As a local, I highly recommend this small business. It wasn't the food that sold me, it was the generosity of giving back to the service employees. I forget what the discount is, but I just know that you are a service employee who works in Hawaii, they offer you a discount on your order; and that's how you bring in business and build loyalty with no just tourists, but locals as well. First off, I neeever heard of Lulu's before, but apparently it's been around for years and is a staple in Hawaii/Waikiki. It's definitely someplace that knows their main clientele will probably be 99% tourists so that may be why I never thought of it. But after today, I'll for sure recommend it to people who ask for a good place to eat and don't mind being in Waikiki. The view is amazing! It's got a panorama of Waikiki beach and the weather was beautiful when we went. I don't know what it's like in the winter time or when it's really windy, but we were sure blessed with good weather. I wonder if it gets hot here since the windows are always open? Strangely enough, I got a pasta. Why? Personally, it's because I was very protein heavy throughout the day and I figured, why not start with the most random item! Who needs a local dish??? Everyone at the table was very satisfied with the loco moco and the drinks we all got. First off, we were a group of 65+ year olds, not the easiest group to work with, just saying. We arrived at Lulu's tired, thirsty and hungry and Lulu's provided everything we needed to put us back on track. The restaurant is located on the second floor with entrances on both the Kalakaua and Kapahulu sides. We came for a late lunch around 2pm. The Lulu moco was loaded, and I loved how there was both beef and kalua pig on it. The gravy was delicious and a hefty portion. The fish and chips were solid as well. Surprisingly good brunch, especially considering this is typically a night spot! We ordered mochi pancakes, aloha avocado toast, and one of the egg dishes. Everything was very good, and the kids were very happy to see so many different kinds of mochi pancakes (strawberry, banana, ube, etc)! The environment is casual, open-air on the second floor, and you can see the water from most tables (although keep in mind you're across the street, not on the beach). Made reservations for a group of nine for our first night in Waikiki, and it was more than I expected. We got seated at our own "private" table in the corner, which was nice, and our server, Kaylee, was so cool and attentive. We ordered a round of drinks and our entrées, which came out pretty quickly. I will say the drinks were just alright (we all basically ordered piña coladas). They were a bit disappointing, but it was fine. The food, however, was surprisingly pretty good. I had the Chicken Vodka Cream Linguine, which was not too creamy and had a lot of flavor. I personally really enjoyed it. A couple of the guys ordered the Loco Moco, and one loved it, one said it was salty in a good way, and one said it was overly salty, so take that as you will. A couple of other people ordered the poke nachos, which they said were good, and others got the ahi poke. Portions were quite large. The place itself was lively and large. It can seat a good number of people, and even though we were kind of off to the side with our own party, it still felt comfortable. This restaurant is located on the second floor and also accessible from the Park Shore Hotel. The service provided by Ricky was EXCELLENT! He was friendly and had GREAT recommendations that were AMAZING!! A little expensive, BUT restaurant had a fantastic view of Waikiki and the zoo from the window. My group had a reservation for 13 for about two weeks, and unfortunately had to wait 10 minutes after our reserved time to get our table ready, and they stuck us in the corner no where near the window, lol. Grabbed lunch here on a Friday about noon. We were seated along the bar facing the side street as the spots directly facing the ocean are 'reserved' seats. Mrs. picante and I got away for a shared milestone birthday this year without the kids, and enjoyed a few days in Waikiki. We had an absolutely wonderful time, although admittedly, this was not my favorite Hawaiian location or vacation. Still, one of the highlights was eating at Lulu's Café no fewer than four times during our stay. Yes, my wife really liked the place. One could argue that is due largely to their substantial gluten-free menu, and her recent celiac diagnosis. But to be fair, each time we visited, we tried a different dish, and everything was delicious. As you might expect in a place like Waikiki, the servers were all very attentive, and sweet. Our drinks never ran dry, and they checked in on us just the right number of times. On two of our visits, we sat at the counter overlooking the street below, with a beautiful view of Waikiki Beach. My diet experienced a sudden, painful, and calorie related death somewhere between a breakfast of mochi pancakes, and a subsequent visit that watched me consume a moco Loco. I thought the beat salad was absolutely delightful, and probably the healthiest thing I ate during my trip to Hawaii. You can't beat the burgers, and here they have one that comes with a big thick juicy patty, and a big pile of pulled barbecue pork. Do not come here on a diet. Of all the places in Hawaii that we ate on this trip, this place by far was our favorite. read more

While the owner did reach out on my review via the comment left here, I don't feel comfort in their response. I left knowing that there was still a lack of care about allergies and an unpleasant situation with multiple staff members, not just one. The owner mentioned they regret the interaction with their team and will speak with management, but one of our issues was management as well, so if the issue is staff and management, I'm concerned there will be no improvements. The overall experience would be rated less than a 1. A $100 meal here was in my opinion a waste of money and time while I am saddened at because I really wanted to live it here.
