I love Chogajip! Truly, a hidden gem. Authentic Korean food, so 'ono and hearty. Portion sizes are big, perfect for sharing. I enjoy the Hallasan brand SOJU. My favorites (thus far) are the fried mandoo and Korean pancake (Kim chee and seafood). They have amazing banchan. Sadly, I haven't had the opportunity to try other dishes here because we usually come here between games (volleyball and basketball) for a quick drink but we never leave disappointed. Hidden Korean gem on Kapiolani. I've gone here once during late night after the club. They had karaoke and we could order food and I was so hungry. I just remember their Kim Chee soup being delicious. When I got sick, I needed to order soup and refound this place on Uber Eats. Their Spicy Beef soup is so good. Too. I've had another one, but I forget their name. Soups are so good here. But I usually always order take out. Kimchi jeon is super crispy in the outside, but nice and soft on the inside. Galbi has amazing flavor. The owner really liked us when we went in during the night time, and I think having karaoke with your Korean food just makes it perfect for a restaurant. I've been trying to improve my diet, in increments, when eating away from home. Depending on where I'm ordering from, I'm trying to choose better options whenever feasible. This does not mean I'm giving up convenience foods completely, and I will still have some dessert. Along these lines, for today I wanted to break away from the typical lunch entrée with rice and mac salad. Korean came to mind. Typically, meat or fish dishes are served with a variety of banchan. I looked at what was available on Uber Eats and was pleased to find that Chogajip opens at 8 am - unusual for a Korean restaurant. Bibimbap looked good, but Bulgogi Bibimbap looked even better. I placed my order and resumed working, occasionally checking on the progress of the delivery. It arrived just in time for my early lunch. There was a good variety of veggies in addition to the bulgogi. I scooped out all of the sauce onto the rice, banchan, meat and egg, then added the entire container of kimchi, and carefully mixed everything together. This is my favorite Korean restaurant! It was at their old location and still is at their new location. The food is so delicious and the service always so nice. It's very close to where we live so we usually walk but it's nice that they have a little parking lot right next to it. We usually get seated right away. I love their banchan too. The kimchee is so good. We always get fried mandoo, and theirs is so big and just delicious. Their sauce is excellent as well. My husband either gets the galbi or bossam. He loves both. I used to always get the kimchee stew because it's delicious. But once I tried their hot stone bibimbap, I always get that now. It's sooooo good. I just love everything here. Wanted to try this place for lunch so Hubby and I headed down there. I had the mando soup and he had the dol sot pibim bap with bulgoki. Both were tasty and seasoned just right. The meal isn't cheap, but Korean food has gotten super trendy and now it is expensive for what you get when in the recent past it was much more reasonable. The servers are very welcoming and nice which makes a great deal of difference in the whole dining out experience. We will definitely return to try other dishes as we enjoyed our lunch there. We may try their Korean breakfast some morning before 10 and see how that goes. read more

We're so happy that we found them and had the opportunity to dine there. Service was excellent. The suggestions by our server were spot on. We've been looking for a great tasting authentic Korean Food (tofu soup) and we saw this right across the Hawaii Convention Center. The food is truly authentic and delicious! The place was typical Korean restaurant which add to the appeal. It was very quiet since we were the only customers at 4pm, which made the service personal and intimate. Remember, this is right across the Convention Center so the traffic was very busy. I do recommend coming early. They also have limited parking since the lot shares with other businesses. What do you eat for breakfast? Is it oatmeal? Is it avocado toast? My preferred breakfast is meat jeon. Dont judge! It's made with eggs! We finally were able to try Chogajip by the convention center...and it was so worth it. It had previously been a little difficult because they open at 8am and I normally eat breakfast earlier than that...but we went on a weekend, and it was delicious . They have their own dedicated parking lot which is a big win. It's shared with the foot massage parlor. When we entered, we were greeted warmly, and brought menus. But the best part is they brought out a small, warm cauldron of scorched rice barley tea. I'm so hooked. I didn't know I needed this first thing in the morning, but I do now. Soothing and smooth, this tea receives it's texture from small bits of crispy rice floating in the tea. Its the perfect 'wake up' concoction and an amazing way to start breakfast! We ordered the meat jeon and galbi breakfast so we could share and it was a good move. The meat jeon was crispy and soft at the same time. The sauce it was served with was a perfect match and I would definitely order it again. The galbi was arguably better than the meat jeon! Marinated to perfection, these large pieces were succulent, sweet and savory all at the same time. My friends and I have visited this place a few times. Since then I've tried the chive jun, kimchi stew, galbijjim (spicy and regular version), army stew, and the spicy pork bibimbap. The chive jun is probably the most notable because it's so thin and crispy. The galbijjim is also pretty good as well and I like that it's the perfect size but not crazy expensive like I've seen in LA before. The kimchi stew was just okay for me. The broth could have a little more flavor. The army stew was similar in that I wish the broth had had a little more flavor but overall wasn't bad. The service has always been great. Their lunch special is a solid deal at $24.99--you