I eat here a lot. It's smack dab in the middle of where I live and my job. When there's no place else to go, I come here. My go to as of late has been their kalbi & bbq chicken plate $22.29. It comes with four sides, two scoops of rice and two mandoos. I like to come on Mondays and Wednesdays, because they have the eggplant veggies that I like. It's only available on those days. The other sides that I usually get are the shoyu potatoes, mayo potatoes and cucumber kimchi. Sometimes, when I don't feel like rice, I'll get the chap chae instead. Their meats are usually excellent: well marinated, tender and grilled to perfection. I also love that this dish comes with two pieces of fried mandoo. Out of all the Korean bbq plate lunch spots, Peppa's is my favorite. read more

I live nearby so this is my go-to spot whenever I'm too tired to cook. The food is consistently good. My usual is the mini barbecue chicken plate, but I'll switch it up every now and then and it's always solid. Only small issue I've run into is with the phone. A few times my calls have gone straight to voicemail, but when I tried right after from a friend's phone the call went through fine. Not sure if it's a phone system issue on their end or something else, but it's happened more than once. Overall still a reliable place for me when I need a quick, good meal. read more

Peppas is the place you go after school with friends after you all gather all your money together to share a plate lunch. Or after work after a long shift and you don't wanna cook. 2 plates could feed the WHOLE family. The ole reliable in my opinion. The sides are always fresh, the mandoo and chicken cutlets are always crispy. The meatjun is soft and tender. I have never been disappointed ordering a plate here. My recommendation: 1) order ahead, juuuuust in case they're busy. 2) order the regular, so you've got lunch for the next day read more

Peppas Korean BBQ has been a favorite in our family for many years. Located in the McCully Marketplace and fronting Wilder avenue. There is always a small crowd waiting to order or for their food. Doesn't matter the time of day, there are always people! Wait is not long tho as the counter persons keep the line moving. And I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for my food to be cooked and served! Is this favorite place to sit and enjoy a meal...no. But it is one of my all time favorites for takeout after a long day. Service is always friendly. Portions are generous. Taste is on point. I can easily enjoy a plate for two or three meals. With the food being so tasty, I definitely dont mind! Favorites are the "yummie special" or the meat jun or seaweed soup. Entrees preferred with no rice which allows for an additional side of banchan. Yes please! Thank you Peppa's for consistently feeding the masses..! read more

This is my man's favorite place for Korean BBQ. It's your typical local Korean food, except their portions are quite generous! I always end up ordering the Peppa's Special, which is basically a mixed plate. You have the option of including rice or not. If out opt out of rice, you get an extra vegetable side! If I already have rice at home, I usually do this option. Speaking of vegetables, they have a good variety! If you go closer to closing time, it's very limited though since they seem to stop prepping. Peppas is located in Makiki, across the parking lot from Paula's Sports Cards, Etc. read more

I am obsessed with their meat jun, that's all I could think about during the rest of our trip in Oahu. Their portion sizes are hefty, the service is quick and the food is DELICIOUS. All of the banchan is amazing as well. It's a short drive away from Waikiki, away from the tourists. I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

I learned my lesson. Been back several times since my last review. But now I just stick to the veggie plate. They give a lot in the plate plus the price is very reasonable especially compared to other Korean restaurants. Plus they have a very good selection that contain all of my favorites. [HANDICAP] There are two handicap parking stalls, one directly in front of the restaurant and another across the way. read more

I will literally drive to town just to eat Peppas. Their food is always amazing! The meat is always cooked very nicely. I've never had anything that was undercooked or overcooked! Their flavors are scrumptious too. They must soak the meats for the perfect amount of time, as it is always very flavorful and not overbearing. I've tried other places, and in my opinion, they have the best bibimkooksoo. It's never watery as the sauce is evenly mixed. The vegetables/sides are always very fresh too. When I went in, I asked for daikon and the front of the house cashier went into the back to get some out of their refrigerator. From coming here for so long, I know the owner is super on it about food temperature and overall quality of the food. He does not play around and only gives out the best to customers. If something is not to his standard, he corrects the issue right away. I like that! The environment in the store is always very chill and clean. They play light music and keep the tables wiped down. If you're in the area, I suggest giving them a try! You won't be disappointed :) read more

