    Blackened Mahi Mahi poke bowl
    Sandy B.

We were exploring Waikiki area not too far from the lagoon and wanted a bite to eat for lunch so stopped in at this bar and eatery. It's very nice w outside tables and umbrellas on the beach view side. We elected for more shade and a bit more fan breeze so we sat inside. This place doesn't have air conditioning but it has the overhead fans inside where we sat. So we were more comfortable there. We could still see the water and get a bit of ocean breeze from the bar area. I had my first Mai tai since I got to the island here. I recommend it when you are looking for a good one. It was layered well and I got a first taste of cherry juice within the top layer which was very tasty and complemented the spirits and other layers. It was happy hour so drinks were much more reasonable in price at $10. Btw happy hour ends at 3pm. The bartenders were very friendly and knew their craft. We enjoyed conversation and recommendations from the staff. We sat at the bar and I ordered my food. It was a large poke bowl with rice, seaweed sprinkles, pickled red onions and other ingredients which supported the Mahi Mahi blackened fish on top. It was a little spicy and very filling. Since this establishment is nearby where we are staying I'm pretty sure I'll be back again.

Food was good. Happy hour food and drinks. Service was fast and friendly. Great for people watching. Sit at the bar and order or order to go to avoid the long line for seating during busy times

Great service from our server and you can't beat the location in the base of Hilton Hawaiian Village right across from Waikiki. You can watch the sailboats and surfers having fun. I recommend coming during happy hour from 2 to 3. We got the smoked Marlin dip which was phenomenal and the GojiChang pork wings which I loved, not too spicy. My sons ordered cheeseburgers and fries off the Keiki menu, but you can also get catch-of the Day, etc. on the Keiki menu with rice and vegetables, which is a pretty great deal. Also the draft beers and Mai tai are on sale during happy hour. $10! They had fabulous live music with a Hawaiian singer and guitar player. I asked for a table in the air-conditioning because we were a bit overheated from being outside and they happily obliged. For me it was definitely a nine out of 10 experience no issues with any quality.

Arrived in Waikiki rather late and were fortunate Tropics Bar & Grill allowed us in before closing! Customer service was great, he urged us to quickly look over the menu and order- however once we got our food, we weren't rush to leave. Chicken wings were flavorful, the tacos were pretty good, however the rice with the garlic shrimp was a little dry. Definitely going back, and order other items!

Great service, terrible sandwich!!! I got the crispy chicken sandwich and it was like rubber. I ate like 5 bites but couldn't eat anymore it was so gross. The fries were good! My dad gave the mahi tacos 6/10

The salad ingredients were fresh and the extra blue cheese was wonderful. The bartender kept my waters coming while I got to enjoy this tasty salad. The service was fast as we walked in and sat at the bar. The 20% gratuities was applied as we were considered to be a large party though we were sitting at the bar.

Solid 4 dining in the Hilton Hawaiin Village. Long wait for dinner but much to do/see in the area while you wait. The text for your table may come faster than estimated so don't stray too far. The menu has options for everyone. The vegetarian options were the Veggie Burger and Chow Fun Noodles. After reading reviews, I opted for the burger. My daughter had the Blackened Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos. The burger was tasty but on the smaller size. The tacos were good. Service was outstanding. This is a nice convenient restaurant option if you're staying at the HHV.

Grilled Catch of the Day Fish Sandwich* Don't see any fish in this sandwich? Neither did I taste any!

I think this place stays open because it's good enough for hotel dining. I got the grilled catch of the day sandwich, which was Mahi Mahi. Worst fish sandwich ever. Well, it was mostly a cole slaw sandwich with a small fish square in it. The bun was huge. The cole slaw itself was very bland.

Went here two separate occasions during our stay at HHV, once for lunch and once for dinner. Very happy overall with the food variety and staff. I also LOVE that their quoted wait time are over-estimated and the next thing you know, you are seated within 5-10 mins (but told it's 25). Happened on both occasions. Food is great and tastes fresh, despite being a hotel restaurant. Definitely a need-to stop at place while in HHV. The view is the beach and water is also very nice!

Well, the waiter was pretty nice. Very attentive. Place has a good bustling vibe. Food selections varied. I had a catch of the day, white fish if I recall. Fish was on a bed of risotto. It was fine, not crazy good but fine. We tried chicken wings. There's only six pieces but the wings and thighs are bigger than the average. Drinks are great. Guys pour them to clients' desires. We did come for breakfast as well. Had island or Hawaiian style eggs Benedict. It makes them Hawaiian because of pulled pork. Again, for morning choices - pretty full selection of items.

Tropics Bar and Grill is visually a nice oceanfront bar at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort in Honolulu. My family and I came for dinner one of the nights we were there on vacation. We were seated immediately with a great view of the ocean. We ordered the Fish Tacos, Mushroom and Swiss Smash Burger with Fries, Kids Hamburger and Fries, Poke Nachos, Hot wings and Coconut Shrimp. I can only really comment on the Mushroom and Swiss Smash Burger because it was what my husband and I shared -- it unfortunately was one of the blandest burgers we have ever had. I am talking ZERO seasoning. I dipped it in ketchup in order to eat it though because I was starving. I believe everyone else in our party liked what they ordered. Our server was amazing - she actually said that the Mushroom and Swiss Smash Burger was a new menu item and asked my opinion on it. I was honest with her and she appreciated it - even gave us a discount on the bill which I thought was unnecessary, but very nice of them to do. I also ordered a Dirty Martini that was heavenly! Overall, we were really disappointed in our meal. I think I would come back again though and give them another try if we ever had the opportunity! Rating is 3.5 stars because of service!

