First, I've seen some amazing photos taken at night from Sky, so I was looking forward to some scenic night views and Sky's rooftop dining experience from 6pm to 8pm (with reservation) did not disappoint. That was worth 5 stars as was the service from the employees. We too sat on the parking lot side (west side I believe) but, by the glass wall, we could easily see the sun settings, the beaches, the water, the buildings - it was still a nice view for us, but there are tables that go further back to the north that might have more parking garage views that we had, so maybe our location was pretty good for us. Sadly, I could not give 5 stars as there were some other issues that detracted from the overall experience.. First, we ended up with chairs at the table, which was fine - a table should come with chairs, but I'm a bit hefty, so the chairs were not comfortable for me. The wrap around chairs were built for small hipped folks, and a bit embarrassing when I went to stand up and had to shed the chair like a pair of pants. Second, like myself, the food price was pretty hefty. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken (a la carte) and when I also asked for the shrimp (a la carte) was asked how man I would like - and I replied whatever the standard amount that comes with it for $6 shrimp add-on cost would be fine. I was shocked to find out that for the $6 shrimp add-on, that was PER SHRIMP, so I just ordered one. I was expecting some huge shrimp, but all I got was one normally sized large or jumbo shrimp. Third, the food quality was meh. That $6 shrimp I ordered on my Caesar salad was soggy. It didn't smell or taste bad and wasn't spoiled, but it was not what I would have expected. The Caesar Salad was good, but the others in my group ordered salmon which all of them felt was overcooked/too blackened on the outside. For 5 people, we spent about $300 with tip, one alcohol drink, three mocktails plus the 3 salmons, Caesar Salad, Poke dish, and 3 soda waters. Fourth, they had some live musician strumming his guitar, occasionally playing some 80s, 90s, and 2000's songs, but bastardizing them. It wasn't a Hawaiian feel, it was more like they were trying to copy the musical fusion of PF Changs. I was not impressed and mildly annoyed by the song choices and renditions of the artist. I would have preferred more local Hawaiian music, just as when I go to the Caribbean, I liked to hear steel drum music. Bottom line - go here for the roof top views, but eat before you go to save money ordering overpriced, medium quality food. I do not mean any disrespect to Sky's chef's or owners - these are just my personal opinions - couldn't say I could do better, but since I'm the one paying, I would expect better than what I could make myself. read more

Decided to give Sky Bar a try for happy hour, and it was a great spot for a cocktail or two. It wasn't busy, so we were seated quickly at a table right along the edge with a beautiful view. The table was a little small for everything we ordered, but it worked. The drinks were good, and the service was fast and attentive. The oysters, however, were disappointing and not something I'd order again. Overall, I wouldn't come here for the food--there are much better options nearby. If you're looking for a place to enjoy a couple of cocktails with a great view before dinner, I'd definitely recommend it. Just be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat if you're sitting outside during the day. read more

**This is a review for the experience, it is not for the food. My friend wanted to go to SKY for her birthday, so I made a reservation for sunset. After reading the reviews, I opted for drinks and apps, and booked dinner elsewhere. Our table had a nice view, though to take a photo with the sunset, there is only a small corner where this can be done. Our service was good, and the drinks came out quickly. We shared the charcuterie board, which was fine, but just okay for the price. We came on a beautiful evening and it was lovely to sit on the rooftop with good friends and drinks, enjoying the view. Spent 4th of July with our family and it was everything we hoped it would be. Delicious food. We ordered edamame, truffle fries, several sashimi platters (beautiful presentation, quality sashimi very fresh), Porterhouse steaks, mushrooms and potatoes. The steaks were great 32 oz portions.they were juicy and cooked to perfection. entertainment was a Lively DJ and spectacular views of the ocean and the Waikiki skyline. We shared the 8oz steak that was only 4 oz and over salted, the Calabrian chile butter was flavorless and still frozen when it arrived at our table. We also ordered the side mac n cheese and it was bland and definitely frozen/premade. This is a rooftop experience you should try. The views are great and the open air is something to experience. I arrived after 7 and got a bar top table next to the glass. I ordered the sashimi sampler, the Japanese style oysters, the lobster bisque, a house margarita and espresso martini. The fish was very good and delicate but lacked some flavor. The oysters themselves were very good but in my opinion the amount of soy added was heavy. The lobster bisque was a bit of a disappointment. The soup was topped with a giant puff pastry, which was very nice but the ratio of soup to pastry was a little off in my opinion. Also the two pieces of lobster in my soup were very overcooked and rubbery, but the flavor was good. The drinks were fine. For the price/quality of food I rate it a 4. We came here for the view, Happy Hour, small bites, and of course their Mai Tai's. The view was amazing exactly what we expected. It was extremely hot, so the waitress offered us an umbrella. The umbrella was awkward because you had to hold it with one hand and eat with the other hand. So we chose to move our table to the shade. We ordered the wings and truffle fries. The wings were okay, it wasn't what I expected. Not a lot of seasoning, bland and no dipping sauce. The truffle fries lived up to their name. Crispy, nicely plated and a nice blend of cheese. I really don't know what to say about their Mai Tai. It wasn't the best Mai Tai and it wasn't the worst. It was on the sweeter side but it was okay. The spicy margarita was so good my friend said she wanted to bathe in it! LOL The fries were good. The poke nachos, wow! I would have liked bigger pieces of ahi but still the bomb. Sushi roll was ok. My only complaint- and I think this is totally fixable for them, you have to have a reservation..... we sat down and she asked us to move because it was reserved. There isn't much seating. I heard somewhere " If your favorite club is SKY Waikiki, you're a baddie" and while I can't attest if that is fact, I can attest that SKY Waikiki is the best rooftop spot and has an awesome upscale vibe. The views are immaculate from the ocean to the mountains and the city in-between. Located on Kalakaua, I'd suggest parking in either the Waikiki Business Plaza parking garage (I believe you can search that up in your GPS maps) or the Waikiki Shopping Plaza parking garage across the street. Located on the 19th floor, you'll take an elevator and then an escalator up. They have multiple elevators so there's never really a long wait to get upstairs (one of my pet peeves is having to wait long for an elevator, just for that elevator to be too packed). Happy hour is everyday from 4-5pm! From their raw bar, you can get $2 oysters or jaz it up with ponzu, spicy daikon radish, yuzu, green onions for $4. Be sure to check out their poke! Ahi, hamachi salmon, and even beef poke! One of my friends doesn't eat fish but loves beef sushi/ poke from here. The service here is really attentive and friendly. They even have a bathroom attendant that is always so sweet, such a nice and classy touch. SKY Waikiki always has a cool lineup of live music - every time I come in there's either a DJ or live musicians playing local music. If you're looking for a great view for drinks and food, especially for sunset- I recommend this spot. read more

