This is a very new speakeasy (open just a few months). Make a reservation to be sure you get in. Hidden in a good way within the Imperial. Looks like a pawn shop but is far from it! Loved this hidden gem. Tucked in the back of the Imperial Hawaii Resort you will be pleasantly surprised by this speakeasy lounge/bar. The inside is beautiful and the bar has an impressive selection of whiskey and other spirits. We enjoyed quite fair priced premium cigars, cocktails and small bites out in the back outside lounge. Whiskey was good staff was nice The ambiance is a socialist/communist themed. Carl Marxis mirrors and and N Vietnamese mirror in the men's room ....basically saying keep the Americans away. I dont think the staff knows but we are Vietnamese and saw it for what it was. Loved our experience here! We came in on a Friday night and I loved the speakeasy entrance and the vibe of the place transports you to another place and time. Stewart was so charming and sweet and took the time to take care of each of us and make thoughtful recommendations to make our evening and experience memorable and wonderful. Will definitely be back and can't wait to try more of their menu. This hot spot was definitely the move for me and my girl on date night. The vast bourbon selection is a little daunting, but that's a good thing because their selections are truly one of a kind in Hawaii. I can't say enough about this place, it had so much charm and character. From the original cocktails to the swanky ambiance, to the delicious pupus. So much attention to detail in everything. Fun little speakeasy in Waikiki. I had the 38 Old Fashioned, smoky and delicious, and my wife had Veuve Clicquot (always know what you're getting there, goodness.) We also enjoyed the pork sausage and charcuterie. Thought everything was reasonably priced especially for the area. The service was fast and friendly. Grateful to have gotten to experience this speakeasy two days before leaving the island. We were attended by Ms Lady and I believe the manager. It's now my favorite "old fashioned" spot. Everyone here is so kind and friendly and the atmosphere is awesome and elegant. The collection of bourbon/whiskey here is incredible. On my first visit I met an awesome group of people and much to my surprise one of them was the owner (Kevin) of Rm 38. Regardless of whether you're a speakeasy fan, this one is a must-visit. Excellent small bites, excellent cocktails, excellent music, and beyond-excellent service. Since it's a 10-min walk for me, I decided to treat myself to a pretty reasonable selection of what was on offer, and not a single item disappointed. Among the cocktails I tried, the 38 Old Fashioned was my favorite, given my bias for them, but the rest were great too. Out of the small bites I tried, the spicy crispy ahi was my favorite, with the taro chips and mascarpone being a close second. The amazing oldies music added to the vibe and made the experience that much more enjoyable. And last, but definitely not least, the service was fantastic. Curtis, Stewart and Ely were very friendly and made me feel welcome. Curtis was very welcoming and attentive. Stewart was happy to share recommendations. And upon sharing my love for anything by Frank Sinatra, Ely was able to set the music accordingly, and that made my evening. Thank you! I look forward to my next visit. read more

Apparently you're normally supposed to put a coin in to open the secret door, but it's broken right now, so the whole vending machine just swings right open. Slightly less secret, but still very cool. Inside is where this place really shines. Moody lighting, a giant orange tree in the middle of the room, Japanese hip hop playing in the background (I want to steal this entire playlist), and extremely cool and friendly servers and bartenders. I've been to a few other attempted "speakeasies" in Honolulu, but most are basically just dark bars with a fun door or code word. Wild Orange actually has the VIBES to make the whole concept work. Definitely worth coming just to hang out and chill. They have a full bar and an extensive specialty cocktail menu. Tried the Purple Dragon, made with ube liqueur and coconut cream. Very sweet--a little TOO sweet for my taste--but tasty and pretty. Probably should have listened to the menu and kept it as a shot, but I wanted something I could sip on for a while and chill. The Umeshu Highball was also very pretty and tasty. My friend who works as a sake distributor was impressed with their selection of good sake, so of course we had to order a bottle. Our server brought it out in an ice bucket, kept it off to the side, and completely served it for us throughout. Very classy. The food menu is fun and creative, but unfortunately not really for me because it's entirely vegan. Most times, but ESPECIALLY when I'm drinking, I want MEAT. Tried the Wild Musubi, a vegan Spam musubi. I'm not actually sure what the "meat" was. Possibly fried tofu? Whatever it was, it was definitely a passable alternative, but would have been 100x better if it were just plain old Spam. It also falls victim to what I find is a common problem with vegan attempts at Japanese food: anything teriyaki ends up being way too treacly sweet without actual meat or seafood to ground it in reality. Also tried the Char Siu Tofu Bao, fried tofu in a red Chinese-style char siu sauce on fluffy white buns. Again, fun and certainly not bad, but these would be 1000x better with actual pork. If Wild Orange had this exact same creative food menu but carnivore edition, this place would probably be 7/5 stars for me. That being said, I know being vegan will actually be a huge draw for some people, and I appreciate that the food is creative rather than just the usual sad vegan afterthoughts. Parking is pretty easy by Honolulu standards. It's inside Hawaiian Brian's, so there's a large shared parking lot. That being said, you might still have trouble finding a spot during peak gym hours since you're competing with all the 24 Hour Fitness customers. All in all, I LOVE this place. Definitely a fun stop--first, middle, only, or nightcap--on a chill night out. Will absolutely be adding Wild Orange into the rotation of places to bring out-of-town guests when I want to impress them with something cool and different. If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.

