My honest review would be 1 star for service, 4 for the taste of food. Food was delicious, but just know that it's super expensive for a pool side restaurant. For the price, I definitely expected better service. We had to wait over 30 minutes to order and 30 minutes to get our check. We were hardly checked in on the entire 3 hrs we were there, and waters were only refilled once. We wanted to order more but service was so lacking that we didn't. Food: honestly pretty tasty with unique flavors. The crispy shrimp appetizer was super yummy. The Maui onion soup was so so... not good for the price. There wasn't enough cheese. My macadamia nut crusted fish was delicious though and super filling Ambiance: its pool side, nothing fancy, but they do have nice live Hawaiian music which was enjoyable. Overall I think 3 stars is fair.

Service 0, food 0 if I could give 0 I would ! Utensils came after food! Pickle came old , asked to change , asked for paper napkins , they forgot! , meat in the burger not cooked ! Photo uploaded!

Our first meal in Hawaii!! We stopped at Kano Ka Pila which is right in our hotel, the Outrigger Reef beach resort. Our hostess was so sweet and welcomed us to Honolulu. We all got alcoholic drinks, and while everyone else in my group got liquor, I stayed with a local beer brewed in Maui! Our food was amazing, I got the poke nachos as my meal (it's an appetizer) and highly recommend! Right by the pool, the vibes are great!

A hidden gem for great Hawaiian music 7 days a week! Make a reservation. The portion sizes are huge - one sourdough garlic cheese bread appetizer is enough for 2-3, ditto for the entrees and desserts. Music is great, and the dudes who play on most Wednesdays bring along a hula dancer or two!

Great food, ambiance, drinks, and live music was beautiful. Perfect casual spot to enjoy HI!

One of the best meals I had while in Oahu. We walked there from our hotel so not quite sure about the parking situation. Dining is outdoors with very relaxed vibes. They had a band playing on stage during dinnertime - really nice hawaiian music. We tried the garlic shrimp, huli Huli chicken and furikake seared ahi. All the dishes were delicious. Don't regret trying this place at all. Staff was very nice.

Review for drinks only, didn't order food: Our bartenders provided great friendly service. The drinks were unique and flavourful. The traditional Hawaiian live music was perfect for the resort ambiance!

We came here for drinks and app. They had live music which is why we stopped. We ordered the ahi tuna nachos, which were good but could use more of the toppings. The ratio to wonton chips was not ideal. My mule drink was good. Overall decent but nothing to rave about. Our waiter Jordan was really good tho, very attentive.

Kani Ka Pila Grille surprised me--in a good way! It's not a traditional restaurant setting, more of a poolside spot with casual daytime vibes and families around, so if you're hoping for something romantic or quiet, plan accordingly. I was a little unsure how to order at first, but the bartender was super helpful and quickly connected us with a server. Service overall was friendly and smooth. Now for the star: the food! The Maui Fish Sandwich was beautifully seasoned, flaky, and fresh. The Soft Shell Crab Sandwich gave major po' boy energy--crispy and loaded with flavor. And I had to come back for the Pineapple Crème Brûlée. 10/10 recommend. It's served in a carved-out pineapple with brûlée on top, and underneath you can scoop out the pineapple. Add strawberries and whipped cream, and it's basically dessert in paradise. Would absolutely return!

Great music and very tasty food selections. It is an open, hotel restaurant so atmosphere is very casual, but could be long wait especially for the evening when there is a live music. Do make a reservation ahead of time if you want to a good seat and don't want to wait for over 1 hour which we did! Grilled shrimp was delicious! Pool of yummy garlic butter at the bottom of the plate which is peaked up with garlic mashed potatoes. But I thought the double chocolate brownie was the winner. Very chocolaty and decadent.

Food was mediocre. Service was super slow. We got seated relatively quickly with a reservation. For the price we paid for the meal. I feel like there's way better restaurants to check out in Waikiki. The only plus was the live music. It was a bit loud for dinner, it was hard to converse while the music was playing.