One of my friends was given SKY Waikiki as a Mai Tai recommendation. We were in the area and decided it would be our first stop on a Mai Tai crawl. We hit them during their post-dinner rush so there was no wait for us to get a table. The best seats against the glass wall were all taken so we took a high top. Our server was so kind for unexpectedly being gifted us as one of her tables at the tail end of her shift. Despite kind of being in a corner, we had really great views. SKY Waikiki has live music almost daily, and the guy who was performing during our time there was phenomenal. You can tell he's been in the biz for a long time and knows his craft well! The Mai Tais were a little strong, and not too sweet. A perfect blend! We ordered spicy ahi nachos with the understanding that they weren't horribly spicy for us Zonies - and that was correct. Sky Waikiki was our first dinner spot in Honolulu, and we were blown away. The views were absolutely breathtaking--you get a full panoramic look at the city from the rooftop, and the live music created the perfect ambiance. The vibes were up, and it truly felt like the perfect start to our trip. We ordered the short ribs, truffle fries, a few drinks, and the half chicken, and everything was delicious. The half chicken was incredibly juicy and came with flavorful mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked veggies. Traveling from California, we have visited Sky Waikiki several times in the past. Generally, we love to visit rooftop bars in several metro area locations. Sky Waikiki falls into this category of a great rooftop bar to chill. We popped in for a few appetizers and cocktails. Our server had recently move to Hawaii from out of state 6 months ago. She was super sweet and on top of everything we ordered. Our food choices came out perfectly and very satisfied with the service. I am disappointed with my experience at this establishment. Although my boyfriend is over 21 and presents a valid driver's license, Jonathan, a security employee for the building, has repeatedly refused to allow him into the building. This has happened multiple times without a clear explanation. What makes the situation frustrating is that Jonathan works for the building, not the bar itself, yet he continues to prevent entry despite valid identification being provided. Consistency and fairness are important, and it feels like we are being treated differently without justification. I hope management reviews this situation and ensures that all guests are treated respectfully and according to the same standards. read more

The roof is a little more packed as there are people standing around at the bar and there are tables pushed right against the glass so it can be hard to take pictures in front of the view without objects in the background. We had a party of 13 so we ended up seated around benches with a giant square table in the middle of us at two separate tables. The vibe was definitely more relaxed and chill as you kind of have to eat stooped over the middle table. But we were super happy to be right next to the entertainment! I ordered a Mai Tai which I thought was great! Tasted good and was strong. Service overall was great because of Damien. It was a little bit on the slow side, but Damien's personality made up for some of the waiting. I ended up eating: Truffle Fries, Hawaiian Plantation Ribs, and Braised Pork Belly. The star of the show was definitely the Truffle Fries. The entire table found them highly addicting -- seasoned just right, truffle flavor coming through, crispy and fluffy. Everything else was okay! A lot of us really enjoyed the saffron risotto that came with the pork belly. It was very flavorful and had a velvety texture. The pork belly was okay/good and the ribs were a bit disappointment. The ribs were on the dry side and did not have much flavor. I'd pass on those! BK Espiritu really helped make the night special! We were celebrating a friend's birthday so he sang songs we requested and gave us shoutouts throughout the night. We had an extra fun time because of him! Overall, the restaurant is fun!