Located in a hotel called The Romer on Nāhua Street in Waikiki off of Kuhio (closer to Ala Wai Canal) it is a smallish unpretentious looking building on Diamond Head side of Nahua. They have valet stand in front and validate parking for up to 3 hours. The valet wasn't very friendly when we walked towards him and usually they hold the door open but this one did not. We realize he's probably not part of Lei Stand staff but it doesn't make a good first impression. Walk into the lobby and directly to your left is the Lei Stand. It is brightly neon but dark if that makes sense, and very small. If you're a fan of when it used to be on Bethel St downtown then you'll be disappointed with this venue. No view to be had, dark drapes cover the windows (we were there at 6:00 pm) and no cute little lanai or garden. Tiny tables either high tops or rounds - maybe 10 total and a small bar. There was one tiny corner booth. The lost star was for this set up but also another lost star for NO MUSIC. Music is such an important part of a place especially a bar so we were disappointed and appalled there was only silence. Bartender said the music was "broken" so we turned on our phones to get something on our table. Then two girls brought in something to light the place up with some tunes so that helped. The final lost star was it is called The Lei Stand yet there wasn't a lei stand inside the place. When we asked the bartender where it was he didn't even know what a lei was. Then we explained to him and he said it is in the hotel lobby but you have to go to front desk to let them know you wish to purchase one. Another disappointment. Thank goodness I bought her a lei from downtown in case they didn't have any. The good stars ... Star 1 goes to the drink menu and how delicious they tasted. "Rub up on my belly" was beautifully prepared and so delicious I had to have another one lol I mean how could I refuse a second guava jam infused Tito's vodka??? Bartender prepared with cute little garnish and an ice stick to keep it cold! He was very nice and took good care of us. My friend opted for the "Clifton's Curse" - yes there's a back story to this drink- and enjoyed the cognac, absinthe, bitters and sherry concoction! Ono! Star 2 goes to the food or "nibbles" as they call it. Taro chips and crack dip were yum and a nice handful of chips not too much and not too little. Hurricane fries - to die for! Plenty of furikake, parmigiano reggiano and spicy aioli. The girls who brought our food were very nice and made sure we had what we needed to enjoy, bringing us waters too. They also had a smash burger for $25 but we had dinner rez later so didn't want to indulge but it looked good. It might be cute if you wanted to do a private party here and I noticed a room across with a beautiful large table set up for a private dinner - not sure if part of hotel or bar.

Better, but not "perfect" as being open air, the air conditioning was insufficient to keep the room cooled properly (for us). I ordered a 2021 Penfolds Bin 704 Cab from Napa ($142). This bottle is around $50 in the stores. It was full of dark fruit, some spice and nuttiness. It proved to be a good match for our food. We started with a Watermelon Salad ($14), a tower of cubed watermelons atop greens and mint, with a sprinkling of walnuts and (what I think was) Feta Cheese. Balsamic was drizzled atop the tower. This was a refreshing salad, simple but delicious. Next came Bone Marrow with toast ($20). This was simply prepared, just a roasted bone marrow atop mashed potatoes and pickled vegetables, four pieces of sliced sourdough toast and a slash of green (pesto?). The marrow was very good, but we usually get two pieces at other restaurants. The menu lacks any description of the dishes ... This is something I hope they improve upon. When at a steak house, one should eat steak, so we ordered the 12oz Dry Aged NY striploin ($85) and the 16oz Dry Aged Ribeye ($97). We asked for a side of grilled asparagus for each plate (price not recorded). Each steak came with four spears of asparagus, some greens, and a ramekin containing seasoned butter. The steaks were good but reconfirmed my opinion that steaks need at least 45 days of aging before the desired nuttiness appears. These steaks were aged for 30 days. I'd be willing to pay more for an additional 15 days of aging. We capped our meal with a coffee flavored crème brulée (price unrecorded) and a cup of coffee. We enjoyed our time at The Butcher Bar ... the food is excellent and the service by Chris was great. The prices are in line with other restaurants in Waikiki. The room needs some work. The fish was SO juicy and tender. TBH it was kinda flavorless, but I actually loved it that way. It tasted super fresh and honestly felt pretty healthy. We also got the pizza and that was great too. Service was really fast, but there were also probably like 3 other people there at the time haha. Overall, great restaurant by the water with a nice view, good food, and a relaxing atmosphere.

Definitely a fun little Side Quest…read more Such a fun little spot in Waikiki! They have darts, drinks, a claw machine, and great food. There's a little bit of everything to keep you entertained. The prices are also really good for Waikiki, and the staff was super friendly. Definitely a fun place to stop by, hang out, eat, and have a few drinks. 100% love and recommend!
