I was pleasantly surprised to see Von's in this Palama Supermarket and that there were different offered items on the menu. In the beginning, Vons only offered drumsticks and in big quantities. It's not like the ready made ones from fast food chicken places. It's made fresh to order so allow yourself time (at least 15 minutes) for wait. It's always on my mind, and when I'm going to a get together with friends, my first thought would be to order something from here, but never materialized. This particular Vons is one of the originals located inside Palama Supermarket near Don Quijote along Makaloa St. When I first approached the counter for Vons, and stood at a distance to view the menu, I didn't see anyone. For a second, I thought it was closed. But after taking a couple of steps closer, I noticed a lady on her phone, hunched down behind the cash register. Even when I reached the counter, I had to say "Hello" to even get her attention. I also noticed a couple of workers in the back head down on their smartphones too! I ordered the 10-piece Crispy Garlic for $15.99. All the flavored wings are the same price. 20-piece for $28.45, and one dollar less for plain wings. This Vons also offers Roast Oven Wings (plain and BBQ flavor). The lady said it will take 15 minutes, so I just shopped around in Palama. I wasn't sure how long I took since I didn't check the time after I ordered, but when I came back, I did see several paper bags, so I thought I'd ask if my order was ready. And wouldn't you know, everyone was sitting down and on their smartphones. Are you serious? Is anyone working? Is my order even being prepared? The lady looked at me, then turned her head to look at the timer in the back and told me it'd be 7 more minutes. I must've shopped too quickly. Even when my order was finally ready, I didn't get a thank you or goodbye. I said "thank you!" I probably didn't need to. Seriously though, it's unbelievable that everyone there is just glued to their smartphones, and needs to have customers call them to be acknowledged. It's hard to deal with the indifferent attitude. I never knew there was a Von's Chicken in Palama Market! The only time I've seen Von's was on Pensacola Street, but I was always hesitant to go there because of the parking. The cashier told me my order would take 20 minutes and since I was already prepared to wait, I did some grocery shopping. Came back a little longer than 20 minutes so I went to grab it, the cashier placed my order in a plastic bag but poked holes in it with a fork so that it doesn't get soggy which I really liked! She also didn't close the container all the way so that the hot air could escape. When I got home, the chicken was so warm and EXTRAAAAA crispy. It was so good! I really liked the original. It was perfect the way it was. The crispy garlic was really good too, but I realized what I really wanted was actually the crispy shoyu, but somehow ended up ordering the crispy garlic instead. Per Yelp reviewers and friend Paul, I ordered 10 shoyu wings. Korean lady said order will be ready in 10 to 12 minutes. They have 2 male employees to prepare chicken wings and drumettes. My order had 11 pieces of wings but at least it wasn't short. Chicken wings are bigger size than regular wings. They are little crispy with shoyu flavor. I would like to come back and try the garlic the next time. We went with what we always order, the crispy fried shoyu chicken. It's $13.88 for a half order and $25.38 for a full order. The half order consists of 10 wings and the full order consists of 20 wings. There wings are so good. They make it when it's ordered so it takes around 10-15 minutes for the chicken to be ready. The outside of the chicken is crispy and has a nice flavoring to it. The inside is juicy and tender. Koreans aren't known for fried chicken. However, between Vons and Itchy Butt, the Koreans have the fried chicken game on lock. I hate to say it, but Korean fried chicken is so much better than American fried chicken. Von's Chicken located in the Palama Market on Makaloa Street was the only branch open on a Sunday. The server at the window was prompt, polite and efficient. I was disappointed to find only chicken wings as the fair, but went with 10 pieces plain crunchy and 10 pieces spicy sauce flavors. The chicken came out HOT and in their respective take out boxes. The server pierced the large carry bag with her bear claw looking piercer to let the steam pore out of the bag - lest the chicken wings lose their crunch. Third, pickled radish is not included. -- Until now, I'm still unsure if the employee forgot to put it in or if it really doesn't come with your order -- For Koreans, this is a must that comes with your order. (It's like that garlic dipping sauce which must come with your Papa John's pizza, if you know what I mean.) At least let the customer know if it's not included!! Fourth, poor service. The young man that took my order had a bad attitude. I noticed his accent, so I tried to place my order in Korean but he replied in English so I thought I mistook him for Korean.