Opened in 2002 by owner Chong Hon Kim, Peppa's Korean Barbecue in Makiki was a homegrown Korean plate-lunch eatery intended to bring authentic Korean-influenced barbecue and plate lunch meals to a wide cross-section of the community. Although Yummy Korean BBQ had been around in Honolulu in 1986 and known for its casual, affordable veggie filled plate lunches, Peppa's had their spicy dishes that made people think of the Peppa's name, e.g., spicy pork, bulgogi (salty & spicy), spicy fried chicken, tofu soup, and spicy chicken wings. Owner Kim expanded Pepppa's to a 2nd location in the Kam Shopping Center in Kalihi in 2001. This review is for the original Peppa's in Makiki. The restaurant serves comfort food of plate lunches (kalbi, bbq beef/chicken, meat jun, bi bum bap, soups); noodles & soups; curries; local specials (loco moco, hamburger steak, chop steak, chicken katsu, spicy pork hokki katsu); specials (fried chicken wings, fish jun, fried mundoo, seafood); and combos of the above. They also offer mini plates, an extra value meal, and catering services. I've tried the following: * Spicy pork. While the pork is mildly spicy, it is very flavorful due to being marinated prior to grilling. No complaints. * Kalbi. Perfectly marinated as how kalbi should be. I would order this every single time if I could. * BBQ chicken. Huge skinless thighs, marinated like the other meats, and grilled/charred to perfection! While I enjoyed the bbq meats above, what I found also outstanding were the selection and quality of their banchan selections, which is different from other similar Korean restaurants. They are about 12 different banchan selections available, and I have tried the following: * Korean shoyu potato. The cut potatoes are huge, probably from baking potatoes, and they are perfectly cooked (and not still raw or mushy from overcooking) with the right amount of shoyu and seasoning. * Egg omelet roll. Mixed with bits of green onion and carrot, the omelet is rolled as in Japanese cuisine. You certainly don't find this in other Korean takeout restaurants. * Choi sum. Marinated with the right amount of sesame oil and other seasonings, it is cooked flawlessly. * Chop chae. Long rice mixed with long green beans, carrots, cabbage, and onions, with the right amount of seasonings, and it is delicious; one of the best of I've had! * Kim chee cucumber. Crunchy and spicy chunks of cucumbers and onion slices, a perfectly made dish! * Eggplant + veggies. carrot, onion, bell pepper. Never saw this elsewhere before, but this unique veggie dish had its own special marinade that sets Peppa's apart! I came the right day to try this out! I have yet to try their tofu, cabbage/carrot, mac salad, kim chee, and bean sprouts banchans, and if they are any indication of the above, they should be excellent as well. Note that for the regular plates you get 4 banchan selections (5 selections if no rice), and for the mini plates 3 banchan selections (2 selections if no rice). While restaurant prices have increased everyhere, Peppa's higher prices are still reasonable for the generous portions that you get. At least that's what my adult son says, as he visited here twice in the last few years and ordered takeout on his own from Peppa's, remembering his favorite Korean eatery. Staff is friendly and efficient. While all orders are made to order, the cooks are working as fast as they can, as your orders are ready within minutes! The restaurant interior is bright, spacious, clean, casual, and cozy. There are about 4 tables with chairs for indoor dining, although most diners opt to take out. While I was waiting for my order, there was a steady stream of customers coming in to order. Many are apartment/condo dwellers who live nearby, and many attend UH Manoa, Roosevelt High, and Punahou schools. Hours of operation are from 10:30a to 9p daily. Located in the Makiki Shopping Village next to Village Wine Center and Subway, free parking is available in the private lot that is shared with other businesses. I was impressed by this popular, long-standing Peppa's, as they're known for their fast service, generous portions, reasonable prices, delicious marinated grilled meats, and variety of tasty banchan items! Yes, I'll definitely be back! Support local! read more

Been going here for a decade and a half and it's still good. My friend used to work there when I was younger and always stacked the sides so when she left I stopped going for a while cuz I felt like I wasn't getting as much lol. But I recently went back about a month ago and forgot how good it was. Their plates are SO FULL and their sides are better than Yummy's and Pearl's imo. One plate usually lasts me a few days, so it's worth it even with inflated prices. It's always busy when I pass by and the food comes out really fast. Best place to get food from in Makiki Plaza. Lots of places to sit inside too it's always lively in there. I never see people sitting in L&L or Sushiman haha. read more