get to choose a grilled meat paired with either bean paste stew, kimchi stew, or soft tofu stew. I went with the galbi and soft tofu stew, while my husband had the grilled yellow croaker with the same stew. The soft tofu stew had just the right amount of spice, and both meats were grilled to perfection. The yellow croaker was impressively crispy, though a bit too salty for my taste. My husband, however, really enjoyed it. For dinner on another visit, we ordered the chive geon and spicy galbi jjim. The chive geon was the crispiest I've ever had and generously packed with chives. The galbi jjim was fall-apart tender and flavorful, though a touch sweeter than I prefer. Our friends ordered the spicy pork belly bibimbap and kimchi stew, and they were very happy with their meals as well. Another bonus: they offer free parking, which is always a nice convenience. Chogajip on Kapiolani Blvd is such a convenient spot, especially with the small parking lot right out front. At 10pm on a weekday I was surprised at how busy it got with one big group coming in. The service was genuinely friendly and very accommodating. The servers even noticed we were cold and brought us hot tea without us asking, which was such a thoughtful touch. Writing this review as we are waiting for our food for over 1.5 hours. We came with a group of 3 to the karaoke room and there a $100 minimum. Mind you this place is near empty after midnight. We ordered to meet the minimum. Food and light soju. We had friends come and the male worker instantly lit up as he saw us. I got the impression that he saw this as easy money and he came back instantly quick when we asked for alcohol. We've asked multiple times for our food and you can legit tell he forgot about the food and only cared about serving us alcohol. The male worker is a horrible worker and person for trying to take advantage of people. Keep in mind my 100% sober this whole night. While attending a conference at the Honolulu Convention Center, my colleagues and I were looking for a nearby, tasty spot since the food lines at the conference were too long. We stumbled upon this little gem across the street, and I'm so glad we did! I don't have much experience with Korean food, but I was pleasantly surprised. I mentioned to the server that we were on a tight schedule and needed separate checks for work reimbursement, and she had no problem accommodating us. I was excited to find a new Korean restaurant on the island during our recent trip to Honolulu. Located right across from the Convention Center, ChoGaJip has its own convenient and dedicated parking lot and access was easy. We had a family member with a wheelchair and there was one handicap parking right by the entrance. We were greeted by the friendly staff and quickly seated. Their bathroom was quite large, clean, and wheelchair-friendly. The interior was very clean and decorations are both modern and traditional in a well-balanced manner. We ordered kalbi, mandoo soup (mandoo guk), mandoo soup with rice cakes (dduk mandoo guk), seafood pancakes, and bossam (boiled pork shoulder), and dogani tang (boiled oxtail). The dishes were tasty, flavorful, and well balanced in spice. We all enjoyed our food. The higher prices reflect the current economy and are comparable to other Korean restaurants. I enjoy coming here as it has various Korean dishes that isn't K BBQ. The side dishes are good as they come with various banchan like mungbean, radish kimchee, fresh kimchee, kelp with cho-gochujang, cabbage salad, and some other greens. My most recent order was king tonkatsu and it was thin battered and crispy- so good! The dipping sauce was on the vinegary side but complimented the dish well. It doesn't come with a gravy but I didn't mind as I do not like sauce on my fried dishes. Sullung tang is a bone broth soup that is milky white and has tendon, thinly sliced brisket and somen noodles inside. I usually add the banchan radish sauce for a sour flavor, and they offer you black pepper and salt to your taste. Kimchee chigae was nice and flavorful, has pork and kimchee in the stew, both come with rice. FYI: korean food is typically served with chili pepper and can be spicy. read more

We wanted to try a new korean place and thought to give this place a visit. We ordered spicy fried chicken, kalbi plate, and meat jun. It was overpriced for the portion we received. It was just 2 piece meat jun for $22 bucks, definitely a rip off. Kalbi was $27. Look like they only gave 3 strips and cut it into 3 pieces. Small portions for the being overly priced. Spicy fried chicken was dried. It was a over cooked where the batter was dark dark brown. Kalbi was not charbroiled with grill marks. She glazed korean bbq sauce over the meat. Meat jun was was okay. Small selection of bachans. They offered super basic ones. The kimchee was really good tho but that's about it. There was 3 of us and we ordered 3 dishes, we got only 2 rice bowls. So we asked for another ... its just white rice not like those fancy purple rice. Anyways we got charged $2 for extra rice. Sucks we wanted try out a new places. We were unhappy with our food. I have a lot to say about this place. First of all they don't tell you need to spend a minimum of $100 when you go into their karaoke rooms. Then after about 45 min later if you don't order enough food or drinks they tell you that you have to spend a minimum of $100. What kind of bs is that? My daughter and her friends went around 10 pm. They had already had dinner and wanted to just sing and have a few pupus. They ended up having to spend $120 just because the waitress was badgering them to order $100 worth of food or drinks. So I called them back after she came home with a bunch of uneaten boxes of food. It's insane how they took advantage of them. She ended up yelling back at me saying she didn't do anything wrong. Won't ever go back to this place. I used to frequent it a lot too. They're pushy, rude and unethical. I'm wondering if they took advantage of them because they're younger and I wasn't there to say anything to them.
