You get what you expect here. It's not fancy, it's not fine dining and you won't be running to tell your friends and family to try it, but it delivers what it needs to. We usually come here for breakfast on our first day of the trip, it's not far from our hotel and it's on the beach in a nice spot. The service is always great and friendly, we've had no issues whatsoever the several times we've been. The food isn't too out there, but there aren't a ton of places giving you the same thing either. breakfast burritos, gravy covered biscuits and moco loco, solid restaurant eggs any style, the toast is great too. As long as you're going here for the casual, fun, paradise themed bar and restaurant it is, it's a good time. The mimosas aren't bad either, and at a great price! I wouldn't be surprised if we keep our tradition of coming here, and I'll keep my tradition of trying a new meal each time until I've had them all! read more

I recently visited Cheeseburger In Paradise during breakfast time because it was one of the few places showing the FIFA World Cup game, and I wish I had gone somewhere else. This place is not exactly known for its breakfast, so I guess that was our mistake, but we decided to check it out anyway since we didn't have many options that early in the day. Also, I guess we were not the only ones with the same idea, because the place was packed. A cool feature is that they have numerous screens throughout the restaurant, so regardless of where you sit, you can watch your favorite team play. The staff was amazing and ensured everything ran smoothly. However, the main reason I'm giving them three stars is that the food was not great and the coffee tasted absolutely horrendous (seriously bad). Would I come back? Probably not, but the only reason I'm not giving them below three stars is because the staff was truly wonderful. read more

I am so conflicted writing this review because our waitress, Kristy, was absolutely wonderful--attentive, sweet, and fast with our delicious food and drinks. Unfortunately, the experience was completely marred by the hostess, Bryu (I believe that was the spelling). We politely asked to move our seats to get out of the direct sun, and she acted visibly annoyed that we even asked. It got worse from there: she stood nearby talking about us to other staff members, laughing and pointing in our direction. It was incredibly rude and unprofessional, leaving us feeling deeply uncomfortable and upset. Kristy deserves five stars, but management seriously needs to address Bryu's (again, I believe that this was the spelling) behavior. Note, that if you have a stroller, there's not a lot of room, so they'll ask you to place it up front near the host stand. It' a little loud in there, but it's in Waikiki. There's truly something here for everyone! From the moment we walked in, we felt so welcomed. Gary (the assistant manager) and Brooklyn (our server) were absolutely incredible--both went above and beyond to make sure our family was taken care of the entire time. When we were trying to snap a photo, Camden kindly stepped in and offered to take it for us, which meant so much and gave us a perfect memory to take home. The service alone would bring us back, but the food made it unforgettable. The coconut shrimp was out of this world--perfectly crispy with a sweet chili dipping sauce, and it actually tasted like real coconut (even the non-seafood lovers in our group couldn't get enough!). The last time being in 2007, so alot has changed since my last trip here, but the ambiance of open windows and an ocean breeze is still the same. The coconut shrimp was delicious and the dipping sauce was perfect. I ordered the fish Tacos add avocado. And they were so fresh & flavorful. My BF went with the chicken bacon Swiss, plane add mushrooms and it was so fire. Being happy Hour I had a mui mai Thai, very good. We visited on a busy Saturday evening around 6:00 p.m., and we were pleasantly surprised that there was no wait for a table. The service was incredibly fast from start to finish. Our server, Monica, was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. I'd also like to recognize Avi, who brought our food out to our table so quickly. Located on the busy stretch of Kalākaua Avenue, which serves as the main boulevard of Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, Cheeseburger In Paradise is the result of a wild idea of friends Laren Gartner and Edna Bayliff, who went from picture frame makers to sellers of cheeseburgers after visiting Maui in the mid-1980s. From this unique background comes two entrepreneurs who simply craved a cheeseburger while traveling in Hawaii and they somehow had the wherewithal to open their own chain of restaurants in both Waikiki and Maui. As times change and things go out of their control, Cheeseburger in Paradise is down to their final restaurant looking out at Waikiki Beach, which opened here back in 1997 almost thirty years ago. With their open-air windows and green exterior that opens out onto the street as if it's a promenade welcoming tourists and locals alike seven days a week Cheeseburger in Paradise has become as iconic as any other legacy business along Kalākaua Avenue with the difference here being they specialize in greasy burgers. No trip to Waikiki is made without a stop at Cheeseburger in Paradise and after a long morning hike along the Diamond Head trail, I couldn't find the most perfect time to enjoy a lunchtime meal. It wasn't too busy as I approached their host stand, as there were plenty of seats at the bar area, but this visit I preferred a table to sit at and there was one that overlooked Kalākaua Avenue with an open bay window that was perfect. My server, who also served as one of the restaurant's bartenders was a pleasant person to be around, as the menu at Cheeseburger in Paradise is separated into categories including their Cheeseburgers, Starters, From the Garden, House Favorites, their signature drinks including Tropical drinks, Spirits, Draft Beers, Cans & Bottles, Wine, Smoothies and Soda & Juices. Although a lot of their cheeseburger options were described so deliciously, I decided to order their BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger which had Colby Jack cheese, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, and an onion ring drizzled with BBQ sauce. Served on a brioche bun and with a side of fries, the Cheeseburgers here are made with their signature blend of ribeye, chuck, and premium ground beef and cooked medium. To pair with my meal, since it was only lunchtime, I opted for their Chocolate Smoothie, which in essence was a chocolate milkshake. It wouldn't take too long for my cheeseburger to be presented at my table, thankfully I had my chocolate shake to keep in my company which had a chocolate syrup drizzle and put in a chilled glass tiki mug. The burger which was presented as one of their employees favorite burgers on their menu was a juicy patty that was accentuated by the handful of strips of crispy bacon. With way too much food especially for a lunchtime meal, I was only able to eat half of my meal, and I made sure to take home the rest of my burger in a takeout box to dine on later. My total bill was $29.92 which for a shake and burger was a reasonable amount to pay for a memorable meal at a local institution in Waikiki. I'm so glad that Cheeseburger in Paradise is still around, especially since all of their other locations have closed. With their sister restaurant, Waikiki Brewing Company, taking over the spot across Kalākaua Avenue, this original location continues to prove it still has gas left in the tank. And for that, I'm grateful because they're still serving up the same juicy signature burgers that made them a favorite in the first place. read more
