Perfect for easy dinners that taste amazing and include so much food you'll have enough for lunch the next day! Everything is so flavorful and always prepared to perfection. I've even stopped by just to pickup banchan since all of those are so tasty as well. They also sell combo plates which have a lot of food included as well. Highly recommend calling the order in ahead of time (even hours ahead of around any holiday) for easy pickup. The inside is very small with only a small counter and a couple seats to wait. First tried here probably close to 10 years ago and recently returned for the husband's birthday weekend. He wanted Korean takeout that wouldn't break the bank, wasn't too fancy, and was filling and I'm glad we ended up here. The restaurant is located right across from McDonalds and in the same shopping complex as Wagaya on King Street. Easy enough to find parking in the lot or on the street. Service is good and quick which is needed for a takeout small place like this. I got a Kalbi and meat jun plate and the husband got the meatball and the katsu. We both thoroughly enjoyed all of our food and of course shared a little of everything too. The banchans were tasty, there's a huge variety, and portions are pretty plentiful. The fried food was freshly cooked, hot, crispy, and not oily. My husband was so confused why I didn't bring him here sooner but we know it's going to be in our rotation now. Sauces are 25 cents extra if it doesn't come with the plate already and it's worth it. We owe the dude a quarter still so we'll 100% be back! Although people have said they missed the previous management, I think the current owners are doing a great job. Today, I got my favorite cold noodle dish, bi bim kook soon. You get to choose the heat. Mild or medium is usually good for me. I also like to get a plate of just side dishes. In the selection of sides you'll find what you expect to see - cucumber kim chee, cabbage kim chee, seaweed, choy sum, seaweed, broccoli, corn, shoyu potato, etc. But, what is unique here (and what I always get) are the fried eggplant bites and the potato/sweet potato salad. This is really a takeout place. There are table and chairs but it's mostly there for people waiting for their takeout. I don't usually have trouble finding parking in the lot in front. Ordered the the XL family pack which comes with Kalbi, meat Jun, mandoo, bbq chicken, bulgogi, spicy pork, rice and 4 choices of vegetables. Mama Woo's BBQ has been around for about 24 years and offers Korean food. The current owner, Charlie and his family, have owned it for about a year. You can dine in or take out. They also offer catering. I called in my order of 1 BBQ Chicken plate and 1 Meat Jun with Kalbi plate. They told me it'll be ready in 10-15 minutes. I arrived and it was ready on time. You get 4 sides with each plate and the meat is laying on a bed of rice. I chose eggplant, potatoes, bean sprouts and cabbage. Their eggplant was surprisingly very good so give it a try! The other plate was 2 orders of broccoli and 2 orders of Chap Chae. Customer service was friendly and I got a chance to learn about their business from Charlie. While there is a small parking lot and limited street parking, Mama Woo's is a solid spot to head to for Korean food. Located on King Street next to a small array of other businesses, it is visible on the corner from the road. There is some seating inside but it seems to be for waiting for your food. It is mainly waiting space and the counter inside. The counter is straight ahead with a menu behind the counter and a selection of food on the counter to help you pick your sides. We like to get the meat jun, fish jun, and BBQ chicken. Each of these is tasty and consistent each time we order. Some of our favorite sides are the fried eggplant (so good!), shoyu potatoes, japchae, and tteokbokki. While I have seen most of the sides at other Korean spots, I have not really seen fried eggplant before. It is definitely my favorite of the sides. It is thick and tasty with a sort of fried dough and eggplant flavor. Each plate we get is about $18 but the portions are large enough as to where one plate can last multiple meals. I was greeted by a nice young man who was more than kind, and delivered the most excellent service possible. The side dishes were seasoned well and the kimchi is actually good now. I used to just eat it before, but now it's pretty good now. I usually go for sour kimchi, but this one is a little sweet and it was good. I'll get it again. The japchae was not flimsy/soggy and had a good flavor. The sprouts were seasoned. I used to have to add salt before because it was lacking. Not anymore. I ordered katsu with spicy pork. The katsu and sauce are pretty good. A thick katsu sauce that I really enjoy. NOT the orange goopy kind. Actual tonkatsu style sauce. The spicy pork had hints of char. I love spicy pork char. The original Mama Woo has retired. I've been eating her food since she was next to Costco tire shop Hawaii Kai, so at least 2 decades. Initially I heard mixed reviews, like the food wasn't as good anymore now that there's a new owner so I stayed away. Then one day a few months ago I really wanted meat Jun so I gave it a try AND GUESS WHAT? CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED. Thank you new owners! This is KEY, because the original owners were cash only for the last 25 yrs, and a lot of times I avoided this place because I don't have cash. BANCHANS are better! It's like they took all her recipes and made it just a little better! The eggplant is definitely better now, and the potato salad is perfect! Cabbage and greens are tasty. Dang everything is better. MEAT JUN is better! So before, the meat Jun was little bit dry and didn't have as much flavor. Now it tastes like it's been marinated longer and better cuts of meat(?) or something. Definitely an improvement. The sauce is still the same tho. SERVICE was very good. There was a younger Asian guy who was in the front now. I didn't ask his name but he's great. Just take out and no inside seating. Came home and started to eat our lunch my meat jun was good very thin batter which I liked. My 2 sides were jap chae and shoyu potatoes. My hubby said he's spicy BBQ pork was soft and not too spicy. He's sides were seaweed and shredded daikon. All in all it was worth the mini portions. Annyeonghaseyo! We came over to Moiliili on a weeknight during dinner time to run an errand. The hubby was craving Korean BBQ so I suggested Mama Woo's, which was nearby and we'd passed by on so many occasions. Since we had some time, we decided it was a good chance to try them out! There was a gentleman ahead of us waiting for his take out order, so we took a moment to study their banchan and menu. The cashier (Matthew) answered our question about the squid, took our order and even offered a sample of their fried eggplant (!) banchan, saying it was a little on the sweet side. Omgoodness it was delicious! Just a hint of sweetness to the savory shoyu glaze, so very yummy! We sat on the chairs for maybe 5 minutes and our food was ready! I ordered the BBQ Chicken plate ($15.95) with Kim chee, daikon Kim chee, chap Chae and the fried eggplant. The chicken was conveniently cut up into pieces. My hubby ordered the stir fried squid ($19.95) with Kim chee, chap Chae, fried eggplant and seaweed. Their Kim chee is legit! From personal experience, we've learned that if a Korean BBQ place has good Kim chee, it will be good and we were not disappointed. All the banchan was delicious and of course the BBQ Chicken was juicy and the squid was tasty! Very happy with the quality and quantity of the food as well as the politeness of the employees . The shop was VERY busy so we recommend calling in if you know what you're going to order. The meatball plate is a meatball jun that came with five patties. The hubby got the bbq chicken and mochiko chicken combo $17.95. The spicy chicken wings didn't disappoint. It was marinated in a sweet and spicy sauce. It definitely had a kick to it. The oysters were huge and plump. The plate came with three wings and three oysters. You get your choice of four sides and rice. I opted for five sides and no rice. I got the choy sum, fried eggplant, potato salad, shoyu potato and japchae. The sides were ok. I wouldn't get the fried eggplant again. It was fried, cold and greasy. Rice was mixed old rice with new rice, veggies 4 choices was horrible. Some veggies had no taste and others were too much vinegar and over marinated. No tofu and no watercress. Growing up and spending most summers in Honolulu, we've tried a lot - a lot - of a la carte/Korean plate lunch places, and Mama Woo's is always our favorite. Mama Woo's always scratches that itch when I'm craving comfort food and the unique-to-Hawaii Asian American cuisine experience.
