The place was packed, I ordered other foods to try for my family and what my friends were eating too. a nice usual gentlemen gave me tips on what's good to try here so i took a take out menu and started circling all the things he recommended which were machine chicken and chicken katsu. He said they give a generous amount for the price and I totally agree. That burger was home made style and good quality meat. Most combo plates give a little bit of everything, but this plate gives out a lot of meats. The garlic shrimp is probably top 3 best garlic shrimp plates on the island. My family and I decided to try this spot since we were craving plate lunches. There were lots of great reviews here so we decided on trying this place. They have so many different options to choose from it took us a good 20 minutes to finally decide what we were going to get. We called in the order and it was ready in about 15 minutes! The roast turkey was alright. It tasted like the roast turkey that they serve in school. The gravy was bland. My dad gave it a 3.5/5. The hamburger in the hamburger steak was burnt and the gravy didn't have much flavor either. I would give it a 3/5. The star of the show was the mochiko chicken which my boyfriend loved. I just received my early lunch. As soon as I opened the lid - disappointment. No grilled onions and just two patties. What I received was an ordinary loco moco. I wonder if the difference was that mine was a delivery order? For delivery, I was charged $17.95 plus additional fees, tax and tip. It was worth it only for the experience, to have tried it once (but only once), not for what I actually received. There weren't even any utensils or a napkin. Sadly, this dish was just okay for me. There was a generous amount of oxtail but the flavor was just a bit lacking. If it was Chinese style I would have liked some five star anise and peanuts. If this were Japanese style, it needed grated ginger and a bit more vegetables. I guess you can call it "local style" with a consomme style taste. Don't let this small corner restaurant fool you. Despite its looks, the food is great tasting. Gives a really good presentation, and the taste resembles classic Hawaiian bbq. Definitely would recommend the New York steak combo, as it gives a warm, tender New York style steak with fried garlic shrimp. Since it's fried, no skin peeling is required. The Mac and cheese is chewy, and the rice is warm and delicious mixed with the beef sauce. Everything's cooked fresh, so you don't need to worry about it being leftovers. It took me a few minutes to get there from where I made the phone order. My order was just waiting on the fries so I paid and patiently waited. Several parties were dining in and it was after the lunch rush so I was optimistic on how good this cheeseburger would be. The kitchen got my fries out within moments and I headed home. Surprisingly, the fries were still crispy when I got home. It could be because the paper bag had holes punched in on the sides to let the heat escape. Good thinking! What's the verdict? Well I thought the double cheeseburger was good. The homemade beef patties were soft and flavorful. It's a simple and a nostalgic type of burger. Was it better than Shige's? First time trying Liliha Drive In. Not disappointed. Located on the Ewa/Mauka corner of Vineyard and Liliha St. Parking lot is private, with the entrance off of Vineyard, right behind the building. Be wary, the parking lot is really wonky with stalls on the tilt. Felt like my car was going to roll on its side, at one point. Entrance to the restaurant is off the parking lot. Looks like there is an entrance off Liliha St, black barred door, but it is not. Inside, that door is blocked by stacks of empty boxes for large take out orders. 5 tables for active dining. The rest are used to separate customer from cashier. Floors are clean, tables and chairs are clean. AC did make a wierd clicking noise, I tried not to look up at it. Onto the food. I chose LDI because I have a potluck on Tuesday and LDI has gaugee and crab rangoon on the menu. Needed to sample first before making a large order. Did not disappoint. The gaugee was nicely stuffed with a pork filling. The crunch of the cooked wrapper held up for a long time, including being refrigerated a couple hours. Didn't microwave the whole piece, just the filling. The crab rangoon are nice. Crab, onions, carrot, mixed with mayo maybe, wrapped in a won ton skin and deep fried. Though there isn't much flavor, the sweet chili sauce brought the whole thing together. It is a great appetizer with same good crunch as the gaugee. The large home made pork siumai is very soft and yummy. They have these packs of 4 on the grab n go counter.