Peppa's Korean BBQ - Bbq chicken and mandoo mixed plate. - Korean Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Good food, good value, and huge portions! Can easily share with another or save half for another hearty meal. If you're a newbie, The peppas special is always a great choice -- has a little of everything. Mandoo always hits the spot. Recommended sides: Mayo potato, shoyu potato, noodles. Pro tip: ask for extra red sauce if you like a little kick. Mild spice and adds flavor. Couple tables inside to eat on. Staff is nice. I Always phone order if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

You can't go wrong with anything from Peppas but make sure you get the garlic potato salad with anything you get. It's soooo delicious

Had the meat Jun and bbq chicken plate. Meat Jun was good, meat was pretty thin and tender and the breading was light--not too heavy. However, the breading did fall apart pretty easily. BBQ chicken was marinated well and was very tender. Sides were great, I had the shoyu potato, Mac salad, japchae, and kimchi cucumber. Shoyu potato and Mac salad were yummy! Kimchi cucumber was a little too salty for me. Mac salad had a bit too much mayo. I also had a side order of mandoo which was good! Took some home for dinner and stuck them in the air fryer and they were just as good as new. read more

My husband saw some yelpers reviewed this place so after a pick up at Walmart we went there to buy lunch and dinner. I ordered mini meat jun and my husband ordered mini spicy pork. The meat jun if you like egg batter then this is for you I like a lightly egg batter dipped on the thinly sliced meat. The egg batter was heavy. The spicy pork my husband said had a good charred taste but lacking the spice level. The banchan was ok I tasted better. 2 mini plates and 1 plate of bim bim kook sou cold noodles cost about $52.00 plus tax. If you in the Makiki area this is located at the makiki village shopping ctr. read more

After doing a pick up order from Walmart we decided to try Peppa's. Located in the Makiki Village Shopping Center. It's the first business on the left as you enter the parking lot. Got lucky and had a hadicap stall right in front of Peppa's entrance. The restaurant had a clean and open feel. A few tables for dine in. Service was pleasant. The food came out fast. I ordered the mini spicy pork and my wife had the mini meat jun. We also ordered the bi bim kook soo for dinner. My wife said that the meat jun had a thick egg batter. She prefers a lighter batter. My spicy pork was tender and had a light char which I like. Flavor was ok but the heat wasn't there. The ban chan that I ordered was ok for fast food. Enjoy read more

Hungry deals... Craving a bit of variety Peppa's Korean BBQ is a great place to take care of everyone's palate as every plate comes with our favorite banchan choices and isn't that really part of the fun is that you're able to make the choices. Peppa's Korean BBQ is located in the Makiki Shopping Village an old school place that's home to many places for the neighboring area or for folks like me who just have a sudden craving and with lots of free parking in the back or as I got luck to grab one right beside the restaurant grabbing a take out plate was so easy and convenient. Service here is fast and friendly as I decided on the kalbi and chicken combination which comes with four choices of sides or what I do is no rice and I get an additional choice of side making it a five choice and gosh the load it comes with is quite hearty is putting it mildly. Not only that it came with a couple of huge pieces of kalbi and chicken (which was a bit salty for my personal preference) but a couple of mandoo as well which makes this plate totally shareable as finishing this solo is quite the impossible task. The vibe here is nice with a few tables for you to enjoy your plate on the spot but taking this plate home is the best option for your food coma to set in as this comfort food is very real and settled my cravings as well. Thank you! read more

Peppa's Korean BBQ - Peppas Special! Kalbi, bulgogi, bbq chicken and 2 mandoo. - Korean Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

It's near my home and consistently good! Quick and yummy. Never an issue with their food. Thank you.

The portion of food served on your plate is perfect, tasty and the sides are made fresh.

