my honey got the burger made with 3 kinds of meat and bone marrow. The burger was the best part of the meal. So juicy and delicious. I got the sliders and while good I wished I'd gotten the burger. It was a nice place and the meal was really good.

A choice place in Waikiki... The Butcher Bar is a cozy new spot in Waikiki...Marine Surf Waikiki to be honest and you wouldn't really have known that as there's zero signage and the only what we figured it out is the address on the hotel sign was the same with the restaurant which then i noticed a menu that had the name on it. Cozy doesn't begin to describe the seating here as there's a small bar counter seating, a huge community table in the middle along with a few two seater tables besides the outdoor patio area along with a very minimalistic decor the vibe doesn't quite scream butcher bar though the massive Dry Aging Chamber would otherwise say differently. Menu offerings are quite simple with some small dishes, burger and a couple of sandwiches you can experience the "Dusk Dinner" course or just Ala carte it with some of their yummy entrees. We decided on the Tenderloin Sliders which was much more meatier than I thought with two thick slices of Filet Mignon and carmelized onions served with fries it certainly was a bougie bite. To balance things out i wanted the Petite Wedge which was just that as a wedge of iceberg lettuce is drenched in dressing topped with bleu cheese crumble and walnuts and a few chunks of pork belly was a fun and interesting twist on a yummy salad. We also got the Stuffed Portobello or i think is what you called it as it wasn't on the menu but stuffed with three types of cheese was too hard to resist and it was a nice and delicate bite that i enjoyed. The service here is nice and friendly having a cozy spot for a bit of flair is nice and really enjoyed it all. Thank you!

Dinner in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii... Searching our Yelp apps, Irene and I found this Hot New Business called: The Butcher Bar by Aloha Steakhouse Located at the Marine Surf Waikiki Hotel, The Butcher Bar utilizes the meats and marrow that its sister restaurant, Aloha Steakhouse, would normally throw away. We did see Aloha Steakhouse across the way from The Butcher Bar. The Butcher Bar is a casual, open-air venue. We sat at the bar, near the air conditioning vent (above). We appreciate the purse hooks along the bar! We decided to share the Stuffed Portobello mushroom (not on the menu), the Petite Wedge Salad, and the Tenderloin Sliders - two thinly sliced filet mignon with caramelized onions and garlic mayo. They were served with House cut fries - yum! Everything was delicious and had beautiful presentation! We didn't have a reservation, but we waited at the door (before opening time), so we were the first customers of the day! Thank you to our server! She was a young, efficient, competent gal who really knew the menu and which items were Happy Hour specials! Thanks for the Kama'aina discount and for refilling our water glasses with orange and mint infused water!

The Butcher Bar in Waikiki offers a laid-back vibe and delicious food, making it a great spot for a casual night out. Located on Seaside Avenue, the open-air restaurant offers w4-hour validated parking at the Hyatt Centric Hotel just across the street. We decided to share a variety of dishes to get a taste of what The Butcher Bar has to offer. The spicy ahi tacos, served in a crisp wonton shell, were a fantastic start. Topped with a zesty slaw and a hint of creamy avocado, these tacos offered a perfect balance of heat, freshness, and texture. We followed the tacos with the bacon mac & cheese bites, fried burrata & sourdough, and bone marrow & toast from the small dishes section of the menu. The bacon mac & cheese bites were pure comfort food, elevated. Imagine creamy mac and cheese, with just the right amount of gooey, cheesy goodness, rolled into bite-sized balls and coated in a crispy, golden breadcrumb crust. The addition of smoky bacon added a delicious savory depth. Burrata lovers will like the fried burrata & sourdough. The burrata was lightly fried to create a delicate, crispy exterior that contrasts with the creamy, rich interior. Paired with toasted sourdough bread, this dish offers a delightful combination crispy, creamy, and chewy textures. For those seeking something indulgent and flavorful, the bone marrow & toast is the perfect choice. The roasted bone marrow is rich, buttery, and deeply savory, served with perfectly toasted bread slices that are ideal for spreading the marrow. Topped with a sprinkle of herbs and a touch of acidity, this dish is a decadent treat. For the main course, we couldn't resist trying the 30-day dry-aged NY striploin, which was as tender and flavorful as we had hoped. Paired with creamy mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley, the steak was cooked to perfection. As we weren't provided a cocktail menu, we looked up the drink menu on their website only to be told by the bartender that we could either order from the drink specials listed on the wall or that he could make any standard cocktail we desired. My Old Fashioned was served with a smoky twist, while my friend enjoyed the creative and refreshing Seven-Foot Sicilians Dealing Ecstasy and Dos Novias craft cocktails. The Butcher Bar impressed us with its great food, friendly service, and cozy atmosphere. I'm looking forward to returning, especially during happy hour, to explore more of the menu. And next time, I definitely want to try the bone marrow burger!

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! In fact, around 7:30 p.m. when we stopped by, there was actually a ton of seating available in the bar. Who would've guessed. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

I went here for my birthday and didn't realize I should've made a reservation for a larger group,…read moreespecially since it was my first time. Thankfully, Michael and his team were able to accommodate us, which I really appreciated. From the moment we walked in, the place had a great vibe, the interior is beautiful. Throughout the night, the staff and Michael (the owner) were incredibly welcoming, funny and attentive. The cocktails were amazing. I had the expressing my love all night and even though the place was busy and there was a bit of a wait for food, it was honestly worth it. We had the crab dynamite, the ahi brioche, and the prosciutto and burrata. SO GOOD! My friends and I had such a great time and will definitely be back.