This place always hit it out of the park. I wasn't expecting much but day after day it never disappointed. First arrival night I was surprised how good the half chicken was. Juicy and tender with a crisp skin. The coconut shrimp also so good. All the breakfast was great with the fluffy waffles standing out the most. What surprised me was the oatmeal when I normally cannot bring myself to eat oatmeal this was really one of the best. All the cocktails were perfect. I had 3 servers, Paula, Kevin and Brian were all very attentive and kind. Inside is a little nicer and more roomier with some ac whereas outside can get a little too rugged for me. But otherwise great place to grab a bite !!

    Marjon F.

I don't have any strong opinions about this place. Its decent food with views of the ocean. I think you definitely pay hotel and waterfront prices but it's no different than most places in waikiki on the water. I went here with my parents and uncles family for brunch. Our server, Brian, was super tentative. Only comment i would have is we had to request water for everyone, would be nice if that was automatic or at least he asked us, since it seemed standard everywhere else we went. But overall, good brunch spot.

The restaurant is quite busy during weekday lunch, but the tables cleared pretty quickly. Two of us shared the sampler ($33.99 for pork lau lau, compared to $31.99 for chicken lau lau), although our server said that some individuals order it for themselves. The sampler came with lomi lomi salmon, squid lu'au, chicken long rice, poi, lau lau (pork or chicken), sweet potato and poi. It was filling for the two of us. We thought we might add something else à la cart, but we didn't need anything more. So good. We were surprised by the sweetness of the coconut milk in the squid lu'au. Everything was yummy! And we just can't go here anymore unless changes are made! We used to prefer them over Zippy's, but now they are less than 7-Eleven quality, while charging higher-end prices for the neighborhood. We have given them many chances, hoping it was just a fluke, but we have repeatedly been disappointed. Their chicken has become chewy and fatty, their rice is mediocre, and condiments such as mayonnaise are stripped down to the bare minimum quantity. Chile is poured so lightly that it is practically a minuscule amount. And their prices have continued to rise. I don't know if greedy people took over the restaurant who just don't care anymore, or what is going on. I remember when I used to take people here, and they would be impressed with the quality and quantity--plates just heaping with good cuts of meat, noodles, and rice. Those days are no more. As they say in Japan, the price performance is poor. Furthermore, their staff is rude. I can only imagine it was an owner working this day because it was a face I haven't seen that often. An older gentleman who appeared to be of Okinawan descent, working the cashier register, accosted us because I was privately discussing with my family about splitting different items with them. We were all ordering something, so he wasn't losing any money, but he told us about how prices are double in Waikīkī. First of all, it is rude to interrupt your customers that way. Secondly, we don't go to Waikīkī or care about Waikīkī. What happened to serving the locals? Third, Waikīkī has an assortment of restaurants, prices, and qualities, and they shouldn't be how you base your services. Lastly, I guarantee I could find a better deal in Waikīkī if I wanted to. Next time you're in the area, just go get a $6 bento or a $5 burrito from 7-Eleven next door. I assure you, the price performance and experience will be better. If Rainbow Drive-In is in the business of comparing themselves to other things, let's compare them to 7-Eleven and at least try to be better than them, right? I can get mochiko chicken from 7-Eleven for $6.99 that is similar in portion size and better quality. Meanwhile, they are serving their fatty, dry chicken for $16.75. Highway robbery! And they are not fancy, with their dirty picnic tables and plastic cutlery. They are just a step above a food truck, if that. Save yourself from the hype. They have gone downhill like a landslide. Go elsewhere.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

As we waited for our food, we noticed a dessert chilling on the ledge and joked with my wife that it was likely ours. Sure enough after 10 mins, the ice cream guy asked the cashier whose it was and at that time was our number called. Sadly, the ice cream had already started to melt. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most. We appreciate the experience and the hospitality, but the flavors just didn't quite match our personal preferences.

Good local Hawaiian food restaurant. Street parking only. Small restaurant I believe it was Ono…read moreHawaii on Kapahulu before. Now it is named the Da Ono Hawaiian Foods. Either the owner or the manager seemed like a one man show. He was the server, bus boy, and chef. Husband got the pipikalua short ribs/he enjoyed. Sisters got the pork lau lau which came with sweet potato, rice or poi, lomi lomi salmon (more onion and tomato than salmon). i got the chicken lau lau, again stuffed with chicken, not enough taro leaves. The Haupia was smoky, so either burnt or something- inedible! Only six tables in the entire restaurant. The gentleman that was serving us I believe was also the bus boy, cook, server and cashier! Place is a hole in the wall with missing ceiling tiles and exposed panels above our table (gross!!). Sis loves this dive so we keep coming back!