Ah, Peppa's Korean BBQ. A mainstay of the Makiki Shopping Village for quite a few years now, this Korean BBQ restaurant hasn't changed all that much. While the prices have increased (inflation sucks!) the portions are still generous, the ambience remains firmly casual, and the service is still friendly! I've tried most of the items on their menu, and I can wholeheartedly recommend both their BBQ Chicken & their Chicken Katsu, followed by their Meat Jun! If you're ever in the Makiki area, I recommend that you try Peppa's. It's worth the price! read more

I really like coming to Peppa's Korean BBQ. Either in Manoa Valley or in Makiki. Both have plenty of parking out front. Yesterday, I came here to pick up dinner for me and my better half. As soon as I walked in, the friendly ladies greeted me with a loud welcome! They were ready to take my order, although I called in advance as I already decided on what to get. I ordered a regular size plate of Meat Jun and another regular size plate of Fish Jun. The lady just needed to know which ban chan for each plate. When you come earlier in the afternoon, most side dishes are available, the one that runs out quickly is egg omelette. Also be careful when transporting your food home as items tend to spill out of the plate, they really pack them ban chan! But they sure are quick with takeout, the kitchen is quite fast! You can dine in as there are plenty of clean tables, I've only enjoyed my meals in the comfort of my own home. Because they make these portions fairly big, there's always leftovers and shareable with your loved one. Open until 9pm, they always ask "Chops or Forks?" That's always so very nice of them. There's always customers coming and going as it's right on busy Wilder Avenue. They make a killing on sales because they are fast. Word of advice, just order a combination plate. You'll not only pay a lot for your food. But you'll also receive good service here! read more

BBQ Chicken plate is really tasty. Prices have gone up so now the regular plate is just shy of $20. Amount of veggies is half of what it used to be so it's just level to the top of the take out container which is soooo disappointing because i love their veggies. They give a fair amount of chicken and rice though. Wish they wouldn't skimp on the veggies. I mean how much extra is a cabbage leaf?! read more

Great place for plate lunch food always hot and fresh and a lot to eat and a lot of parking in the little mall

Disrespectful workers and food overall taste bland. Horrible experience and will never come back again.

We came here on a Friday afternoon to pickup some takeout for dinner. I got a combination Bbq chicken and Kalbi and my wife got the Meat Jun plate. Banchan veggies were all nicely arranged and everything we got was fresh and delicious. The meats were all good too! Plates were generous and we each got two meals out of it. The workers were polite and the place was really clean. I'd definitely come here again! read more

The folks are nice, it's clean inside and there is parking in the back, an excellent bonus. We had so much leftovers that we enjoyed another night of delicious Korean food. Had to work late so decided to try this place on the recommendation of a co-worker. The food was delicious! I ordered the meat jun and kalbi combo with chop chae, choy sum, Kim chee, and bean sprouts. They had my phone order ready for pickup. I do have to mention that they did not slice the meat jun, which I found unusual and a bit awkward, as I was not given a knife with my utensils. I always enjoy coming here. Most recently I have gotten lunch for my contractors and come out with 5-7 plates at a time. Super easy to order them and they always have a lot of the banchan for you to choose from. BBQ is my go to and always flavorful, moist, and with the perfect amount of char. Cucumber kim chee has recently been crunchy, tangy, with a good heat kick. In the past there were some inconsistencies, possibly timing of getting it. I have never waited more than 15 minutes for my multiple plates! There is seating in there but most of the time I see people take it to go. Parking: great as it's in Manoa market place. Things to look out for the parking can get full on Thursday and Sunday due to the produce market being stationed in the parking lot due to renovation of their original site. Also many stalls were removed to house the construction vehicles so at peak times it can be a bit crazy! read more

One thing about this place is that their portions are pretty big. Their mini portions are huge too! LOCATION: This review is for their location in the Makiki Shopping Village. Right off of Wilder Avenue. PARKING: The shopping village has a small parking lot that's shared with other small businesses in the area. Depending on the time of day, it gets pretty busy. They have a few metered spots out front and street parking. Just be mindful of the tow zone times in the area. If you make a phone order, some park right in front of their store. However, don't park there too long.... The spot in front of their store is a no parking zone. SERVICE: They are always so nice and prompt whenever I visit here. I've always received friendly service here. ATMOSPHERE: Their store is always clean. I always see them cleaning and wiping tables. There's a few tables to eat at inside and it feels very cozy. I believe this is a small family business?? Not too sure, but it feels like it. FOOD: Their portions are pretty big. Their plates come with banchan and they are very generous with the portions. I hope you come in with an appetite! My favorite dish to get here is their mean jun... or bbq chicken.. or seaweed soup. Although their menu is limited, they serve the typical takeout Korean dishes. This place is simple, convenient and always delicious! read more