Delicious food. Jun was our server and he's greatly attentive. It's outside dining next to the pool. Great music to listen to while we eat.

Darren Y.

Da best place for a meal and Hawaiian music. Valet parking for 12 bucks and 4 hours which is a sweet deal for Waikiki. Come at 6 for the live music. If you're lucky you'll get an impromptu hula show

Do they still have the BBQ-your-own streak/seafood grilling area ? And their salad bar too ? Thanks!

I went there three times over a week and never saw that while at the restaurant or on the menu.

Do they take reservations?

They do, but the place is big enough that they aren't necessary

Where do you park?

Valet is free with validation. I just tip 5 bucks.

They are extremely consistent, since ever, and every dish tastes authentic. Pipikaula, which is the pulehu short rib, is my favorite. Lots of meat on the bone, and the fat in the meat you can taste with every bite. We got chicken long rice, beef stew, side rice, lau lau, haupia, and kalua pig with cabbage, lomi salmon, chili water, poi! Lau lau is Ono, definitely home made, and lots of meat inside. Almost forgot, we got watercress soup too. That's my favorite veggie! And the beef in the soup was cooked down so it was very moist. A little pricey overall but very worth it. Ambiance is nice and comfy inside. We went for takeout. Service was prompt and friendly even though they're so busy. Stop by if you craving Hawaiian food in kalihi!

Every trip to Hawai'i I look forward to upsetting my doc back at the mainland by gorging on some ono local grinds. Boy is he going to be angry. Give me a Chee Hoo for some Fried Butterfish Collar! How they are able to fry this fish without drying it out, allowing juices to just ooze out after breaking through the crisp exterior is mind bending. They know it's good bc when I excitedly ordered a second serving the waitress gave me a knowing wink. This is my new "last bite." Kalbi. Juicy. Well seasoned. Some of the best I've had. You know it's a popular dish when bc when I looked inside the kitchen you just see rows upon rows of ribs hanging ready to be pulled down and thrown on the grill. Lau lau-pork and butterfish steamed in ti leaves, a Hawaiian comfort food. The main reason for this trip was to bring my Mom back to her hometown in Ewa. She commented that she has not found a lau lau to her liking in San Diego so when this was brought to her and she went completely silent and smiling eating it up you know it's good lol. I was very happy Helena's take brought her joy. Kalua pork and cabbage. I can't attest to it bc it was being hoarded on the other side of the table and I was just happy with the butterfish and kalbi as is lol. Poke-Bruh, it's Hawai'i. Haupia-oh goodness. This was the perfect way to finish off the meal. The traditional coconut pudding was refreshing without being overbearingly sweet. Looks like Jello blocks but firm enough to pick up by hand. Outstanding. Service was ridiculously friendly and epitomized the Aloha spirit. This place is a foodies dream stop, serving locals and tourists alike since 1946. This place is a freaking institution!

Our server, Jason, greeted us with a warm smile and took our drink and food orders. We got a few items that we don't usually see at Hawaiian restaurants back home. Hawaiian Moco: opted for the lau lau as suggested with lomi salmon and macaroni salad. For $24.99, it was huge, succulent, flavorful and worth the price point! Smoked Moco: the Kiawe-smoked meat was tender, sautéed with bell peppers and onions and topped with a yummy smoked aioli and local egg. The mini for $16.99 was the perfect portion for me. Fish Tacos: the fish was fresh, cooked perfectly on taro tortillas with chili aioli, avocado mousse, shredded lettuce and lomi salmon. The fries were thick and crispy too. Squid Lū'au Combo: with lomi salmon and poi, sweet potato and haupia (a coconut dessert) the squid was cooked in a starchy broth. It was like nothing I've had before. Not too salty but not strong in flavor either. This was my friend's choice and she loves it. We enjoyed everything we had and were so stuffed! They validate parking for the structure.