I've been waiting for this cocktail spot to iron out its flaws and become as good as it should be…read more Sadly, I don't think it will happen. That's a shame because it has the potential to be very good. When you start with a cocktail concept that is deliberately kept low key with no signage, and a drink menu that rotates and evolves, you have a pretty good floor to start. Having a cozy place to settle in and being able to enjoy food from Chris Kajioka should give 430 Pkwy a high ceiling. If you like an espresso martini try something a little different. Their Espressing My Love batches espresso with Averna, black walnut bitters, and a unique monkeypod syrup. Unfortunately, there is no espresso machine so you cannot get fresh drawn espresso to make a Carajillo the way Cafe Miro use to. The ahi brioche is a carry over from all Chris Kajioka places. The grilled cheese is excellent. Hotdogs are kicked up - it used to be a black truffled miso chicken sausage but the current one is a little different. The problem is the food preparation totally undermines the whole place. Without a separate kitchen you have frying being done just a few feet away from where cocktails are made. If you sit on the right side of the bar you will quickly understand why this doesn't work. I would come here more frequently if i didn't have to smell like cooking oil afterwards. Fix that problem and this place would rock.

I forgot to take a photo here but this place is pretty legendary and one of the cooler speakeasies…read moreI've been to. Super dope vending machine entrance and very interactive with the coin. The interior was also well designed but I wish our group was sat in a different area of the bar. We got sat in this one corner and it was dark with like translucent lights, kinda like Jinx's lair from Arcane. Idk just wished we sat somewhere else with more light and visibility of the bar. The drinks were pretty good. It's a large menu and honestly I wanted to try multiple drinks but can't be getting all drunk and stuff you know the vibes. Also I know it's unrelated to this establishment but it's next to a billiards hall and that was legendary. Great vibe, great place, highly recommend.

Firstly, the vibes are IMMACULATE. 20/10…read more Wild Orange is a speakeasy hidden behind an old-school Aloha Maid vending machine. Apparently you're normally supposed to put a coin in to open the secret door, but it's broken right now, so the whole vending machine just swings right open. Slightly less secret, but still very cool. Inside is where this place really shines. Moody lighting, a giant orange tree in the middle of the room, Japanese hip hop playing in the background (I want to steal this entire playlist), and extremely cool and friendly servers and bartenders. I've been to a few other attempted "speakeasies" in Honolulu, but most are basically just dark bars with a fun door or code word. Wild Orange actually has the VIBES to make the whole concept work. Definitely worth coming just to hang out and chill. They have a full bar and an extensive specialty cocktail menu. Tried the Purple Dragon, made with ube liqueur and coconut cream. Very sweet--a little TOO sweet for my taste--but tasty and pretty. Probably should have listened to the menu and kept it as a shot, but I wanted something I could sip on for a while and chill. The Umeshu Highball was also very pretty and tasty. My friend who works as a sake distributor was impressed with their selection of good sake, so of course we had to order a bottle. Our server brought it out in an ice bucket, kept it off to the side, and completely served it for us throughout. Very classy. The food menu is fun and creative, but unfortunately not really for me because it's entirely vegan. Most times, but ESPECIALLY when I'm drinking, I want MEAT. Tried the Wild Musubi, a vegan Spam musubi. I'm not actually sure what the "meat" was. Possibly fried tofu? Whatever it was, it was definitely a passable alternative, but would have been 100x better if it were just plain old Spam. It also falls victim to what I find is a common problem with vegan attempts at Japanese food: anything teriyaki ends up being way too treacly sweet without actual meat or seafood to ground it in reality. Also tried the Char Siu Tofu Bao, fried tofu in a red Chinese-style char siu sauce on fluffy white buns. Again, fun and certainly not bad, but these would be 1000x better with actual pork. If Wild Orange had this exact same creative food menu but carnivore edition, this place would probably be 7/5 stars for me. That being said, I know being vegan will actually be a huge draw for some people, and I appreciate that the food is creative rather than just the usual sad vegan afterthoughts. Parking is pretty easy by Honolulu standards. It's inside Hawaiian Brian's, so there's a large shared parking lot. That being said, you might still have trouble finding a spot during peak gym hours since you're competing with all the 24 Hour Fitness customers. All in all, I LOVE this place. Definitely a fun stop--first, middle, only, or nightcap--on a chill night out. Will absolutely be adding Wild Orange into the rotation of places to bring out-of-town guests when I want to impress them with something cool and different. The vegan menu probably means it'll be a couple-times-a-year place for me rather than a regular haunt. But for drinks, service, atmosphere, and pure VIBES? 20/10.

What we thought was a pawn shop turned out to be... a speakeasy?!…read more What a lovely surprise. A gem of a find! I will never forget this experience. I was just skipping around town exploring wanting to check-in to as many places as I could like the responsible Yelp elite that I am and then I find this amazing hole on the wall speakeasy. The lovely gentleman in the front welcomed us in to take a look around and I asked him if I could take photos for yelp and he told me that if I was going to write a review, I had to join them. So of course, I took the invite and decided to stay for a little while. We sat at a nice area. A perfect little place. I just want to take a snapshot and keep it in my memory so I can emulate it and turn it into my home study. I could stay here forever. The vibes were on point. The server recommended drinks that he thought we would like, and we loved both of them. I don't remember what the drinks were called, but mine had a blueberry taste to it, and my friend had a mock tail, but some sort of Yuzu to it. We also shared a $15 charcuterie graze. 10 out of 10 would recommend being curious and opening doors to finding out that there's a speakeasy randomly in an area you never thought would be there. What an amazing experience.

What surprised me most was how good the food was for the price. Usually spots with this kind of atmosphere rely on the drinks to carry the experience, but every dish actually delivered. The chicken karaage was crispy and packed with flavor, the beef takoyaki disappeared almost instantly, and the taro chips with mascarpone were such a unique combination. Between the cocktails, food, service, and atmosphere, everything just worked.
